I danced when I was a little girl - then quit to play piano instead - then went back as a teen. I tried hard to catch up with my peers, but I was “held back” if you will.. I’ll never forget that I was about 16, in a class with 12/13 year olds, and the instructor stopped the class and asked me if I was certain I had tested to be in the class. I went home, cried in embarrassment, and asked my mom to quit. I so wish I could go back to my teenage self and say “no! Use that as your motivation!” I’m still so in love with ballet. I love watching, it gives me chills, and I just… I just wish I wouldn’t have given up! So cool that you’re going to be in the nutcracker! Wishing you luck and a great show :)
Your love for vintage decor, glass decor absent glitter and your skull pic behind that tree...are you my brother from another mother???? I too share your taste in Christmas decorating!! ❤
Maybe use the upholstery trims as fireplace and doorway garlands adorned with bells and greenery or dried greenery from the garden to make christmassy.
As a clumsy, rough person... 😂😂🤣 to "no plastic". But idk how in the world I've been able to keep my ceramic Christmas figurines 🤔 OOH! I'm doing tassels, too!
Really enjoyed this. It is really great that you have so many ornaments from your grandmother. On those little miniature ornaments that you have from her, I would use it on that little green mini tree. I have a little mini tree that I put up in our bedroom on an old wood luggage rack with tiny decorations also. I also use strands of pearl necklaces and earrings on it. A lot of that is from my vintage jewelry collection. It’s nice to see and makes me happy when I go to bed and also waking up in the morning during the holidays.
I love the idea of using jewelry strands on the tree! Last year, there were a ton of amazing blush toned pearl strands at the restore… and I passed on them 😭
Hi Andrew! Love your grandmothers decorations. You could string the tiny ones together and entwine them in a garland, a tree or hang them somewhere.. just a suggestion😊
Everything you're saying feels quotable! I think my fave is, "...'Items that roll- and tub.'" 😂 So many lovely pieces and ideas to go with them, but a very important one seems to be missing: a nativity! I'm sure you could find one within your aesthetics. 😊🎄
Maybe a mobile with the little ornaments. Make the little tree an upside down tree and hang from the ceiling in the small bath. I love that red bead garland, tassels, and the mini ornaments. 💕💕🎶🎶
Hi Andrew! Great to see you, my friend. Excellent video. I have to say you are an "Old Soul" and i am sure you have heard this before. Regarding Grandmom's Miniature Wooden Ornaments, what about creating some type of Mobile to hang them so they can Dangle & Move to be admired? I like the thought of using the Lamp Shade as a Tree Skirt. What about covering in Glitter? I am KIDDING. Enjoy Boca Raton and i wish you a wonderful weekend. Take care - Don
One of your coffee stirrer wreaths could be a table centerpiece. ( I thought you said you had one extra you weren’t sure what to do with) you can add candles around or candles and greenery...
Glitter in gold or silver is absolutely vintage- popular on countless items. Nonetheless, it is definitely a no in my house because of the mess. As a preschool teacher, it was outlawed because it got everywhere, and it never seemed to disappear!
This vid was right up my alley! Really enjoyed you explaining your design ideas and each item in turn. Standouts for me were the mismatched stocking hangers (❤), the tassels (❤❤), and the pipe cleaner trees 🤯. One of my fave holiday decorating tips is to hand dip pine cones in wax. They make great stocking stuffers for people who have fireplaces as fire starters, or people with no fireplaces can use them as potpourri type decor. It fits with your natural materials vibe. I collect my pine cones from my yard, but you can buy them cheaply at home stores this type of year. Melt used candles you have, or get some at the resale store in holiday colors (and scents) and use a baking double boiler method on the stove to melt and dip. Stick them in a pretty glass bowl or woven basket and it instantly adds a vintage vibe. WARNING do NOT use an expensive double boiler pot for this, use two cheap pots you already have 😂. Gilded paint on the edges of the cones looks great too, but is way time consuming. I’m getting so much inspiration watching you and I love sharing ideas. Thank you for creating a community that feels like a safe, fun place to do so. Congrats on the Nutcracker, hope the show’s a hit!
I think some wider, more vintage looking feet would look better on those little brush trees. Or maybe even just a wooden cross. Definitely not the glitter feet no 😉 Goodluck!
