    I own a 09 X 77000km
    400hp at engine
    Driven Evo 7 and 8
    Here is my general experience
    The 4g simply feels more raw and brutal with sudden boosting feels very strong but definitely feel the lag and sluggishness in the lower rpms
    The Evo X feels definitely more refined less brutal more consistent torque and power band through the revs
    The turbo lag is minimal and car responds so rapidly to boost and picks up speed to fast it’s shocking After fast it spools and slams through the gears
    It’s by far the more advanced faster and more reliable engine.

    I bought a lancer race car with a 4b11 NA motor in it. I sent it to a machine shop to have work done and discovered that the crankshaft is NOT a 4b11 crank. The rod journals are measuring 1.8882 which seems to be close to the 4G63 crank size. Is it possible to fit a 4g63 crank in a 4b11 block?

    I have a 4b11 with a built bottom end, but no sleeves. It's a 86.5 overbore. What do you think the max HP and torque should be on the stock sleeves? Does the overbore significantly weaken the block?

    There’s also another option for the 4b11
    Cylinder support systems. It makes the simiopen deck to a closed deck. Can probably do 1000 hp on stock sleeves with a ccs block if your making close to 800 on simiopen and it cheap

      I do not know of any options other then dry sleeves = open deck , wet sleeves = closed deck, or block guard = which is open deck with support. Would u be able to send me a link to an example of what ur talking about ?

    It's interesting you love the Darton. A big head gasket manufacturer was telling me it's junk and just because it's the most popular doesn't mean it's the best sleeve.

    My 4B11 is the same setup as that one, with the Darton sleeves. Borg Warner 8374 twin scroll, 93 octane, AMS TMP cams, fully built... 600 HP/400TQ at 27 PSI, takes it no problem, I’ve done some pretty wild shit in the snow full throttle for like 2 minutes straight and it got toasty under the hood, but didn’t phase it, built Jacks transfer case. The problem is the tranny, they’re real easy to kill. Diffs are real strong. If the tranny were stronger, the Evo X would be one if the best platforms for making huge power and hooning around

      agreed. he weight is the biggest issue i feel. the car and its components have a much better life expectancy below 3000lb

      Well that's a machine shops job. I don't change sleeves . You wouldn't want to do it either , it requires experience and expensive machinery

    DB. I would like to run GSC S2 cams in my Evo X. Are the cams straight dropped in or do I have to make changes to the valve tappet?

      U do have to shim the buckets and adjust to lash. It's recommend u do stronger springs and retainers and replace ur stock valves with none hollow ones. I go one step further and delete the exhaust mivec cam gears.

      All on the power ur trying to achieve , bigger the bore on stock sleeves the weaker ur aluminum cylinder will be. I personally would not go more then 20 over.

      I think I saw that the fastest 3kgt is running a 4g63

      6g74 is built just as tough as the 4g series. Do the standard things, head studs, rod bolt upgrade, main studs. Japan produced a number of high horsepower 6g motors back in the day. There are 1k hp Mitsubishi gto's running around out there.

      Not a fan, it was very popular on Honda's back in the days. If ur getting to the point where u need block guards/closed decking welded or not, might as well sleeve the block.

      This particular one was done by Darton them selves. Make sure you contact Darton on East coast not west.

    I just had my dry sleeves drop.
    1000kms later they all dropped 2 thou even
    Letting hg blow.
    Ive just decked it back flush so hopefully its good again.
    Next time im going wet sleeves

      For track I would do a 2.0 , or of u really want displacement, 2.2 stroked not big bore.

      @@user-jh9hi1bv3i head gasket sealing issues. The bigger the bore the harder is is to seal the combination chamber. So stroking the crank vs increasing the bore is a better option

    Great info! I now can decide between dry-sleeve or wet-sleeve my 4b11. Like others have asked, “what is the price range and difference between dry and wet sleeve?”

      Pre-sleeved Wet sleeves are around $1400-$1600. Dry ones are $300-$400 less.

      @@bdalchemist ​ Yes, when i'm ready in about a couple of months here, i'll probably send them a MANLEY BILLET 94MM STROKER CRANKSHAFT, TITANIUM CONNECTING RODS, KING PISTONS or DIAMOND PISTONS...all for them to balance and assemble with the wet-sleeve.

    Informative video. My 4b11 has ERL 87.5mm wet sleeves, it doesn't have the cylinder support like the darton sleeves. Hopefully it can still handle the 850-900whp I am about to throw at it :D

      It can, u'll be fine , just don't get a small turbo and string it out. Get something that flows 95lb

    Do you know the weight difference between your darton sleeved 4b11 and a 4g63 block?
    I imagine weight would be the main benefit. Slightly better heat dissipation on an alu block aswell I guess.

      Do not know actual difference but from picking it up I would estimate 25-30lb difference even with sleeves. Also the iron of the 4g63/64 is different then that of the sleeves. The sleeve material is much stronger compound then the iron block.

    One point of your description of the 4b11 is a little unclear. The block is aluminum but it already has steel sleeves from the factory as all aluminum blocks do. The performance sleeves replace the factory

      4g63 block from factory is stronger. 4b11 is more efficient. Block can be sleeved to hold similar Power.
      Evo 8/9 lighter and easier to make fast on dragstrip. Evo x heavier and cost more to make fast on drag strip. Evo x has a better chasis but weighs more. $ for power analysis the 4g63 would win. $ for speed analysis Evo 8/9 would win. This is probably because the 63 motor has been around for a while and more support is available. Same for the car.

      Depends on power goals but machine shop and assembly labor around $2000-$2500 + parts. That's if u just send in a bare block

    There's been guys in the DSM community that have made 600Awhp on stock 4g63 internals, but as for longevity who the hell know's. 500AWHP is pretty attainable and easily, not bad for an engine that came out in 1982...... 4B11 has the advantage by a long ways.
    How much power have people even made with the 4B11?

      C G There is a difference smartass, a base lancer runs on 4b11 and the evo runs on 4b11t. Yes the t stands for turbo but there is a difference in the build other than the turbo

      "heavily" ? Most engines in the market require sleeves now because most are aluminum. The 4b11 definitely has a better head.

      Change is hard for some people. Iron block is cheaper to make power not easier to a point.

      I think it comes down to what you're looking for in an engine. If you want to modify your car and run big power the 4g63 is the 'better' engine because it is stronger. But on the other hand the 4b11 is lighter, quicker throttle response, revs more freely. Which in a stock or lightly modded car is better. I have an evo 7 and a sti and everybody says the ej257 is a crap engine because of its chocolate pistons. Well yes arguably from a reliability stand point the ej isn't a great engine. But the way the engine performs is brilliant. It's smooth, has lots of torque and a generally really pleasant engine for a road car, far nicer than the 4g63 in the evo.

      @@MikecrossfitnessI'm aware of the Red Demon. I believe it just ran a 7.1 in the quarter. Very fast 4g powered car.
      Understand this though, The 4g63 has also had 30+ years of testing and tuning. The 4b11t has had 11+. Look up "Grade-A-Garage Evo X" it ran an 8.1 sec quarter mi. 1 second slower than the Red Demon. It's only a matter of time before there's a 4b11t doing 7's. I don't think that's what one would consider "outshining".
