Want to thank you guys for putting together one of the best JMT documentaries I have watched, and I have watched a few. I am 75 years old and I too am a Thru Hiker. I accomplished that when I was 53 over 22 years ago. As you can guess, I will never again see the sunrise on the top of Whitney. However I did do a 6 day hike with my daughter to the top of Whitney when I was 60 years old, and for the last time. But I still can easily re-live the splendor of the trial by watch videos like this. It is always interesting to see what trials and tribulations will come with each video I watch. I want to congratulate on truly having the funniest video of all. Your humor reminds me so much of the sense of humor that my brother and I experience. We can easily get into this non-sensical world just like your 800-Solution Channel which was hilarious. And I totally identify with your Rage hiking. I experienced that for the first time going over Cathedral Pass and it helped immensely! Thanks again and welcome to the “club”

thank you so much for the high compliments. so glad you got to do whitney with your daughter -- that sounds like a defining experience. we met some guys in their ~70s on the west coast trail, which has less elevation than jmt and is a bit more palatable. something to consider!

Watched 5 minutes of this documentary, remembered what it was like and how I felt the first time I hiked up the Nevada Falls trail, the memories of how incredible and freeing life felt at that moment are flooding back. I think I'll wait on watching the rest of this documentary until I do the hike myself. Don't want to spoil to beauty of it before I go. Thanks for the reminder guys.

I recently read the novel "The Trail" by Ethan Gallogly and it is about a young man who hikes the john Muir Trail with his deceased father's best friend. He learns a lot about himself on the 21 day hike and they visited every place you did in your documentary. You brought that story to life. Thank you. It inspires me to get out there more and spend time in nature.

I've watched so many JMT and PCT documentaries, and this is by far my favorite. You've really captured the spirit of what these adventures are at their best (in my opinion anyway), and it really touched me. I appreciate your reverence for nature, your humor, your interest in sharing glimpses of history along with your own commentary, your bond as brothers and travel partners, the awe and beauty of nature, and how you faced the pain and challenges while celebrating the totality of the experience. Thank you for sharing!

Wow, this documentary about two brothers hiking the JMT was absolutely amazing! The way they captured the trail's beauty and history was really impressive. It was clear that these two brothers have a deep connection and love for hiking, which made the video even more special. The shots of the mountains and lakes were breathtaking, and I felt like I was right there with them on the trail. This video was really well done and I'm so glad I stumbled upon it on UA-cam. It's definitely worth a watch for anyone who loves hiking or just wants to appreciate the beauty of nature. It is truly a beautiful experience to witness the bond that is forged between two brothers as they complete a challenging feat together.

You brothers are so very fortunate that you can do this together and your humor and positive outlook helped make the trip all the better. Hey guys, treasure this and other videos of you two hiking together because there will come a day when one of you will be gone and the other will carry on. That documentary was absolutely beautiful! 💗
I like how you wove in some history at the beginning and end and noted the wilderness names along the way.
Starting that late in the season, it looks like you (almost) had the trail to yourselves. 😁
With about 12 hours of daylight (8 hours of direct sunlight) per day, not much time for breaks along the way.
I LOVE the stable 4K footage with nice audio with a wind guard, which most vloggers forget.
It looked really nice on my 2K 27" true-color display. I can't wait to watch it again on my 50" 4K Samsung LCD.
I carried 7 days of food while hiking the 100 Mile Wilderness Sept. 2021. IDK how you carried 11 days? 😳
With the record snow-pack, I'm guessing the trail won't open until July this year. I hope I'm wrong.
I turned 60 last year and had a lottery ticket for a June 19 departure but could not make it. I will keep trying.

Thank you so much for the kind words! So glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I like watching this one on my big 4K TV. The camera we used looks so good. Yeah, 11 days of food is the most we've ever carried. We were totally out of food on the way down from Whitney though except a couple bars!

One of the VERY BEST UA-cam hiking videos I've watched. If we could give it a rating, you'd get 5 of 5 stars.
The content is excellent. Liked that you included history and Native American contributions. I'm a history fan so...I would have enjoyed even more. Your personal comments were interesting and apropos. In addition to the great content, the photography, audio AND music selections were top notch. I'm going to incorporate "Where's that pass" into my own future backpacking trips.
Singing? I don't want to torture my fellow hikers but looked like good fun- I will have to try regardless.
AND...I can't wait to try Fizzy Colas!!! If they're as good as you made them out to be, they'll be a new addition to all future trips.
Thanks for the effort and quality you put into making this video. I'm going to check out more of your work.

That is correct if you stayed on the JMT and camped at the backpacking camp. I'm extremely accurate about true mileage, section mileage, moving speed, overall speed, and resting time. I realized that if you don't pause your GPS when you stop moving, it keeps adding mileage to your total distance. My girlfriend always had 3 to 4 miles than me at the end of our 20 mile average days. We got into arguments about it. I pause mine, she let hers run. She wiggles around so much that the satellites counted her wiggles as mileage 😂. I'm not making this up. We have the same GARMIN GPS. My mileage from HI to CR to Sunrise Lakes is 15.1 miles. Strenuous 1st day. 5.3 to TM 1.7 to LCTH, 10.8 to UL Lake. Just 2.6 below DP Day 2. Mileage varies alot depending on how it is measured. Harrison and Nat Geo maps are pretty darn accurate.
Thanks I'm going to watch the rest of it

I loved this! I am planning my JMT trip this summer! Your video was by far the best i have watched for information. I am older and wanting to know what conditioning did you do get prepared? Do you feel you could have done more. I am starting now so I will be in the best shape I have ever been in. I did the sawtooth mountains last summer and it was insanely beautiful. Merry Christmas and thank you for your video.

Hi Kathy, Honestly, in my opinion, the best and only really good way to prepare and condition for a backpacking trip is to... do backpacking trips. No matter how many gym workouts I do, they never truly prepare me. But I did the 11-day Tour du Mont Blanc backpacking trip immediately before the JMT (with one day in between) and it made the JMT a true pleasure for me, because my body was SO ready for it. That's one reason you see my brother complaining in the video, it was annoying to him that I happened to be in such good shape (usually he's the one who is stronger than me!). So, if you can manage to do multiple weekend backpacking trips for a couple months before the JMT I think that will make you the happiest.

our trip started September 25, which is considered past the end of the season. due to the fact that the risk of snow is very high and many services are closed, we don't recommend going that late.

Man I really disliked your comments, however well qualified, about John Muir (or anyone else of the time) and his "racist" beliefs...in 2022 this word has no objective definition and has no place in a hiking video. John Muir was not racist even by old standards. He made no "mistakes" nor did Ansel Adams (frankly I never remember seeing any people in Adams pics),,,this was a different time in evolution. NOT today. WE need to be aware of this horrible habit of ours and stop comparing ourselves to people of a hundred years ago. If for no other reason than it shows ignorance.
At the exact same time it was absolutely normal for parents of all races and backgrounds to not even name there babies or take any interest in their early lives until the baby proved it could survive past the age of about 5....noone talks about those "mistakes"
Sorry for the rant - This issue for me stood out. great hike and a great video and even better, when you get older you are going to thank your creator for taking this time together....Id do anything for more time with my east coast brothers. Peace.
