Thanks a lot! We worked hard to get good shots like that. We filmed episode 2 yesterday and it will have close up shots of even bigger fish rising. A true monster…
Great movie! Looking forward to see more from your adventure at NZ. Also looking forward to get down there in a few days. Maybe we run into each other ;-) Tight lines!
I am enjoying your videos and the effort you putting into showing while your still on holiday- the long lens is great. I was impressed with your casting over the long grass- especially Tuva. Thats not easy when the fish is moving and your waiting for the right moment.
Thanks a lot! Glad to hear you like it! It kind of makes sense to get the video material out there asap. Back home there will be other fish to catch and more videos to be made ☺️
Hi Guys really nice video with some great tight shots of the dry takes, looking forward to the next episode. Enjoy NZ if you put the effort in the rewards are there
"i cant see the fly" hahahhaha, har vært borti my av glemme å trå i en av ringene, feil snelle osv, men aldri feil oppsett på stanga! va synd at det va på den største!
Yeah! Loooots of lots of lots of rivers on New Zealand tho. And some places they just don’t grow that large. In Norway we have many waters where the trout never grow more than 2 pounds. And it’s more wild and natural than this
@@slowrisemedia NZ is basically a perfect mix of climate, pressure and land use for trout fishing also legislative history. So our rivers are great some better than others and not without problems so its complex but basically it comes down to fishing pressure most rivers don't have any pressure and many don't have enough, particularly North Island have far too many fish so they stay small. I struggle to find any rivers that are over fished. The river I live beside is way overstocked for fish so lots and lots of fish from 1Kg down and occasional fish 2 or 3Kg What I call fun sized fish its a "famous" river I rarely see others fishing. but then from a major town or city you would drive past dozens of other rivers just as good to get there. Certainly our river would be better if more people fished it and killed more fish then we would once again have trophy sized fish that in years past made it Famous.
I notice you use Arctic Silver fly rods? Are they all they say they are? If so, how do I get one shipped to New Zealand. Thanks for all the great videos. Well done.
I don’t really know what people say, but they for sure are unique and really good fishing rods. Definitely worth checking out! Pretty sure you can order it on the web page of arctic silver fly fishing. New handles coming soon tho, so the old ones might be on some sort of sale. The new ones will be ready for next season on New Zealand I think! You are welcome! Thanks for the feedback
@rustiefly Thanks for feedback. Their website has very little stock at the moment, which explains pending launch of new handle I guess. I end a day of fishing with painful elbow joints for some reason (probably old age). Hoping this handle may help. Cheers again 👍
It’s Arctic silver fly fishing rods. They are innovative making the rod bend inside the handle. Quite cool when fighting fish, and a smooth casting experience. I can recommend to check out their web page
Hi, I fished the South Island of New Zealand for eleven months and covered all the rivers, lakes and sea shores that I could get to and camped wild. I had to stop at only three camping grounds to make repairs to my camper and to clean up. My best buy was a book called “John Kent's South Island Trout Fishing Guide”. This is a comprehensive guide to the South Island's incomparable trout fishing waters. More than 400 rivers and 150 lakes are described, along with their location, access, fishing season and appropriate techniques and flies. I talked to every person I met on the waters to get information and help. I would also go to a farm house that had access to a river and ask permission to go on to their property. I would often get permission to actually park my camper on the river bank as the people were very kind and helpful. This was many years ago and the kindness I was shown then may not be the same today as the “Freedom Campers” of today have spoiled it for the rest of us anglers. Check out the book as it’s the best guide book on fishing that I have ever used in fifty years of fishing these island paradise. Cheers mate. Harera
Thanks for the book rec. I am moving to the North Island in late 2025. Can you recommend any books for North Island? I have been looking for detailed info on access.
Good times! I spent a month in 19 and want to go back sooo badly I cant stand it. For now, videos will have to do and yours's is a good one!
Thanks a lot for the support! Hope this video series of us trying to learn the New Zealand fishing can help a bit. In the next one we struggle more…
Great filming! Watching the dry fly takes is so much more enjoyable than seeing nymph fishing.👍
Totally agree! It’s oddly satisfying
@@slowrisemedia also highly addictive! (In my old age I find that casting a dry fly is all I want to do, the nymph selection remains untouched.)
Super 👍👍👍
Hi from Ireland. Really enjoyed the video. The closeups of the feeding trout are really good. Looking forward to part 2. Subscribed 👌

Hopefully we get to see you on the river somewhere sometime! Thanks for the kind comment
Great series of videos, it's almost twenty years since I was in NZ and really must head back soon!

Thanks for the comment! In the next episode we fish a little spring lake packet with big challenging fish. We are enjoying it to the max!
Awesome video
Thanks a lot!
Great video, loved the dry fly eats.

Haha, utrolig hva man opplever med Tuva på fisketur 😂
One of my favourite creeks to fish! Beautiful trout there. Did you come across any wild peacocks? 😂
Haha, we saw the feathers! 😂 what an amazing river tho! Really enjoyed it
If only the US could have such pristine trout fisheries! New Zealand is doing something right. Beautiful fish.

Magisk! Kjekt å se dere på tur 🎣👍
Tusen takk! Skal nok bli mere fremover
Fantastisk 🎉😊

Very nice shots. What size rod are you using? Is it the fast action and same weight for dries and nymph?
We use the same for both. 5wt and 6wt rods. Med/fast

How do you dry fly with such wind!?
The New Zealand trout eat dry flies in the most crazy of winds it seems like. You just make 100 casts and hope one lands at the right spot haha
And then when it's not windy, keeping the false cast above chest high grass :)
Nydeligt! :-)
Tusen takk!
Kan æ spørre hvilket kamera dere brukte ?
