The fact that this game's soundtrack breaks into lyrics when it reaches an emotional climax technically makes Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance a musical.
"I need to tell you something ... Please listen, and try not to panic. You've been singing the wrong lyrics for, quite some time. Yes yes, I know, you would like to know how long. Im afraid its been ... nine years."
Well then if you're said so: And so, if you and I were looking on the next year (2023 🐰🐇), it's probably lived up for *10 years and a decades worth of it's worldwide popularity* (and the MEMES made of it) right...😎
Rules of Nature: The law of the wild. Kill or be killed. I’m My Own Master Now: No chains to hold me, I am free. A Stranger I Remain: The desolate search for purpose. A place to belong if only for a time. The Hot Wind Blowing: Soldiers follow orders. What’s the point? I rise above and fight for more. The Stains of Time: Violence comes and goes as nature dictates until we die. Even as our hopes die it will go on until the inevitable end. Red Sun: The bloodthirsty paradise, an Eden of violence. The Only Thing I Know for Real: Identity lost to the madness and violence. Collective Consciousness: The power of the executive and the enslaved minds of the people. It Has to Be This Way: The sad clash of two unrelenting yet similar people. Mirror images of themselves, but only one walks forward while the other will bleed out into the soil, to water the ground for the future.
Seeing people’s personal rankings is amazing. I’ve seen Hot Wind Blowing and Red Sun in people’s first and last, and such vastly different lists. And yet nobody gets mad about other people’s rankings because the songs are all good
A Giant Nuclear Mech made of Carbon-Nano fiber, a material tougher than steal but much lighter, with a sword designed to cut through metal like it was butter. You wanna talk about going against nature this scenario is the best showing of it.
Ray isn't nuclear. Most of the metal gears aren't in Rising era. It's more of a anti city/high populated area warmachine now. The same that there is no pilot anymore but they are UG, they evolved according to how war turned, especially with the fact that there is cyborgs for the more "humans" tasks.
Honestly, Khamsin’s theme is so underrated, especially because it’s in the dlc, and only plays during the final finisher for his fight. I’m happy it’s now seeing a lot more recognition now that the game is getting more attention.

I really like how the wikia page describes the last song "The lyrics cover the personal admission, almost an apology, that the singer and their opponent have to fight against each other, even though there's little fault of their own or even any real reason for fighting, as violence begets violence. It can be interpreted as Armstrong and/or Raiden coming to recognize the similarities between their personal philosophies - similarities that allow them to understand each other's motivations, but which also force them to battle to the death." IN short, that in a way the two COULD have gotten along since they both agree that violence just breeds more violence but sadly they too have to fight for their views.

It’s because he’s the least memorable boss, not being part of the main story. Everyone remembers Monsoon and his meme speech, or Sam and his just coolness or Armstrong and his dramatic monologues and all the memes made about him.
Metal Gear Ray: It fights because that's what it was designed to do. Blade Wolf: It fights because it is forced to, even if it knows it is pointless. Mistral: She fights because she wants to have a purpose, even if it is a wrong one. Monsoon: He fights because only by fighting he feels something different to despair and emptiness. Sundowner: He fights because he loves the chaos and thrill of the fight. Sam: He fights because he wants to find someone better than him to fulfill his mission. MG Excelsus: It is used to fight to expand the memes of the patriots. Armstrong: He fights because he believes only by destroying everything can a new society raise. Khamsin: He fights because he is a soldier and they are made to fight.
It really says something about the composing team and the game itself when almost every single soundtrack is incredible and unique telling a message about each character’s personal plights and thoughts. You don’t often find a game where nearly every track is super memorable and meaningful. The composers of Rising really did a fantastic job and to see a further insight I highly recommend watching the video “Why Metal Gear Rising Revengeance’s Music is Genius.”
It's because the designers knew they couldn't fit in the backtory and motivations of the bosses into the game without sacrificing pacing. So they decided that you could put them safely into the songs of their bossfights and as players hopefully replayed it, they'd just get it. That's also why you have times in the boss fights where there are no lyrics like the copies, they're only the same physically and not mentally so they don't get the lyrics, or when Sam gets his sword knocked out. He's only at peace and calm when he's not fighting. Same with Sundowner, he's not himself hiding behind his shields so when you slice them off and he engages in his butcher mode does the lyrics pop out because he's finally *him*. It's a minor decision that had huge impacts in the game itself and we are so lucky they took this approach to it.
My favorite part of this game was when Samuel said, "Join us to celebrate National Ball Check Day™ on the first Tuesday in April to raise awareness for testicular cancer." Truly one of the most inspiring and badass quotes in history
And then Raiden counterclaimed his advertisement with a national geographic of the worldwide deaths of pigs after treatment for testicular cancer. The game is just too good
the red sun part is definitely something more than a beat drop. The lyrics are made so perfectly, that it makes the psychological action where the person is definitely into the music
there's a sort of drag to the vocals as well as the music itself, like it's taking a ton of effort, like how moving such a giant metal gear would take effort and energy.
This Soundtrack has literally saved my ass like twice at this point: I used it to study for a test and absolutely aced it, and it playing through my headphones helped me not lose my phone on a bus. This soundtrack is absolutely Godlike, to the point of being able to genuinely stop bad stuff from happening. 100/10 soundtrack, absolute bangers all around.
Blade Wolf: "Even if I am forced to fight, it doesn't mean I have to give up on my desire to be free to choose my own path" Mistral: "The battlefield will always embrace you, even when you don't feel welcome anywhere else. In time it will become your only home" Monsoon: "Becoming accustomed to violence will purge you of doubts and fear, but also make everything else feel meaningless" Sundowner: "We are just beasts with an unkillable instinct for violence. Humanity is no better than animals preying on and devouring each other" Sam: "I am left an empty shell, all my life is good for is as a tool for killing. There's no sense hating what I've become because fighting is all I can do." Armstrong: "(1)If you establish a hierarchy based on anything but strength and merit, people will just sheepishly accept to be controlled. They are no better than slaves. (2)It doesn't matter if you understand your enemy's ideals, in the end you will have to clash with them if you want to stand up for your own"

