I stripped a painted dresser. Not all the paint came off using the stripping process, which turned out great. I let the dresser sit for a couple of days and the remaining pair cracked but stayed affixed to the dresser. That gave a great look of distressed texture on the piece. It was not intended, but I loved the look. I did not use chalk paint, but used a base color of brown, and the dry brushed green with white and some gray over the surface creating different shades. I then randomly dry brushed the base color on in random areas. Finally used polyurethane to coat it. The final result was a turquoise color dresser with very uneven color from the white, gray, and brown. The whole process took about two hours not including drying time.
You are such an inspiration, and do such amazing work. You have inspired me to start my own furniture painting business, as well as a UA-cam channel. Thank you so much!!!
Technique vs production value. Thanks for taking the time to show us how to do it. We want to learn how to do it vs how great your video is. No need to apologize for not being a professional video maker. Thanks again. Keep it up
I think you did an amazing job. You should be proud!! It was a really large piece, that looks 1,000 times better after you distressed it. I saw some of the not so nice comments...just jealous. Again, Great job!!
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I watched it a couple times, then attempted my first piece. I just finished 2 end tables, and I'm Super happy!!! Thank you!!!!
Too cute!! Not too rough at all. I want to try this myself. It's kinda funny b/c we take beaten down furniture, paint it and beat it down again. Very cute.
Great Job on the tutorial. Your distressing is perfect. I've been looking for inspirational ideas and have been inspired by the look of your furniture. Wonderful and thank you.
Thank you for the video. It was lovely (and funny with all the sounds - that is real life). I feel ready now to go distress my table! I was too nervous before I watched you do it.
I am not fond of the artificial distressing of furniture. However of all the sites I have looked at, I like yours the most because the technique was there and it was not used in excess. Thank you for the post.
First time using chalk paint on an old window frame. Enjoyed seeing your video, gave me some ideas. Instructions say to use two coats first layer of white. Why? Can I use black or gray paint over it and paint again with the white over the black? Then sand down some of the white paint to let the black come through?
I did my dining table but didn't like the top i used dark wax it just looked like streak marks i even wiped it so im going to try to repaint top and fix it thanks for showing what you did the rest came out great.
I’m working on an old dresser that I was going to throw out. I painted it a light green color, then put a sealant wax over that. Now, I’m going to distress the piece to bring out the natural wood again, then use the stain wax over that for detail. I took the old knobs off, and spray painted them a hammered gold color. Lastly I’ll put another coat of sealant wax on the piece. Then it’s done. Saved myself about 600 bucks for new furniture. Thanks for the tips on distressing the piece with sandpaper...it really gave it a rugged old look that I was trying to get. Enjoyed the video...thanks!
Super excellent How-to Video. I would re-do the video without the background noice of feedback of construction sounds and TV? You definitely know what you are doing. I will be using your helps to finish our kitchen cabinets. Take care.
I think you did a fantastic job! That was a very large piece of furniture to tackle and it turned out great! My only question is did you Clean the dresser( with any water/soap) before you started painting? and if so, what did you use?
BEAUTIFUL!! I have a question. I found a piece on the side of the road.🤗 It’s currently turquoise and black. I want to paint it black and distress it. If I go ahead and paint it black and not sand off the current colors will the turquoise show or will it go to the wood when I distress it?
Hey, thanks for the video! Super helpful! I did have a few questions if you have time? What did you use the knife for when you were doing your first coat? Also how long do you wait between coats for it to dry? And do you need to sand the wood first if it had a high gloss finish on it? Also, will you do a tutorial on how to do a turquoise dresser like this? Or is it the same process with the same dark wax! Thanks in advance!
That dresser looked as if it hadn't been sanded.I would have also done a prime coat.never seen anyone do it like that before.I clean,n samd ans do a prime coat, then after ita painted I take a very light grid sand paper, and go across it to make it look aged the wax will set the paint.you can alway use a wet cloth to distress works just as good
Nicely done. I learned much from the video. Have you every done distressing with 2 different chalk colors instead of brown wood underneath and one color? Secondly, if sold to the public, how do you price out the products? Thank you.
I bought already white distressed furniture. I want to add a touch of light turquoise over it. I still want the white to show through. How would you do that?
Awesome job...Thanks so much for posting. Can you give the names of the paint and wax ...also I want this look on my barn doors that I just installed and the doors are currently bright white. Would I need to paint them a darker color first?
Thanks for making it easy to understand! My question is after you put on the wax and buff it off with the clean rag do you put like a varnish of some sort to seal you're finished product? Or do you just leave it the way it is?
Awesome! I was going to ask the same thing. Glad I checked the comments first. I would wonder if the paint might peel up if not sanded prior to painting. You did a great job. This piece is gorgeous.
@courtney parish. So i have a black painted dresser. I want it to be teal with black underneath. Do I have to repaint the dresser with black chalk paint and then paint with teal? Or can I just add teal chalk paint to the already painted black dresser and wipe it of that way? I have a black satin wax..i planned to just paint it with chalk teal and let it dry..then paint it with the wax and wipe off..does that work?
Looks great!!! Question re different process... When refinishing furniture, painting it white how do get those black specks dots in the paint? I'm not referring to the distressing ... I'm referring both the wood grain and also like little specks in the color of the paint Is there white "stain" paint?
You just took my stress away with DIY distressing. It is BEAUTIFUL ! Thank you !!!

