I really enjoy watching your videos and tips and it really aligns what I was taught many decades ago at university and in my own fitness career. As a veteran weight trainer, I agree with your tips about Caroline's workouts and I do adjust to what my goals are. I think although these are Caroline's own workouts. she has a lot of newbies who don't have the knowledge of other experienced people so it's nice for them to have the structure and the range of exercises to just follow along. I loved the iron program as a home workout (I actually haven't been into a gym for two and a half years and the only two machines I miss are the squat rack and cables) and also Beastmode as good straightforward hypertrophy training with straight sets. I'm not as keen on Fuel but I don't mind the variety to mix up training styles but after a little deload week away, I will be coming back to Iron ... and actually increasing my rest periods as I do agree that they are a little short in the programs (but then again that's for time management) :) Really good tips as useful and I hope people do take them on board!

I’ve done iron series twice I just finished this Sunday. This time around I took your advice into consideration (pausing to rest longer, and form changes) and I significantly increased my weights and added more muscle this time around (2lbs) when I had my BODPOD analysis done. I have been working out for the past 25+ years. I am 75 going on 76 and I discovered Caroline's workouts during Covid when I had to abandon the gym. Been through all the workouts she posts at least twice. Finishing up Pyramid now. For me at this age I rest more in between sets. I substitute exercises which I research for things that I know will injure me (hips are tight, one bad shoulder and much less range of motion than I had even 3 years ago) BUT I have never felt physically stronger than I do now. My entire body is conditioned and I use a combination of 8, 10, 12 and 15 lb weights along with kettlebells. I do find the last day of each week challenging. Hit is difficult, but I increase my rest periods and limit the jumping. So all of you out there over 50 start now.

Comment question of the week: i know workout programs are usually 12 weeks long. Is it wise to re-do a 12 week program after you have completed it? Obviously with progressive overload but do you suggest moving on to a different program after 12 weeks? For exercise variation etc. Or if its a solid program focusing on compound lifts, is it cool to keep re-doing that for longer than 12 weeks

    To speak on the breathing:
I actually prefer to inhale on the start of the movement and then exhale as I’m ending the movement. For me I find I brace my core far better when I focus on each breath. Holding my breathe, at the start of the movement, has always made me feel uneasy. Also helps me keep track of reps lol

Thank you for the great video! I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge, your tips make sense and I love watching your content. However, I have one tiny comment regarding your clickbait titles... Even though I totally understand why you use them, I feel that you don't really need them. You have interesting and helpful content and I don't get what are these harmful stuff that Caroline is promoting... But that's just me, I would watch your videos even without the clickbait and it is a bit negative aspect for me.

    • @austinhenshaw2140

      Hello Vera!
In regards to clickbaity titles, this was a topic addressed in a previous video as Comment Question of the Week (check description to skip right to if if you want). ua-cam.com/video/G96bY-3gLXE/v-deo.html
Essentially though, and we have direct evidence to support it through experimenting with other titles, the clickbait titles do better for views and engagement and the UA-cam algorithm does prefer them, however, the titles get framed as a question oftentimes as opposed to outright statements, which encourages people to click and see the outcome. Unfortunately it is a necessary evil and Harry has stated he'd prefer not having to title videos in a certain way, but it is what the algorithm prefers and if the goal is to get information out there, it's unfortunately the way to do it.

Thank you for talking about the Chest Presses! I was wondering about that. I learnt that doing movements that target the chest (like push ups) should never be done with flared elbows like this because you'll hurt your shoulders! I think I always try to stick to the 45 degree angle for chest presses. For push ups (I can only do knee push ups, but I NEARLY mastered a full one FINALLY) I put my elbows way closer towards my body because that's somehow easier.

I have been following her since April 2020 (lockdown 1) and have continued in addition to the gym. I have just been diagnosed with "postural while training , weak serratus anterior/ lower trapezius , = scapular stability lower limb" by my physio. My PT has identified that copying Caroline's arm position on chest press has probably caused this. I've put too much pressure on the shoulder. Removing my sock caused a bang explosive 💣 pain! Rehab exercises and correct form are resolving it. Had to drop from 10kgs to 5kgs though. Will slowly work back up. 💪 Good tip re the rear delt flyes too and the pullover. I won't go so far over now. 😁

I love how she tells about her weights... I normally use 1/3 of that, trying to slowly increase. And of course it's great being able to know the percentage variation she uses indeed. Not doing iron btw... too much for me atm.

Thanks for the tips & good insight👏🏻 Iron is my favourite. However, I think it could be useful instead of the sometimes negative titles you could maybe make a catchy series name that is a bit more neutral and use it for all these types of videos plus similar thumbnails to make it known that its a series on your channel. That way you could also make a playlist of it and mention in the title which program you are actually talking about☺️ Maybe the YT algorithm likes that as well?

      @austinhenshaw2140 2 роки тому +2

      Hello Anina!

I have incorporated some of the methods for shoulders that you have recommended into Caroline’s workouts. OMG! Feels like a more natural movement. For the pullover, I like to perform my pullovers on my bench, shoulders on the bench, lowering the bum as the weight is pulled over, and squeezing the glutes on the way up. Your thoughts?

I'm on round 2 of Iron as I didn't see the results I wanted from round 1 due to having to take week long breaks for travel and illness etc. It actually took me twice as long to complete! So this time I'm doing it when I know I have no interruptions and following a calorie/macro plan as well so lets see if I can get results this time. I only increased my skeletal muscle by 0.1% which is pretty sad lol.

I’ve done all CG’s programs and now I can’t remember what’s the difference between Heat and Iron? :) i’m ready to repeat also so need to choose. I’m not having the muscular increase I would like either so I’m dialing in the diet even more. Just when I think I can’t eat anymore I will be increasing carbs and protein; I always get my fats.

I love that she uses actual numbers for her weight ranges rather than "light, medium, heavy". My "heavy" post rotator cuff surgery was about 3lbs 😆
The only criticism I have of Caroline is she doesn't have a voiceover of each move. I can't see without my glasses and can't see when I fog them up, so I have to get close to the tv during the rest segment to see what's next, then go back to my mat.

Yes I look at the exercise in the description for "complex workouts" as I feel that the no rest and doing 10 reps of two things continuously within two minutes is fatiguing and not in a good way and form can go sloppy and she goes rather quickly and then you would be quite unbalanced as one side may not get to do another round ... I pause a lot and calculate how many sets I do and then add in rest times. I know people love complexes including Caroline but I just can't stand them!
