- Episode 26 of the Golf GTI restoration project. Time to get the Front panel fitted, try the wings and bonnet on, weld & dress the rear panel plus finish a few pieces inside. It's been a busy couple of day's!

Inspirational ! Watching this is making me wish I had held into all the tin tops I had back in the day. I also parted with a rare well maintained low mileage 92’ mint cabriolet GTI that I bought at a steal in 2014 and let go in 2015 at a low price because I didn’t have a garage and couldn’t bear to see it exposed to elements.
My tin tops suffered from the sills and valances and arches, and the dreaded clutch plate not to mention the damn petrol tanks. These issues cropped up as early as the 90’’s , I had my fair share of issues to deal with and it wasn’t easy on a student budget. DIY was the way to go !

When ever you get spooked by how much is left to do, always try to focus on what you’ve done so far and think back to how bad it was. My own current 1977 MK1 Golf GTI project has just reached 300 hours and from experience and keeping diaries of previous projects I estimate I’ve still got 500 to go if I decide to paint it myself.
Cheers bud. Yes I do go back and look through photo's some times to remind me of how much has been done! I feel I am really getting close to the shell being done now.

Another good video and glad that your enthusiasm for the project has had a boost. It’s that which will keep you going through the tedious bits (which are very important). Maybe you could do more of the ‘tedious’ bits off camera so you can move along more quickly.
It’s looking fantastic, Dan. Please think carefully before slamming it to the ground on air. It’s such an iconic car and in my mind, should be as close to original as possible, barring an epic paint job, of course!

Man i am loving living vicariously through you. Brings me back 10 years to when i was making death traps out of innocent fiestas. Definately recognise that feeling when suddenly things start coming together after you getting tired of the graft.

Superb Dan! I'm a Mk 2 Scirocco owner, very similar in the gene pool. I can't weld, but you make it look simple!
Love the build, already a fan of VW Heritage, just wish they would do more Mk2 Scirocco body panels.
