In regards to the hate chip, I'm pretty sure sly is the only cooper to actually beat clockwerk, and the first time the bird was kinda in lava, no real opportunity for any of them to learn about the hate chip
Carmelita definitely didn’t steal that helicopter. She just commandeered Dimitri’s from his cut level, obviously. Then plastered Interpol symbols all over it. And added a gun. Maybe she did just hijack it from Interpol…
I didn't even consider the Foreshadowing of "Old Bird" to possibly be of Clockwork lol, "Bird" is a Slang term referring to a lady, so I always assumed the intended thing new players where supposed to think of was her talking about some Lady Cop above her, perhaps the Boss. I never considered that new players would think about Clockwork.
One thing I always wished for the ending, was that Neyla at the beginning spoke as herself, slowly turning into Clock-La and by the end nothing of her is left. Only Clockwork.
21:50 Well, to be fair, looking at a globe shows that a straight line from northern Nunavut to Paris would at first take you east (and actually somewhat north). Once you reach Greenland, however, the line starts curving until you pass Iceland, and after that the direction is south-east. If Arpeggio decided not to take the route as the crow flies (or the owl flies), his blimp approaching Paris from the north in a south-facing direction wouldn't be too farfetched.
The compass saying you're flying south can actually be explained by all of the magnets on the carrier. Also I don't know why I remember a line in this episode where it's actually clockwork talking over Neyla. Showing that if Sly failed, Neyla would eventually fall to the corruption of Clockwerk.
I just binged this whole series and I literally CANNOT wait for your series on 3. The growth of the gangs relationship in 3 and the plot itself are so great and represents the best of the PS2's era! After seeing all this I KNOW you'll do Sly 3 justice ❤️
I love how much effort you put in your videos! It shows that you don’t care what the numbers are but you just care for making content you love and what people like you love!
been binging these "breaking down sly" series in the last week and gotta say, there are some things even i didn't know. despite playing the full series (well, at least trilogy) once or twice EVERY year (in the last 15 or so years) can't wait to see what all i've missed in Sly 3 😮
Something I don't think you mentioned about Sly 2: The music is _great._ Each level's main track perfectly captures what it must feel like for the gang to work through it. For The Black Chataeu, the soft brass and strumming of the guitar give off the sense that you're in your natural element, that sneaking around the guards is as simple as walking down the streets. A Starry Eyed Encounter and The Predator Awakens both take a more Indian approach to their instrumentation, but The Predator Awakes puts far more emphasis on percussion as Rajan's hiding out in the jungle. Interestingly enough, you can hear similar instruments playing in the main music for A Starry Eyed Encounter. It's like after running Rajan out of his palace, the veneer has fallen off. Jailbreak and A Tangled Web, especially the former, both give off this oppressive atmosphere. It builds up how dreadful the situation has gotten, trying to break you down. In A Tangled Web, you can also hear the beating of war drums. Fitting, as the main point of that chapter is the war between the Contessa and Neyla. With He Who Tames The Wild Horse and Menace From The North Eh... Well, okay, you got me there. It just fits Canada and Jean Bison. And that leaves us with Anatomy For Disaster: Everything about it feels wrong in all the right ways. The music feels disoriented, accentuating the vertigo of a slapdash airship cobbled together from various eras at a dizzying height and how, by this point, we've lost. Arpeggio has collected the Clockwerk parts, Neyla takes the Clockwerk body once it's assembled, and we're hours away from disaster.
4:45 I was thinking that same thing, the only way it could make sense if its a rigid airship, not a blimp, and you're inside a catwalk or room that's inside the envelope but separate from/in between the helium gas cells, but it doesn't look like this game got that detail right. (said rooms/catwalks would also need to be way smaller than the gas cells)
Something I want to draw attention to is the colour palette they used in this level. As it is somewhat well known (though, surprisingly hard to find via google) the colour palettes of each episode in sly 1 is based on it's respective member of the fiendish five, with of course the exception of paris which has it's colours based on the palette of sly himself. Now I don't think this is strictly how this works in sly 2, as there are a lot of instances of the episodes colour palettes not exactly mimmicking it's boss. However I still think that they didn't gave up this idea of the palette mattering quite a lot more then you'd think, and there is probably a lot of room for analysis with each of the episodes colours. But what I want to specifically focus on now are the palettes of paris and the airship. 2 levels that have a certain connection, both beeing the only levels in the game that don't come in a pair, one beeing the start, the other beeing the end, etc, etc. Paris has pretty much still the same colours as it had in sly 1. As you said in your series multiple times, this is sly's home-turf, it makes sense for it to have his palette. The Airship on the other hand is interesting. The airship itself may have a palette fitting to arpeggio, but the sky... the sky is in neylas colours. And there is something very interesting happening once the boss fight reaches paris we also get paris' colour-palette back... except... if you compare the colour of the sky from this last stage of the fight with the colour the sky has in the black chateu it is still a fair bit more purple-ish then it used to be, it is somewhere inbetween this sly-based sky and the neyla-based sky. Like it would love to be the blue of slys hometurf, but it can't be as long as neyla/clockwerk is still clinging to life. (obviously it also just represents the time of day shifting to night)
I don't understand why Arpeggio would choose Paris as his spot to unleash his Hypnotic Light Show of Hate. I mean there are lots of other cities in the world for Dimitri to sell his spice. Like New York City for example, it has a way bigger population and lots of more nightclubs for Dimitri to sell his spice. Meaning that Arpeggio will have twice the power of hatred once he merges with Clockwerk and gain immortality through the Hypnotic Light Show of Hate.
For the museum break in I figure Dimitri opens a new nightclub and requests extra police presence contessa grants that request taking security from the museum. Then Rajan and Jean do the break in and stealing explaining why they got the most parts. While Arpeggio monitors tge operation.
Fun fact so you don’t have to replay through the whole game again If you have a 100% save you can input a cheat code at the start screen for the mega jump ability to show up in your gadget screen Pause and type out right, left, right, left,R1, left on the d-pad You should hear the same noise you hear when you equip a gadget on the pause screen then all you have to do is unpause the game, go into your gadgets and equip the ability that’s in the bottom right corner You can also use it in any level but anytime you reload the area you have to input the cheat again Btw are you gonna do this breakdown style of thing for sly 1 and 3, maybe 4
Could just be a guess, but the "wingy things" on the kiro coins could be the ears of anubis, or wings of ra. also, nice work. I also hope if they redo the hd collection, fix the issues, keep the upgrades too.

