babylon 5 was the first scifi show to show real space combat like battlestar galactic and the expance,great stories,villians,heroes,not so heroes,epic space battles one of the great scifi shows of all time in my book
It's so impressive how much quality JMS was able to squeeze out of such a small budget. The graphics, acting, set design, prosthetics, and music! Whenever I am confused what a producer does, I think of JMS.

Currently rewatching the full series. In my opinion, it was and remains the best sci-fi series ever created...The first series had its fair share of dodgy acting (especially the extras) and the odd naff episode with some kind of moral to the tale but once the real storyline unfolded then it all came together and kicked ass, i loved the build up to the shadow war and babylon 5’s pull away from Earthforce...gripping stuff!!!

Nothing like it had ever been made before (or since) and poor Michael O'Hare was literally going through hell. As Joe puts it, he hung on by the skin of his teeth to not have a psychotic break.
not to mention there many compantin was star trek deep space nine and had a rivaly with the show but came a peaceful end with actors on both show guest staring
at each end of the year, i start to listen to this music, and thinking about what happend that year and what may come fore the next year, specailly when that Vorlon alien said ..... and so it begin.... it gives me a strange feeling.
Oh man, in the S4 theme, it's amazing how the crescendo and build up culminates at 7:30 with that one badass, low string/synth note, along with percussion, leading straight into the re-mixed S1/S2 title music.
Listening to these soundtracks brought back some good memories. I really liked this sci-fi series and wish that its sequel-Crusade- could have run for its intended five-year arc..

If you are looking for a game with accurate space flying and combat look into "Independence War 2". Being a fan of B5 when I was young and liking physics, it was the most conceptually accurate design and feel for a space sim I've ever played.
I have been waiting this for the first time, and every surprise is well done, every episode is a new idea. I have learned valuable lessons from this show. I love the characters, and the music, and the story. 5 stars for Babylon 5!
Welcome to the fold. Babylon 5 is probably the best kept secret in all of Science Fiction. I was there in the early nineties and have been a fan ever since. That18 months waiting period between the finale of season 3 and the start of season 4 on VHS was not good for my mental health. I am currently on my third set of DVD's and am eagerly waiting to get my hands on the bluray sdition. I have recently seen "The Road Home" and was once more blown away by the writing of that show. Now I can only wait for the highly anticipated reboot.
That's probably mostly due to the fact that at the time nobody knew of there would be a season 5 at all, so they had to put most of the stuff that was supposed to happen in season 5 into season 4 (like the entire shadow-vorlon conclusion). Which didn't leave too much story for season 5.
It truly was. All these themes give me goosebumps. Don't get me wrong, I love several of the Trek franchises, I love Stargate SG1, but I can watch B5 over and over again. I can't remember being so gripped by a tv show in my life. Thanks be to the Great Maker and all His Minions ;) You're sorely missed.
This music brings to mind the majesty of the human condition and really makes me want to get back into writing. Whether monstrous or heroic, human potential is an exceptional thing in nature.
5:53 when you notice how you turn your whole body to compensate the camera rotation around B5 and then... you open your eyes and lay in the bed, upside down with the feet on the pillow and you don't know how you got there...
It was truly a breathe of fresh air with it's storytelling style . I was glad to see a tv show that had a story arc . Other shows I've watched would've benefited from this approach. Not just of this genre but any others. Most of the shows I watch now are like this.
The season 5 theme is the best, because every bit of accomplishment this show earned is in that track and in the title sequence itself, especially getting it's fifth season at the 11th hour when by all rights, it was the end. Yeah, season 5 suffered because of that, with it's intended A-plot crammed back into season 4 and a really bad filler arc trying to pad it out (coughByroncough) but I could never get into the "is it worth bothering with at all" debate. Yes, it could have been a lot more, yes, if you have an eye for storytelling, the problems are going to leap out. Still, while I was thinking "this could have been more," I never thought "this isn't worthwhile." Come to think of it, B5's last season not measuring up might seem like a very quaint notion to new viewers who watched Game of Thrones go down in flames first.
I recall the now-missing original pilot music by Kamen. If anyone recalls the original 1980s 'The Equaliser' titles, it was like that, but better. Recent re-issues of 'The Gathering' no longer have it. It's a great lost theme, IMHO.
Fab music-this must be on a par with Ennio Morricone or John Barry, John Williams or any of the great film music composers, along with Mickey Erbe and Maribeth Solomon., and a host of others.
Coming off of this as a kid, Star Trek music always felt flat, lame and pathetic. Even the Season 1 intro is better than anything Trek put out, and Seasons 3, 4 and 5 just rape the competition without breaking a sweat.

I love Babylon 5 for it's accurate portrayal of space warfare, enemies duking it out at long-range but point-blank brawls do happen.
Have you seen The Expanse yet? That's has some good accurate portrayals of space warfare. The battle for Thoth station is quite well done.

It's kind of nice to have a long epilogue after spending four years with the characters.
What I found interesting is that the show did not try to put humans at the top of the hierarchy. It portrayed humans as one of the "younger" races.