great video, love the green handles.
Greetings from the UK, thank you for sharing.
Great video! Can you use a piece of furniture that is already painted white?
Loved the video. Second morning had a lot of editorial and rag cutting. After the slow start,,,,,,,,great.
I am currently doing a kitchen table, chairs and sideboard. I like your dresser, but did not see any change once the wax was added.

I bought already white distressed furniture. I want to add a touch of light turquoise over it. I still want the white to show through. How would you do that?
Beat up "distress" the piece first. Then do the chalk paint. Then sand and " distress" some more. Then apply the wax 😊
I would have gone blue for hardware, but this looks great! good job!
Hi Courtney will you list the items that you used to distress the dresser so I know what to purchase
I feel I could follow how you distress furniture , thank you
You didn't apply primer, does that help distress it?
Thank you! The piece looks amazing!
Hi! I love what you did to that piece of wood!! Can I use same products on non-wood furniture?
Awesome job...Thanks so much for posting. Can you give the names of the paint and wax ...also I want this look on my barn doors that I just installed and the doors are currently bright white. Would I need to paint them a darker color first?
Great job! Keep it up. I have done a lot of stuff but I could never make a video of it. I will be subscribing so make lts more! Thanks for this one!
WOW! Nice Work. Thank you so much for sharing, I picked up lots good info. :-)
This is a perfect piece for the chalk paint. Great project! Does the wax/paint layered like that cure to hardness in say fourteen days?
I have this high gloss black dresser. Will the chalk paint adhere to it nicely or do I have to do sanding or remove the paint at all?
Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks with us! Will be starting a project soon and your video will be my guide!
I love this I have some chest of drawers to paint and I'm also go to paint a cane hutch I got for free
Awesome work 😀😀😀
Ok, easy to understand. I'm starting on the old cabinets in the garage. I can't ruin those.
Thanks for making it easy to understand! My question is after you put on the wax and buff it off with the clean rag do you put like a varnish of some sort to seal you're finished product? Or do you just leave it the way it is?
Hey! Thanks for the video. Did you sand this piece down prior to the first coat of chalk paint?
Patricia Miller no I only cleaned it with a degreaser
Awesome! I was going to ask the same thing. Glad I checked the comments first. I would wonder if the paint might peel up if not sanded prior to painting.
You did a great job. This piece is gorgeous.
T-shirt!!!! That’s what I’ll use for the wax. Thank you!!
Looks great thank you
Did you paint in the small groves? I am working on my first piece and it has a lot of detail. Hope you see this!! Thanks!
You did an awesome job!! Thank you!!
you did such a good job explaining. thank you
You did a great job!
Love the dresser.. I was wondering after the wax has harden, can I had decals to the piece? Thank you in advance..
Beautiful work
Has anyone got a rocket launcher for that reversing truck?
Fingy@5_1 sorry! I live in a new construction area and due to the size of the project it had to be outside
Ya I was wondering where you live ..lol ..good job thanks ! :O)

What is the purpose of the waxing? I am doing a piece right now and I’ve never done the waxing before
This video was so helpful! Thank you!
thanks! I'll try to do this for my table and chairs.
Hi thank you for tutorial !..so the dark wax that darkens it..also seals in chalkpaint to protect from like stains?
Great job! Do you know that this method will hold up well for a kitchen table?
@courtney parish. So i have a black painted dresser. I want it to be teal with black underneath. Do I have to repaint the dresser with black chalk paint and then paint with teal? Or can I just add teal chalk paint to the already painted black dresser and wipe it of that way? I have a black satin wax..i planned to just paint it with chalk teal and let it dry..then paint it with the wax and wipe off..does that work?
Looks great!!!
Question re different process...
When refinishing furniture, painting it white how do get those black specks dots in the paint? I'm not referring to the distressing ... I'm referring both the wood grain and also like little specks in the color of the paint
Is there white "stain" paint?
