  • The 8th track off my instrumental debut, "Zero Mantra." Getting back in touch with some of my Jimi-esq chord melody blues/rock roots here.
The guitar was my Strat, with an Area 67 in the Neck, an Area 61 in the middle, and an AT-1 in the bridge, into a Mesa Roadster. Ch 1 Fat (100w, tube rectified) for the clean bits, Ch 3 Vintage ( 50 watts, tube rectification) for the lead parts. The brief heavy distorted guitar was a PRS SE Singlecut, Ch 4 modern.
This was a style of playing I was really into in my youth that I kind of forgot about, until my friend Lyle Watt reintroduced me to it - if you haven't, check out his (awesome) tune "Slowdown," which was definitely an influence here.

Thanks! This was recorded when I had an Area 67 in the neck and 61 in the middle, in the in-between position, through my Mesa Roadster.

I remember this gem from the Andy Timmons pickups review. You've come a long way since then! Loved the final product. Where can I buy the full album? cheers from Brasil!

+Gustavo Pacheco Hey, thank you! It's actually a slightly embarrassing tale of how long I've been working on this album, but that Timmons track was recorded with the bass track and the rough drum track (a sequenced loop of the basic beat that I went back and programmed fills for) that eventually became this, haha. I just winged that performance, but while this was still largely improvised I at least spent some time jamming over it first and thinking about structure. Anyway, the CD is for sale over CD Baby, and you can buy it off iTunes if that's easier. Either way, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

+Drew Peterson I can only imagine! Me and a buddy are also working on an album, with tracks from like 3 years ago... and with the music business as is, its hard to find people interested into committing themselves to the artistic growth of a new thing. it seems people only care for cover bands for a quick buck round the bar scene. sorry for the rant, but I can share the pain of creating, producing and trying to make something new!

+Gustavo Pacheco Yeah, that's part of the reason I did this as a self-produced solo project. Instrumental music doesn't really sell here either, so this came about mostly because I just really wanted to write and record it, and it was a lot easier to do that working alone and recording it myself than to try to put a band together and bring them into a studio. It kept the cost way down and meant I could do it on my own time in short spurts, and besides, I think recording and mixing are fun. The danger, of course, is it means that you have no deadline and it's VERY easy to procrastinate!!
