Best series on UA-cam! Every Sunday night, got earbuds in, phone charged, putting one of 2 kids to sleep and enjoying the hell out of this. Growing up we had a 2 acre pond full of bass, blues, big cats, few large crappie and a pet goose. Skated on during the winter, fishing bets with brothers and dad after a summer dinner and took out several muskrats each year with a 12 ga because they would destroy the banks. Prior to moving to the south, I put a red devil cichlid from our tank in the pond, I laughed when I revisited friends in the area and the family that now lives there said they caught a big orange fish…can’t believe it survived 2 years after throwing him in there. Thanks for sharing this great experience as I’m sure your entire family will enjoy it for years to come!

Big respect to you guys for not only putting your focus on the pond but to all the other animals in the area. Helping them out with food water and a healthier environment that they can thrive in, it will do wonders for the ecosystem.
Have you thought about planting vegetation in the pond for water clarity/filtration? There’s some plants that help with producing oxygen, stopping algae blooms and even toxins in the water. I know one big problem happened when Kelly Slater the surfer built a similar but larger pond for his wave machine and had bacteria problems.
Adding reeds like bullrush is used for filtration a lot over here in the uk and barley straw that releases a natural peroxide ( it releases slowly over months and doesnt harm the fish) and helps keep algae down...I should imagine you would need a fair number of bales for a pond that big and beautiful though..

Yep, now that I see the other footage, definitely gray foxes. Them, the bobcat and coyotes should keep the fields clear of rodents and rabbits. Also, have you thought about using shrubs for erosion control? Like planting some a few (5-15) yards back from the edge of the pond in the highest erosion zones.
I suggest you tie some floats on the rootball, pipe stack tunnel, and other submerged features so you know exactly where they are once the pond is filled.
Also my first instinct would be to run after the hawk and scare it off. It is bad for fowl to get stressed like that. They can’t get away and think they will die.

Ducks aren't exactly the smartest creatures. On top of that though, they have been caged long enough to encounter more than just the hawk, they know that netting will protect them. My chickens hardly care when barn owls and hawks land near the coop

Your gun is digging into my hip
I know this is for fishing and nature and all that, but man... looking at a custom pond and all I can think of is how much fun that would be for an old stand up jetski.
They’re definitely gray foxes. I’ll never understand what the people saying that they’re weasels are seeing. I don’t think they’ve actually seen how small a weasel is before. I hate to say it, but the ducks don’t stand a chance if they are let loose.
Yup. 48 hours max and they'd be goners I think :/
yea those ducks will be gone in a week.
May be a silly question for a “city-slicker”…..why don’t the ducks go up into the “second floor of duck house, especially when attacked??
Ducks aren't exactly the smartest creatures. On top of that though, they have been caged long enough to encounter more than just the hawk, they know that netting will protect them. My chickens hardly care when barn owls and hawks land near the coop
Ducks don't like to climb ramps... especially very narrow ramps - that house is a chicken coop, and a seriously poor design for keeping ducks.
