    Honestly, even though you think we might not need these breakdowns from the lowest ranks, it really does help to think about the gameplay slowed down like this. A lot of the time in ranked it seems we don’t have enough time to really think about everything all at once, but when it’s displayed like this I feel I can look at each different part of my gameplay to see where I can improve. Every time one of the RTSSL series come out, I always find myself going up a division or two permanently.

      i'm just gonna come out and say this, i don't think commentating at bronze,silver, or low gold games really matter bcz at that point ppl don't know wtf is happening at all and i personally believe he should spend most time around platinum to mid diamond games bcz the saturation of play styles in those ranks is the hardest obstacle that new player fail to grasp and not to mention the fact that things start to make sense but players still fail to see the real problems that needs fixing!

    People in this rank simply need to put more time in, which is hard because the game doesn't feel good to play until you get a sense of intentionality and are able to do what you intend to do. I'm a champ player, so I'm looking forward to seeing that level, but it always feels by the time you get there you have so much momentum that you shoot right past champ in like 6 games. Anyways, much love Leth and thanks for all the content.

      Yeah. I got back into the game this week after not playing for 3-4 years and after watching a lot of RL in those years, I knkw what needs to happen mentally, but I don’t have the skills to match that.
      I’m mostly just hanging back in my games (silver 2 in 1,2,3s after a weekend of messing around) and waiting for opportunities but its so chaotic with everyone ball chasing and getting bumped around and not having the aim yet to accurately shoot :,)
      I know patience is key but man js if annoying sometimes

    The biggest thing I'm trying to learn is how to play FAST.
    I'm GC1 right now - peak 1582 (2s), and the biggest thing my ssl friends say (when I play 3s) is I'm just slow to the ball - but I've spent so much time playing back and as a 3rd man that I don't recognize when I should be turning up field and chasing. I doubt this will be teachable in this series though because you can't see my gameplay.

    Hey leth, i think saving replays and jumping in on that bakkes mod replay plugin thing would be cool to show speed. Let me explain: U can play nice and slow like ur doing here and then save the replay and show moving quicker and taking a show or making a turn can help u beat players to the ball. I think that would be a massive help to players c3 and above.

    My suggestion for these lower ranks is to explain the best ways to hit the ball, how to 50/50 well, and explain why you are waiting backpost and not scooting up to front post. Also would love it for you to explain why rotations go not on the ball side so i can send your episodes to my non-comp friends.

  • @The_Bink14
    @The_Bink14 6 місяців тому +3

    It seems like for a lot of these players, especially when it comes to defense, they see you in a better position to make a play on the ball and when you move away or dont act at all wanting them to do it (when it doesn't make much sense) it just further muddies the game and maybe incentivizes self reliance/ball chasing in the lower elos. I know that's not at all your goal as you're trying to teach people how to properly play. That said i have many friends that are legitimately in this lower range and they get confused very easily on the field and because of their own inexperience they may not receive the correct message.
    I'm in no way an expert here though so I could also be completely wrong, just wanted to put it out there that intentionally letting goals go when you're in a prime position to make a play could be reinforcing bad habits amongst your teammates in this range.
    I love your content and everything you've done for the game so I'm certainly not trying to put you down. Just wanted to give you another perspective to think of it from.

    • @SA80TAGE
      @SA80TAGE 6 місяців тому

      "I know that's not at all your goal as you're trying to teach people how to properly play." - Yes, which is exactly why he ISN'T charging at the ball and jumping on every possible opportunity that the average player in those ranks would waste anyway when they sky it at full speed.... he literally explains this _in the video_ ....almost like you entirely missed the point that players SHOULDN'T be smacking the ball like Will Smith smacking Chris Rock, like every touch is the most the urgent thing ever that will somehow result in a miraculous shot on goal. You don't have to play fast, to play good... that was todays lesson, well done for ignoring it. Like all the ball chasers that have no trust in their teammate in this video, you'll see in defence most of them panic and dive in before the ball even gets near Leth. Their confusion stems more from the fact that they haven't yet grasped this is a team game, not a "you are the chosen chad" game, so they do not expect someone to do passing plays and not be selfish on the ball like themselves.

    It's important to remember that new accounts go through every rank that the system can give them when they are doing placements. Then, your MMR adjusts based on win/loss. The closer you get to 10 placement matches, the closer in MMR your opponents get to you. It'll try to give you Bronze, Silver, Gold, Plat, etc. in the order they appear in the ranking to determine where your new account will sit initially. That's why new people are slightly overranked when they finish and derank in the next game, since the last match is likely the place where the game is confident your skill level sits. Only thing is you get oodles of MMR due to the sigma value (uncertainty) of your MMR for that playlist being really high.

