Deathwing is a mix bag. The single player is a slog to get through but the multiplayer is a different story. I’d recommended checking out both Mandalore and RussianBadger’s videos on the game.
Edit: even though the multiplayer is better, it’s a nightmare to get working.

The RussianBadger has a Deathwing video.
And ThunderPsycher (The VA for the Custodian in Emperor Text to Speech Device) has great videos on Dawn of War.

M a n d a lore’s video on Deathwing is way better. Russianbadger doesn’t come close to explaining how bad it is.

i can tell you about one escort mission i really like. It's from Deep Rock Galactic and the mission is called "Escort Duty". You want the core of a big rock so you have to escort the Drilldozer and protect it. You get attacked and you can repair the drilldozer. After some distance is made, the dozer has no fuel so you refill it with the resources around you. At the end the drilling at the core is like a boss fight with different phases. You can still repair the dozer anytime. It's fun and you never stop doing different things. Actually an escort mission i enjoy very much. I would almost say, that those are my favorite missions in the game.

I was literally just about to say that and then I saw this at the bottom of my screen. I wholeheartedly agree. It IS technically an escort mission but the thing you're escorting absolutely helps evolve and grow the mission into new areas, and it's actually a vital part of the progression, while most escort missions are just "make sure this thing doesn't get blown up" and that's it. Also the cute little touch of being able to recover the drilldozer's "brain" at the end for a little extra goal and being able to see it on the victory screen. :)

BFGA2 does have a lot to recommend it over the first one, but I do have to say that I feel like the skirmish mode is a step back. I mean, it's nice to be able to set up custom battles for testing different ships but the mode is a lot more tedious overall and the lack of individual ship (or, indeed, fleet) progression is really noticeable.

The only good escort mission was in the Bard's Tale, because the character you were escorting was a combat powerhouse, and the whole point was to beat his kill score while you escort him.
Edit: Hunter the Reckoning: Redeemer (awful name) was an excellent Xbox Original game that had a fantastic escort mission, because not only was the target given a ton of HP, but they were also useful in combat, had a story reason that made you like them, and the healing items you found were not only plentiful but healed them by a percentage ensuring that they would be fine so long as you rescued them before falling asleep.

Escorting Joshua Graham through the White Legs in Honest Hearts is one of Fallout's peaks.

I was a bit disappointed with the Campaign variety and no open Skirmish mode like the first game. Skalgrim mod does improve this by adding "alliance" campaigns. Basically piggybacks off an existing campaign to allow you to play the other factions on the campaign maps.

I tried battlefleet gothic. It has fantastic visuals and i love the voice acting and effects but i hated playing it. Unfortunately the type of game isn't to my taste. My most common problem with a lot of strategy games is me going "i could just be playing total war instead" doesn't apply here. But shows i kinda found the niche strategy game for me

Man, I'm terrible at this game. XD
I played the Imperium campaign first, but I eventually reached a point where I was spending so much money rebuilding my frigates and destroyers cause I kept leaving them too far out. I decided to try out the Necrons instead, but the Tyranids whooped my ass because I didn't respond to boarding parties fast enough. My attention span is lacking. XD

As another owner of 1050 Ti, you shouldn't worry too much. Played it a lot solo and with my friend. Goes just fine.

Good to know! Thankfully I've been able to put the ole 1050ti to rest by now, so once I do get to this game we'll have no problems.

The Chaos mechanic looks somewhat like Nagai's settlement-giving mechanic where you get bonuses for certain troops and become able to summon/recruit blessed units.

Bioshock Infinite is the best escort mission.

5:38 I think you mean desaturated. Where everything looks more grey or grey-brown. But I disagree that that lacks artistic vision, that's actually matching color theory and done with clear intent, so it has clear artistic vision but it's overplayed. Like dull, cold colors like blues give off a sense of depression, reds give off a sense of urgency. If you're making the decision to use that color scheme in say Armored Core, people might gripe but blue greys, browns, and reds make sense in an abandoned industrial snow-covered planet. Also it works for the mood of the game. But really this stuff only applies to artist that worry about things like that.
Honestly the nids don't really work well as knowable characters imo. The whole point of them is this unknowable lovecraftian threat so they don't get characters like Lictor Lucy. You tend to get things like Old One Eye which is a unique Carnifex that looks and acts a bit different and has unique powers. Where you can more personnal characters is in the Genestealer cults, but I don't think they have unique characters either. Could be totally wrong, they are a bit new, and I didn't really look into them but just from what they are it's more of a transient faction. As in if they win, they die if they lose, they die.
Best escort mission though. Resident Evil 4 by a long shot.

I'm not an artist, and I likely didn't explain it well enough in the video, but I agree with your assessment. The design makes sense, but there's just something different about Elden Ring's art versus say a different souls-like game. I'm not knowledgeable enough about art to explain why the Fromsoft games feel so distinctively unique from all the other games that attempt to emulate it's style. Could also just be that I haven't played enough to tell the difference though.

    • @dagonofthedepths
      @dagonofthedepths 5 місяців тому

@@TheLegitWeebs Honestly if you're talking about other souls games made by from soft I don't think there is much difference. I mean it's the same game in essence. Each game had it's wow moments and interesting design concepts. Like even the first game, getting to Anor Londo, that golden city of the giants and all. Really just feel like Elden Ring front loads that stuff.
But other souls-likes, it's more starting form the position of, "make me this popular thing so I can make money." That tends to have people trying to copy the series without any really deep understanding of what made that game special, or the team's skill isn't on the same level.

You brought up the idea of a 40k Total War game, and I think that's an interesting idea. The one problem with it however is the transition from larger to smaller units with the advance of technology between medieval and modern, let alone sci-fi era weaponry. Unfortunately in the end, I think the best we'd get is something that ends up with combat gameplay similar to Dawn of War, with smaller squads of infantry instead of massive battle-lines and companies. When it comes to additional mechanics however, I think that would be interesting to see, with squads of guardsmen having to maintain their morale against a horde of Tyranids or something. Cool idea. XD
