You create art just like I do! From thrift store finds and mixed media to letting fate and intuition be our guide! I have adult ADHD, anxiety and depression. Getting back to creating has helped me tremendously! I have been dealing with imposter syndrome and your video has made me feel so much better. Thank you for sharing your process! Love your work!!
I am so glad I found you. I relate to your life journey so much. I was a dancer in my youth, designed clothing in Los Angeles for thirty plus years, retired, moved opened a store, sold that, did display for Anthropology for six years, and I still feel like an imposter in my artistic goals. Your work and home are fresh , on point, inspiring . Bravo ! Can’t wait to see what you decide to share with us next.
Hey Laurie!I appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your story! I often find that the artists that do everything are the people that make the most unique and inspiring work. But it can be hard to see it that way when comparing to the artists that go all in on one specific thing. I’m sure your range of experience shines through beautifully in the things you create. Glad to have you here ❤️
@lauriewarner4848, love your comment and am so interested in the window design work you spoke of! I have always secretly wanted that job! I have a job I love, working in the film industry as a Scenic Artist primarily on-set as a Camera Scenic, and I have been doing this for over 30 years…Not sure why I shared all that. I really just wanted to say hi! and You’re Cool. Hope your day is good👋
Luv your honesty about the artistic process. The is a sign of a true artist. Dude, you are NOT an imposter. I'm really enjoying your channel. Great work.
Thanks Jackie! I’m so happy you’re enjoying my channel! 😊
Absolutely loved this! So inspiring! The only thing that didn't gel with me was covering over their eyes with a splash of white paint. They seemed so much more charming when you could see their eyes, especially the portrait of the woman.
I agree. Such beautiful work. In my opinion the white splash adds interest, but also takes away the life and energy in the images. I’d buy them anyway though 😊
I completely agree. I felt very involved as both the pieces were developing, but as soon as the splotches went over the eyes, I felt immediately dissociated, almost pushed put of them. It was very disconcerting. Is that what you were trying to achieve? What was the motivation for doing that?
Agree.
Loved them until the eyes were covered
I had the same reaction when I saw him doing that, nice work but better with eyes uncovered
Agrre. I
Like eyes
Oh my gosh!! How can you not believe or feel that you are a "professional artist"? In all actuality, you are far more than that. You are unbelievably talented, creative, intuitative, imaginative and inspiring...plus some. Thank you for sharing what you do and "what" you are. You're awesome.
Dear You, everything you do and say about your process, is that of an artist. You are an Artist. Most of us carry around thoughts or being an imposter. Hard to believe that life can be this fun and creative - it is. I’m an old person now, and I love your approach to your home and your art. It’s full of thoughtfulness and care and not overly precious. Keep creating. 🎉
Hi Leslee! This comment made my day 🥹 Especially what you said about life being fun and creative - it can be so easy to fall into a headspace where anything that feels joyful or comes easily is discarded to focus on the things that come with struggle or intense effort. It’s taken me awhile to realize that the things we toil away for are no more valuable than the beautiful moments that life hands us. I’m happy to able to incorporate that into my artwork. Thank you so much for watching and sharing your insight ❤️❤️❤️
@@REISSUED I agree with Leslee 100%. Art creation has little to do with a formal education. Yes, knowing art history and having reference to great artists provides a platform and launching point for creating something new, and technique is often essential to composition even in abstract work. These works are absolutely beautiful.
How excellent and cool, and brave these pieces are! I’m just like that, trying not to be inspired by something and cheat!! Haha like I have to re invent the wheel! Also, I work on 30 things at one time so I don’t freak myself out when things don’t go my way This was great. Thank you for the inspiration.
I loved the idea you presented about things not being overly precious ;-) thank you
Once it is done, you look for the next moment to create… Thank you
Know what you mean I love creating art but feel like it never quite cuts the mark
These photos reminded me of the ancestral pictures I have from my family history. My Norwegian grandfather was strikingly handsome, so you’ve got my creative juices flowing. So many ideas, and so little time.
Yes! I’m definitely going to do some pieces with antique photos of my family - so we are totally on the same page! Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!
I never would have thought of painting the pieces in their frames. That twirl at the end is just delightful! Your pup is a professional dancer, too!
Haha she is! She is very physical and expressive 😂
I got choked up when you started putting the pattern paper on. My dad was a patternmaker. You are so creative! Beautiful work as usual.
YES! He really combined everything I love about his channel here, too! I found him via his sewing/refashioning videos first so this is an extra special project for me as a viewer :).
Wow that is so beautiful! Thank you so sharing that, Jilly ❤️
Omg I love this! Yes, I wanted something that felt a bit like a self portrait for the man on my porch - since it such a giant statement piece to see from the street! Hence the mustache and the patterns… feels a bit like me haha
Thanks for sharing, love this!
