Rogers USA returns to the drum market with the re-release of the Dyna-Sonic snare drum. This instrument is a dead ringer for early wood Dyna-Sonics of 1960s - the same model preferred by Buddy Rich for years. It features a re-ringed wood shell, Bread & Butter lugs, a patented snare rail, and Clockface throw off. A vintage-styled Black Pearl wrap completes the look. Loose to tight, the Dyna-Sonic boasts a wide tuning range and incredible sensitivity thanks to a unique snare rail mechanism.
i take the sweater as a mr. rogers reference with the rogers snare. Sounds great...
neighbor.
I am 57 years and kept my Roger's double bass 5 tomtom drum set from when I was a teenager, I also have the original dyna sonic snare drum and a 8" maple Roger's snare .
Who needs toms with chops like that right there?
I have a mid-60's Rogers double-bass kit with a 5 x 14" COB Dynasonic snare. Had a wood-shell Dyna that I sold years ago (much to my regret). Now I have a chance to get another wood shell Dyna and these re-issue Dynas look and sound fantastic. Welcome back USA made Rogers!
As someone who doesn't really dig wooden drums (I always find myself playing my supraphonic), this is the only wood shell I find myself playing heaps.. super happy I bought one
Hope Sweetwater is aware how luck they are to Nick on board... He makes all the difference!
Important to note that the new Bread & Butter (B&B) lugs have the original look, but are not drawn brass as were the originals. This is a good thing, as the original B&Bs were highly prone to cracking and these new lugs do not have that problem. Also, the new Rogers Drums are made in the USA!
I have been waiting for this drum to come back! I love the old stuff, and when I saw that Rogers was making new snares I was really hoping that they would be as good as the originals. They definitely are. Thank you for showing them off, now I know I need one. :)
Awesome snare drum one of the most iconic
Lovely versatile sound. Great playing as usual.
Being a Buddy Rich fan, I bought a Rogers "Celebrity" white marine pearl kit with a 24" bass drum in 1970 and played it until 2016. It was an awesome kit and had a chrome Dynasonic 5X14 snare drum. Best snare I ever owned. Now I play a small DW kit and I can't believe that this tiny kit is louder than my Rogers kit ever was! And the DW snare is about as nice as the Dynasonic. BUT, I am SO GLAD that Rogers is finally back making quality drums, instead of just using the Rogers name on cheap junk, as was a few years back.
ROGER DE LO MEJOR DE LO MEJOR .......GRACIAS POR VOLVER......FELICITACIONES...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweet sounds! 😀🥁🎵
Dude you sound better on a snare, hi hat and kick than most drummers do with a full kit. Killin’ it ! Great demo.
I have an original COB DynaSonic - they’re awesome drums.
Another great job Nick!
I got to play the prototype @
the 2017 Chicago Custom/Vintage
show. Bill does an excellent job on
the shells!
Nice dampiner ability. I'm not a drummer but I love that capability. It sounds good! Great review!
I played one of these at a local drum shop, and plan to buy it next week. This thing sounds and plays INCREDIBLE. I owned a metal dyno ( and full kit ) for years. The snare was missing the frame, like most do. BUT, this wood model is in it's own league.
Bravo Nick!! And bellissimo snare!
I had one from 1967. It had the beavertail lugs. It was also black diamond pearl. It was 5" instead of 61/2". The thing I really loved was the grey speckeled (SP) interior. That mahogany stain looks good as well. Rogers drums were just amazing in terms of detail. Really classy. I've been playing Gretsch drums for years now, however I will buy one of these drums. The presenter knows why. The snare bed is the key to this drum and it's pretty confounding that nobody else used this idea except Rogers. These drums really sound terrific. I hope they eventually make full drum sets. If they do, they will be really pricey....they were the most expensive drums back then.
Nick is such a great drummer!
That is a cool drummer, you can sell anything Nick, thanks for the grooveness
This guy is an exceptional player.
All new snares should be made with internal muffling, like in the old models.
I have a late 60's Rogers Dynasonic Marching Snare Drum 14 X 10 Sweet sound with
Black Swamp snares on bottom.
