I'm a a Rogers Dyna fan also. Mine is fifty years old and can hold its own against all the pricey boutique snares. Having stated that, while not a DW fan, their snares drums are nice. The difference for my ears is the DW seems to emphasise the sound of the snares, while the Dyna let's the shell sound come through. With you on the internal tone control as well.

After high school, I bought a used Rogers kit with a 5x14 Dynasonic. It was an awesome snare. But, I did't know how good of a snare it was until I got rid of it and started playing other snares. I didn't like the lug spring buzz of Ludwig snares. A recording tech asked what that the source of a rattle when I was recording one of my Ludwig LMs (black beauty). We went as far as to disassemble the snare only to find it was the lug springs. We went as far as putting shrink tubing over the lug springs. It certainly kllled the rattle but totally changed the sonic properties of the drum for the worse. The Dynasonic snares (and Rogers beaver-tail drums) do not have a lug springs. The beaver-tail lugs have a vinyl insert that keeps the the lug nut in place when no lug was in it. He has since used Dynasonics for recordings needing an unmuffled snare. Then, over the years I yearned for a Dynasonic. One day I saw a pristine one come up on eBay and got it. I later found a 6.5" in the same condition. Never wanted another COB snare since. CHEERS!

I give the nod to the Dynasonic. Best sound overall. But the DW is a worthy competitor. I give the Dyna a 9/10. The DW gets a 7/10. (I have never given a 10/10) lol

I like how the DW has more of a what I call the "Alex Van Halen rim pop" that I just love. I used to play a Ludwig LM 402 for that reason....maybe a bit because of John Bonham as well. I now fully enjoy the True Sonic. Great video!!!

Just picked up a mid to late 60s Dyna sonic near Mint Condition and I purchased a DW true sonic both drums side to side tuned exactly the same (with drum meter ) with the same new heads. I find a DW has a little more sustain or brightness
if I use a gel on top of both drums there’s not too much difference. The reason I picked up the DW was I use drums on gigs every week and I would not take a vintage Rogers out.
    I enjoy your videos.

Thank you for your comments. In fact, although I am an endorsed player, I often use one of my Dynasonic snare drums for local work and private jam sessions. While the DW is an excellent drum, it still typifies the DW experience. That being…weight. Try hey are the heaviest drums I’ve found and when I have to carry myself, they take a bit more effort.
So, I opt for a Dynasonic. Your observations are “spot on”.
      Thanks again!!

Just a small clarification: The screw(s) at the end of the snare bridge are used to determine snare tension, while the throw-off adjustment is used to determine how much pressure the snares exert upon the bottom head.
The "ideal" setup of a Dynasonic is to have the snare wires tensioned so that they resonate freely but are not slack, and the throw-off adjusted so that when engaged the snare wires will just "kiss" the bottom / resonant head. This should achieve maximum snare response without choking the drum.

Great comparison on these two drums, I didn't know anything about the DW, but I do have the 14x6.5 wood Dyna-sonic. The one argument you made against the DW about not having an internal tone control would likely be considered a mute point by most of us, as practically everyone uses moongels, even small pieces of them to accomplish the same effect as internal tone control.
I would have liked to have heard you add close mics as well as having the room mics for a better understanding of the whole the drums really sounds. Or perhaps even an overhead mic directly above your head to get a truer evaluation of the drum sounds. Nice job on the demo!

I had the pleasure of recording with a 1963 Dyna Sonic (with a 4-digit serial#), and it was a fine, fine musical instrument… but, to my ears just now, the DW sounded deeper and fuller. By the way, it’s also a pleasure to hear a demo that doesn’t involve just whacking the drum and playing a simple backbeat!

    • @hdwarren8928
      @hdwarren8928 2 роки тому +1

Thank you, Ned. They are both fine instruments. The difference to me is the weight and complexity of the DW Truesonic snare drum. These are common differences between DW and other snare drums.
Look at my intro to the DW Pi snare drums. These are a real departure from that which you’d expect from this fine company.
      Cheers,

Great video and great demonstration, I’m a big fan of both Rogers and DW. I’ve been researching a lot lately about both of these particular snare drums in order to decide which one I want to purchase and one key feature I came across about the Vintage Dynasonic ( may not apply to the new wooden re-issue) is that they DID NOT cut snare beds in the bottom of the shell. This is something that I can now hear in some video demonstrations. You’ll hear more of a snare -off sound when you first approach the head with a light snare roll. I know it’s a very critical thought but when you’re recording, every little detail matters and it’s what is making me steer towards DW’s version.

