Doing the JMT nobo, same as you in August this year! Just me and my uncle. Will be much slower than you for sure, but we're old guys. Gotta take it easy. Looking forward to the views and jumping in those lakes!
JMT is definitely a trail I will hike in the very near future! TMB is up next, solo, in June. I haven’t decide if I want to do the GR20 or JMT in the fall. Nice video btw. 👋 from Canada!
@@ChadLubinski TMB (tour du Mont Blanc) in the alps - 170 km. And the GR20 is on the island of Corsica (south of France, belong to France) apparently it’s the hardest européen hike…. Lots of UA-cam video on it. I’ve never hike in Europe so I can’t speak for both….
Wow, I’m so deeply moved by the story and the telling of your JMT journey. Been watching a slew of videos of solo JMT trips and this video is my favorite. It was like we are right there with you. I appreciate the honest reflections and practical tips in your story that are gonna help me a ton on my upcoming trip. Love your positive attitude and your drive to keep on keeping on… you’re a badass!
@@ChadLubinski thanks for the encouragement! I’m pumped! I just listened to your accompanying podcast episode about the trip and can’t believe the emotional upheavals you were going through at the end of this trip. I enjoyed watching your trek - you really cruised thru it. I am watching hikers videos while I rehab from a knee replacement. I did the JMT in 2 sections in 2016 & 2017 (had to stop due to knee not functioning correctly the first time). Loved it and l enjoy reliving my trek thru the videos of other hikers. Thank you. Happy Trails.
Beautiful trip dude! I did the JMT but had to do it (solitaire) in sections over the years and always had to end up back at my car so I ended up walking more than twice the actual length of the trail...Some of the best times of my life and the most beautiful places that I have ever been. They still touch me and always will.
I'm half way decided to hike it SB this summer. I got picked for a June 26 start date and have a lot of planning, diet and exercise to do between now and then. I have all the gear and starting to buy food. Keeping fingers crossed.
@@ChadLubinski I hope so. I am going to start dieting and exercising soon and make airline reservations mid April. I have a cousin outside of Reno I can use as a base so I can pack everything in a suit case to protect it.
Well done man; congratulations! Your cool video is a great way to relive the adventure. My friend and I did it in 2019 almost exactly the same way (we only had one resupply/day off at VVR), same number of days and kept hiking to the shuttle buses to get a total of 245 miles. I would definitely do it again one day. Kudos to you and all the hikers that do it solo. Happy trails brother!!!
Really enjoyed that brotha… I finished the last 963 miles I needed last summer (2 months) to complete the PCT and thinking about hiking just the JMT this summer (have a NoBo permit exactly like yours) so I can slow down a little and enjoy that section more. Keep telling people how difficult the terrain was for the PCT in that section along with another 300-400 miles past Yosemite ( the Sierra continue that far) but it’s difficult to explain. You have to hike it to know. Proud of you for getting past the tough days you had which are inevitable. Next you need to hike the entire PCT! The norther cascades were my favorite with the Sierra being a close second. Cheers Marmalade

Thank you for recording and sharing your hike. I also watched the video about how to get to and from the JMT. I didn't see anything on how you got from Happy Isles to the pickup for YARTS. I am also going NOBO this year and got a YARTS ticket from Tuolumne Meadows visitors center to Lee Vining. When I look at the routes on the Yosemite visitors shuttle, by Happy Isles it doesn't go to the TM visitors center.
Great documentary and thanks for sharing your gear list. I am thinking about getting the sawyer squeeze thru the link but some reviews state that the sawyer bags don't last too long. Noticed you had a different bag , anything you would recommend? Thanks!

I usually run it "in line" with a 1L Smart water bottle... in other words, I carry 2 1L bottles - one dirty and one clean. That's interesting! For me, I remember a few things: : 1. I ate a bad protein bar that wrecked my stomach. 2. The exposure seemed unrelenting and the trail just kept going up and screwing with my head

There was a lot of things on the JMT that made me want to quit, but I pushed through them to discover another version of myself. That confidence made it possible for me to take on more difficult challenges in the future.
If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you.
Solo hiking is very lonely for me, too. I preferred hiking with my best friend and love of my life.
If you don’t mind me asking, are you recording from your iPhone? Also how do you edit your videos? The quality is insanely good
Yeah man, this was an Iphone 11 and i edited on my phone on an app called Kinemaster lmao. Those were the days! thanks for watching!
@@ChadLubinski I’m definitely gonna check out more of your videos. In need of some thru hiking advice
Should I bring my tent or bivy sack enough?
I’d bring a tent!
I'd like to vote more along the lines of "know your comfort level." Having done this trail, a bivy is absolutely enough if you're used to them.
Which month did you hike the JMT?
July!
What does the hand gesture mean at 50:12?
it means rock on
Is water fill ups common on JMT?
Yes, a lot of streams and lakes!
What about that sandy trail from CSL to Siberia Pass cutoff
What’s CSL again??
Also it seems for sone reason everyone says Muir pass might be the worse out of the 9 or 10 passes, why is that from your perspective ? Thanks
That's interesting! For me, I remember a few things: : 1. I ate a bad protein bar that wrecked my stomach. 2. The exposure seemed unrelenting and the trail just kept going up and screwing with my head
you darn right it is up!!! I went southbound in 2021 and it was forever down hill. I kept thinking I wouldn't want to walk up that stretch@@ChadLubinski
Is that an Outdoor Vitals pack?
No just a ULA Circuit
How do you know where the water caches are
there is no water caches on this JMT. I have an app called FarOut that shows me where the streams and lakes are though.
29:00 "it's not" 😂
worst frickin day of the trip lmao
👏🙏🙏
thanks for watching!!
What cellphone pouch do u have
Thats a pocket made by Hyperlite Mountain Gear! Only one on their site I believe
Damn I didn’t know this dude was bald lol
as a cueball
What time of year were you hiking?
July 16
@@ChadLubinski Thx
Why are you so concern about raining
I’m a wuss
No matter how good your rain gear is, you will eventually get soaked if it rains long enough...
Why were u stressing so much about food .. if u had 3 days worth and ur resupply was in 3 days then either way u would seem to be in good shape even if u didn’t have much left; was it that u just didn’t like what u had remaining or what u had left was not enough calories??
Good question. My hiker hunger was kicking in at that point and I was needing more calories than I packed for.
Not sure it is cool to pick onions in a protected environment.
please tell me more about why that's not "cool" Doug
They are like grass in the alpine lol, 😂 not endangered at all !
Never Use The Name Of God In Vain. Im Not Watching anymore of you😢
omg ok