I'd love the rotating tree...but I know that I'd keep seeing it at the corner of my eye and getting a start. There's a lot of great stuff here, can't wait to see what gets done with it.
oooooh, I know, paint the nutcracker's black and then add gold leaf loosely over top? the little ornaments would look great in a clear vase. I love mini things.
For the tree collar with the lampshade, that might be a terrific use of vintage Christmas cards or ads, decoupaged over the top of it and sealed with a nice varnish.
Absolutely. My parents went through a bunch of old Christmas cards last year and I pulled out all the pretty ones… and then they sat in my house for months… and then I think I finally tossed them because I could not conceive of a purpose for them 😭😭😭 So wish I had them now!
@@REISSUEDthis is why I have problems holding on to everything!! I know all too well the woes of throwing something away after weeks/months/years of not using it - only to realizing the use AFTER they’ve been tossed. Lol
Hi Andrew, from Sydney. On Graceful Living last year Deena created a snow princess, with a dress form (mannequin) on 2/3 of a Christmas tree. You could create your white tree like a costume from one of the dance productions you've been in.
Love those tassels!!! Whatever you decide to do with those, I know it'll be great!!! And your Grandma's sleigh, wow, just lovely!!! Can't wait for round 2!🌲🛷🔔💞
I’m so excited to see what you do with the retro kitschy decor! I can’t wait for part two. I have amazing memories of Christmas when I was a child so last year I scoured eBay, Etsy and Goodwill for the vintage, kitschy MCM decor that I grew up with. I found nearly all of the decor my mom had or items that were very similar. While it may not be for everyone, I love all of it. It takes me straight back to those happy times. My sister was amazed that I found the exact reindeer figurines that had been passed down from my grandmother to my mom and then to my sister. I got them brand new in the package and I’m pretty sure they were made in the 50s. I’m adding a few more modern items this year so it will be interesting to see how it all comes together.
The sleigh as a centrepiece with a nice towel with cookies in it? You can send me some leg warmers for christmas….my legs are tiny….hehe. Love your style choices minus the no sparkle, im a glitter n silver sucker. 😂
Great assortment! Can't wait for the next video. Idea for the "glitter" tree bases....vintage clothing patterns might work great to collage the bases...pretty much the same vintage cream color!
So many wonderful treasures on that table!! The knitted "snowballs" would look great in a little wooden bowl! Maybe add a couple knitting needles too? And you could make cone-shaped trees from heavy paper or cardboard and wrap the beautiful trims diagonally around them. Top with a vintage gold ball ornament? Can't wait to see your finished Christmas decor!
That is quite a haul. I love the tassels, they are so beautiful! It's nice that you have a lot of your grandmother's items to decorate with. I can't wait to see it all decorated.
That tree is gorgeous and when christmas is over, maybe you can put those lights on another tree on your porch to have out there all year round! You have some very great ideas...thanx for sharing!
I loved this! I went to an estate sale years ago and got several bags of chandelier crystals, which I ultimately used to decorate my dining room tree. They're incredible. I can't wait to see what you do with all your wonderful holiday elements. The porch looks great already!
This was a fun haul. We avoid all plastic decor for our Christmas decorations too. If you can find some terracotta rose pots (the longer tapered ones often used for amaryllis), those tan-coloured trees would look so classic and have the streamlined look I think you often go for. Just a thought!
❤❤❤ your studio background! Have to say the same about your Christmas decor! So many lovely goodies and possibilities! 😮 Can't wait for your next video.
The coffee stirer wreaths (once painted gold), might be interesting if you attached a cluster of the kniited ball ornaments on each of the wreaths. I couldn't take my eyes off the combination of these when your camera was panning across them!
Howdy Andrew!!!! Love all the classic styles you got! Never though of using the tassels on the tree, great idea!!! Safe travels on your trip!! Love the old brass horns & beads! The red metal ornaments are classic 1980's kitsch, I remember buying a set something like those from Avon that had little penguins attached to them. I really love the satin covered ornaments that have the piping on them with a tasseled base. I use to have a set of beautiful Victorian ornaments which had Dickensian painted scenes painted on them with some gold filigree accenting the painted scenes. I'll wait until the next vlog to see what magic you create with your great finds! Hugs & tugs from Kenny Ohio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Score!! on candy canes, beads, wood basket, etc. can't wait to see what you do with everything! You knit too😲? I love the 1st colorful 'retro' inspiration tree, love retro. Mannequins as is -yes. Keep 17 yr. old tree -of course. Often hang my tiniest ornaments near the top smallest part of the tree. Prefer non-flashing lights as well. Perhaps hang some decorative trim across a mantle? I concur with all the reasons you gave for DIY'ing I'm like that too. Birds of a feather flock to your channel 😊.