@@linawells5857- me too! 👌🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇦🇺👋🏼🦘
You spent so much time explaining/justifying how you are professional artist. No need for that IMHO! I wish for you to come into your great and everlasting power and OWN your artistry! Don’t forget to love yourself too!❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing. I’m also an “artist”. I never thought of myself as one before but now that I’m retired, it’s all I want to do and I’m loving my artwork. I loved your artwork! Congrats!
Wow, I grew up drawing and trained as an artist and I have to say that I love your art. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you so much!
Hello. I’m new to your channel, so I’ve only had time to watch a few videos. I’m truly blown away. Your art, vision for your home and personality are so interesting and fun. Thanks for sharing some of your life. As a person who loves to create, your channel inspires!❤
Thank you so much Melissa! I’m so glad you found me 😊
Love! You addressed all of my fears and concerns about creating art. Thank you for showing the process and giving encouragement! ❤
Thanks for watching, Wendy! I’m so happy this resonated with you ❤️
Beautiful work, I love how you left pieces of the patterns and paper to overlap onto the frame. Most who are true artists have such a difficult time saying the words "I'm an artist." But allow yourself to say it and believe it.
Love the YT algorithm at times, this is one of those. Thanks for expanding my possibilities.
Aw thank you so much! Glad you found me!
Art is simply a pleasing arrangement of shapes and colours and that basically sums it up. We all have different ideas of what ''real art'' should look like, and people are often too quick too dismiss a fantastic piece of art just because it doesn't fit their ideal concept of what that should be. I love your artworks, you think outside the box, and I think that's what makes your pieces so unique, VERY ARTISTIC and beautiful. 🖼🖌
Wow! Those are such a wonderful mix of old and new! Very cool! 🎉
You just popped up on my feed this morning, and I’m pretty sure you just started my day off right 😊 I loved watching you create such beautiful and meaningful pieces. Please give your precious twirly friend my love 😍
Love seeing your process and hearing you talk through it all. Very inspiring!
Always trust your intuition! Especially being an artist, let the universe help guide and inspire. Your art is very cool.
Love your creativity and talent and honesty!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
I’m loving watching your process. It’s ok to be vulnerable, insecure, ridiculous even. You’re making great pieces. Doubting yourself is unnecessary. Such a waste of energy. You do good stuff. Keep doing good stuff and enjoy your creativity. You’re wonderful!
I love your art and I love upcycling clothes, furniture and art. You’ve given me inspiration to get back into it! Thank you! So enjoying your channel! ❤
Thank you so much! I LOVE hearing that you’re inspired! I appreciate you taking the time to watch ❤️
Thank you so so so so much for openly describing your feelings and giving tips to overcome them. I keep dreaming of doing art but can never get myself to actually do what I envision. I will definitely use your tips, like painting over used canvases, such a good one! Thank you and bravo for your work.
I’m so happy you found this helpful and inspiring! Thanks for watching ❤️
You’re adorable and I’m looking forward to diving into your process! 💜🫶🏼
Love your ideas and tips!! I’m a creative person who has focused forever on my job and daily life, and taken almost no time to express my creativity. I understand how creating something/doing something you love feeds the soul, and I’m at a point now where I want to start adding these things into my daily life. You have inspired me to think “outside of the box”! Thank you! Looking forward to more of your videos ~ 💜🩵💙
Love hearing this! Glad you’re feeling inspired ❤️
💜
Beautiful! I love “Torn Sky”. So beautiful! I have a million paintings and frames. Maybe I could make something out of them… 😊. Thank you for the tips!
Thank you so much for watching! I hope you make something amazing with your materials! Let me know how it turns out ❤️
Extremely nice work. I love how you see things and how you make it come out on the canvas. Definitley work I would hang in my house.
OMG, I loved both pieces; for their similarities and for their differences. I loved the way the patterns turned out on the clothing. I would not have thought of layering an old picture on an existing piece of art. I thought that was inspired! I loved watching the process. Makes me want to go home and decoupage and do art stuff! Cheers!
I love these! I also appreciate your acknowledgement of all of the anxieties many artists experience - myself included. Thank you for sharing! ❤
This was such a lovely video! I love all of your secrets and we share in many of them! ❤
Howdy Andrew!! I do like your vision of things that could be!! Big Hugs from Ohio!!
Thanks Ken! 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your process. I am a thrifter/reseller and lover of art. I'm feeling very inspired by your video. It's been a while since I've created my own art and I'm loving what you have done. Thank you for the motivation ✨🎨☀💖
Glad you’re feeling inspired!
What a delightful couple !
Great Fun! And you do have an artist's eye. The magic within.
I really appreciate how you talk about the emotional and mental processes in the work, and the creation, it’s such a challenge, isn’t it? Which is a big part of why it is SO REWARDING!