It has to be this way,The only thing I know for real,Rules of Nature is pretty much the only thing mostly related to the story It has to be this way is about Death,Life being gone but it nothing more than normal thing that happen in our world, even if World War III happen,a human will still be born beneath the blood of human death, and Violence breed violence,it like you talking shit to someone, then it bring violence then the violence bring even more violence, So many life gone but nobody to blame, yes many life gone but who to blame? Death could happen without Human even doing it,there is no point of not killing or killing cause Human will die anyway Rules of Nature is about only strong can live on,and the weak shall perish which is also make sense, because Woman are weaker than man and you know what happen mostly to woman? R#pe,Only Stronger can rule, like Hitler,he is evil and has no good point on living, but he is stronger than us It rules of Nature, that how our reality work you can't defy that Rule that nature made The only thing I know for real is about, when war happen you go to the place it is just a desolated place that has no trace of living being, you don't know the season but what is the reason of knowing what the day what the season? You are standing there fighting for your life without a reason to do it,then again the only thing we can be sure when fighting in war there will be bloodshed Man in the mirror nod his head, kind of refer of you being proud of yourself for what you have done,The only one... LEFT will ride upon the dragon back,is referring to a guy in war that have the most known history as the only one Cause the mountains don't give back what they take, this referring to your decision in life,1 small decision can make big impact to your life like wasting even 1second of your time,God won't give back what you have done.
I think the thing I like the most about this soundtrack, is all these people can be represented as pieces of Raiden. What I mean by this, is that the themes work for both the villain, AND Raiden as well. Rules of nature is the strong vs the weak, hunter vs. Prey... But Raiden or Ray... Which is which? I'm my own master now is about control. An Ai being forced to fight or lose its self, believes that it is in charge of itself and it is the one choosing to fight. Raiden in MGS4 said he wouldn't be anyone's tool anymore, and yet here he is, following some code that even he doesn't know what it means anymore. Is he truly free? Are any of them? A Stranger I remain. Mistral and Raiden are both technically from overseas. He was a child soldier in Liberia, Mistral was a child soldier from Algeria. In the end, being on the battlefield they both were able to cut loose and it's there they found their purpose. It's where they were happy...but why? The Stains of Time. Monsoon and Jack. Both scarred by war. Pain. Pain washes over both of them. The difference, is Jack the Ripper relishes pain. He feels the pain to "remember what he fights for" which is so no one will have to feel the pain he does. If he feels pain, it means he is taking that pain from someone else, Monsoon on the other hand is filled with so much pain, he wants to spread it to everyone else. That in the end, life is pain, and that's all there is. You feel pain, drown in the mud, and die. Red Sun. The Glory or Devastation of War depending on how you view the lyrics. You can view it as, a paradise happening as a result, or a paradise being RUINED as a result. "I the distance machines come to transform Eden day by day" this line sticks out to me as child soldiers, "machines" going onto the battlefield, and destroying things on site in the case of Raiden. He was destroying beautiful scenery, leaving things to rot, and the peace he found with himself was, it was meant to happen. Because he was a machine. In terms of Jacked Bezos, it is talking about the glory of the battlefield. Beautiful scenery, heavenly lands, the circle of life etc... It's natural. To him he's in nature taking in the scenery. The only thing I know for real. Raiden again is questioning his own motives. He can't just be doing this because he loves to kill, can he? There has to be some deeper meaning. Why is he fighting? Why does he care? What is his goal? We'll he knows his goal but why IS IT his goal? Sam it's not that he doesn't know why he is fighting, it's we the viewer who's confused as to why they're fighting. That's my interpretation at least as I have not played the DLC. Colloctive Conciousness. It's literal in both ways. What I mean by this is it can be viewed as Raiden arguing against these points and saying them defiantly and sarcastically, where Armstrong is embodying and saying these things. It Has to be this way. This is where we come full circle. Raiden finally realizes why he fights. Because he, was weak, and no one fought for him. He had to fight for himself, and he does not anyone to become like him. If Armstrong has his way, it will be The Strongest will Survive. The weak will no longer have a voice. Raiden then embodies all of his enemies and their virtues into realizing his purpose and how he was molded. He started weak but became strong. The hunter became his prey. He was under control of his beliefs but had no idea why. He realises he is not under his beliefs control. No, he CHOOSES to follow his beliefs. He found what he was looking for. He suffers on the battlefield so no one else has to. Pain is his motivator. He hates others being subjected to pain if they don't have to. The weak don't deserve it. He will kill like a machine if he has to, to change the lands into the Eden he once knew. He now knows why he fights and who he is. He is the voice of the weak. He is Raiden. He is Lightning, the Rain Transformed. Stay Awes9me.
Actually the only thing i know for real Is for raiden not for Sam, Sam actual song Is the last one that Is why It only sounds when you are fighting Armstrong with His sword and the song stops when Armstrong makes you loose the sword
unknown facts: - every other battle theme in this game are raiden themes... yes he have themes, and A SOUL CAN'T BE CUT is in specific for jack - Rules of Nature have a "BETA" version named: "locked & loaded" - there are so much unnamed and forgotten secondary themes in the game
Wander Badass It has to be this way isn’t Armstrong’s theme, fun fact. It’s Raiden’s. It shows that Armstrong is rubbing off on Raiden, as demonstrated in the ending when he is show repeating some of what Armstrong said. Whoever had won the battle would’ve emerged changed, stronger for it in both body and ideals.

