Really well done video! Fascinating to see such an eclectic mix of aircraft from around the world. My favorite would be He-111, looked wonderfully restored!
Thanks! I love being able to share the places we go. I think the MiG-29 was my favorite just because I wasn't expecting it and I've never seen one in person before.
@@yeahprobably The beautifully restored MiG-29 was my 2nd favorite but He-111 is such rare bird. Lucky to see the last one still flying (at the time..) many years ago (at a Reading, PA WW2 airshow), met the crew as well. Sadly that aircraft crashed (months later..) and both on board perished in the incident.
An incredible eclectic display of Cold War & immediate post Cold War era display. East Germany being reintegrated post the USSR enabled this great display. I would love a bit more info on their planes on display. A video I will like & share.
Not really. The F2 and later F2a (the museum has an F2a) lightnings were based in Germany during the Cold War with 19 and 92 sqns .The Germans have more F2a's in museums than we British do. If you want to see an F2a in the UK, that is more than just a cockpit section , you have to go to Scotland to see one.
@@dcmchugh99 Enjoyed the story of an extremely fast Lightning that could match the speed of the Concorde and surprised the passengers. This plane is exhibited somewhere in GB, but not flying anymore.
That will be XR749 an F3 also currently in Scotland I believe. Flt Lt Mark Hale flew her at that time and he described the jet as "a hot ship even for a lightning" which is why that aircraft did so well in intercepting Concorde with him as pilot. Usually the F3's by that time were normally used for training and air displays only and the F6's as the operational sqn aircraft. Hale chose this aircraft as "his mount" as it performed well. You can make the jet as it was in 1984 when it intercepted Concorde as an Airfix kit if you buy the old F3 1/72 version 2nd hand .
It is Spandau, and it's more west than Berlin-Mitte, and the same high as Zehlendorf, only in the North. It is in "Westest" Berlin. Have ever been to Berlin?
@@RosiferBJJ : Well, I was born there and still live there, it that's the question. :) Gatow is "in the western part of Berlin", but e.g. "Falkensee is west of Berlin". So, Gatow is still a part of Berlin, and not outside of it - it is not "west of Berlin".
As one of the air traffic controllers who spend the weekend at Gatow just for the duration of the FlyIn (supporting the museums personnel as tdy from other airfields for the fourteenth time now), I thank you very much for sharing the video - I just doesn’t have the time to see the full collection as the air traffic doesn’t permits…. ☺️🫡 Go ahead with your nice work.
Awful old british jets.Junk

Sad to hear about the crash, but at least you got to see it fly.
The mannequin at 5:20 is cranking a small generator to power a radio.
Old Airfield? That's the official museum of the Luftwaffe. Most of the planes are in four huge hangars.
Berlin Gatow....always worth a detour :)

Thank you!
Looks like the Luftwaffe-Museum at Gatow-Airfield.
Yes and with free entry it was very worth the visit.
Yes it is
Nice! Would be even nicer if the names of the planes were written below. A little surprised to see an English Electic Lightning there!
Thanks to this visit to Gatow, we've been lucky to see both Lightnings on display in Germany. The other is at Flugausstellung P. Junior in Hermeskeil.
Even a Sea Hawk....

Gatow is not "west of" Berlin, but actually well within Berlin. Yep, Berlin had actually *three* airports within its city limits.

Some of those aircraft look in a really sorry state - such a shame as it’s a wonderful collection.
We've seen worse, and we've seen better, yeah. The museum relies on donations and revenue from events like this.
👍👍
Some of your comments.....Crack. Me. Up. 🤣
One of our old aussie airforce dc3,s , remember those when in service.

Thank you! We really enjoyed the event and the museum. Everyone did a wonderful job that weekend from what we experienced.
