That's what I said man. How the fuck did Warframe not win that. A game that started out pure shit, and worked and evolved into a game that is just a blast to play years and years later. Hell the game is still changing constantly. And Destiny 2 being nominated was just down right laughable to me.
This 'expansion' is a joke. This is not an expansion, this is a content patch with a pricetag. I'm a new fan to the Destiny universe and I'm hoping that a swift kick up the arse, combined with a reality check will finally make Bungie aware that they're headed further and further away from the post-Taken King game quality. Tyrodin the post taken king era was simply luck, after numerous patches, events, expansions, etc the game was finally "good" it wasn't exactly skill or anything, just bungie throwing a bunch of shit at the wall hoping something sticks, rise of iron proved this by being mediocre.
As much as I want to be a kiss-ass I have realised that Bungie is going in a very bad direction and I am hoping for a Taken King- sized expansion to save the day. This game, as much as I hate to say it, is going downhill.
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but that's what most loyal players have been hoping since D1 and now the sequel is even worse. Do yourself a favor and just quit before you waste any more money in hope that the next DLC will fix everything, and when it disappoints again to just hope for the next one.
I uninstalled Destiny 2 and went to Warframe. I saw a gun I wanted in the warframe market, bought the blue print, farmed the ingredients, and boom! crafted it and now enjoying it. No loot box slot machine.
That was basically me. I was hardcore on Destiny during my first warframe experience, and what got me into the game was the sybaris. The moment I saw that gun I was in love.
That clip of the old Bungie made me really sad. That's who Bungie used to be. Amazing game developers who set the standard and stage for first person shooters. Now Bungie has been replaced by Activision lackeys who are borderline IRS agents. Most if not all of the original Bungie members who made Halo what it was have left. Ecap D1 was actually great by year 2 and through year 3...D2 is an obvious cash grab in every aspect and that is why our hardcore crowd is all pissed...all content in this game is locked behind pay walls now and they wonder why we are all pissed and quitting
I only got to play D1 about 2 years in and it was just as vapid and boring to me as this release. In both cases I constantly feel like I am playing an MMO by myself.
As a day 1 year 1 D1 player, year 2 was absolute shit. I didn't even finish the Taken King before I dropped the game in the garbage. Bungie was screwing over the players even then, but few people wanted to see it.
Maybe there is actual progress to be had with consumer conscience in the video game industry. Personally I am still skeptical as I am sure that SkillUp is much more analytical and self-aware than other Destiny (or nearly any AAA-title) players and therefore would rather correct his own attitude than engaging in the pathologically aggressive form of ignorance that Im sure everybody around here has experienced. Maybe Destiny 3 will be a flop if its ever released, but honestly people will instead just buy the next premium scam that had enough cash sunk into its marketing. Because apparently, looks, trends and eloquent slogans are what people want to base their consuming decisions on and not quality, depth or originality. That attitude is why it could even come to this and it is the katalyst for what AAA-games wil be in the future.
I feel sorry for the artists just because they create all these cool things then the story team and Activision like to split the story to crap and dont try hard enough.

A lore rant for a moment if I might: I think it's becoming more and more clear, that the bulk of the storytelling in Destiny 1, via the lore, was, if not outright created by Joseph Staten, overseen by him. Given that the Dreadnought was to appear in Destiny 1 vanilla then its safe to assume that a large portion of the lore explaining the hive, and Oryx, was also created prior to the reboot. That important because there's a noticeable drop in quality of the Rise of Iron Lore. It goes from large mind-blowing concepts to small interpersonal interactions. There's also a lot of inconsistencies within the RoI lore, I always attributed this to the quick turn around on the project. Now it seems that whoever is in charge of writing is either incompetent, or they just don't care. Look at Brother Vance, A guy who was this Blind Soothsayer, who like Eris seems to have lost his Ghost and his eyesight. He now served as an emissary to the Queen for Osiris, and Hosted the Trials of Osiris. Now we get someone who is, what the adoring fan from oblivion, and a lore entry that reads so painfully like it’s a last minute retcon. And you know where you find that lore entry? On the Machina Dei 4… As if to COMPLETELY miss the point of having a Strangers Rifle like weapon return to Destiny. There’s only 2 technically 3 places that model has ever been used. The Stranger Rifle and No Time To Explain, (the Fate of All Fools was never released.) They don’t use this opportunity to expand on that lore, no they just use it to retcon Bother Vance’s status as a warlock. This is the textbook definition of missing the point. The quality of the lore integration into Destiny has been slipping ever further into; Karen-Only-3-Million-Storm-Troopers-Traviss’s character assassination of Dr. Catherine Halsey from Halo, levels of bad. This is like Shaxx calling us Young Wolf and then Lord Saladin treating us like we’ve never seen one another before. This is like Osiris somehow reading the Book of Sorrow, but not knowing who we are. It ludicrously bad writing being perpetrated by someone who doesn’t understand the universe or doesn’t care.
You know what the craziest/worst part of this is? This game has an honest to God writing staff. I think it's like 6 people. 6 people are paid probably decent wages to write B-movie level dialogue (we're not so different you and I) and to forget and mess up their own lore. IMO this is why gaming costs are blowing up, incompetent hiring bloat.

Same here. Over 1000 hours in Destiny 1, and I haven't even cleared the Leviathan raid more than once or gone flawless in Trails of the Nine. Kept investing in Destiny 1 because the game kept getting better - Post April Update meta was the highlight of my Destiny PVP experience, Age of Triumph the highlight of PVE. Destiny 2 is nothing more than a hallowed out shell, stuffed with the greed of corporate scumbags trying to make a quick cash grab. It makes me feel bad for investing money in the first game.
Same for me. Year one player. Maxed light every time. All shaders and all emblems .. and then they released Destiny 2 and i didnt get to keep any of it. My grind was pointless. But still i stayed with this game .. i completed the max light. All raids and events etc .. in Destiny 2. Then this dlc was released.. and thats fucking it im done. This game should have been soo good. Shame on you Bungie shame on you.

