I'm a 'Merican, half Scots, half Irish ancestry going back on US shores as far as 1745, very proud of both sides of my coin. All of this music is what runs in my blood.
I lived in Dublin for 1 year and a half, i was 26. Now i am 31 and i swear you One day i Will come back to bring my hearth That i dropped somewhere in a pub. Love you all !!
No music like the VB Irish. Great tenfold over l'mpast 75 and still the fiddle ,my dad , a great man from CO. Wexford taught me to play at around 4yrs old love it!!!!
Great tunes. I'm a 5th generation Jimmy and was taught guitar/mandolin by grand and great grandfather/dad. Know each and every one of these great songs note for note and spent many a weekend in the kitchen bangin them out with family. Beauty and grace to ole Ireland.
Excellent selection ! When I hear a Jug of punch, Finnegan's Wake, or Brennan on the Moor, my heart flutters ! And I don't even have a single drop of Irish blood in my veins.
..... my ancestors are from Ireland... So many times, people ask me... "So are you Irish?" because I do look ? different? 'ruddy' skin, and strawberry blonde hair ...with clear blue eyes. Ya. And, I'm proud of it, eh?!?!!
I love this album. I do have an Irish bloodline, and when hearing how hard they had it, I wish I could have helped them......but that was a long time ago.
Ahh how I miss sailing the Isles. Not that there was much of this in the pubs, but the spirit was there. Nothing more soothing then to settle down after days in rough sea, to happy murmuring and friendly faces always welcoming a stranger and especially a sailor.
My wife was born on March 17, 1957, a day dedicated to St. Patrick, but unfortunately ... she does not drink alcohol, and then in honor of Saint Patrick, I have to sacrifice myself for her as well, drinking twice as much beer.
Ah you poor fellow. I hope you carry out the task unstintingly and without complaint. You're a martyr for the cause and I hope you'll be adequately rewarded.!!! 🤑
Oh, Ireland, the Irish and their music. I've only visited Ireland once, it was the wish of my husband, who was very ill and could hardly travel. I can say, it was a lifechanging experience. The very first day we were invited to a meeting of different Irish musicians. It was magically. The rest of our stay was also great, but the music did it. Ever since, when I hear Irish music, I long to be there. It's a homesickness, that never dies.❤❤ .
My great grandpa- Hugh Purdy- from northern Dublin and his wife, my great grandma ----- from London, England-- came to NJ - USA - in the early 1900's-- his business - St. John's Cathedral-- The Silk Factories and more. My brother - guitar- sax- piano- harmonica- singing -- - he plays many of these Irish songs and many others--- Poppy and Nanny (Nanny's parents were from Cork)-

Ich liebe Irland und seine traurigen Balladen!
Ich liebe auch irische Volkslieder, die nicht alle traurig sind, manche sind ziemlich entzückend und sehr temperamentvoll, sogar mit genug Alkohol gewürzt
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling
"Michael, they have taken you away
For you stole Trevelyan's corn
So the young might see the morn
Now a prison ship lies waiting in the bay"
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young man calling
"Nothing matters, Mary, when you're free
Against the famine and the crown
I rebelled, they cut me down
Now you must raise our child with dignity"
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry
By a lonely harbour wall
She watched the last star falling
As that prison ship sailed out against the sky
For she lived in hope and pray
For her love in Botany Bay
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing we had dreams and songs to sing
It's so lonely 'round the fields of Athenry
