Very informative video!
Thank you! 👍
The contact patch on those 265's appears that way, because they're designed for that edge of the tread to contact only under high g loads while turning.
The rears being 285's, now that is because you're tucking a big tire onto a little wheel.
Yep! Exactly
Good job well said, 9inch rim tire range min 235 ideal is 245 or 255 mm.
Thanks!👍
Great video just got new tires for my challenger today 255 I went for 275 and they said no I wouldn’t enjoy the ride
Nice, which brand model did you get?
I will be interested to see what your impressions of the new setup are!!
I have the appointement tomorrow.
Thanks for this video now i ain't be mad at them when they tell me forget about 275 😅😅😅 i will stick with my 255
255 is a good size !
Hey Mike i know this video is about tire size but would you happen to know if i'll have a problem going with a 9.5 Daytona SRT wheel with 275/40/20 tires all the way around? I have a 2016 R/T Plus.
That is a great option!
@@HemiMike Thanks man and for your response
Thanks 😊
Wouldn’t it make a difference during a turn the roll of the car will go on the outside of the tire and wouldn’t you have to air down a bit to get the full contact patch of the tire ?
Yes but not enought to use the full patch in straitt line. If you lower the psi too much, then you will ''Cup'' your tire.
thats why u let air out on drag! normal air u wont contact. looks cool. tube it out 20x15 light tub.
I have a big question I was wondering if a 285/35/zr20 pirrelli p zero tires will fit on a 2017 Dodge Challenger rt ???
They do. But the minimum requirement is a 9.5'' wide tire like with the SRT wheels.
It will be interesting to see if you get full contact with the 255's.
I will be looking for your update on this thank you.
It will, getting them installed this week...will chime in after...thanks for watching!

Hemi Mike I have been for awhile, that's how I saw yor vblog.
Thank you!
Every tire has a slight 'roll' as the main surface transitions to the sidewall, there is no completely 'square' tire where the edge is 90 degrees to the main contact tread of the tire.
What is the widest a 20x8 wheel can be on the front and the rear?
255 wide
i tried to put 275 in the rear on my stock rims from 2016 rt shaker, but they told me that it might rub the fender liner inside, so it would be better to modify suspension first, before putting bigger rims. Where they right or wrong?
They were Wrong. Sorry to hear that. They Will fit.
@@HemiMike what about safety? i think on my rims recommended max size is 255 at least from the chart. would 20x10 on rear require any suspension tweaks?
Well if you have the 9'' rims the certify max size is 275
What's up Hemi mike, nice video, i have an idea of what u talking about, but my question is iam having plan to get a 20×9 rims with a good offset for a 245-45-20 in the front or a 255-45-20...and 20×10 rims for a 275-35-20 in the back, this is my question do this simply change will mess some numbers in my car computer, i say simply change because i know that the majority of guys got much bigger tires and rims that what i like to have for my car.
Thanks in advance.
So 245/45 is stock height at 28.6". 255/45 will be taller at 29" so when the speedo says 60mph...you will going at 60.8mph instead.
And if you change the rear to 275/35 (27.6") with the 255/45 then the speedo at 60mph you will be doing 58.8mph in reality.
Thanks Hemi mike, i think this shouldn't be a big deal, I think i will go forward with this, thanks for your knowledge detail.
You must have some negative camber in the rear to have that much edge not touching the road. Check the wear in the inside. It would be worm down more than the outside. Most Challengers have a bit of negative camber, some more than others.
My Super Track pack has -1.5 in the rears and -0.75 front
Hey Mike! I got the same BBS on my R/T. I was told that it is 8.5” and wouldn’t fit 275’s. So you did put some 285’s on it… Is it really 9? would fit 275s? Thank you.
Mine are the Mopar lightweight option rims not the BBS. They are 9" and will fit a 275
@@HemiMike Yes Sr, I’m pretty sure that those are made by BBS for Dodge.
I have an SRT 392 with 9.5" rims. I'm going with the 275s in the front and 305s on the rear. Trying to decide between the Michelin P4s or the Continentals. I need tires that hook because these Pirellis are great for cornering but don't hook worth a damn.
Yeah, 500hp will do that to a tire!
I was thinking about keeping the 245s on the front and adding 305s on the back for a beefy look but I’m not sure
On new wider rims?
Yes you will need a 10” rim
New wider rear rims on the safe side.
Good review man good to know ! Fuck
Thanks!👍
I bought 275/40/20 for my rear and 245/45/20 for my front, good choice?
Which rims do you have?
Are you running spacers on the rear . they seem sticking farther out
No dont have spacers.
have a 6sp rt too. was going to try just 275s all around on the 9 inch but now i think i will have to get some 10 inch rims at all corners. what was dodge thinking with 245? i actually theorize that it's to keep people from pushing such a heavy car too far.
As a car manufacturer Dodge had to make a cost effective choice first, then they needed to accommodate 1 tire size to fit 2 or 3 Size wheels...some have 8'', 9'' and I believe even 7.5'' width on the Challengers/Chargers. So a 245/45R20 is cheap money and fits all.
makes sense. like your vids. first saw your snow drift and kept watching.
Thanks! Hope to get some summer drifts footage this summer...whats your name?
post my name..no sir
but k should suffice
Nice to meet you K! 👍
I'm still a long way from needing new tires on my Scat Pack, but I would like to go with something a little bit wider. I was thinking of 255/45R20 to give a little more sidewall height, but have no idea if I'll have tire rubbing issues with a slightly taller tire. So, my question is 255/45R20 or 255/40R20 ?
Hi Keith, well if you want a taller tire then 255/45 is the choice and won't rub. The 255/40 is shorter than stock size. Both are good options and I running now with the combination of both of them. 255/40 fronts and 255/55 rears which gives a nice rake muscle car look.
@@HemiMike, I would love too see a picture or video from your channel with that combination!