We got D1 after Dark Below. We loved it even with some problems. Met some amazing guardians one who became my best friend. And we could play with another friend even though he didnt have the DLC he still had end game to do. Strikes, Crucible and Nightfalls etc
Although it pains me to say this, I cant help but agree. I was not a year 1 destiny player. Heck, I wasn’t even year 2. I bought the collection in January. But I played it. And played it. I became obsessed with the game. After maxing out 2 characters and moving on to my third, I still wasn’t bored and was loving it. There was just something that kept me coming back. And when I learned about destiny 2 and how I could share the experience of a new destiny with everyone, I was overjoyed. But now, sitting here, I find it painful to even get on. Sometimes, if none of my friends are playing, I won’t even get on. The game that had once inspired me and gave an escape to another world is now nothing more than a bland money pit that just keeps digging itself into a deeper hole. I’ve tried to hang on. Out of all my friends, I’m the only one who still played because I had hope. Hope in a developer that had delivered me the greatest gaming experience in my life, with memories that I will cherish forever. Hope that this game could rise from the ashes and blow everyone away. And everyone was blown away. No one could believe it when bungie handed us back our hope, beaten and betrayed with a $20 price tag and the title, “The Curse of Osiris”.

Kenzor I stopped after the Oryx DLC then gave Destiny 2 a chance and saw how they playing us like EA has played everyone (before Battlefield 2 came out) a few weeks after release the true data for the EXP came out really disappointed me then to see fucking EA did the same bloody thing with their loot boxes I want to beat the shit out of the developers and thank the animators and Artists
I only bought Destiny one when they came up with the complete collection, and i planned on doing the same thing with 2, but now i'm even doubting if it will be worth it then. Only time will tell.

For me the take away is don't follow developers, just buy good games. I'm not going to stop buying EA games because of Battlefront II, or RockStar because of the monitorisation of GTA V. I'll wait, read the reviews, and then only buy the best games from who ever made them. If half a year down the track the developer has fixed their game I'll even reconsider a game a had already passed on. The thing is, don't be a fanboy. Loyalty is for your friends, not busnesses.
Rockstar gives you the best single player city sandbox game in existence, as well as an extremely fun multiplayer version of it with constant updates and an array of new content all of which is achievable in game for free, and you're still not happy. Gaming community in a nutshell.
There is truth in what you say, but even some reviews can be extremely biased. It's hard to tell whether a game will be good or bad at the start, I just go play what interests me, and usually I never regret it. Of course, people need to do research on the games their interested in as well, or they'll end up getting scammed. Since, I remember when Destiny 2 came out and the reviews were flooding out, it was all but praise for the game mostly. Then a few weeks later, people began regretting it, and the bashing began. I guess it's just best to wait it out for games in general, unless it's something you generally like.
I think people need to remember that the majority of the lead developers at bungie who made the halo series no longer work at bungie. The Talent behind one of the greatest shooters ever made hasn't been at bungie for a quite awhile now. This isn't a company thats worth your time now.
And that is the conundrum faced by every gaming studio, sooner or later. Software developers write in unique styles. They put together programs with hundreds of branches, that have to execute in real time. The people at Bungie now are still learning what the previous group of programmers did. Give 'em a few more years, and who knows? Maybe they can figure out the arcane ways of the past ... or, they could be so befuddled, that they never fully learn the system. Right now, I call this a maintenance release off of Destiny 1. Be happy the program does not crash or go into an infinite loop. I have seen worse disasters in my experience. I'm not saying that you or anyone else should be patient. But, Skillup is not a coder. Those who do not understand software do not realize that this is all part of the PROCESS.
These aren’t coding issues at all, though. Having any knowledge of coding isn’t necessary or even helpful for contextualizing these issues. The problem is in the principles and priorities that were taken during development - loot boxes took a higher priority than basic, quality game design.
Play warframe I wouldn't worry about the warframe devs going greedy cuz a year ago when animal allies came out they added a rolling system for money and they saw that they it was being used to much so they took it out made the allies farmable and gave refunds removing the gambling machine within 3 days and then said the reason they removed this slot machine that was making them a lot of money was that and I quote "They didn't want to make money That Way!" Go out of business, hopefully. Bungie have missed out on all of their targets so far set by Activision to make a well-received game (Bungie were due million dollar bonuse for well rated games). A $500m investment for a game that is basically a $1m effort. I can imagine handlers at Activision will be seething because a bad game, with bad sales and a dwindlng playerbase that does not want to spend more on microtransactions does not bode well with such a large investment. CoDWW2 and Overwatch sit quite comfortably. Destiny is a huge fuckup and may as well be bleedng money considering how much has been invested. Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy can't design a game for shit; they took the complaints about D1's systems the wrong way and gave us boring worthless shit like the kinetic, energy, heavy weapons system, shitty movement, fixed perks and 4v4 only PvP. ME Chung is in charge of the most anti-social, social game because she can't get over the past. And Christine Thompson writes stories that are so 'on the nose' and filled with exposition over character development that the stories are not compelling or interesting at all. Destiny 1 at least had a wealth of background lore to support the lack of story. D2 has nothing. A lot of Bungie's project leads are hacks. Nu-Bungie is completely diffrerent from the Bungie of old. The staff I mentioned, and more, rode on the goodwill created by people like Joe Staten and Marty O'Donnell.