I’ve been playing Rogers “DYNA SONICS” since 1970 when I got my first dyna Sonic and I believe that “slotted screw”
sticking out of the end of the frame does nothing more thanTension the snare wires in the frame! It has nothing to do it with how the snares will hit the bottom head that screw governs or “ adjusts the “horizontal tension” of the individual wires within the frame that’s all it does! The knob on the throw off adjust the pressure of the entire snare frame against the bottom head or snare side head at least that’s the way I’ve always worked mine! There’s two types of snare adjustments on the Dyna Sonic....a “horizontal tensioning” adjustment (slotted screw sticking out of the frame) And the knob at the top of the throw off that adjusts the “vertical tension” of the snares against the bottom head in other words the pressure that the frame and snares will exert on the bottom head.

      Neal Sausen
      Hello Neal,
Thanks for taking the time to provide your theory on the best ways to tune a Rogers Dynasonic snare drum.
The interesting thing about drums and drummers is that there are always bound to be alternate ways of accomplishing something to get a better result. Like you, I’ve been playing the Dynasonic as one of my preferred snare drums for many years. Now, within the library that you see in my Drum Studio, there are 14 different Dynasonic snare drums. While the calibration might be different, I use the same formula to tune each one of them. That absolutely includes the use of every option available to me on these fantastic drums. The screw that comes out under the head side of the throw off system plays a very strong part in my achieving the sound I am seeking.
Might I mention, my particular “sound” is rather “high and dry”. I achieve that sound without ever using anything at all on any of my top heads.
It’s in the tuning and in the chosen heads for each drum. That’s my secret and I’ll be speaking about that subject in the coming weeks. In fact, the third element to that equation, is the choice of sticks to match the head and provided tuning option. In the case of the Rogers Dynasonic, I use everything provided to me as part of the bridge tuning system.
Thank you, again - and - please stay in touch -

Herb Warren : Hello Herb,: NEAL SAUSEN here thank you for your lovely comment in response to my comment. I don’t know that my way is the best, I don’t know that at all :
Probably isn’t but it works for me and has worked for me all these years! I like a real crisp response / resonant sound out of my Dyna sonics or indeed any snare drum no matter what make it is but I like myRogers Dyna Sonic to sound like “ taking a fine lead crystal glass and smashing it against a marble wall” So I tension the snare wires within the frame just enough so that they resonate fully I do this before I even attach the frame to the snare drum. Also I am basing my approach on the official Rogers owners manual that came with my veryFirst Dyna Sonic back in 1970.
This was still the Cleveland Ohio/Grossman Music (actually by 1970 this would’ve been a CBS made Rogers! This was a five line drum but for all intents and purposes it was pretty identical to a pre-CBS model)! made Dyna Sonic. The manual which I still have to this day states that the snare wires are Already pre tensioned at the factory and if the owner adjusts that slotted screw at all it should be no more than 1/4 turn in either direction. Very interesting! anyway everybody’s tuning or “tensioning” of a snare drum as Buddy Rich used to call it is a matter of personal taste. And compared to the “over engineered” over produced Snare drums of today the Dyna sonic is quite a “simple Drum”
I think on this we can all agree! anyway thank you for your response will talk to you soon keep swinging....NEAL SAUSEN

@@HerbWarrenDrums uh... Herb that's not a "theory" that's facts. Theory is you supposing the screw somehow is meant to align the snares. By design, you are meant to align the entire rail at the throw end, so that the rail will fall off diagonally toward the butt plate and down away from the reso head. You can plainly see this mechanism work from the snare side as you use the throw. This alignment also ensures the snares are centered on the reso head. The screw controls the tension of the snare wires, (a tiny amount to be sure), while the throw adjustment governs how hard the snares contact the reso head. You can align the snares differently to get other sounds, but personally I'd consider that a modification capacity, not a design feature.

The Rogers has more crack than pop and ring in your demo, so I attribute that to the essential ingredient, dampening. Out of the box, the Rogers has flexibility and control. The DW perhaps meets that challenge in a different way, using the bridge for snare mounting and tuning, and providing the position switch allows for rapid (live) switching that the Rogers doesn’t possess. In making that difference, omitting the intrusive damper, subject to wear and tear, it allows the shell to move more air, and for some that’s their preferred dynamic parameter. Great demo, I’m not in the market to buy either, and seeing the what and how of these mighty instruments is something I’ll reflect on when setting up my snares.