You are a guy after my own heart😊😊 we think a lot alike. I am 62 and I've always been an artist at heart even though it wasn't my profession.. I love your little dog I also have a 7 lb. Yorkie.
Perfect timing! I rescued a really nice huge painting that is not in any way my style or colors. Nothing wrong with it other than that. So, thank you. I've been waiting for inspiration😛 and you showed up!!
So glad the timing worked out! Maybe you can make your find work for you!
I absolutely love your Devine artistry ❤I am learning how to explore new techniques and to relax and let myself just flow with what I am feeling.. not always easy. Sometimes we are our own worst critic 😊.. but I'm getting there. Love your videos!!!❤
This whole video......INCREDIBLE!!!!
Thanks Brandi!
@@REISSUED your welcome:)
Brilliant!! Thank you for being so generous with your info and sharing. Loved this...💐💐💐
Thanks Angela!
This was so fun to watch! I was having a hard time visualizing this at the start, but wow! These are so cool! You’re definitely a talented artist.
This process could be really cool to try on a piece of furniture, like a cheap dresser or even old cabinet doors for a massive artistic statement! Love the advice here too!
Absolutely agree! I’m doing some hand painting on furniture this week… but the appliqué/decoupage method would be awesome 👏🏻❤️
Wow - thank you so so much for sharing this. You’ve sparked my imagination 😊
My goodness, you are GORGEOUS, my friend.
I absolutely love the tutorial. Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks. 💚💚 I’m definitely gonna try it!
Just a little tip, try using wallpaper adhesive instead of mod podge when initially adhering the paper I find that you get less wrinkles when using prints.
Great tip! Thank you!
That was fascinating to watch. Thanks for sharing your process and giving voice to the fear induced procrastination and cringe phase, they are exactly what hold me back at times.
Soups cute friend! Love your work! Artist to Artist!!😊
Very inspiring. I think I might try a version of this. Love the results.
I went to art school and I still don't feel like a "real" artist, do not let it stop you!
Haha you know that life Molly! Definitely not letting it stop me! Hope you don’t either ❤️🙌🏻
Amazing work love this style of art. I agree with all of your secrets but especially the getting started part and knowing when to stop. Excited to watch your porch remodel video.
Super helpful and inspiring. I’m also trained in dance as well as visual arts, so this may help me get over my self-imposed hesitations about doing art works. Thank you!
Hey Karen! I hope you will indulge your visual artist self! I find it feeds my dance work… the two really inform each other. Best of luck!
I love your resourcefulness and ingenuity! You're a true creative and I love your work. Thank you so much for sharing with us all.
What a lovely discovery you are, Andrew - lovely to see a twirly creating beautiful collaged art. 🤗
May you go from strength to strength in all your creative endeavours. 🤍
Love the mustache!!
Just found your channel! Thank the algorithm gods! Anywho, loving your approach to designing your home, creating art pieces and that beautiful black fur baby at the end of this video. She looks exactly like my Chi-poo. ❤❤❤❤
I’m so glad you found me! Thank you so much for your support ❤️
Wallpaper paste gel stronger and cheaper, gives zero wrinkles in paper. I use it by the big tub to avoid all the plastic of glue stick tubes going to the landfill. Perfect for collage and visual journalling including these larger pieces.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing ❤️
I had to laugh when you said that you are going to use house paint. A true adventurer.
Ms. B. Churchill
super clever process - cool looking pieces with just a hint of creepy (and I mean that in the best way possible)
Haha I like a bit of creepy. “Haunting” might be a good term 😂
Thank you for the inspiration and reminder that messy action to get the ball rolling is always better than waiting for things to be perfect :) I'm about to break out all my old collage materials!
Sounds amazing Tori! Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your lovely thoughts.
Yes! I thought also, why not paint on top of Goodwill paintings and frames after paying big bucks at Michael’s for canvas and frames, now have a lot more money to spend on supplies😮thank you for sharing “it's ok”❤
Absolutely!
YOU ARE “THIS THING” and I’m subscribing after watching your show for fifteen minutes
Aw thanks Eva!
First time watching you, and you're a confidence booster and so talented. Thank you!
Aw thank you! Glad you found me!
Your art is interesting and creative. My art change with a head injury/you cannot plan anything. This homeless lady in a wheelchair came to Church. She so excited about adding color to coloring books for adults. I got out the art again______________________________________________🖋🖊🖌🖍!
I'm an art broker and curator, and I HAVE to say.... the painting you've had for ten years that was an OG printer-strip "Portrait of Flapper Girl".... Oh no. Honey. Most times I love revamping stuff and I LOVE thrifting and I dig what your doing. BUT historically, and speaking of technique and era. I think painting over THAT one in particular....Could have been a mistake. I could be totally wrong, and HOPE I am! But I have found many a priceless treasure thrifting and sometimes you wouldn't know its value unless YOU KNOW. Keep being creative Love your gift!