Elder Maxson - until the next expansion like taken king where it’s another part of the original game and people buy back in, then that has its own season pass dlc which is terrible and people get locked out and upset again until another expansion you have to pay full price game for, but hey they include everything you already purchased so that makes it worth it. People like the first game will go back because of these big expansions and even buy the season passes to them, essentially destiny 1 sold you 1 game separated into 3 with 3 season passes added to them, all by pulling apart 1 game and 1 good season pass, and it worked people bought it so why wouldn’t they do it again and add loot boxes to make more, hell if people were willing to accept those practices of course they would think it’s ok to continue to push the limits.
Option A: $170 for a $35 game made by a multi million AAA team. Option B: $0 for a $170 game made by an A (up and coming) team. Operator? Ordis Wonders... What are you thinking about?
tyrannosaurus_x It’s not a bad game, and the general mindless killing is very fun and it does keep you hooked. Only when you hit “end-game” of which there isn’t any in Warframe does it get rather boring and the true problems with the game shine.
I've been playing Warframe since August and loving it. It blows D2 out of the water in terms of customization in the weapon and mod system. The game does have a grind but the time investment makes you feel powerful, one important aspect that D2 definitely is lacking. Bungie doesn't want us to feel powerful. Orb generation is lower, ability refresh is slower, guns are for the most part dull and boring. I pre-purchased the DLC with the season pass and I haven't bothered playing CoO. There's no point, unfortunately.
I wouldn't agree they are "solely" responsible, the devs and publishers that keep quite willfully testing the limits of what amount of BS they can get away with have their fair share of blame in my view. But yes the relentless fanboys do have their blame also.

100.00% I payed for this DLC, and bought the BLOOD AND WINE from THE WITCHER. The Bungie DLC is a jocke compare to that DLC. The people will leave desriny, them to get back is much harder than repaire D2.

I'm so happy I passed on getting D2. I spent a lot of time on D1 but got tired of reskinned content, unusable nerfed exotics, and various other issues. I moved on to Elder Scrolls Online and haven't looked back. Would love to see you do a review video about ESO btw.
This game just hits me with multiple levels of disappointment, some opinion and some fact. It goes without saying that I will not be waiting in suspense like I did for three years in D1 for all intensive purposes was a complete and good game. How can they honestly expect us to wait 6 years to get good? Then on top of that take away everything we had from Destiny 1 and make us earn it all again.That's a masters degree for god's sake. This serial murder of our content and then held ransom behind pay walls gets really old fast and if we have not learned now we certainly will be learning in the future that this is the form Bungie is using to press and shape their games going forward. I wish people would stop comparing these 2. I play Warframe a lot, & I love the game, but these are 2 different games. Simply put, Warframe is about being so overpowered that the only way to fail is be a scrub or get 1- shot due to shitty enemy scaling. Destiny is about fighting being on, more or less, equal ground with “space gods”. Not really the same thing as Warframe’s trash mobs you dispose of by the thousands. So at the end of the day it’s just preference. Do you prefer a simple FPS with shitty RNG, enemy AI & story? Play Destiny. If you prefer a complex 3rd person shooter with shitty RNG, enemy AI & enemy scaling, play Warframe.
I can agree with that somewhat. I think the RNG seems good because there are so many ways to get what you want & there really arent that many "bad" items in the game. I have bad luck in Warframe too, but the trade system helps a lot.

Alan Z capital isnt an issue its the fact that theyre trying to make sooo much money with microtransactions that theyre designing the game to specifically exploit the microtransaction system and thus leaving the players left with, not a game, but a trip to the casino. Where you spend real money at a chance for some randomly generated things to pop up on your screen. Games arent about gaming anymore. Its about making money.
Unfortunately some of us purchased the deluxe version. Haven't played the expansion yet and if I hadn't already purchased it I wouldn't be buying it now but you live and you learn.

Dec 2002, our company was in a statistics pile that proved most dot coms didn’t make it. I was looking forward to some time off and my buddy gifts me an Xbox. I had not put any time into video games since the arcade in high school. The first game we played… Halo: Combat Evolved in split screen co-op. I was amazed (at the time) how far games had come. We spent 6 hours that first night working through the campaign. These days, we are separated by several time zones and we have other things in life that take priority, but about twice a month we catch up online and play a game where we both can work towards a few achievements. We’re not hardcore gamers. But we also know when a game is not giving us anything worth our time. We’ve moved on from D2 simply because it’s uninteresting. Osiris was the nail in the coffin. I bought the gold version so am stuck, but I literally finished Osiris just to check the box. Cliche story and trite dialogue. Spot on review.

Unfortunately bungee died a long time ago I think. The second Destiny just proves it for me :-( Halo was one of the things that got me into gaming seriously. It was unlike anything I've ever played before and had an amazing storyline. Destiny 2 was just a sad and pathetic shell of what could have been

Just wanna point out that EA and Activision are publishers, not developers. Bungie, Blizzard, DICE, are developers. But yes, I agree with you; games just aren't good anymore, or at least that is true with AAA titles and IPs. They need to realize that if they'd just put effort into the game and make it good, it'll practically roll in the dough.
Bungie isn‘t Bungie anymore... Many good people left the company because they already knew whats coming. Activi$ion ripped everything appart and Bungie is still sleeping with Activi$ion in one bed. I had over 1.000 hrs in Destiny 1. In Destiny 2, after the donut dlc Osiris, close to 90 and I am done with this game too. Sorry Bungie... Time to move one and support people who believe in their playerbase.

As much as I agree with you, I see a lot of people saying "i spent x amount of hours on D1" you cant say that. You can only calculate the amount of hours u played within a period of time i.e i played 100 hours in 2 month of D1s release compared to me playing only 20 hours in 2 months of D2s release. Of course you can say what you want to say. He's clearly giving a comparison between his D1 and D2 hours played. Im assuming (generalising) he started playing The Taken King until D2's release?, that's 2 years for him to accumulate 1,000 hours, for him to accumulate 1,000 hours in D2 is very hard within 4 months, yes its doable but it puts a harsher time frame on D2. Destiny’s world, systems, mechanics and overall design is intoxicating. Warframe often feels far too difficult to get into without an obvious example of what is so fun or great about it, but when I load up Destiny I get a completely different feel. I feel overwhelmed, but in a good way. I want to learn what to do, I want to grind, I want to further my progression meaningfully so that I can continue to earn guns that will shake up my play style and give me further reason to do harder content. Destiny is everything I’ve wanted from World of Warcraft for a long time. It is fun and entrapping myself into the grind in a way that I can’t enjoy in Warframe. Warframe is a game. Destiny is an experience.

