I watched the entire debate. Katie Porter would have my vote.
Why doesn't California get it together to have a light rail system, or some kind public transit? The traffic and the emissions are just terrible. I know we're not Japan, but can we have a speed rail from LA to SF?
Barbara Lee used to be my congresswoman and she’s incredible. However, I think Katie Porter could get more done and is the future of the Democratic Party. Therefore, I’m voting for Katie.

I have to lean strongly towards Katie Porter simply because she is just a better orator, presenter, and interrogator. We need voices like hers in the Senate.
That, and, more simply, she's a quarter of a *century* younger. At the end of one term, Barbara Lee will just be another octogenarian in Congress. Wish she had her time twenty years ago and we hadn't had Feinstein, but that ship sailed.

The one criticism to Katie Porter about a ceasefire doesn’t make too much sense. I believe she would push for it and vote for it once possible. But it takes more than one to pass which is indeed what makes it hard to actually happen.
You want it immediately but you have everyone else blocking to deal with too.
However, beyond foreign affairs, she is clearly fit, incorruptible, and speech skilled for both winning this and representing us in CA.
Steve Garvey had no business on that stage. The GOP is pitiful.
Lee had a better answer on Middle East, Porter on climate. I have those as the most exigent issues so I'm undecided. Please try for a debate between them.

Vote Porter! She’s the only one with a clear plan to tackle every issues mentioned in debate. I’ve always been a fan of hers. I feel she’s very genuinely care about the people because when she was asked who had inspired her the most, she said her kids. She looks at them and think about what kind of futures she wants them to have. She’s not a career politician. She’s right about Washington not getting things done. I’d give her a chance.

There was an interesting article in the guardian about a pro Israel lobby pouring tons of money into influencing Democratic congressional races to counter growing support for the Palestinian cause within the party.
I am for Katy Porter and or Barbara Lee as well, I will have trouble on the primary, but I lean to Katy because she is young and we have so many old Senators, but I also admire Barbara Lee.
I would love to see Katie Porter bring her white board to the Senate.
Porter was much clearer than Lee. She is in the lead for my vote.
I don't know much about Barbara Lee, but Katie Porter is the only person in all of government that I see who makes me feel like she is representing my interests. To bad she's not in my state, but I think she's good for CA.

I respect Barbara Lee and think she’s much better on foreign policy but she’s in her 70s. IMO Porter seems like the choice. Schiff is insane on national security stuff, civil liberties and foreign policy, and incredibly corrupt. It’s a testament to how horrible the Democratic Party and the liberal donor class that he’s even in contention in a CA primary
I would vote for Katie Porter all day long! She’s the smartest and most determined politician on that stage.

I am a huge Barbra Lee fan. I live in her district and have always been proud of her courageous integrity. That said, Katie Porter seems more likely to actually achieve some action. It might be risky to lose her house district, but my gut says she can carry more water than Barbra. I will take either one over Schiff

I’m sorry but Barbara Lee, while qualified, @77 is too old. It’s like a Feinstein situation in another 4 years, let alone 8. I’m for Katie Porter. Her district is RED & she’s won twice now.

I was actually surprised to see how many military corporations where among the top donors to Schiff. He is my Rep. in Burbank and I used to think more highly of him until I saw the way he reacted to the war on Gaza and looked into his donor base. I hope Porter or Lee win.

Policy wise, I prefer Barbara Lee. But she is 77. Schiff is 63 and Porter is 50. I don't want someone who can't keep up and fight for me. So, Babara, you are and have always been a champ. But I can't vote for you because I don't want another Feinstein. Biden 81 and Trump 77 are both showing mental decline. I'm sorry, but you are too old. And Senators seem to be there until they die.
A ceasefire is not peace! Long term peace vs a ceasefire is like owning vs renting. The mid east needs peace not just a ceasefire.
Sometimes we need to Rent before we can buy!
@@Wicky173 Right. That's worked out so well with the MANY previous ceasefires. A ceasefire is just a pause while both sides contemplate & plan escalations of conflict. An actual peace needs to be achieved.