I've got one white marine pearl made by Rogers Great snare
It's So Nice that Rogers kept the original concept of the reinforcing rings & Internal muffler for their Dyna-Sonic snare which most of the drums makers today have done away with due to cost. In the past the big 5 American Companies like Rogers, Gretsch & Ludwig, Slingerland & Premier, (I'm not sure about Camco & Sonar) At an extra cost would add 4 Spurs/Legs your Bass Drum instead of 2, And would install Internal mufflers on the top and bottom heads of the Toms and Bass Drums. It's nice to see quality workmanship and original quality ideas comeback into style again !
Quite possibly the best snare ever made.
Never thought I’d love a Rogers snare so much, but here I am 😂
Nice job man
What kick drum are you playing and with what heads? It sounds great.
You have certainly mastered the ghost note.
Cool video
I think if they want this to be a successful venture they need to do more than just what Rogers was doing in the 60s. I would love a full kit but they dont make them and what if i wanted natural gloss or piano black? I have been talking on the Rogers FB pages and it's like they don't realize there are people under 60 years old.
Would love to see the brass version of this too..
Nice job on the playing. Drum looks & sounds great. I did notice the the snare wires do not extend beyond the rims. Is that the same as original Dyna-Sonic? Thanks.
Remember on occasions, Buddy Rich replaced his Rogers snare, with a Fibes .
He did the same with some of his Slingerlands, except for the Radio King 1983-87.
From memory, I don’t recall him replacing any Ludwig snares, with a Fibes..
Correct me if I’m wrong.
The ironic part is Buddy used a super sensitive with Ludwig and Ludwig has long since discontinued making that snare.
So their best snare is no longer available.
Makes perfect sense,eh?
Wonder if they'll make kits again?
That drum sounds incredible. Fat crisp sound. Snare bed looks challenging though.
Hello, Blake! You are right, it is a great sounding snare. There is a reason it is a legend! In my experience, the snare mechanism on this actually makes it easier to work with than most other snares. Having the bar keeping the wires perfectly straight gives you a much wider range of snare adjustments to work with, without having to worry about choking out the drum. Thanks for your interest!

Manufactured in Taiwan, assembled by Bill and his team in the US. Think I'll stick with the vintage MIA versions.
Shells are USA made and finished by Bill Detamore of pork pie. Hardwear is not.
sweet sounding!\
Ur a great drummer
Do they come with Beavertail Lugs a we'll ?
Hoping they come out with a new chrome over brass Big R version!
The metal dynasonics were brass. Only the later crappy Island Music Dynas were steel.
Eric Estrada
NOB version!!!
Dynasonic You are correct. I was speaking of the Chrome over Brass Big R series in specific. My apologies. 🙏
I hope they come out with everything. My first kit was an older Rodger's kit. If I were to get a "new build, old specs." High end kit, it would be Rodger's Holiday pack of some sort.
How do they rate with with the Gretsch Brooklyn COB snares.
How do they stack up to Ludwig Black Beauties or Supras.
Even the Ludwig 100th Anniversary Buddy Rich Ludwig snare.
Interested in peoples views.
u kick ass man awesome
I like it.
Similar price to the Ludwig Black Beauty....which one ?
Just purchased...
Strainer seems super loose. It is able to be pushed towards the shell and it gives an odd snare buzz as if snares are loose but they’re not... contacted Rogers and a few Rogers forums I’m in, but it’s nothing like my COB dynasonic with powertone swivomatic strainer. Not sure if i need to buy a new throw off for a brand new drum!
do you ship to Sweden?
Hello! There may be some restrictions on shipping certain gear internationally, but we'd be glad to look into it for you. When you have a moment, please give us a call at (800) 222-4700 or email us at sales@sweetwater.com. Thank you for the message!
I really wish they’d reissue the COB version.
Hope they have the option to get the beaver-tail lugs with this eventually.
They had some on display at NAMM. They will be selling them very soon. Check out their Facebook page.
Dynasonic
Any plans for a NOB version?
I'd prefer the beaver-tails as well. Even though I know these new bread&butter lugs won't be cracking like the old ones did. My first set was a Rogers white lacquer Tower 3 pc with the cracking b&b's.