I don't quite think so. He explains that a 'good' business would offer a meal and service for free just to satisfy their upset customer. Destiny has countless upset customers at this point but, instead of offering an incentive for them to forgive the company and continue playing, it's more cost-effective to let them go. The players who 'give up' are just factored into the numbers, just like how Wall-Mart will write shoplifting into their calculations. Once the money trades hands, it's done, no need to keep the customer entertained. The upset customers will only come back when they think that the company has changed and Bungie, much like many other companies these days, will do everything they can to try and market their next big thing as something that needs buying.

When the dark below landed we hated it and Bungie knew yet here we are again curse of osiris is nothing better than what we got then. Visually great but that's all it is a feast for the eyes. They are learning nothing from the feedback instead they are just going on the path of greed which will end badly for them now that the majority of the community has had enough of the bullshit. D1 we all saw the potential, d2 was supposed to see it unleashed but instead what we have is shallow , mediocre and heart breaking if I'm honest. Exotics act the exact same - if not worse - than their legendary counterparts, multiplayer is still unappealing to the casual player, and the game still relies on forced-DLC. I played D1 for 34 days in total, and held faith that Bungie could only improve. I was wrong and will never buy another game by this horrible company again.

viperdemonz jenkins it has a very good story haha. And it says in the description that it is a grind shooter. But the grinding and trading makes fun. And it is f2p so the grind is ok. Destiny cost 60€+ and it is even more unfunny grind. If you pay 60€ in warframe, you have to grind absolutely nothing. Maybe 5% is left.

New player here in 2022 watching all Skill Up's old Destiny 2 videos because he speaks highly of the game these days. The game is so good now. Bungie turned the ship around with the help of folks like Skill Up providing thoughtful constructive criticism.

Hi Skill up... well here I am three months later... after what, after I watched your Warframe vid and gave it a try. I struggled at first but was enticed back to Warframe a couple times... Now 330 hours in, I went back to D2 for the DLC... and it IS SHIIIIITT!!! Absolutely boring AF!! My mates are kinda pissed at me, and give me shit for the 200 beans I've dropped on WF so far, but you know what??? IDC. Warframe keeps giving. Even if It doesnt look as good - My analogy is this... Destiny 2 is that really good looking girl that stirs your pants up something crazy, but after living with her for a couple months you start to... think lol. Warframe is the girl that might not look AS good, but is real pretty in her own right... and most important of all, you can ACTUALLY HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH HER. So, yep. Another convert. Little Light I failed worse add i bought the collectors edition which had the sessonb pass. I have been taken for a massive ride. I stopped playing a month ago to play some new games and I wanted this to feel really fresh. However I can't believe I came back for this. I think I finished it in 2 hours and some of that was in my vault since we got Tess's engrams wick. So quickly we leveled to 25 actually I though shit they must have really throttled us before.

Oh man, the memories. Remember "The Infinite Forest"? Remember "two primaries"? Remember "The farm"? Static rolls on legendary weapons? Horribly long ability cooldowns? 4v4 only? Damn, this game was such a huge disaster when it launched, but it's grown so much since. It only looks the same, but is in fact not even the same game anymore. Like, every decision Bungo made for D2, from the marketing, to the story and the sandbox was completely and utterly wrong. But looking at what the game was like in Y1 and comparing it to today (Season of the Seraph, less than 2 weeks away from Lightfall) I can't help but feel happy and proud of how my favorite -addiction - game of all time... yes I know, I love many a game franchise but none of them are or ever will be Destiny. That's just a fact... I'm just happy to see this game and franchise grow from what it initially released as to what it is today. Forsaken was the turning point, the big change Destiny 2 needed. But Shadowkeep was the real game changer, because it introduced seasons and champions.
If Halo was the nurtured first child of Bungie with Microsoft, then Destiny is the second child that happen when Mom decided to leave Dad because the douchebag next door has A grade dick game but nothing else. Bungie was fucked good by Activison, and that's their fault.

OnyX Renegade Wrong, the only people from Bungie that are at 343 are Frank O'Connor (who was more of a middleman between Bungie and Microsoft rather than someone who had creative control) and the guy who was the Halo 2 Multiplayer lead. There may be a few other guys here and there but it's nowhere near "a lot".
People see the name, the faces behind the name typically don't resonate as strongly, unless given an apt reason to do so. In this case it is apt, but it has simply flown over the hands of many for a sense of blind loyalty.