Red Sun is my favorite. It’s doesn’t go all total Metal on you. It’s calmer and slower. The lyrics describe Sundowner so well, and the singer… the singer… he’s awesome.
@@Cat-pv6yx It Has To Be This Way is more so both of their themes, Collective Consciousness is what Raiden thinks is Armstrong's theme before he fights him.
I get that everyone thinks that "It Has to be This Way" is overrated, but hear me out. It makes for the *perfect* final boss music. Like think about it. Hear as the music swells at the very beginning, letting you know shit's about to go down. The way it can maintain that feeling of "This is it. This is what I've worked so hard to achieve." is simply incredible. And of course, the vocals are a godsend.
I love pretty much love all of the songs I’m my own Master is just good in my opinion It’s a bit more chill than the other songs. I should play mgr to get context
I think it has to do with everybody memeing it to death to the point where some got sick of it, so when they hear the full thing it's not as special as hearing it the first time. It's still fire tho and fitting to the whole thing. It's kind of like they knew the previous tracks were intense enough already, making it more heroic and meaningful shows how far you've come and what you learned throughout the rest of the game.
Oh it's a very fitting song for the final boss, I just think it overshadows the rest of these tracks and imo it's my least favourite (not to imply it's bad - it's great - but the bar is out of the atmosphere)
Honestly what I love about this is that nobody can agree on a definitive "best song" out of the whole OST. It really goes to show that all of them are amazing and should be equally loved.
Bruh i just downloaded this game today, it's a crime I didn't know this game long ago. I got goosebumps all over my body when raiden lifted up the first Boss with just his bare hands
I like how the start actually foreshadows the entire plot; “No guarantee which of them will succeed, strong or weak.”, which is the entire plot, weak fighting the strong.
Ya know, when I played the game I thought that "Collective consciousness" was Armstrong's song and that "It has to be this way" represented Raiden. As he came to the end of his journey he learned from his past opponents and realized that it's not about fighting for the right cause, for who is he to judge the right from wrong, but about fighting for what he believes in. As how much a meme this game is, the soundtrack is what makes it stand out for me the most.
I remember seeing Sundowner boss fight back when i was 7, at that time i don't know what game that is 10 years later finally get to play it. This game is a masterpiece
Best soundtrack I have ever heard. When my cat heard it, he broke every rule of nature. My grandparent's dog became her own master. As for me, I was just a stranger until I heard it, despite the fact that the hot wind was blowing stains onto the sun. The best part of this OST is that "Stains of Time". "Red Sun". "The Only Thing I Know For Real". "Collective Consciousness" and "It Has To Be This Way" could all be final boss themes.
For me it's: 1. Stains of time (it's fast and intense and I love monsoon) 2. Red sun (the guitar at the start and the chorus is one of the best things I've heard) 3. The only thing I know for real (bit overplayed but still good) 4. Collective consciousness (THE UNENLIGHTENED MASSES) 5. It has to be this way (the vocals are godly) 6. The hot wind blowing (it's fast and intense ) 7. Rules of nature ( I have nothing to complain about it's good) 8. Stranger i remain ( it starts a bit slow but I love the chorus) 9. I'm my own master now (it's good but not it's not something that I can really get into) Note: i don't necessarily dislike any of them it's just that I like others more than some songs and threatening me in the replies won't help at all