I’ve never had Rogers.
Are these as good as the vintage ?
This snare is my favorite on the market, above any and all
mike fields
👍🏿 Good to know.
@@roybeckerman9253 Its pricey Roy, but man it just sounds SO GOOD. Would love to use this in a studio setting especially
Proof again that the best drums were already made long ago.
I wonder how tight the bottom head is, compared to the batter head..
nice sounding snare. i can't believe i've never heard of roger's drums. when i heard the dyna sonic, its definitely that 50-60's sound you expect from the big bands, or buddy rich. high quality snare for sure. but should be for the price...900$?~
The dynas are nice, but I love the powertone. I had a 1964 steel shell, and a wood shell. Great drums. I miss them both. Lol
Nick seems comfy in that sweater
Not sure about the Rogers "come back". Definitely a great sounding snare though..
Very vintage and modern all at once.
Mr. D'Virgilio, I love your demos and your drumming. I just wanted to let you know that the device is called a damper, and it damps the drumhead. I used to make this same mistake. I had to retrain myself to stop using the wrong word. Remember to dampen is to wet, and to damp is to reduce vibration.
This may be the most civil, polite correction I've ever seen in UA-cam comments.
No doubt.
Dave McCall, I'm glad you interpreted my message as polite. That was my intention. I hope that he takes it that way, as well, if he reads it. Thanks.
I really do enjoy his demos. Sweetwater as a group has some of the best demos on UA-cam. I would like to see a video of Mr. D'Virgilio hosting a drum clinic, or even better a high quality video of him playing in a band context.
Check out Nick's band Spock's Beard. Good stuff!
Scott Uher, thanks, I will.
The hardware is made in Taiwan, but assembled in USA. If that sort of thing matters to you. You know, for $800 you'd think it was all domestic.
What drums have US made hardware?
MIODZIO!
I thought the Ludwig Trick Buddy Rich Anniversary snare sounded better.
1.6mm hoops? Rather have 2.3mm--sturdier, no?
To keep it original.
I was looking at that also. I'd replace those with DW True hoops or die cast hoops.
@@drumdoug8083 why?
Sturdier construction doesn't flex as much. I am not a fan of 1.6mm hoops, especially on a snare that expensive.
@@drumdoug8083 but it changes the sound. A high quality 1.6mm hoop can be great if its the sound you are after. I personally like 2.3mm hoops but some drums i have played with quality 1.6mm hoops work great.
Unfortunately, the new models cost way more than their vintage counterparts.
Uh, not actually (if you need an example in nice, playable condition...)!
I'm a Rogers fan, but I can't see this resurgence of the brand working out.
The only ones who really know Rogers are about to literally die out.
And I don't think new drummers care about Dynasonics or any of this.
Rogers could have worked 20 years ago when people were still collecting,
or maybe when the whole C&C/vintage aesthetic came about, but I think it's too late.
All the fuddy duddies will get the Dynasonics they couldn't afford when they were young, then that will be it.
As someone who does wanna see this venture succeed, I think you're right. They're betting really hard on Millennial/Gen X types who collect everything vintage to get into these, probably more than the people who are behind the brand's resurgence, realize.
They worked with some of the worlds utmost Rogers experts to develop this drum. I'll be first in line to buy one when they offer them in black with Beavertail lugs.
play one and then tell me what ya think. As a 50 year owner of a Dyna Sonic chrome over brass let me tell you no snare I have ever tried sounded near as good or offered the ability to change character as easily.
I wouldn’t say that’s the case man. I’m 23, I’ve been playing music in several bands for about 6 years. I love that Rogers is back. I wasn’t around for vintage drums the first time, but that doesn’t stop me from collecting them. I wasn’t around for classic cars or classic music, but I love those too. You don’t have to experience something as new to appreciate it as vintage, ESPECIALLY as a musician. Think forward my dude. If shit like Mapex keeps selling, Rogers should do fine.
Fuddy Duddies? I resemble that remark!
It sounds really good but it will touch my Dyna-sonic....sorry!!! Not the same