Lol
Either that a certain otter from the comics helped her get it.

Okay your breakdown of how Neyla lacks a backstory and how her combining with the Clockwerk body just blew my mind

literally can’t wait. If he does the whole series of this or says he is, i’m subbing to his Patreon ASAP!
I never realized that there was only 7 missions in Episode 8 before.

This needs more attention
This is by far the gameplay commentary ever more people who work on games should do this

*I can't wait! I love these videos. Are you doing the whole series?*

if you do sly 3 i will just explode those vids made me able to enjoy sly 2 even more
So glad you touched on the contrasts between Sly and Neyla, they’re subtle but I think they’re meaningful
Enjoyed watching this series over the past couple of days. Tought me some new things too. Looking forward to the next breakdown series.
Congrats on this breakdown of the game! 👏 Can’t wait for a breakdown series on Sly 3!
This channel deserves more subscribers and the videos deserve more views, this concept is so interesting for a video. Please do more!!!
Nice work! This is one of my favorite games and you certainly did it justice.
You NEED to do Sly 3 next!! 😍😍
Arpeggio passed over the north pole. That's why you're going south toward France.
just wanted to say i really liked this series
YESSSSS Keep making more videos! This is the best content on UA-cam rn!
Fun fact so you don’t have to replay through the whole game again
If you have a 100% save you can input a cheat code at the start screen for the mega jump ability to show up in your gadget screen
Pause and type out right, left, right, left,R1, left on the d-pad
You should hear the same noise you hear when you equip a gadget on the pause screen then all you have to do is unpause the game, go into your gadgets and equip the ability that’s in the bottom right corner
You can also use it in any level but anytime you reload the area you have to input the cheat again
Btw are you gonna do this breakdown style of thing for sly 1 and 3, maybe 4
Great video
We need a sly 3 breakdown
Congratulations on a series well done
Excellent breakdown!
You've done a great job on this game! While I came for Sly, I'm subscribed and ready for further videos from you! Great job!
these videos are so good man, you’re awesome.
Since my name begins with an A, the A Arpeggio uses is actually how I write my name. Only my name, however, no other A names.
Could just be a guess, but the "wingy things" on the kiro coins could be the ears of anubis, or wings of ra. also, nice work. I also hope if they redo the hd collection, fix the issues, keep the upgrades too.
Ohhh I wish I’d thought of that. I actually looked up the real museum, and couldn’t find any iconography like that, so I just let it go 😅
i get that lol. just a guess though XD. great vid. God bless and excited for ur next vids. u do thorough work ^^@@2CPhoenix

I played this game multiple times, and I had no idea you could do this!
Actually, did you do Sly 1 yet?
Does anyone know why the guard at 17:40 has stars coming out of their back?