As a Californian who has been following this race quite closely, I would like to briefly offer my point of view. The first and most important takeaway of this race as a whole is that progressives _really_ need to start working together -- in Congress, of course, but also in elections. (In this respect, I applaud Ro Khanna's decision to not enter the race.) I share Cenk's fear that Barbara Lee and Katie Porter will split the progressive vote, and as a result we may end up with neither advancing to the general election. Ideally, one of them should drop out before Super Tuesday and endorse the other. I personally favor Katie Porter (primarily for her refusal to accept corporate PAC money and her incredible work in the House holding wealthy executives' feet to the fire), but I would gladly vote for either one. My prediction -- pure speculation, but based on my understanding of polling data -- is that if both stay in the race, the odds that Adam Schiff gets sworn in as our next Senator are 75%. If one drops out and endorses the other before March 5th, those odds fall to about 35%. The choice is a no-brainer; everything rides on whether progressives can (finally) get their act together.
It is a "No Brainer", it must be Katie Porter and no retraction! If it is Adam Shiff, then she must run as a Progressive! No Compromise!

I respect Katie Porter a lot. She may not be perfect in every respect but she would one I would like to see as a Democrats' presidential candidate. There are a couple of others but I want them to gain more experience in gongress.

I am planning on voting for Porter, but I LOVED Barbara Lee tonight. Schiff was good, and Garvey stands for nothing, but he wants to be known as a great listener. Smart republicans should vote for their "lesser of 3 evils" of the other 3 rather than voting for Garvey who has no chance to win
Katie Porter takes genuinely progressive positions while presenting them in a manner which can win votes in Kern and Orange Counties. In a run-off against Adam Schiff this factor might be decisive.
Porters position on isreal is a big weakness for her, I’m more for Barbara Lee
I love Barbara Lee's policies, but she is older and also I feel has less chance of winning than Katie Porter. If they both stay in, it will split the progressive vote and Adam Schiff will get in.

Important fact check. Barbara Lee did not "Call for a ceasefire on October 8th" As the moderator incorrectly stated. Rep. Lee signed on to the ceasefire resolution on October 18th. The bill was introduced on October 16th

Katie Porter ruled the debate. You’re absolutely right about Schiff and the big money coming into him! I looked in-depth into his finances and he’s knee deep in with them. I do have concerns about Katie Porter though! Such as her living on campus when she no longer teaches. Yet that a matter to bring up to the regents. Barbara Lee is to me just doesn’t have the whole package. Steve Garvey is what he was, an ex professional ball player. Katie Porter is winning me over! I was an Adam Schiff person because he represents my district. I like where she gets her founding from. Yet I’m still not sure! Time to look deeper into Schiff & Porter!
That is very well thought out, however, I would prefer my candidate to strongly take my position and not that of his "Sponsor", countering the will of his constituents! A Country Ruled By Oligarchs?

Porter is in 40's, Schiff is in 60's and Lee is in 70's. Porter is a better choice for US Senator.

I don't live in CA and can't vote in this race but based on your description here it seems like Barbra Lee is the no brainier. She not just has the right stance she has the right stance before people come to the collective realization that it is correct. I am tired of people that come to the correct position too late, we need leaders. She is a leader.
As much as I respect Barbara Lee, Katie Porter is younger and far more dynamic, she would be streets ahead both as a trailblazer and a leader! Vote Katie Porter!

The reality that CA has the same number of Senators as Wyoming and each of the partisan-divided Dakotas (yep, Republicans cut the territory up in the late 19th century specifically to get two extra Senators) underscores the broken nature of American politics. CA should have 4 Senators, easily, maybe even 5.
I like Porter because she makes righteous noise. And that is my problem with much of the DNC. They are too quiet, stoic, and unexciting---a very 1980s and 90s formuli. That doesn't mean I am in favor of the Populist form of democracy we see from the right today. But, the Democrats need a few members willing to actively call the right out. I don't see Schiff being able to do that, whereas Porter has proven she can. So, Porter is my choice.

Thank you for the relatively unbiased review of the debate, and letting us now where the candidates stood on the various issues. I've been a Porter fan for years, and I'm going to write to her now based on your words to talk to her, as a former legislative assistant to Sen Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts, how she needs to change her stance on Likud violations of international law.
Katie Porter is a person with ethics and character. She doesn't take big donor $ either. So she walks her talk. Adam Schiff has been in office for a while. He works hard for the right causes. I confess I have never looked into his campaign financing. I would still vote for him.
Why would you ever go past a candidate with ethics and character, who walks her talk and won't be bought? Clearly, you don't care if your candidate can be bribed and may overrule voter's wishes when it suits them! I find that illogical and disappointing!

Porter/Lee is dividing the progressive vote needlessly. Porter started this primary as a challenge to Boxer who was refusing to quit, everyone else got in only after Boxer said she wouldn't run again. Porter is who we should consolidate behind, she is by far the best communicator with her whiteboard, and has even won in a district that's competetive and was held by a Republican. Lee is a great progressive, but her age means a limited time in office before were in a situation of having a very old senator again.
