The year that introduced split semifinals! An idea that I consider a genius one given how hard it became to reach the final in 2004 - 2007. First time the contest was hosted in Serbia, and despite me not really liking the stage design and thinking the year was a bit weaker... (mostly due to the omnipresent troll entries) I'd still say this year has some good hidden gems. Also, at the moment it's one of the first years where the current record of competing countries took part, shared with 2011 and later 2018 with 43 in total!

Great top! Here are my personal points with comments:
12 pts. - Greece 🇬🇷 - Kalomira - Secret Combination
That's definitely one of the best Greek entry in 00's and, actually, in 21st century. It has everything: magical staging, great dancing, catchy beat and a very good voice. Add here her story and you'll get an amazing entry on all sides.
10 pts. - Serbia 🇷🇸 - Jelena Tomašević feat. Bora Dugic - Oro
Also an amazing entry: she has a very beautiful voice and even though, I'm not a big fan of Balcan ballads, this really touched me. I think, that if it wasn't a host entry, it even could win, though it got quite a good place for a host entry - 6th.
8 pts. - Latvia 🇱🇻 - Wolves of the Sea - Pirates of the Sea
Latvia is one of my favourite countries in 00's. They sended so charming, unusual entries, though I'm not a fan of their winning entry. My favourites are "Questa Notte", "I Hear Your Heart", "The War Is Not Over" and, one of my all time favourite songs - "Hello From Mars" (btw, only 5 points for them in 2003, wtf?!). This one is also good - fun, unusual, something that you don't expect in Eurovision.
7 pts. - Denmark 🇩🇰 - Matthew Simon - All Night Long
Another good song from Denmark. They haven't send something fabulous in 00's (well, they tried in 2007, but we know the result). This song is catchy and makes a good atmosphere.
6 pts. - Sweden 🇸🇪 - Charlotte Perrelli - Hero
A bit generic song from Sweden, but it's catchy and she has a good vocals. Also, a little part of chorus reminds me a lot a part of one of ABBA's songs, but I can't understand, which exactly. Maybe, someone can help me?
5 pts. - Iceland 🇮🇸 - The Euroband - This is My Life
Iceland definitely knows how to send duets to Eurovision. This is energetic catchy song. They aren't harmonise as good, as Greta and Jonsi, but I still like it.
4 pts. - Russia 🇷🇺 - Dima Bilan - Believe
Though I like Dima's 2006 entry much more, this one is good, too. Interesting staging and he sings good, and, finally, Russia just needed to win after all these years.
3 pts. - Finland 🇫🇮 - Teräsbetoni - Missä Mehet Ratsastaa
Rock songs are definitely the Finnish style of Eurovision. This one is also good and I really like that it's in Finnish language.
2 pts. - Portugal 🇵🇹 - Vania Fernandes - Senhora Do Maru (Negras Àguas)
Another good ballad in Portuguese language from Portugal. I really like their entries, especially 2009, 2010 and 2014. It reminds me their 2012 entry and I'm glad that they weren't robbed like in 2012.

Fun disco song from UK, I'm agree that they didn't deserve last place at all!
My guilty pleasure of the year is Germany 🇩🇪. Yes, I know that it's BAD vocally, but I somehow like it)

During the video I felt that the songs of 2008 are either amazing or bad 😅 like there is no a middle level xD

Yeah, though there's a lot of entries I don't really care for. But then again, I only really started to learn about Eurovision in 2010, so I have no 'nostalgia' for any of these songs.

My top 10 of ESC 2008
10: Switzerland 🇨🇭: just amazing. How did this not qualify? 8/10.
9: Iceland 🇮🇸: guilty pleasure. The live version is faultless but the studio version lacks something, I do not know what. 8.1/10
8: Sweden 🇸🇪: slightly generic but much better than her winning song in 1999. 8.5/10.
7: Latvia 🇱🇻: just my type of guilty pleasure. The performance is so amazing too. 8.9/10.
6: Finland 🇫🇮: this song is so dramatic and anthemic. It is not my genre and that is the only reason it is is low in this high tier. 9/10
5: Ukraine 🇺🇦: the song is extremely simple but still great but the live performance is stunning. 9.5/10
4: Russia 🇷🇺: honestly this is underrated by the fandom. Although it is not my winner it is sure as hell good. The staging is just the icing on the cake for me. 9.75/10
3: Greece 🇬🇷: such an ethnic bop paid her vocals are great. The dancing is amazing too. 10/10.
2: Armenia 🇦🇲: easy top 3 for me. Everything just comes together here for me. 10/10.
1: Azerbaijan 🇦🇿: this is not everyone’s cup of tea but it sure is mine. Love the song. Best entry from Azerbaijan ever and it is only their debut! 10/10.
Ones that are close for me are Portugal 🇵🇹, Serbia 🇷🇸, The UK 🇬🇧, Norway 🇳🇴, Malta 🇲🇹 and San Marino 🇸🇲.
2008 was one of the first really strong years in my opinion. Love many songs from this era and probably will always love them.
Btw if poland didn't qualify they actually would've had an NQ streak longer than the Netherlands' one

I am russian myself and do criticise a lot of our entries for mediocrity and blandness, but I surely think our only winning act to date is freaking iconic. I am shocked this always is on the list of worst esc winners. Maybe the song itself isn`t a complete masterpiece but it has such a pleasant melody and Dima delivers it very confidently. And this crazily good staging which clearly no one came up with before screams THE WINNER to me
Ukraine had an entertainig performance too but it's whole idea is definitely not something shocking and never seen before
Interesting to hear your arguments about it, as I myself am not fond of his winning entry at all myself.
