The wood finish is nice but the ends should have been end grain wood to take it to the professional level.

If this is your first time doing this you're a pro my friend, the hammer consolidated the cement so good that I didn't see a single bubble that's impressive. GREAT JOB !!!!!!!!!!!

It’s my first time trying this type of concrete work But I do house foundations for a living so I’ve poured a lot of concrete in the last 16 years so I have an idea what needs to be done. Thanks for the compliment and for watching

Wow that is awesome! Have you had any cracks in the top so far?

Thank you. No cracking all summer. I have it covered for the winter right now so will see in spring if the cold did anything. I think it will be fine.

looks great! not sure if you said what brand fire glass you used. i just got some from amazon as well, but it's a darker blue. I find the glass doesn't allow as much light through as I anticipated. i was expecting all the glass to sort of 'light up' while the flame is on but it doesn't, not even directly on top of the flame. I'm not sure if it's bc the blue is too dark or if fire glass is even supposed to light up the way I'm expecting.
But yours look like it is completely lighting up, almost to the endge. Do you find you need the flame on high to get that effect?

Thanks for the compliment. I never paid much attention to the glass looking lit up to be honest. I’m not sure if the fire itself would make that effect. I’m gunna say the string lights I have hanging on my pergola might have a lot to do with it. The light from them is probably reflecting off the glass. Also the lighter colour might be more reflective?

@@bruedtv ahh overhead lights..that makees sense. when the 'firepit' is the only source of light, as in my case, you can see any color. the glass looks black. that is, unless you crank the flame to full blast, but that's not practical for my setup.
i've kind of become obssessed with this idea of all the glass glowing. I've even considered poking some holes in the bottom of the tray and putting an led strip below to achieve the effect 😅

I'm about to drop a newly fabbed table onto my deck. How many BTUs is your insert? How's the heat source at about 35* F?

    • @bruedtv

The insert is max 65k btu. Puts out pretty good heat. I haven’t used it when it’s that cold. We’re at -20C and snow right now so I have it covered for winter