Biggs i disagree somewhat, the taken king was great in terms of detail, calcified frag black spindle and no time to explain mission, exotic sword missions, sniper pvp meta, the longest raid destiny has seen with the most fledged out antagonist and personally the grind was my fav part, the april update brought good changes to the grind for the community as a whole and the rise of iron continued this trend just on a smaller scale and we actually had real live events yes it had flaws and you cant please everyone but destiny 2 is just shallow in story lore activities rewards locations nothing about this game is better except art and music but destiny is a game not a movie
It was clear to me that destiny 2s purpose was to get more money. If they just wanted to make a good online game, they would have just realsesed more dlc for destiny 1, which is still the better game.
Splitting community with paid DLCs and locking them out of old content they initially had access to is a bad model though, but yeah, it still would've been better than this. At least people who bought all that stuff wouldn't be fucked over by the release of a sequel, where they have to go through the same shit again from the start.
D2 feels worse to me than D1 did on launch, which is saying alot. Like where was the story of earning your first spaceship... no you just get given 1 by a total stranger for no reason and fly away with it... then they dont give you a speedbike until the campaign is over to make it feel longer, because there is no content in the story.
Marco Alverez Dude, Destiny 1 was awesome at launch since there were no paywalls, all content was available without DLC and players actually played together like a community. But yes, it had little to no content.

i bought the full game + season pass (collectors digital edition) r.i.p me. i really had faith in this game that it would improve. it shocks me how far back they can take their content. For instance, all the features that we had at the end of destiny 1, was stripped and given back to us in destiny 2 behind payed walls, which is a complete and utter poor attempt to keeping this game alive. I was a hardcore fan of destiny, had about 1500 hours clocked in, in the original game up until the end of year 3. We are now here in destiny 2, the first dlc. I am extremely disappointed in the way bungie as upheld the integrity and i will no longer support a greedy company that only ask for forgiveness when they themselves know that they have fucked up due to their attempt to in a sense, scam us for more money through a marketing attempt that was poorly made. i refuse to support a company that took my best intentions and utterly crushed them through monetisation and pay walls. Bungie, you have disappointed the community for the last time. No matter what you do past this point, the community will remember. I highly suggest that you refund all copies of the game (dlcs included) and to release the content for FREE as you promised so long ago (this was before even Destiny 1 was released, where they stated in an interview that all updates and content updates would be free. [no i am not going to look for an interview link, look for it yourself]). This was a complete and utter waste of time. How dare you look at your fan base as money wallets as if everybody who plays the game is able to fork out money. How dare you take away content and lock it behind a pay wall. Up to the release of the game and then all best are off in a lot of cases. More steam games than I'd like to admit make money on promises of future updates in Early access games that go no where. The thing is it's often easier for the some what anonymous Indie company to just change it's name and start over. They have nothing to really lose in most cases by trashing their reputation. Some times it's come out a single company had thousands of shell names they published the same games under.
Look up the Dev team behind warframe. Even if you don't like the game you will see that they do indeed listen to their players, even 4 years after release.
If you have a dedicated raid group it's probably worth getting, the raid lair was a blast. However, that's the only piece of content in the DLC that's worth even spending time on, so if you don't have 5 friends that you can have fun learning the lair with then this DLC is worthless
I like to dlc it's a little short but it was good. But I know I love destiny 2 because I love the first one. I bought the $100 game. So far im happy with what I'm getting.
Now all these years later, I bought a discounted destiny 2 bundle with forsaken shadow keep and beyond light. No vanilla destiny 2 except for the initial mission, and that's it. They haven't changed at all.

This 'expansion' is a joke. This is not an expansion, this is a content patch with a pricetag. I'm a new fan to the Destiny universe and I'm hoping that a swift kick up the arse, combined with a reality check will finally make Bungie aware that they're headed further and further away from the post-Taken King game quality.

Tyrodin the post taken king era was simply luck, after numerous patches, events, expansions, etc the game was finally "good" it wasn't exactly skill or anything, just bungie throwing a bunch of shit at the wall hoping something sticks, rise of iron proved this by being mediocre.

That clip of the old Bungie made me really sad. That's who Bungie used to be. Amazing game developers who set the standard and stage for first person shooters. Now Bungie has been replaced by Activision lackeys who are borderline IRS agents. Most if not all of the original Bungie members who made Halo what it was have left. Ecap D1 was actually great by year 2 and through year 3...D2 is an obvious cash grab in every aspect and that is why our hardcore crowd is all pissed...all content in this game is locked behind pay walls now and they wonder why we are all pissed and quitting
I only got to play D1 about 2 years in and it was just as vapid and boring to me as this release. In both cases I constantly feel like I am playing an MMO by myself.

As a day 1 year 1 D1 player, year 2 was absolute shit. I didn't even finish the Taken King before I dropped the game in the garbage. Bungie was screwing over the players even then, but few people wanted to see it.
Maybe there is actual progress to be had with consumer conscience in the video game industry. Personally I am still skeptical as I am sure that SkillUp is much more analytical and self-aware than other Destiny (or nearly any AAA-title) players and therefore would rather correct his own attitude than engaging in the pathologically aggressive form of ignorance that Im sure everybody around here has experienced.
Maybe Destiny 3 will be a flop if its ever released, but honestly people will instead just buy the next premium scam that had enough cash sunk into its marketing. Because apparently, looks, trends and eloquent slogans are what people want to base their consuming decisions on and not quality, depth or originality. That attitude is why it could even come to this and it is the katalyst for what AAA-games wil be in the future.

A lore rant for a moment if I might:
I think it's becoming more and more clear, that the bulk of the storytelling in Destiny 1, via the lore, was, if not outright created by Joseph Staten, overseen by him. Given that the Dreadnought was to appear in Destiny 1 vanilla then its safe to assume that a large portion of the lore explaining the hive, and Oryx, was also created prior to the reboot. That important because there's a noticeable drop in quality of the Rise of Iron Lore. It goes from large mind-blowing concepts to small interpersonal interactions. There's also a lot of inconsistencies within the RoI lore, I always attributed this to the quick turn around on the project. Now it seems that whoever is in charge of writing is either incompetent, or they just don't care. Look at Brother Vance, A guy who was this Blind Soothsayer, who like Eris seems to have lost his Ghost and his eyesight. He now served as an emissary to the Queen for Osiris, and Hosted the Trials of Osiris. Now we get someone who is, what the adoring fan from oblivion, and a lore entry that reads so painfully like it’s a last minute retcon.
And you know where you find that lore entry? On the Machina Dei 4… As if to COMPLETELY miss the point of having a Strangers Rifle like weapon return to Destiny. There’s only 2 technically 3 places that model has ever been used. The Stranger Rifle and No Time To Explain, (the Fate of All Fools was never released.) They don’t use this opportunity to expand on that lore, no they just use it to retcon Bother Vance’s status as a warlock.
This is the textbook definition of missing the point.
The quality of the lore integration into Destiny has been slipping ever further into; Karen-Only-3-Million-Storm-Troopers-Traviss’s character assassination of Dr. Catherine Halsey from Halo, levels of bad.
This is like Shaxx calling us Young Wolf and then Lord Saladin treating us like we’ve never seen one another before. This is like Osiris somehow reading the Book of Sorrow, but not knowing who we are. It ludicrously bad writing being perpetrated by someone who doesn’t understand the universe or doesn’t care.
You know what the craziest/worst part of this is? This game has an honest to God writing staff. I think it's like 6 people. 6 people are paid probably decent wages to write B-movie level dialogue (we're not so different you and I) and to forget and mess up their own lore. IMO this is why gaming costs are blowing up, incompetent hiring bloat.