Thanks for your thoughts and THANK YOU FOR LAMENTING THE INTERNAL MUFFLER! The Rogers' Dyna-Sonic and Power-Tone and the Ludwig Supra-Phonic (the best of all three) had them and, with a simple twist, you could dial in the sound you were looking for, even during a song. Now, with my DW True-Sonic and Performance Series snares, I have to take plastic rings, weighted leather strips, or a wad of "chewing gum" on and off. I know that DW wants their drums to freely sing by leaving the shells untouched and solid. But, would a simple internal muffler perceptively degrade that singing, particularly on a metal shell snare drum? I trying to screw up my courage to install the one from my old Power-Tone on my new True-Sonic. Thanks again.

don't waste time on this dynasonic rip-off drum i mean it does look great but if the pupose of a drum is sound you'll like this drum till you need to throw it off..not just this drum but the entire dw snare line has had a real throw off issue for at least 30 years that im aware of..see it's like this, if you need the snare on the tighter side as i do then try to throw off that dw (take your pick of them) it won't drop the snares low enough the end result is snare noises bc the snares are still too close to the head even if thrown off..not sure why they didnt correct that issue w this drum but i played one and surer than crappola..same damned problem..back 30 years ago i contacted dw by phone i spoke to the president of the co. he told me it was my issue but nothing to do w the dw snare..well i told him yeah i thought you might say that but i had a couple of engineer friends who worked in r and d for evans AND noble and cooley both said that if you play with the correct tension for pure articulation then try to throw it off the snares do not drop far enough his answer well, this is the first time iv heard this..i said well then that doesn't mean you don't have a badly engineered throw it only means your clientele isnt in the NEED of throwing a drum on and off on any of their gigs.. i was trying to be helpful but here we all are 30 plus years later and what do i see? a rogers blatant rip-off and yet another hack job throw off that doesn't fully release the snares verdict on the dw snare? JUNK ill also bank rogers takes dw to court on this i see the tacked-on unneeded double adjustment screws and a but plate that doesnt look to be a bad idea but that rail is identical in fact eerily identical to the rogers rail just another reason for me to dislike dw for overcharging for junk no real world drummer could actually use bc if my snares arent fully thrown off id get fired after a few gigs for that..dw should have taken my complaint seriously but i guess retooling wasnt going to be worth it..but man, are they wrong this is exactly why i use a 1966 dyna and a 78 lud super sensitive ..both of those throw off completely even if you over tighten the snares (no i don't do THAT) but i don't like slop in my snares when thrown off and the only way it does fully throw is if you have a decent amount of audible snare slop when engaged and rattle when disengaged..boat anchor crap

My heart is with The Rogers but DW has done an excellent job and I thought it sounded great. I have two Rogers Dynasonics COB, 5x14 and 6.5x14 and I never use the internal muffler so it's a non issue for me. I will say if I was choosing between a Rogers Dynasonic from the "new" Rogers or the DW True Sonic I'd pick the DW mainly because the DW is made in the USA while the new Rogers drum is made in Taiwan. At the end of the day, for a drum that could be put on the stand and played all night through no matter what the music, I always wind up preferring a Ludwig 402 Supraphonic. it just seems to always "feel right".

@@mackabeats Unfortunately, I'm not. if you call Big Bang who I believe are the exclusive distributors for Rogers, you can ask for yourself. The wood Dynasonic shell comes in from Taiwan and is finished in California. When the kits start to come through, they will be completely done in Taiwan, no finishing at all in USA. I don't know where the brass shell Dynasonics are going to be made. The new Rogers is owned by a Taiwanese company. I'm not knocking the quality. I've played one of the new wood Dynasonics and they are excellent. But for me a former great American drum company now being owned by a foreign company and making the drums in that country just doesn't feel right for me.

The reason drum companies stopped installing the internal muffler is because ham-fisted (Rock?) drummers were overtightening the things and choking the drum sound, then complaining that their drums sounded awful.
They are meant to just barely touch the underside of the batter head to be effective.
That's why, at about the same time, drum accessory manufacturers saw an opportunity and started marketing the clip-on external mufflers, which I find annoying, as they often move when playing, and sometimes get in the way, but at least they ride with the head to a certain extent, which the internal ones don't.
Drummers also started using Gaffer's tape (Duct) to muffle their drums, which kills way too much tone and volume.
I don't buy new drums at all. The old vintage stuff is better and less costly in most cases, and just plain looks good (the old style Art Deco lugs, mainly).

