Local people live in Phuket Town, while the tourist areas are considered the suburbs with beautiful beaches. These areas are filled with hotels and resorts. However, for the locals, these places are primarily for work, not leisure, as the cost of living there is unaffordable for most. Many Thais who visit Phuket feel like they are traveling abroad due to the high expenses. For many, it’s a one-time experience, as the same cost could also cover trips to Tokyo or Seoul, which Thai people often prefer over Phuket more than that Thailand got many many beach town why have to bother Phuket when the business seem to aim mostly for foreigner. Moreover, you won’t typically see Thai tourists lounging on the beach during the day or lying in the sun, as it’s not common sense for Thais to risk tanning their skin coulor its high effort to have lighter skin. Instead, they usually come out in the evening when it’s cooler and no sun. The beaches frequented by locals are mainly concentrated on the east coast, closer to Phuket Town, where most people actually live. During the tsunami, most of the casualties were foreign tourists on those beautiful beaches as the east coast didn’t experience the large waves that hit the west coast of the island.