255 50 20 is almost on perfect
Mine came with a 20×8 rim. And I want a wider look. Would a 255 45 r20 look good with my setup ? I want front and back
You would get more of a taller look then wider with it. Althoug I had the 255/45 in the back and absolutly.love the look of them. They fit very nicely in the back. I did have 255/40 in the front. Here is a link to see it. Take a look at the Non Stripe look. ua-cam.com/video/nFkoTXBbWx8/v-deo.html
@@HemiMike thanks I rather a more wider look. So the 255 40 20 will give it a wider look ?
Yes. In the video the stripe car results had 255/40 Tires all around.
What’s your psi? Try dropping it to 20 and let us know how it looks and feels? 275 is best all around imo.
mcj john 20 psi is too low for a street tire. It doesn't feel good either.

275 all around RT classic . Looks great ..
What tire size would you recommend for a 20x9 +15 offset wheel in front? Same car same year.
What size do youhave in the back?
Hemi Mike I’m running 305s in the back with a different offset. 20x10 +20 offset. I’m just looking for new front tires. 245s are a tad bit stretched on a 9” wide wheel.
Your perfect size would be 255/40R20
Hemi Mike do you think 255 45 r20 would work up front?
Not if you have 305/35r20 in the back. Its going to look weird bacause you will have a taller tire in front than the back one.
Im getting 305s for the back and 275s for the front
That will look awesome! Which wheels will you put them on?
Uhhh you gotta consider the amount of air in your tires as well.
Right, I did not mentioned it but I tested it Based on 32psi. Ive lowered it to 28psi but without any difference. Lower than that, it would CUP the tires. Thanks
Mike! I bought four 20x9.5 wheels, but I want to know what tire you recommend for the front. my car is a 2016 dodge charger SE
@hemimike
What sizw tires do you have in the back?
I would like to use 275/40/20 all around but i dont know , can you help me ?
Yes, that is the best setup! 275/40R20
275/40/20 all around or 245/45/20 in the front, and 275/40/20 in the rear , but all my wheels are 20x9.5 in charger SE v6 2016 , have a problem??
I got 8 in stock wheels
Can I go 255 45 20 on my Charger?
My set up right now is 245 45 20 all around
Yes You can. Ultimately on a 8"rim the 245/45 is the best setup. With 255/45 it will ride a 1/4 of an inch higher with a bigger side wall, a beefier look for sure. It will feel less crisp on turn in but the ride will be smoother. I Doubt it will improve grip level on regular tire pressure but perhaps a bit at the drag strip if you lower the temps and have a soft sidewall tire. Your tire choice is the most important one, not 245 or 255 in your case.
I have a 2017 sxt that I currently have stock 18. I wanna put 20 rims on with the widest tire I can. What is the best set up that I can go with.
Nice. That will depends on the width of our rims...do you know which rims.
@@HemiMike 20 x 9.5

Thank you 🙏🏾
I just installed 315/35r20 on 10.5 with 18 offset no spacer no rub
Great. What are you running in the front tho?

Well they may come with 18 inches
Does the 285 rub anywhere?

Heheee...that was a crazy scene.
Omg true... "well that's not what I'm calling it, that's the way it is..." 🤣
Yes.......
@2:20 you talked about the 1cm section of tire on the outside edge that isn't getting contact with the road because 265 is too wide for the rim. Going to 255 is your remedy.
Do you think there is also another 1cm section on the inside edge of the tire too? There probably is. This would mean a 245 size would be best for 9in rim.
Nice write up! No because of the small negative camber the inside is section is fully in contact. I did go the 255 Michelin PSS after that video. Still running them 255/40R20 front and 255/45R20 Rears...a have more videos on this subject. Thanks for watching!
I'm having a new setup installed on my Scat Pack Challenger this week.
The fact that they put 245s on an almost 500Hp car is just not safe.
I'm getting 9.5 inch wheel on the front and 11 inch on the rear.
Going with 275 and 305 Mickey Thompson Street Comp tires.
I'm hoping it helps a lot.
This was my biggest complaint with the car and the first high priority mod I'm doing to the car.
That sounds and makes more sense! Good setup 👍
This vehicle requires 35 psi in all 4 tires from factory. Put 33 psi in the front tires and 30 psi in the rear. Reset your tpms system at those pressures that way the light turns off and your set. Should get your 0-60 0.3-0.5 faster.
The best 0 to 60 I had was at 29psi... I hit a 4.9sec
