  • Let’s try this again. New turbo. Low boost. Low rev limiter. 245 Hoosiers. Hopefully by this time next year we’ve gonna get things sorted. Lol. WDCR SCCA event 5 2019. 47.10 non comp lifestyle. Also this was during RW2 but we don’t wanna talk about that. People mad at me still.

    This almost seems sped up. I am working on a K24 swapped BRZ, and I was thinking about going with the G25-550 or 660. I want fast enough spool, but I more want it to pull to redline as much as possible.

      Don't take it as gospel but I was looking into this combo a whole lot a while ago, and as far as I could tell the 660 SHOULD get to 12-15 PSI well below 3k. Something like 2.4k if I'm remembering correctly. I know this comment's from a while ago but if you happen to still be looking for tentative answers from random people on the internet, the 660 should at the very least spool fast enough for almost anyone's performance driving needs even if I'm wrong about exactly how high the threshold is or my calculations and a bunch of people on forums' testimonies are off by a bit.

    any way we could get a link to the dyno, i would love to see the mapping and curve to help me decide on my turbo size

    Im thinking of fitting this turbo to my f20c s2000 but my major worry is the ability of the turbine to push enough exhaust gas through it without being a major restriction. Im looking at the 375/400 whp region so nothing crazy. It looks like the K24 doesnt get choked up by the turbo in this video but some dyno info would be useful. Thanks in advance for your help!

      Look at the compressor map! With a proper tune u would love it! He shouldnt have to hit 6k for 26psi someone else was hit that around 4k on a 3sgte

      Hey Mark! Mine isn't choking up just yet, but here I had like zero hp...5psi give or take...still shaking it down. I would consider either the 550 or 660 but go with the largest AR you can. Never dynod it so no idea what kinda power I'm making but should be getting around to some dyno time this spring 2021....I'll upload when I get it done :)

      aaguirre123 the .72 but this is on 3psi. Plan is to make more boost and work out the small drivetrain issues this winter.

    Cool car! I have a K24 swap too, and I'm trying to pick the right turbo... How do you like the spool of the G25-550? Do you have any dyno data?

    • @AtaTabesh
      @AtaTabesh  4 роки тому +4

      smp47 The spool is insane. Very fast. I haven’t dynoed it yet, just running on a street tune, but it’s also conservative. Hopefully this winter I can get back to working on the car and by the spring maybe schedule a dyno session. But it spools way faster than I thought it would. Almost makes me wanna think about the 660. If you’re gonna drive it on the street I’d consider 660. 550 is more the Autocross spool quickness. Instant. Track and street you could be happy with 660.

      @@AtaTabesh .. If you tune properly with boost by gear, you can manage the early spool and have the spool come on more gradually throughout the gears with proper psi at proper gears and rpm. the 550 is perfectly manageable on a k24 with a proper tune. Early spool is what you should want on the street. You obviously want it managed though with tuning to control it so that it fits your needs. On mine, I had boost set at 4-5psi in 2nd gear from 3-5K rpm and slowly increase. In 3rd gear it was 5-8 psi from 3k-5K. This really helped keep the torque of the k24 manageable and had the power come on perfectly. For the street, most people never see 5Krpm. Its rare. Having spool at 3-5K is where most drivers who drive around town would want some power to be and it is where most people spend most of their time in their rev range. Again, as long as it is tuned properly, and you are not throwing a ton of psi at it in lower gears, it is totally manageable and usable on the street. Although the 660 is a great turbo too, but whats the point of a 660 unless you are trying to make alot of power.. I feel like a 660 is just a waste for most street cars. Unless you have an awd setup or something.

      @@AtaTabesh .. Im looking at my dyno chart now, It was making 8-13psi starting at 3500rpm to 5100rpm, then full spool at 6100 at 26psi, in 3rd gear is was 12-18psi at 3400-5100rpm and then full spool again right around 6k.. Then 4th gear was just a little bit more psi at lower rpm.. All in all in was a perfect street tune. It was a Dc5 on 17x9 rpf1's and FWD and I had very minimal wheel spin. The power came on very gradually and it was very linear. Ill be going back to the 550 once I finish my k20 head build as I lost compression in my #1 cylinder from a bad valve seat that I think just got worse when I boosted it. So Im in the process of finishing a k20z1 head now. Full supertech valvetrain. CAnt wait to get the 550 back on there, and now Ill have even more rpm to play with! lol

      @ Besides boost numbers, what kind of torque numbers did you get with the g25-550 at different rpm's? Like what rpm did you hit ~300 ft lbs, and what was the torque at ~7k rpm? thanks

    • @AtaTabesh
      @AtaTabesh  3 роки тому

      Lol wouldn’t say the wrong size. It’s small but got FTD at the last WDCR SCCA ax....so saying it’s wrong is inaccurate.

      @@AtaTabesh For this specific application its pretty much like a supercharger with its low boost low rpm and it seems to work great.
      But you could have had the same performance with a more agressive diff ratio.
      And for revving it out the compressor is completely missmatched.

    • @AtaTabesh
      @AtaTabesh  3 роки тому

      @@midgrave it hits significantly sooner than the big dyno turbos you’re thinking about. For ax and track days it’s very close to the optimal spool and compressor efficiency map. Could it be larger? Maybe the 660 with the larger ar? Sure. Is it needed? Not for what I’m doing. Go check the results on the WDCR SCCA AX event that just passed. I weigh event results and real life usability more than people’s high dyno numbers, but I know that’s not cool to say.

    • @midgrave
      @midgrave 3 роки тому

      @@AtaTabesh The point of a turbo is taking boost through the whole rev range up to redline.
      For your AX event a supercharger would have been just as good, likely better.
      Also you seem to have no idea on how to read compressor maps because a 660 is closer to optimal for a 200hp k24 than a 550.
      This setup wouldnt be good for track days because on actual circuits you take your engine to high rpm where your turbo chokes your engine.
