Samsung is killing it with their QDOLEDS, literally killing them with a mat finish (#AG sucks 😂)

The reason people are running away from QD-OLED is simple. Now, take in mind this is from a guy who has owned both WOLED and currently a Samsung S95C QD-OLED. It's the lack of inky black levels when any type of ambient light hits the screen because of lack of a proper polarizer. MLA WOLED still had this issue as well (however far less noticeable), but with this new four stack designed WOLED, from everything I'm reading, it uses the same polarizer as the C series from LG which has perfect inky black levels in any lighting condition. So now people will see with the LG G5 that you can have increased brightness AND perfect inky black levels, it will be a no brainer to go this route. Samsung also didn't help its case by adding a matte like finish to its S95 series TV lineup, most enthusiast I talk to hate matte and respond with "Glossy for life". Also if you're a gamer, the one connect box is the absolute enemy for high refresh rates and screen black outs Lol.

The matte finish isn’t even the big deal to me because I will always use in a dark room anyway but it still seems the G5 is the better buy this year

Honestly though. MiniLED is every single year taking away an "OLED advantage" or minimizing it. Realize that MiniLED has only been a thing for 4 years. This will be the 5th year. But technically it's 4, because most manufacturers didn't get on it until 2021 or so.
In that short time span the advances are huge. And the cost to benefit ratio is much greater than OLED. OLED has basically been stagnant in sales for years. Even with these amazing advancements OLED has had as well.
This year, viewing angle advantage of OLED is starting to disappear with W-HVA panels and ADS Pro panels. Now even TCL have 23-bit processing, Sony at 22-bit. The gradation of the lights combined with zones and how it minimizes blooming etc. Brightness advantage of miniLED overall. So what's left for OLED. "Micro-contrast" only really noticeable in dark room and small tiny specular highlight brightness. Only really noticeable if OLED sits next to the MiniLED.
If a person has a top MiniLED and have lights in their room. 99% of content looks the same as an OLED. Blooming is hard to see in a lit room, that is the few times it is even there.
Size. MiniLED is hitting 130" by now. So a 65 to 75" MiniLED is getting cheaper.
Imagine another 4 years in advancement with MiniLED. They used to have a few hundred zones. They are hitting 15,000 zones now. And even at just 3,000 zones they are doing miracles.
Now with RGB miniLED. They beat even QDOLED in color gamut/volume. Which means they even have an advantage over OLED now.
Cost, brightness, no burn in worries, better colours going forward, constantly better contrast/micro-contrast, HDR impact.
The fact manufacturers make a much larger profit. It's rough for OLED.

Miniled is a glorified led tv its straight up trash compared to Oled

    • @tears2040
      @tears2040 23 години тому

      100% incorrect and false.
You clearly do not own an Oled, even the most basic panel is superior to the most advanced mini led in several areas.
Any text on screen blooms on an LCD Panel and when even looked at a slight angle is horrendously magnified.
Oled picture is sharper, better contrast, detail and of course response time and motion.
LED are great for large panel cost to performance, but make no mistake there is no consumer friendly tv sold in stores that can compete with something like the Sony QD Oled or
      Even LG G4

I worked at BestBuy there’s way more mark ups in the QD OLEDs and OLEDS than you guys think. Our employee discounts there was room on the OLEDs. No one mentions all the dog crap TVs Samsung sells at a loss like the TU and CU series. Also they sell the gimmicks like The Frame. Samsung is intentionally not pushing QD OLED by making it Matte. They sell crap tvs. The Frame which is also garbage and the 8Ks they try to push.

I hope one day you learn that 8K is a necessary technology for giant screens. The sad thing is that this trolling is not enough in politics, as if it is also affecting the technology world. I have not heard any complaints from those who bought the matte screen. They are very happy, especially because there is no reflection. Making such a judgment about a screen that you do not use and do not know can only be explained by bad intentions.

One thing either Brian or FOMO mentioned which makes me feel better about choosing the Sony X90L as my first 4K TV is that there's not a big difference between FALD LED and mini-LED backlighting. I know the X90L isn't the brightest bulb, but it's more accurate than the similarly priced Hisense and TCL models. Between the time I got my X90L and now, I can't afford something more expensive such as the Bravia 7, X93L, X95L, or Bravia 9 for that extra brightness. So unless some financial miracle comes my way, I know I did better than a budget brand with local dimming and/or a near budget brand and model without local dimming at all.

41 minute mark - BOOM, Brian drops the truth! I have had a C9 77 inch for 5 years now... Still now, I have felt zero need to upgrade it because there's nothing quite like it on the market to replace it with at a bigger size. Like Brian, I was also hoping for an 83 inch QD-OLED this year and again this year I may not upgrade cuz the price to performance ratio just doesn't make sense. A g5 at 83 inches? forget about it - I don't have the deep pockets for it and C5 might still be the same C4 rebranded in disguise.
PS, I love love love how my C9 is still talked about after 5 years cuz the tech has truly been stagnant till now. QD-OLED could have been it but its not.

QD OLED looks great but it's a hilariously complex and inefficient technology. 3 layers of blue OLED and 2 layers of green OLED, then the QD color converting layers for the green and red pixels. And the blue pixel is pass-through which requires a scatter plate. Samsung must be losing money on QD OLED. It sounds like an expensive nightmare to make these QD OLED tvs

The presentation, the stands, the operating system, the colors that pop, the remote, etc. I see why they have been #1 for so long. But I just can’t for the life of me figure out why they would sell off their LCD business, to go into QD OLED only to do it for a few years only to give up on that too and now they don’t supply their own LCD panels? "Mini LED" was always about price not performance.
Any time a company shows their backlight grid with the LCD panel removed you can see miles of empty space between the LEDs, using smaller LEDs is just objectively worse except that we don't know how much it would cost to make a 10,000 zone FALD TV with standard size LEDs.

The colours at times seem so unnatural that it’s just over the top. G4 was my choice in 2024 and I absolutely love this beast. To "save it", sell the QD-OLED supply chain and manufacturing to Chinese firms who have the wherewithal via Chinese Government backing to invest the money over years to build it cheaply. (BTW China's excess productive capacity will get there without purchase of current tech, but it would be worth it to buy now to save time)
Basically the finance guys in the Western Firms are ceding the future for short term profits. (Irony) Someone should explain to these guys the time value of money. Owning tomorrow is always worth more than owning today- truer than ever in our post scarcity era.

It also seems to be held back from the brightness standpoint. Game Mode imo is acceptable but not on the same level as LG and Samsung and for the price it’s a problem. I’m an A95L owner.
