    To confirm - is IS just the one train that shuttles up and down all day, sometimes with only less than 5 minutes turnaround, sometimes longer. The crossover at North Lllanrwst may possibly be used by freight trains coming to/from where the lines goes further at Blaenau Ffestiniog (i think it's a nuclear power station, isn't it?)

    Geoff - thanks for this video. It was great to see a wee bit of the Conway Valley Line as I missed this out on my "End of Line" adventure earlier this year due to the wash out. I had to use the bus and because of this I did not 'really' complete the end of line challenge by train. I was over for a family wedding from New Zealand and took myself off for my adventure of going to the end of each line on all the Welsh train lines and doing 15 Welsh heritage steam journey's. I managed to complete the loop by using the Welsh Highland Railway as a form of rail seeing as the 1960's Beeching cuts kinda destroys traveling all the way around by modern rail. It was an amazing two weeks of fun with some seriously close train connections, early starts and late arrivals. Thank goodness for my spreadsheet!

    Beautifull region, I notice there was snow in Roman Bridge but none of that at Llanrwst. When I stayed at Llanrwst some years ago for two weeks I arrived in a heatwave, which was very weird over there as it was only the middle of may. Then we obviously had some rain a few days, and I left in the show. It was all seasons in just a few days, loved it.

    Hi geoff,
    Me and my family once visited this particular little station (Roman Bridge) for a week many years ago, as the old station building behind you once use to be a holiday cottage.
    We even saw a passenger get off and had to help the young man get in touch with his friend picking him up as there was no phone signal. Only a pay phone in the cottage.

    Lllanrwst North is the original Victorian station but the other Llanrwst station is modern. British Rail built it 1989 for that year's Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod returned to Lllanrwst in 2019 but some the events had to be cancelled because of the bad weather. Other interesting stations on the line are Betws-y-Coed which was built for the Victorian tourist trade - the platform is far longer than the modern trains. The station building has been restored and there are a cafe and some shops. There is a railway museum with a miniature railway in the old goods yard. Baenau Ffestiniog station is also modern and remarkably bleak- it is effectively a joint station with the Ffestiniog Railway.

Then with the next one not being till 16:57 with no luch time train and only 3,296 passengers using it. That's the problem with Wales' rural rail system (especially on weekends), as the old Ronnie Barker joke goes "So, if you're planning on going anywhere, from anywhere, you'll just have to go via somewhere else" ;) Perhaps the F&WHR should take over Conwy Valley Line operations & convert it to narrowgauge? lol Hoping that TfW will extend the lines to interconnect with other services in the near future (North, Mid & South Wales) - some examples (especially along existing or dissused former goods lines could be: Blanau Ffestiniog-Porthmadog, with a tourist branch to the lake at Trawsfynydd: Aberdare-Cwmgratch-Neath via Hirwaun & Rhigos on the old coal lines of the Aberdare & Neath Vale lines: Nant y Moel-Tondu line: Abercynon-Trelewis-Nelson-Ystrad Mynach link line: these are just a few examples that would provide alternative provision for otherwise bad or patchy bus & taxi services elsewhere, along with alleviating the problems of road congestion (there are many more, however for me, these come to mind the most)

    Another entertaining video Geoff, even if it didn't really go as planned. You seem to be managing to pronounce the "LL" sound nowadays, so "Loch" should be a piece of cake when you get back up north of the border.😁
    Poor use of the P.I.S. If they're not going to provide a *Help point button* they could, at least, put the cancellation on the P.I.S. or provide tannoy announcements. It doesn't *follow* that there's a tannoy but they usually go hand-in-hand with the dot matrix.
    The passenger numbers might be higher if they collected fares; not much time in this case, but do-able.
    There's some very pretty station architecture at these stations, nice to see it being maintained, even the old benches. It looks so much better than today's equivalent.
    A bit disappointing to see all the sniping about pronunciation and speaking Welsh, especially when only 21% of the *Welsh* speak the language.
    Great production, as usual, great fun to watch as few of us can get to these stations easily.
    Cheers for now,
    Dougie.

    Being the clever young buck I was, I challenged a harassed customer service representative from GWR, saying, "I am not sure why these diesel trains are affected by a power cut."

      @@johnmitchell364 hello. The bridge south of fairy glen, the bad one on the bed coming from B.F thst has a history about it too. I can't remember but it was something about a builder and his daughter , named it after her I think.its a shame the spa in trefiw closed, but the wollen mill is worth a visit. (I'm from Bangor, but my grandmother was from the conwy valley)

    Geoff, what do you think about restoring the pre-Beeching rail lines?. Then you could really see Cornwall, come to Fowey. Less cars, more basic trains.

    I'm not a Welsh speaker, but I think you should say the place as 'Thlaanroost'. Without saying it as a 'Th' - if that helps.
    Actually surprised that they had snow in early November. Last time I was in North Wales was 3 years ago, and it was the usual low cloud, light rain, etc. But not freezing cold.

    BIZARRE. . . two railway stations 90 seconds apart! An interesting video in any case, but the question is WHY have two stations that close to each other? In Queensland, Australia, there are two stations, one on each side of a major river, that are a TEN MINUTE travel time. [ Home Hill and Ayr, on the Brisbane to Cairns rail line] and of interest is the fact that BOTH of those stations are FLAG STOPS, known in Britain as request stops. However, in general, the train will stop at one or both. BUT a seat booking must be made at least 24 hours ahead of travel.

    Why is the request stop in Llanwrst the one with two platforms (i.e. the big station), when the proper, all trains station only has one platform?

    • @YDysgwrAraf
      @YDysgwrAraf 5 років тому

      The single platform station is nearer the centre of the town.

    • @mastertrams
      @mastertrams 5 років тому

      @@YDysgwrAraf Yes, but why does the main station have ONE platform, when the request stop had TWO platforms. Surely the station nearest town should have more platforms so it can cope with more people?
