You never see slingers in any roman movie/show battles but they were pretty common, thousands and thousands of sling stones were found on 1 tiny roman battleground. Imagine these kids practicing every day until adults. They'd be snipers. Now imagine thousands of them all behind a giant wall of roman shields. What could stand up to that?

Its the same reason you dont see alot of thrusting weapons with battle extras (spears or thrusting rapiers) because controlling the set safety is difficult so you see dudes slashing with rapiers or whole ancient armies and everyone has a sword. Sucks the authenticity out. Same for not seeing slingers in movies. Just use archers, viewers wont know the diff.

The Greeks and romans often used lead ammunition that were cast by the hundreds. some were even inscribed with words like “CATCH!” And are found to this day. Oh god it’s wonderful to know our ancestors had a good sense of humor, even on the battlefield.

This takes me back to travelling in Morocco and meeting similar young shepherd boys. They’d be far from home, away for a couple of days, sheltering in herders huts, food in a satchel and as happy as could be. They were all crack shots with thrown or slinged stones. The stones were used to steer the herd, no sheepdog needed. Such a joyous sound as they chattered and laughed as they went along. ❤

Slings were actually used alongside bows until the advent of the firearm, with similar effectiveness, in fact the sling could even kill an armored man with a well placed shot. So yes it is a very powerful weapon (they typically use it against wolves or to guide their flock)

Verses from the Quran about Jesus peace be upon him:
[4:171] O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs.
[4:172] Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah , nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself all together.
[5:17] They have certainly disbelieved who say that Allah is the Christ , the son of Mary. Say, “Then who could prevent Allah at all if He had intended to destroy the Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?” And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and Allah is over all things competent.
3:84] Say, “We have believed in Allah and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims [submitting] to Him.”
[5:75] The Messiah, son of Mary, was not but a messenger; [other] messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear to them the signs; then look how they are deluded.
[5:78] Cursed were those who disbelieved among the Children of Israel by the tongue of David and of Jesus, the son of Mary. That was because they disobeyed and [habitually] transgressed.
Jesus is a human being. How can a man with a date of birth be God? How can God come down in human form so that would no longer make him God since the definition of God is to be Supreme and no One is compared to and is the King of all kings and none can match. He has been created like you and me have. Created. A created being cannot be The Creator. He will be in shock as to why you called him God or the son of God when instead he is the Messenger of Allah. He was a human who ate and drank and went to the bathroom. On top of that Christianity also claims for him to be a Jew? How can he be Jewish? How can he be God or the son of God if he did all of that? And he literally came out of a womb so how can he be called the son of God or God?He is the beloved Messenger of Allah may peace be upon Jesus

I'd like to know how they make their slings... I noticed that they use much longer lengths than I'm familiar with... get some torque out of the resulting centrifugal force, I'm sure... like a lot of amateur slingers, I've had trouble keeping the shot in the pouch... I will say that once I used an old automobile lug nut with a sling I put together, but half the length of the one these kids were using... anyway, I gave it a good underhand spin and let fly... that dang thing hit a stop sign about thirty - forty feet away with a big 'Spa-Dangggg' and put a dent in it... It makes you think what that would have done to person if I had better technique and a longer length of cord... I found that tapered 1 oz lead fishing weights are about the best ammo, in my experience...

Great to see kids who are genuinely content with life and smiling and happy...also not with their faces buried in a cell phone and not speaking to each other. Quite unlike the kids over here in the materialistic West who are never ever happy with what they've got and who are selfish conceited arrogant and rude

What a bunch of moronic comments. People use different words to describe the same thing. I am certain that everyone knows what a rubber band is. I am equally certain that the boys made no mistake when speaking in their language. All you can say is "that's not a slingshot". Well your slingshot is just a rubber powered sling. Now let's talk about football, or is it soccer? Just appreciate the boys doing their jobs, and using their skills.

With side slinging as in this video everyone standing around could get hit if the rock falls out of the pouch. I usually sling vertically with everyone standing to my right so it is virtually impossible to injure someone. I saw a friend of mine get hit in the head by a side slinger. Dropped him right now but he survived and bled quite a bit. I'll never forget the sound the rock made bouncing off his skull.

I was in Afghanistan in 2007-2008. I watched a shepherd boy use a sling to get the attention of a few sheep who were falling behind. He was at the base of the mountain and the sheep were walking and eating along the slope. They were at lest 30 feet above him . He would pick up a pebble and hit the sheep in the hip to get its attention. They were every accurate with these slings and knew exactly how much velocity to use. He didn’t want to hurt the sheep but if a predator came he could use it to kill.