The benefits of a COB snare is it's versatile: You can tune it low or high in pitch and a COB snare will sound good. I have a maple Sonor. It sounds good lower in pitch, but not so great when tuned high. I have a Premier steel snare drum. It sounds great tuned high. I don't know what snare placement does. I have used Ludwig super sensitive snares, but I don't like them. IMHO
OH... What are the SNARE BEDS like on these drums? My Maple Sonor has no snare bed. The Premier has a pretty deep snare bed. Maybe 1/8"!

I have a Rogers Dynasonic snare drum: 5 x 14" COB circa 1970 it is in fantastic shape really a well made instrument but I have to say they are rather tricky to tune properly..my example has a narrow 'sweet spot' but when set up properly it is a great drum. And I do wish drum manufacturers would put internal mufflers on drums again..I get around that by using small pieces of duct tape on batter heads if needed to control excessive 'ring' and that works fine but internal mufflers are just handier. I think DW has done a great job with their version of the COB 'Dynasonic' concept that drum sounds really good.

      thomas moje Hi Thomas,
The Dynasonic can be tricky to tune but that also depends on the batter head you use.
Same for any non muffler snare drum.
I do not use anything under or over my snare drums and they all sound perfect. In fact, today, a fellow drummer here, in Las Vegas, is bringing a couple of snare drums over to learn to tune them.
Anyway, if you’re interested, try some of the following with your Dynasonic and see how it sounds:
      1) Remo Fiberskyn Powerstroke 3 will give you a perfect, powerful vintage sound with no after ring
      2) Evans UV1 will give you a sharp crack, very alive but with no after ring, even without any muffler
      3) Remo Controlled Sound X will give you a lively, hot crack with no after ring
Do you tune your heads exact even all around?
Do you tune your snare side head, really tight
Of course, there are other things to do that will enhance a snare and give you the perfect sound you are looking for.
By the way, do you happen to subscribe to my UA-cam channel?
All I talk about in every video is drums and cymbals. I see it as a way to help my fellow drummers get the most out of their instruments in a simple, fun and direct way. Talking friend to friend.
Try those heads and let me know what you think.
Leave the tape off of the batter heads. You deaden with no option to revise, if needed.
      Finally....WEAR A MASK!
      Cheers my friend,

@@HerbWarrenDrums Hi Herb I think I finally found head combinations that work really well with my 5 x 14" COB Dynasonic: snare side resonant head Remo hazy Ambassador, batter head Evans '56 Calftone (similar to Remo Fiberskyn heads). Resonant side head tuned more or less to the sound of the shell when tapped with a stick, and the batter head 'medium tight' about a half-step or so below the resonant head. Snare wire adjustment screw just to 'snug', and the throw-off adjusted so that the snare frame is just 'kissing' the resonant head. I brought that snare drum along with my Rogers kit to a recent drum festival/clinic and had opportunity to compare it with several other Dynasonics brought by other drummers, and it sounded great I had many compliments on it. Thank you for your comparison of the Dyna-Sonic & True Sonic. Personally when I saw DW come out with their own version of a Dyna-Sonic I was pretty upset about it. Yes, they made some modifications to avoid patent infringement, but at the end of the day the concept is the same. I got my 1st Dyna in 1974 when I was 15 years old and didn't pay attention to the proper way to set it up. But, I still thought it was awesome. After taking it on the road & going through a set of strands every couple of weeks I ended up selling it because in 1977 the strands were hard to find and Google didn't exist! LOL! Fast forward to around 2010. I found a Dyna at a Sam Ash music that someone had just brought in and traded for whatever. The manager sold it to me for $150. About the same price they went for in 1974. I knew there were things that needed correcting on it, but I was able to find everything very easily. Including information on the proper set up of a Dyna. If I had known then what I know now I would have never sold my original one. When properly set up their sound is like no other! Especially the wooden ones. I now have several including a 1964 14' x 10' Dyna-Sonic Parade Snare that is the pride of my rig. When Rogers recently came back with the remakes of their original Dynas I was thrilled to hear it. Especially building the 14" x 6 1/2" again. That's my next goal is to have one of those in my collection. Many people don't really want to take the time to truly learn & understand their instrument. Like me when I was a younger drummer. But, after nearly 50 years of drumming I can tell you right up front that I wouldn't play anything else! Dyna-Sonics RULE IMO!