Same here. Over 1000 hours in Destiny 1, and I haven't even cleared the Leviathan raid more than once or gone flawless in Trails of the Nine. Kept investing in Destiny 1 because the game kept getting better - Post April Update meta was the highlight of my Destiny PVP experience, Age of Triumph the highlight of PVE. Destiny 2 is nothing more than a hallowed out shell, stuffed with the greed of corporate scumbags trying to make a quick cash grab. It makes me feel bad for investing money in the first game.

Same for me. Year one player. Maxed light every time. All shaders and all emblems .. and then they released Destiny 2 and i didnt get to keep any of it. My grind was pointless. But still i stayed with this game .. i completed the max light. All raids and events etc .. in Destiny 2. Then this dlc was released.. and thats fucking it im done. This game should have been soo good. Shame on you Bungie shame on you.

We got D1 after Dark Below. We loved it even with some problems. Met some amazing guardians one who became my best friend. And we could play with another friend even though he didnt have the DLC he still had end game to do. Strikes, Crucible and Nightfalls etc

Although it pains me to say this, I cant help but agree. I was not a year 1 destiny player. Heck, I wasn’t even year 2. I bought the collection in January. But I played it. And played it. I became obsessed with the game. After maxing out 2 characters and moving on to my third, I still wasn’t bored and was loving it. There was just something that kept me coming back. And when I learned about destiny 2 and how I could share the experience of a new destiny with everyone, I was overjoyed. But now, sitting here, I find it painful to even get on. Sometimes, if none of my friends are playing, I won’t even get on. The game that had once inspired me and gave an escape to another world is now nothing more than a bland money pit that just keeps digging itself into a deeper hole. I’ve tried to hang on. Out of all my friends, I’m the only one who still played because I had hope. Hope in a developer that had delivered me the greatest gaming experience in my life, with memories that I will cherish forever. Hope that this game could rise from the ashes and blow everyone away. And everyone was blown away. No one could believe it when bungie handed us back our hope, beaten and betrayed with a $20 price tag and the title, “The Curse of Osiris”.
Perhaps it’s time to hang our heads and realize destiny is just not worth it anymore.

There is truth in what you say, but even some reviews can be extremely biased. It's hard to tell whether a game will be good or bad at the start, I just go play what interests me, and usually I never regret it. Of course, people need to do research on the games their interested in as well, or they'll end up getting scammed.
Since, I remember when Destiny 2 came out and the reviews were flooding out, it was all but praise for the game mostly. Then a few weeks later, people began regretting it, and the bashing began. I guess it's just best to wait it out for games in general, unless it's something you generally like.
I think people need to remember that the majority of the lead developers at bungie who made the halo series no longer work at bungie. The Talent behind one of the greatest shooters ever made hasn't been at bungie for a quite awhile now. This isn't a company thats worth your time now.
And that is the conundrum faced by every gaming studio, sooner or later. Software developers write in unique styles. They put together programs with hundreds of branches, that have to execute in real time. The people at Bungie now are still learning what the previous group of programmers did. Give 'em a few more years, and who knows? Maybe they can figure out the arcane ways of the past ... or, they could be so befuddled, that they never fully learn the system. Right now, I call this a maintenance release off of Destiny 1. Be happy the program does not crash or go into an infinite loop. I have seen worse disasters in my experience. I'm not saying that you or anyone else should be patient. But, Skillup is not a coder. Those who do not understand software do not realize that this is all part of the PROCESS.
These aren’t coding issues at all, though. Having any knowledge of coding isn’t necessary or even helpful for contextualizing these issues. The problem is in the principles and priorities that were taken during development - loot boxes took a higher priority than basic, quality game design.
Play warframe I wouldn't worry about the warframe devs going greedy cuz a year ago when animal allies came out they added a rolling system for money and they saw that they it was being used to much so they took it out made the allies farmable and gave refunds removing the gambling machine within 3 days and then said the reason they removed this slot machine that was making them a lot of money was that and I quote "They didn't want to make money That Way!" Go out of business, hopefully. Bungie have missed out on all of their targets so far set by Activision to make a well-received game (Bungie were due million dollar bonuse for well rated games). A $500m investment for a game that is basically a $1m effort. I can imagine handlers at Activision will be seething because a bad game, with bad sales and a dwindlng playerbase that does not want to spend more on microtransactions does not bode well with such a large investment. CoDWW2 and Overwatch sit quite comfortably. Destiny is a huge fuckup and may as well be bleedng money considering how much has been invested.
Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy can't design a game for shit; they took the complaints about D1's systems the wrong way and gave us boring worthless shit like the kinetic, energy, heavy weapons system, shitty movement, fixed perks and 4v4 only PvP. ME Chung is in charge of the most anti-social, social game because she can't get over the past. And Christine Thompson writes stories that are so 'on the nose' and filled with exposition over character development that the stories are not compelling or interesting at all. Destiny 1 at least had a wealth of background lore to support the lack of story. D2 has nothing. A lot of Bungie's project leads are hacks.
Nu-Bungie is completely diffrerent from the Bungie of old. The staff I mentioned, and more, rode on the goodwill created by people like Joe Staten and Marty O'Donnell.