Love, love, love this! Getting inspired!!!
Wow...thats not even the best word to use. You are an arist! How creative you are. Adding the pattern print was brilliant. I just found you and this video tonight. I subscribed. Now I'm going to watch your other videos!!
Thanks Michelle! I’m so happy you found me!
They came out great. Matter of fact, you gave me some new ideas!!! Thanks for sharing 😊
Oh-oh-oh! I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this video and watching your creativity unfold before my eyes!! I see stuff in thrift stores all the time that I could turn into something else but this gave so many new ideas and inspiration. I was looking for something specific to do with painting today and your feed popped up. I think it was meant to be. I can’t wait to try some new ideas. Thank you. By the way- you are what it means to be an artist.
So happy to know that the procrastination for fear of messing isn’t just me. Thank you for posting this!❤
So cool! You shop like I do for art frames, inspiration and price. I also go to habitat. I'm not as chill as you in getting started but totally agree with doing two at a time. It keeps the pallette and inspiration preserved somehow. New subscribe for me, very inspired by your enthusiasm and demeanor😎
Glad you’re feeling inspired! Thanks for watching and subscribing ❤️
Thank you for sharing this process. You’ve inspired me to create something similar to the woman for my creative studio!
Amazing! Have fun with it!
❤ thank u 5 sharing your experiences
So cooool and I love the repurposing !!! Amazing art !
I just love your work. Also the mustache. ❤
Hi, I'm so excited to have found you! I'm new to your channel and have fallen in love with you and your work already. Can't wait to see what's next.
Aw thank you so much! Glad you found me!
I'm late to the show as usual. I just found your channel. I love your work! Definitely going to subscribe to see more!
Also piece of balled up Saran wrap Smooth's out mod podge. Both of these tips I learned from my mother as child. I woke up missing her today. Funny how things work out/happen. I like to think she was giving me a little sign through you video.
STUNNING!!!
Just found your channel today and really loved your work. SUBSCRIBED.
I love that banker’s lamp in the background! Haha I have two that are the same ones that are on nightstands in my bedroom. I never see anyone have them!
Very cool, it was very interesting seeing the process you go through to start and finish a piece. TFS
Your process is so interesting and such a clever way to add layers of interest and texture to your work. You may want to exercise caution when it comes to putting water-based mediums (which is the function the Mod Podge is fulfilling) over oil. The water-based paints or varnishes can lose their ability to stick to oil over time. If you’re painting on top of acrylic you should be fine. A quick Google will tell you more. Good luck and happy thrifting!
Hey there! Yes, both thrifted painting were done in acrylics this time. But I have one beautiful thrifted piece in my home that I tried to varnish… and it was oil based… for the varnish beaded up right away. I quickly removed that and since purchased an oil based varnish to seal it with. Great reminder! Thanks!
I was also thinking this. Water based (acrylic) over oil won’t last. I have a couple of great frames from the thrift shop I’ve wanted to paint over but I’m worried that the paintings won’t be archival quality.
I’m jealous of your mustache, well done.
AMAZING ❤!
You should have at least 300k more subscribers.
Aw thank you! ❤️
Just found you here on UA-cam. I'm so happy I did. I love your artwork. I'm self-taught myself and have painted with thrift finds myself.
Glad you found me! Such an honor coming from a fellow artist 🙌🏻
I love it!
WOW that's art, i can't get over what u just did 🤩 added patterns "girls size 12" simplicity not unique yes, fabulous💞 love both the same. Unbelievable
Really beautiful! Makes me want to paint again❣️
I'm a big fan of Queenie. Such a talent! 😊
She is! Thanks for supporting her 😂❤️❤️❤️
Fascinating ! Such a creative approach to art. Wish you had left the eyes, though. You are very talented !!!!
Love them. What a great ideal. Reminds me of posters that were plastered over wooden fences and sides of brick buildings during the turn of the century. So glad I stumbled upon your channel. I'm getting a lot of good ideals to borrow (steal lol). Thank you for posting your work.
Yes I was definitely inspired by the peeling poster in NYC construction zones! 🙌🏻
Are the people in the pics your grandparents? Great grand parents? They look like they could be.
What an interesting process to create this art. You did a wonderful job!
I love these so much. I can’t wait to check out my local secondhand store to see what canvases I can find
I loved this so much! What an amazing process and I feel that all the wisdom & secrets you shared really pertain to almost any creative pursuit.Thank you for sharing! New sub!
Rewatching this and feeling so inspired! Thank you! p.s. I love ModPodge but, like oils, it never really dries.
Love your channel! So inspiring ❤
really inspiring!