Looking good! I still think that room needs a vintage chalkboard, LOL. Loving the white lights, tassels and pipe cleaner trees. If you collage the bases, using old sheet music might be interesting. I have a bunch of vintage Christmas sheet music I'll probably frame in a grouping. Can't wait to see what you do with that awesome Christmas haul!!!
Love the curtain lights on your porch. I don't decorate very much for Christmas except I do like natural elements such as pine branches and cones etc. I also have several amaryllis plants started. I'm looking forward to see how everything comes together in your home. Enjoy the process!
I’m glad you like them too! I think they are just the right amount of magic (and effort) for me this year! Love natural elements! I’m trying to preserve some magnolia leaves and do some real pine elements too
I love the little wooden painted ornaments! I think they are Scandinavian, maybe? I remember having those growing up. Since you are going for a tarnished brass theme, maybe paint the nutcrackers brass instead? Looks great and break a leg!
Yeah that’s was my thought for the nutcrackers since I love the vintage brass look. But I’m not sure I could get them to a true metal look given what they are made of… which made me switch course a bit.
Ask for your thoughts on decoupage if you have anyone that saves vintage gift tags. Gift tags, sticker's vintage wrapping paper that makes a great collage for christmas projects
I put up a miniature tree every year with all of my tiny ornaments. It usually gets the most attention because it's so adorable. I love your miniature ornaments! I got my miniature tree very inexpensively I think it was at Walmart but I can't remember because it was so long ago.
I just keep loving your unfinished fireplace more and more! I think the art sets it off. It looks so rustic luxe. A garland of tassels around a doorway might be really pretty! For some reason I don’t mind those nutcrackers as they are ( normally I would) I think something about the colors in them plus their very vintage-ness mixes really well with the colors of your items that I think they’d look terrific as is.
Everything looks lovely so far! I can't wait to see what you do. I saw your brick graffiti wall the other day and was inspired...but I couldnt find peel and stick paper (I live in Cambodia) and then went to a 2500rl (.55c) store today and found enough for my project!!! I've spent the whole day planning, experimenting on scraps, and looking up images. Thanks ❤! Happy holidays!
@@REISSUED I'm thinking old hollywood/old Cambodia celebrities + huge (10×10) floral temporary tattoos they also had at the shop. I think the largest image will be of Marilyn sitting in an alley in her bus stop costume. It's always been a favorite. Do you use regular printer paper? I glued an image on a scrap and it seemed to work without the ink smearing or anything. Love your art and design! Thanks for replying!!
Those lights on the porch tree? Perfection! I need them. I can't wait to see what you do with the trim. I've made trees by wrapping and gluing things similar to the trim you have around Styrofoam cones. It's really fun to layer them with color and texture.
I love your idea about the cone shapes!!! Like mini Christmas trees! Maybe even just some paper rolled into a cone shape as a base? Amazing idea! And yes the porch tree lights are a game changer! Crazy to apply 1000 lights in like 20 minutes
So many interesting items you have there! It comes from such a long time collecting no doubt. Enjoyed all of them! the lipstick red set is awesome and intrigued me with the bikes? One because they are there, the tub could hold candy or coal or something but a bike for xmas is puzzling and I have seen that very bike before and was in awe of its miniature detail but didn't buy it. What is the story of this object? the wooden set is like one we had at home when we were little. It will be awesome in so many ways. But a stick tree or a stick garland would be great. Having so many trees is so grand also! Merry Christmas Andrew! 🏡🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
Hey Handsome, you could cover the tree-skirt lamp shade with the jute fabric (can't remember what you called it) and maybe even include some of the tassels and garlands. The knitted balls you could hang from upside down (is that the right way to put it?) instead of horizontally on a whole garland. That way you wouldn't have to knit so many more. Great video, as always. ❤ I highly agree on the theme and material preference! Classic and natural/worthy. Glass and wood and red and gold.. I very much dislike blue and pink for Christmas decorations! Maybe as much as you dislike glitter (which I rather/in fact don't hate though!! 😅). Glitter for me is legit, bc. it's stardust and fairy powder to me!! 😂 Btw. those wooden miniature figures might seem to be german. You could maybe use them on one of those bottle brush trees due to colour and size..