Elder Maxson - until the next expansion like taken king where it’s another part of the original game and people buy back in, then that has its own season pass dlc which is terrible and people get locked out and upset again until another expansion you have to pay full price game for, but hey they include everything you already purchased so that makes it worth it. People like the first game will go back because of these big expansions and even buy the season passes to them, essentially destiny 1 sold you 1 game separated into 3 with 3 season passes added to them, all by pulling apart 1 game and 1 good season pass, and it worked people bought it so why wouldn’t they do it again and add loot boxes to make more, hell if people were willing to accept those practices of course they would think it’s ok to continue to push the limits.

I've been playing Warframe since August and loving it. It blows D2 out of the water in terms of customization in the weapon and mod system. The game does have a grind but the time investment makes you feel powerful, one important aspect that D2 definitely is lacking. Bungie doesn't want us to feel powerful. Orb generation is lower, ability refresh is slower, guns are for the most part dull and boring. I pre-purchased the DLC with the season pass and I haven't bothered playing CoO. There's no point, unfortunately.

I'm so happy I passed on getting D2. I spent a lot of time on D1 but got tired of reskinned content, unusable nerfed exotics, and various other issues. I moved on to Elder Scrolls Online and haven't looked back. Would love to see you do a review video about ESO btw.

This game just hits me with multiple levels of disappointment, some opinion and some fact. It goes without saying that I will not be waiting in suspense like I did for three years in D1 for all intensive purposes was a complete and good game. How can they honestly expect us to wait 6 years to get good? Then on top of that take away everything we had from Destiny 1 and make us earn it all again.That's a masters degree for god's sake. This serial murder of our content and then held ransom behind pay walls gets really old fast and if we have not learned now we certainly will be learning in the future that this is the form Bungie is using to press and shape their games going forward. If this were EA speak it would be Updates as a Service....LOL

I wish people would stop comparing these 2. I play Warframe a lot, & I love the game, but these are 2 different games. Simply put, Warframe is about being so overpowered that the only way to fail is be a scrub or get 1- shot due to shitty enemy scaling. Destiny is about fighting being on, more or less, equal ground with “space gods”. Not really the same thing as Warframe’s trash mobs you dispose of by the thousands. So at the end of the day it’s just preference. Do you prefer a simple FPS with shitty RNG, enemy AI & story? Play Destiny. If you prefer a complex 3rd person shooter with shitty RNG, enemy AI & enemy scaling, play Warframe.

I can agree with that somewhat. I think the RNG seems good because there are so many ways to get what you want & there really arent that many "bad" items in the game. I have bad luck in Warframe too, but the trade system helps a lot.

Dec 2002, our company was in a statistics pile that proved most dot coms didn’t make it. I was looking forward to some time off and my buddy gifts me an Xbox. I had not put any time into video games since the arcade in high school. The first game we played… Halo: Combat Evolved in split screen co-op. I was amazed (at the time) how far games had come. We spent 6 hours that first night working through the campaign.
These days, we are separated by several time zones and we have other things in life that take priority, but about twice a month we catch up online and play a game where we both can work towards a few achievements. We’re not hardcore gamers. But we also know when a game is not giving us anything worth our time. We’ve moved on from D2 simply because it’s uninteresting. Osiris was the nail in the coffin. I bought the gold version so am stuck, but I literally finished Osiris just to check the box. Cliche story and trite dialogue.

Just wanna point out that EA and Activision are publishers, not developers. Bungie, Blizzard, DICE, are developers. But yes, I agree with you; games just aren't good anymore, or at least that is true with AAA titles and IPs. I had over 1.000 hrs in Destiny 1. In Destiny 2, after the donut dlc Osiris, close to 90 and I am done with this game too.

As much as I agree with you, I see a lot of people saying "i spent x amount of hours on D1" you cant say that. You can only calculate the amount of hours u played within a period of time i.e i played 100 hours in 2 month of D1s release compared to me playing only 20 hours in 2 months of D2s release.

Im assuming (generalising) he started playing The Taken King until D2's release?, that's 2 years for him to accumulate 1,000 hours, for him to accumulate 1,000 hours in D2 is very hard within 4 months, yes its doable but it puts a harsher time frame on D2.

Destiny’s world, systems, mechanics and overall design is intoxicating. Warframe often feels far too difficult to get into without an obvious example of what is so fun or great about it, but when I load up Destiny I get a completely different feel. I feel overwhelmed, but in a good way. I want to learn what to do, I want to grind, I want to further my progression meaningfully so that I can continue to earn guns that will shake up my play style and give me further reason to do harder content.
Destiny is everything I’ve wanted from World of Warcraft for a long time. It is fun and entrapping myself into the grind in a way that I can’t enjoy in Warframe.
Warframe is a game. Destiny is an experience.

I don't quite think so. He explains that a 'good' business would offer a meal and service for free just to satisfy their upset customer. Destiny has countless upset customers at this point but, instead of offering an incentive for them to forgive the company and continue playing, it's more cost-effective to let them go. The players who 'give up' are just factored into the numbers, just like how Wall-Mart will write shoplifting into their calculations. Once the money trades hands, it's done, no need to keep the customer entertained. The upset customers will only come back when they think that the company has changed and Bungie, much like many other companies these days, will do everything they can to try and market their next big thing as something that needs buying.