      Hello Pete,
Your story is inspirational. No question about it. In fact, there are well over 225 snare drums. If that number, 16 are Dynasonic snares. While I enjoy the COBs, I try to use the silver sparkle 14”x6.5” as often as I can.
In addition, I have 5 more COBs and one 5”x14” wood that I’m going to sell, sooner or later.
If you need any help, sign up as a FB friend and UA-cam follower, and I’d happy to offer my help or do a special video for you.
      Cheers,

I never use the internal muffler, so it wouldn't matter to me. I'd'e pick the Dynasonic because I had one in high school and wish I never sold it. Also, all my gear is vintage. For some reason, I never became interested in modern drums. I do think it's cool that DW is making its version.

I own a Rogers dynasonic 14x6.5 wood snare. DW can copy the snare system of the dynasonic, which was the cuttin edge technology of its day, but there is one thing that they have to think about. The dynasonic system was the cherry on top. The maple/poplar shell with re-ring and a 45 deg bearing edge is a better sounding snare than anything DW has. That's the first thing. The dynasonic system allows you to have the same snare sound throughout the dynamic range. Hit it hard, or very soft, it is the same snare sensitivity. I am biased. I am not impressed by anything DW has done.I am partial to wood snares, I've gotten rid of all my metal snares. I own a Pearl Reference and a Sakae Evolved Maple kit. I put these up against anytihng DW makes. As for snare, the dynasonic has quickly become my favourite snare. It's sensitivity is amazing. I can play at any level and it produces that amazing sound. My other snares are suprisingly inexpensive. A Gretsch Mark Shulman 13x6.5 and a Tama SLP G-Maple 14x7. These two are very reasonably priced, yet amazing snares. I've had most of the "holy grail" snares too, especially the Luds. Back in the day, when both companies were in their glory days, we often a Ludwig or Rogers or Gretsch guys. I was a Rogers guy...lol. these days, there are legitimate contenders out there, its a great time to be a consumer!

Rogers, definitely the Rogers! A fifty plus year old design and now one of the largest drum builders on the planet is TRYING to copy it. What was the old saying about the greatest form of flattery? Something about being copied maybe?

That Rogers Drum is not 60 years old
Looks to be late 1960s or early 70s
The serial number will tell the story.

      Anthony Amodeo
      Hello Anthony,
Thank you for your comment. In fact, if you subtract the 2960s from the 2020s, you’ll find that the number 60 is what comes up. As a collector of Dynasonic snares, I can tell you, with all confidence, the drum in this video is within 60 years vintage.
Either way, it’s a matter of how one sees it when comparing to the newer, somewhat copy, DW version.
      All the best,
      HD

@@HerbWarrenDrums 5 line Dynasonics were not yet manufactured 60 years ago.
Rogers went from 7 line to 5 lines in 1967 after the CBS purchase.
If you tell me the serial number I can tell you exactly when your snare was made.
Also if the drum was in the range of being 60 years old it would have B&B lugs a different strainer and a different frame as well as tall boy hoops.
that is a late 60s to early 70s drum

Ok first he didn't totally disengage the snares on either drum the DW is tremendous that being said I wonder if they will make a wood model as Rogers dyna sonic was I owned 2 of them And regret selling them But The DW Model is far superior I'm hoping they make it a wood model and I believe for extra Money they'll install an internal adjustable muffler if so desired.

    • @HerbWarrenDrums
      @HerbWarrenDrums  4 роки тому

Hello and thank you for your comments.
In fact, DW did make a wood model True-Sonic snare drum.
      They made a 14”x5” and a 14”x6.5” in wood.
If you will have a look at the previous review, you’ll find that I did a comparison between the Rogers Dynasonic and the DW TrueSonic just prior to the “blind” comparison of the metal ones. Have a look, you might enjoy it.
Finally, there are hundreds of snare drums in that room so we do, sometimes, get a bit of buzz feedback. We’re so used to it that we often forget that it’s there.

