Honda K24 Engine Build: Tracking Every Dollar Spent

  • Опубліковано 10 лют 2025
  • This video I summarized what goes into building a motor, specifically the K24. I also went through all of my billing statements and totaled up the cost.
Torque it down, torque it down, torque it down.
Trying to increase the pace on the video and also trying a new thumbnail design.
    Thanks for watching.

It got severely abused toward the end, driven months with no one even raising the hood. They ran it completely out of oil 5 times. Since it was still in my name, and they didn’t want it any more, I went and got it. Still have it. Sad ending to the best car ever! Thanks for the video !

Little tip when using plastigauge on the bearings, good practice is to use the old bolts, on some engines the bolts are torqued to yield, meaning they stretch when fully torqued to spec. You'll have to buy new ones when you want to assemble the engine if you use the new ones!

I built a monster 383 SBC for my camaro recently. 568 hp 531 lbft tq NET hp (measured with all accessories including hydroboost) perfectly streetable on 91 octane. My grand total was 11k CANADIAN with brand new heads, full new forged rotating assembly, the full suite of machine work on a 4 bolt main block and an excellent carb. The engine will take about 950 hp and roughly 8k rpm extremely safely. All that's required for boost is swapping the heads for larger volume combustion chambers. The carb is blowthrough ready and an electric fuel delivery system was included in my 11k total. I can achieve roughly 23mpg on the highway if I tune the carb for a road trip. I like the k series engines, but that price tag is not it man. There is no way that k24 is sitting at even half the hp of my 383. I love honda, but that price to performance ratio is not it.

@@Greengoblin0481but they are a crate engine. Meaning you literally just get a block and a head. Nothing else. By the time you do all your accessories, fueling, exhaust, clutch etc.. and get it to where he has his engine in the video you're gonna be knocking on $20k's door....

thanks this helps me with what I need for my build, did you buy most of the parts oem from your dealership parts department?

    • @IGDesigns

I bought most online. I only went to the dealership when I needed something by quick. Dealership markup is way too high

Yup, adds up quick. I broke two bolts in pretty critical areas and after that I bought all new hardware.
One decent solution is to head to the junk yard and get some OEM bolts and just clean them up. I've got some bags I hold onto.