    Great content Leth!
    My bro and I have been playing for 11 months and normally place in the mid to high diamond range with fair mechanics (both of just starting out with air dribbles and stuff, but mostly reliable speed flips, wave dashes etc), even though both of us have reached Champ 1 in 2s now and again, but I have also found myself back in Plat 3 for a little bit.
    I would love some advice on 2 things: I personally struggle a lot facing players who early challenge all the time, even when I play safely à la Flakes or yourself. They just go for everything and even though I feel like I do the correct thing (not rushing, taking 50s, fake challenging, …), I find myself unable to punish their (what feels to me like) mindless playstyle.
    The 2nd thing is when playing with my bro, we both have a fair game sense, but struggle with when a cut in rotation makes sense for the game. My bro cuts all the time and I never know if he’s rotating out or going for it again, so sometimes we end up with an open net because for once, I didn’t play it safe and just waited…. Thanks and keep it up

    • @breakerone1927
      @breakerone1927 6 місяців тому +2

      I'm high champ, so just keep that in mind when reading what I have to say. For your not being able to punish people you feel you should be able to ask yourself how good is my offense? How often do I convert 1v1's? How threatening are my plays on average? Then, try to find the answers to those questions. Figure out where your strong points and weak points are in offense and polish them/work on them. If you feel you have been doing that and you feel improvement with that, give yourself time. Also, play 1's with a focus on possession. For cutting rotation; watch replays back from your teammates' perspective with a focus on how far you are from the play. And if you were your teammate in that position, would you cut rotation as well? If yes, then try positioning a bit closer to give your teammate the ability to go back. If you feel like your positioning is good and your teammate is cutting anyways then you two should have a talk on what needs to change. Also, if you guys can communicate just ask them, what would you like to see me improve for our team? And am i doing anything that makes you feel like you have to cut rotation?And last thing id like to add is communication can ALWAYS improve so try to get better at "comming" Lastly, I'd like to add, ask yourself, is my defense to the level of what rank I want? So if I'm diamond and I want to be champ, I'll ask myself, am I a champ defender? If not, then I practice. If my answer to the question is, idk what a champ defenders look like, then I'd do some research, specifically champ lvl players in 1v1. Hope my thoughts help at all

    Would love to hear some pointers on 50s, like roughly your thoughts behind them when they come. And if there's any technique to them. I find I lose them quite a bit (so much so, I call them 20s). There's times where I feel like I make my car "big", I think I've covered all angles, but still get pushed back and through by the opponent somehow. Like my car is made out of styrofoam. Then there's many times where I feel I have the initiative, and am hitting the ball square with full force, and my opponent is at some awkward angle, but still manages to stop the ball cold, or it goes straight up somehow, completely negating my momentum. Guess I should keep watching. =]

    I know this might take longer next year but something I would love to see is instead of you going from gold to ssl its a series of you coaching a player to their next rank. You should have enough fans to where there will be someone from each rank who is willing to learn and is okay on recording. You could record it over a couple on months say like 3 months and show the progress of the player. It would take say a half hour per rank per week for that 3 months which would be 3 and a 1/2 hours ish unless you do scrimages. I think it would be cool to see and something I havent seen from other creators.

    This is so good to watch. Like you playing in lower rank showing why ballchasing is dumb, and chilling far back can be good.
    I wish I could run some matches with you like this, and you could give me advice.

    Hey Leth, I had a question. In this episode you talk a lot about just letting your teammates ballchase and to just sit back. This is the style of play I have employed for a long time. The problem is what to do in high diamond where defense of the opponents is too coordinated for your teammate to 1v2. Also, teammates at this rank don't go for passes or even bumps once they get off they ball. They just race to the nearest boost leaving me in a 2v1 because of their failed offensive play. I try to position in a way that the ball will come to me, but my teammates at this rank do not take 50/50s in a way that keeps possession for our team; the opponents are skilled enough to take control of the ball by dribbling, going for a bouncing shot, etc., so I tend to get scored on quite a bit in these 2v1 scenarios. Another consequence of my teammates ballchasing is that I rarely get to affect the game offensively. When I do get possession, I have to worry about my teammate positioning too aggressively and must be overly cautious attacking because if I get beat their will be no one to stop the opponent's counterattack.
    Sorry for the long comment. I have been hardstuck in diamond for a few years, and the main problem has been not knowing what to do in situations like this (and also my mechs). Thank you for all the great content.

    I've been watching your channel for years and have been anticipating this series since you said you were planning to do 3's. I have one recommendation that you are free to disregard.
    I think you should play just strong enough to not lose. Getting held up in lower levels by letting the other team win doesn't really help with the goal you have of educating the community and rising through the ranks.
    Though it will make the series longer, and it's hard to complain about that.

    On the one Hand i Love those Road to SSL contants, you can learn a lot and recieve usefull advises in evers rank. On the other hand it IS so frustrating for the Players, who play against you. They have No chance to win and then they feel bad and are tilted.

    Even though i think people will be more engaged in the higher ranks (since in all categories the most views or followers get the best players) but really helping or an impact will be having more of the gameplays from plat 3 to champ 1 since there is the majority of the playerbase. :)

    A couple plat/diamond videos would be great, in my opinion. I know the majority of players are around those ranks (including me). But I think making those ranks last a couple videos each could be very helpful to the majority of player. Thank you, leth. ❤

    I am brand new. I have played about 8 hours? I spent like 2 hours in freeplay before I even played cause I was curious about the controls. Spent like 5 and a half hours in ranked and placed like silver or something. Pretty much everyone in silver scores on me like 10 times and I can't even touch the ball. I only have a chance when fighting bronze players pretty much. Not very fun so far but I imagine the game is more fun once you get good at it. I'll probably play more at some point when I don't have so much on my plate. My GC friend recommended your channel and said you were the best rocket league content creator. Interesting how you don't just obliterate the gold players and actually try to articulate your thoughts well. Definitely gonna watch more.