I HAVE PLAYED AND STILL DO WITH THE BEST IN THE MUSIC WORLD AND HAVE 12 SETS OF THE BEST DRUMS EVER BUILT SO I SHOULD KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT?............FOR ME , IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE MUSIC YOUR PLAYING AND THE ROOM YOUR IN WHEN IT COMES TO SNARE DRUMS THE SNARE DRUM IS EVERYTHING AND THE CYMBALS HOWEVER WE COME TO ROGERS AND DW ? AND THE QUESTION WAS ASKED WHAT IS A BETTER DRUM ...BUT??? THE QUESTION SHOULD BE WHAT HAS THE BETTER SOUND? FOR ME IT HAS TO BE ROGERS.AND WY? ROGERS HAS A SUSTAINED IN THE SHELL DW DOES NOT? TO FLAT.ROGERS HAS A BETTER RIM HIT BRIGHT AND LOUD AND SOMEWHAT SUSTAINED....DW HAS NOT ROGERS IS MOST ATTRACTIVE DW IS NOT ROGERS CLOCK STRAINER IS A WORK OF ART DW IS NOT......THIS IS HOW I SEE IT, ALSO WE HAVE YAMAHA GRITSCH SLINGERLAND PEARL AND LUDWIG ALL TOP OF THE LINE DRUMS HOWEVER ROGERS HAS PROVED IT,S PLACE IN THE DRUM WORLD TO THIS DAY? AS FOR DW....LET ME SAY THIS GRITCH IS A BETTER SOUND THEN DW HOWEVER DW HAS A LOOK LIKE NO OTHER WORKS OF ART? AND IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHAT YOU LIKE AND HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE TO SPEND???????............SO FOR ME...ROGERS IS THE WINNER FOR BIG BAND AND JAZZ AND SWING
AS FOR ROCK DRUMMERS....THAT,S A WHOLE STORY WE STILL CAN'T UNDERSTAND...ANY DRUM WILL DO?????? OR A DRUM MACHINE? OR A BASEBALL BAT?..........HOWEVER .FOR TOP PROFESSIONALS IN MUSIC ROGERS IN THE MAN?

rogers dynasonic rip off..this thing is prob another dw boat akanchor that doesnt throw off completely, none of their snares do but in any event this looks very over-engineered but sadly i tried one and nope these dont throw off all the way either i use a 66 dynasonic wood and a 78 ludwig super sensitive..those drums work correctly dw is still in denial i see i called them on the phone some 30 years ago and told them about it they claimed it was "my problem" i laughed and said ya know? i might have believed that but i had an rd guy from noble and cooley and evans drum heads who agreed w me no he wasnt downing it so id buy yet ANOTHER snare from him he was also a friend who has invented over 100 ideas still in use today is also an engineer and like me he said "if you tension the drum to where it isnt sloppy its true the snares do NOT fully throw off.. apparently these suffer that same prob..hence? not a pros drum its ok if you never HAVE to throw it off but in my gigs i need that option to work correctly not just a little bit i mean do you want snare slop whn you throw a drum off? if you do? then, this is THEE drum for you..but def not for a pro with hand speed articulation chops and also needs a snare not to buzz when thrown off..sorry but yeah its pretty but useless for any real drummer doing gigs..its not like i didnt tell them about it i did but denial is apparently a very deep waterway..im surprised rogers hasn't sued them over this rip off i mean the concept is the same the rail itself is eerily the same it has one difference..it has two tension knobs..eh? so that was their patent work around? disgusting rip off from an EXTREMELY overrated drum co. there was a time very early on when dw had some great drums but that was when they first bought out the oaklawn company..the turret lugs were not orig to dw those were already in use by the co they bought out sadly dw changed a great working throw off and then they ran out of the keller shells went to jasper (shit imo) and now? so very over priced for a drum that doesnt even function correctly..at all ..verdict? another boat anchor

      Hello Dennis,
Thank you for taking the time to comment on a comparison that I presented, some time ago.
I try to respond to all reasonable comments, and so here’s my response to yours:
      1) I have over 200 snare drums in that studio, and sometimes we get ambient sounds that are unavoidable.
      2) For the past two or three months, we have been experimenting with different drum mic systems. I’m sorry you found the comparison sound on this one to not meet your standard. Perhaps if you tried listening with a different set of earphones or speakers, you’d see how clearly the difference in both drums comes out to be.
By the way, which is your preferred snare drum maker? Perhaps, if I have some by your favorite, I can provide a comparison with a sound to which you are more familiar.
      Stay safe and keep practicing.
      HD
