I had never seen or heard of Guilfoyle prior to Trump. The first time I saw her I thought she was a joke. She is an extremely odd looking and strange sounding woman, but she does fit in with all the creepiest, creeps that surround Trump!

I have read a book by Hannah Arendt and it was brilliant. She was a German Jewish philosopher who narowly escaped being murdered in a concentration camp and after the war, she examined the causes of what happened. Why did people in her former country tolerate such horrors? She looked into crimes done by other countries and enabled by its populations and asked, what does lead societies to violence.

"We" means "us super privileged people who get money for nothing and already have more than we could ever spend so we don't really have to work anymore" were better off because Trump cut taxes for the rich and did everything he could to make sure they stay rich, privileged and powerful. Nothing the GOP does is for America or its people, it's all for its leaders, and that's why all the Trump haters are now worshiping Trump, because it's the only way they can be part of that club if he wins, and if he doesn't, it doesn't matter if they supported Trump or not anyway.

Under trump, the national debt rose by almost 7.8 trillion during his time in office, third behind Bush who was fighting two foreign conflicts, and Lincoln, who was paying for the Civil War. The interest on this debt alone is staggering, and his tariffs caused a trade war with China and the European Union. He promised to pay down this debt, but he didn't plan on Covid.
Hearing JD Vance railing against _"Corporate Oligarchs"_ , even for a second, when he owes his whole career to them is RIDICULOUS.
I pity anyone who falls for it.

The overwhelming majority of Americans are three (or even fewer!) life-altering freak accidents beyond their control away from being unhoused. People look down on the unhoused as if their personal failings are what led to their homelessness, whereas in reality it is the state of being unhoused that hold them back. They were laughed out of parliament even by the conservative party (who are also quite reactionary). Watching A Closer Look gives me genuine anxiety because it draws attention to the failing state of American politics and that is a tough reality to accept. As well put together as it is, it's a hard watch sometimes.
That's what comedy as its finest can and should be. It makes us receptive to social commentary and opens our hearts to a truth so unvarnished that if we weren't made to laugh we would cry

People I love support Trump. I still love them, but I no longer trust their judgment or ask their advice. I refuse to talk politics with them. There is no point.
I live with Trump supporters. We have strict rules about not discussing politics. It's ironic, because we agree on almost everything... Like universal healthcare/Medicare for all, making lobbying illegal, term limits for Congresspeople, I could keep going. I told them ONCE about how their grandkids won't have foodshare, Medicaid, and Headstart if Trump and Project 2025 have their way, and they call me a conspiracy theorist. There is no point in arguing or trying to find middle ground with someone who is in a cult. I even told them they are in a cult. They will not listen.
We have an exit plan, and once we're out, we'll likely go no contact. I can't trust their judgement, how can I trust them around my impressionable kids? Also, we have serious plans to immigrate. It is not easy, you need a college education in a career that is desirable, plus I have to pass a language test. It's going to be at least 3 years before we will be able to do so. 3 years is a long time under an authoritarian theocracy... I wonder if we would even be allowed to leave by then.
This aspect is very strange. I have aerospace engineers in my family who in all other respects are great for any logical advice. They are great with route cause analysis, thinking in logic trees, cause and effect, ect.
But.
When it cones to trump or conservativism, their face changes and they go into full emotion mode as if I dared to question god.
All understanding of causality, evidence, or rationale flies out the window and they whiplash you into dogmatism.
They are quite religious too, wich ai suspect has at least softened them up to be like this.
Yes, I, and I'm sure many others, are in this situation. But I want my relatives and friends to know how disappointed I am in them.

I used to live in Florida. I was at a neighborhood party and folks were complaining about the economy. Two were business owners. I asked if they were now struggling. “Well, no. My business is doing great, but Americans as a whole…”. “Based upon what metric?” Crickets.
That’s at least better than what I now hear where people say that that the four years under Trump were all rainbows and unicorns but the last 3.5 years have been awful. “2020 was a great year? Really?” No response.
I'm in the same boat in Florida- which is becoming a place I don't want to be anymore. The food and insurance prices are crazy and we feel it. But, that would be the same or worse under Trump. (IMO) I have seen a growth in wages since Biden. That has helped me to stay afloat.