It can be interpreted as Armstrong and/or Raiden coming to recognize the similarities between their personal philosophies - similarities that allow them to understand each other's motivations, but which also force them to battle to the death."

It really says something about the composing team and the game itself when almost every single soundtrack is incredible and unique telling a message about each character’s personal plights and thoughts. You don’t often find a game where nearly every track is super memorable and meaningful. that part when sam looses his sword and the lyrics stop...
The fact that the guy who made this also made the toon town music is slightly terrifying
pretty easy to do that when your game lasts 5 hours
@@klausivarschmitt5133 it's also when Raiden looses his sword while fighting the senator

I think The Only Thing I Know For Real is the best in terms of story and its meaning for Sam's character, but honestly the biggest bop of the OST is A Stranger I Remain 100%
This guy understands.
It has to be this way,The only thing I know for real,Rules of Nature is pretty much the only thing mostly related to the story
It has to be this way is about Death,Life being gone but it nothing more than normal thing that happen in our world, even if World War III happen,a human will still be born beneath the blood of human death, and Violence breed violence,it like you talking shit to someone, then it bring violence then the violence bring even more violence,
So many life gone but nobody to blame, yes many life gone but who to blame? Death could happen without Human even doing it,there is no point of not killing or killing cause Human will die anyway
Rules of Nature is about only strong can live on,and the weak shall perish which is also make sense, because Woman are weaker than man and you know what happen mostly to woman? R#pe,Only Stronger can rule, like Hitler,he is evil and has no good point on living, but he is stronger than us
It rules of Nature, that how our reality work you can't defy that Rule that nature made
The only thing I know for real is about, when war happen you go to the place it is just a desolated place that has no trace of living being, you don't know the season but what is the reason of knowing what the day what the season? You are standing there fighting for your life without a reason to do it,then again the only thing we can be sure when fighting in war there will be bloodshed
Man in the mirror nod his head, kind of refer of you being proud of yourself for what you have done,The only one... LEFT will ride upon the dragon back,is referring to a guy in war that have the most known history as the only one
Cause the mountains don't give back what they take, this referring to your decision in life,1 small decision can make big impact to your life like wasting even 1second of your time,God won't give back what you have done.
For me "I'm my own master now" is pretty underrated

Great comment and interpretation

- every other battle theme in this game are raiden themes... yes he have themes, and A SOUL CAN'T BE CUT is in specific for jack
- Rules of Nature have a "BETA" version named: "locked & loaded"
- there are so much unnamed and forgotten secondary themes in the game

Wander Badass It has to be this way isn’t Armstrong’s theme, fun fact. It’s Raiden’s.
It shows that Armstrong is rubbing off on Raiden, as demonstrated in the ending when he is show repeating some of what Armstrong said.
Whoever had won the battle would’ve emerged changed, stronger for it in both body and ideals.
You know the name of the secondary themes? I can't find them.

I love the thematic through line of these bosses. Music can tell such good stories.
that's why they're called "theme" songs
Good music or not it didn't save them
I get that everyone thinks that "It Has to be This Way" is overrated, but hear me out. It makes for the *perfect* final boss music. Like think about it. Hear as the music swells at the very beginning, letting you know shit's about to go down. The way it can maintain that feeling of "This is it. This is what I've worked so hard to achieve." is simply incredible. And of course, the vocals are a godsend.
ukrainian chad vs senator vladimir
I love pretty much love all of the songs
I’m my own Master is just good in my opinion
It’s a bit more chill than the other songs.
Overrated means it's popular, yet bad
So youre calling that shit bad???????????
Oh it's a very fitting song for the final boss, I just think it overshadows the rest of these tracks and imo it's my least favourite
(not to imply it's bad - it's great - but the bar is out of the atmosphere)

I like how the start actually foreshadows the entire plot;
“No guarantee which of them will succeed, strong or weak.”, which is the entire plot, weak fighting the strong.