Love this!! I'm in a tiny apt and I do put out some hand-me-down Christmas decor and a things I've found at hobby lobby, but it gets so cluttered looking so i shouldnt get anymore. But this is such great inspo! Makes me really excited to have a home in the future and to find thrifted, curated items for holiday decor!
As usual, I’m amazed and in awe of your cleverness. Your videos are always appreciated and inspiring. If the color of your little tree doesn’t work for that set of little ornaments, maybe a small green or flocked tree would work. Looking forward to your next video. Good luck with your dance in Florida. ❤🎄
No Glitter!? You just alienated 50% of your viewers. LOL Just kidding...glitter is a bit of a pill. Some thoughts: Consider weaving/tufting fabric/lights/smaller tassels into one of your coffee stirrer wreaths while allowing much of the structure to stay exposed. Use the trim/tassels to create your own styled garland. (I'm thinking for the fireplace mantles with interspersed brass horns) I totally agree with xingcat about collaging holiday themed images on the lampshade for a tree base cover. That seems right up your ally. I would not call you 'cheap' Andrew...I'd call you frugal. Cheers!
I danced when I was a little girl - then quit to play piano instead - then went back as a teen. I tried hard to catch up with my peers, but I was “held back” if you will.. At first I was disappointed that my white tree turned cream. Now I love the vintage look of it.
Decoupage Music sheets on the bottle brush trees.
Your love for vintage decor, glass decor absent glitter and your skull pic behind that tree...are you my brother from another mother???? I too share your taste in Christmas decorating!! ❤
Those mini ornaments of your grandma would look nice on your small blue tree
I think a cool bowl filled with the small wooden ornaments from your Grandma would be cool. I would come over and dig through them and love it.
Maybe use the upholstery trims as fireplace and doorway garlands adorned with bells and greenery or dried greenery from the garden to make christmassy.

Ughhh I’m obsessed with them! I’m glad you appreciate them and are able to use your grandparents decor 😍

This is my fav Xmas video online!
I’m so excited to see what you do with the retro kitschy decor! I can’t wait for part two.

I glued an image on a scrap and it seemed to work without the ink smearing or anything. Love your art and design! Thanks for replying!!
@@inapickle806 yep regular printer paper!
Can’t wait to see part 2. So many lovely things!!!
The brass horns are great!
Love a cozy, decorated front porch...what a wonderful sight to see throughout the holidays.
Can’t wait to see what you do with all of your beautiful items.
Would your yardage of trim make a garland for your tree?
Those lights on the porch tree? Perfection! I need them. I can't wait to see what you do with the trim. I've made trees by wrapping and gluing things similar to the trim you have around Styrofoam cones. It's really fun to layer them with color and texture.
I love your idea about the cone shapes!!! Like mini Christmas trees! Maybe even just some paper rolled into a cone shape as a base? Amazing idea! And yes the porch tree lights are a game changer! Crazy to apply 1000 lights in like 20 minutes
@@REISSUED Rolled paper works too, just use something on the thicker side so it can take the weight. I love making mini trees!
The porch is magical!!! Can't wait to see what you do with those fabulous tassels. I like to hang them on door knobs.
I can’t wait for part 2!!!
Hi, I would put the pipe cleaner trees in little pots. Either terracotta or mat black pots.
Spot on! I ended up doing that!
Add the little decorations to your red garlands
Basic is the Best !! 😘
Hey Handsome,
you could cover the tree-skirt lamp shade with the jute fabric (can't remember what you called it) and maybe even include some of the tassels and garlands.
The knitted balls you could hang from upside down (is that the right way to put it?) instead of horizontally on a whole garland. That way you wouldn't have to knit so many more.
Great video, as always.
❤
I highly agree on the theme and material preference!
Btw. those wooden miniature figures might seem to be german.
Hi Andrew your decorations are amazing I would never think of these things beautiful ❤ Australia xx
No glitter 😱😱😱
I have little green tassels as ornaments.
Love your christmas, you have so many beautiful pieces. So looking forward to next episode!!!
Some really nice pieces, love that a lot of them were inherited. Looking forward to part 2 🌲
Cheers!
X mas thrift haul

Yay! Glad you found this one entertaining 👍🏻