In Destiny 2 there is no incentive to do anything at all. Exotics act the exact same - if not worse - than their legendary counterparts, multiplayer is still unappealing to the casual player, and the game still relies on forced-DLC.
I played D1 for 34 days in total, and held faith that Bungie could only improve. I was wrong and will never buy another game by this horrible company again.

New player here in 2022 watching all Skill Up's old Destiny 2 videos because he speaks highly of the game these days. The game is so good now. Bungie turned the ship around with the help of folks like Skill Up providing thoughtful constructive criticism.

Hi Skill up... well here I am three months later... after what, after I watched your Warframe vid and gave it a try. I struggled at first but was enticed back to Warframe a couple times... Now 330 hours in, I went back to D2 for the DLC... and it IS SHIIIIITT!!! Absolutely boring AF!! My mates are kinda pissed at me, and give me shit for the 200 beans I've dropped on WF so far, but you know what??? IDC. Warframe keeps giving. Even if It doesnt look as good - My analogy is this... Destiny 2 is that really good looking girl that stirs your pants up something crazy, but after living with her for a couple months you start to... think lol.
Warframe is the girl that might not look AS good, but is real pretty in her own right... and most important of all, you can ACTUALLY HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH HER.

I stopped playing a month ago to play some new games and I wanted this to feel really fresh. However I can't believe I came back for this. I think I finished it in 2 hours and some of that was in my vault since we got Tess's engrams wick. So quickly we leveled to 25 actually I though shit they must have really throttled us before.

Now what motivation does Bungie have to change anything when there are thousands upon thousands of players spending hundreds of dollars on silver? The problem is, there are more of them than there are of us. Meaning more people will continue to buy and put up with whatever destiny 2 does to them. Damn, this game was such a huge disaster when it launched, but it's grown so much since. It only looks the same, but is in fact not even the same game anymore.
Like, every decision Bungo made for D2, from the marketing, to the story and the sandbox was completely and utterly wrong.
But looking at what the game was like in Y1 and comparing it to today (Season of the Seraph, less than 2 weeks away from Lightfall) I can't help but feel happy and proud of how my favorite -addiction - game of all time... yes I know, I love many a game franchise but none of them are or ever will be Destiny. That's just a fact... I'm just happy to see this game and franchise grow from what it initially released as to what it is today.
Forsaken was the turning point, the big change Destiny 2 needed. But Shadowkeep was the real game changer, because it introduced seasons and champions.

Wrong, the only people from Bungie that are at 343 are Frank O'Connor (who was more of a middleman between Bungie and Microsoft rather than someone who had creative control) and the guy who was the Halo 2 Multiplayer lead. There may be a few other guys here and there but it's nowhere near "a lot".
People see the name, the faces behind the name typically don't resonate as strongly, unless given an apt reason to do so. In this case it is apt, but it has simply flown over the hands of many for a sense of blind loyalty.

Biggs i disagree somewhat, the taken king was great in terms of detail, calcified frag black spindle and no time to explain mission, exotic sword missions, sniper pvp meta, the longest raid destiny has seen with the most fledged out antagonist and personally the grind was my fav part, the april update brought good changes to the grind for the community as a whole and the rise of iron continued this trend just on a smaller scale and we actually had real live events yes it had flaws and you cant please everyone but destiny 2 is just shallow in story lore activities rewards locations nothing about this game is better except art and music but destiny is a game not a movie

Splitting community with paid DLCs and locking them out of old content they initially had access to is a bad model though, but yeah, it still would've been better than this. D2 feels worse to me than D1 did on launch, which is saying alot. Like where was the story of earning your first spaceship... no you just get given 1 by a total stranger for no reason and fly away with it... then they dont give you a speedbike until the campaign is over to make it feel longer, because there is no content in the story.

i bought the full game + season pass (collectors digital edition) r.i.p me. i really had faith in this game that it would improve. it shocks me how far back they can take their content. For instance, all the features that we had at the end of destiny 1, was stripped and given back to us in destiny 2 behind payed walls, which is a complete and utter poor attempt to keeping this game alive. I was a hardcore fan of destiny, had about 1500 hours clocked in, in the original game up until the end of year 3.
We are now here in destiny 2, the first dlc. I am extremely disappointed in the way bungie as upheld the integrity and i will no longer support a greedy company that only ask for forgiveness when they themselves know that they have fucked up due to their attempt to in a sense, scam us for more money through a marketing attempt that was poorly made. i refuse to support a company that took my best intentions and utterly crushed them through monetisation and pay walls.
Bungie, you have disappointed the community for the last time. No matter what you do past this point, the community will remember. I highly suggest that you refund all copies of the game (dlcs included) and to release the content for FREE as you promised so long ago (this was before even Destiny 1 was released, where they stated in an interview that all updates and content updates would be free. [no i am not going to look for an interview link, look for it yourself]). This was a complete and utter waste of time. How dare you look at your fan base as money wallets as if everybody who plays the game is able to fork out money. How dare you take away content and lock it behind a pay wall.

Just because they get on twitter of discord and talk with you guys for a while it doesn't mean they are listening. Up to the release of the game and then all best are off in a lot of cases. More steam games than I'd like to admit make money on promises of future updates in Early access games that go no where. The thing is it's often easier for the some what anonymous Indie company to just change it's name and start over. They have nothing to really lose in most cases by trashing their reputation. Some times it's come out a single company had thousands of shell names they published the same games under.
Look up the Dev team behind warframe. Even if you don't like the game you will see that they do indeed listen to their players, even 4 years after release.

If you have a dedicated raid group it's probably worth getting, the raid lair was a blast. However, that's the only piece of content in the DLC that's worth even spending time on, so if you don't have 5 friends that you can have fun learning the lair with then this DLC is worthless

Now all these years later, I bought a discounted destiny 2 bundle with forsaken shadow keep and beyond light. No vanilla destiny 2 except for the initial mission, and that's it. They haven't changed at all.
