personally i think it is built a little bit too conical to be a proper trumpet - the bore expands too early, starting to increase rapidly at the first bend after the valves - and because of that it sounds as such. It's basically just a baritone that projects way more forward (which is cool i guess) and less tonality in the low range
Not really, there was a considerable amount of straight-bore tubing after the valve section. Having owned two Getzen Eterna bass trumpets (and having built my own bass trumpet), it was a fairly good F bass... not exactly what I was hoping for.
Oh my! My university had one of these buried in storage. I found it when I was in charge of the marching band storage cages. I played baritone for marching, so I took this thing out, cleaned it up a bit, relearned my music, and used it for 4 years, and no one was ever the wiser.
I wonder what would happen if you stuck a horn mouthpiece on it... the bore's not too far off that of a horn so maybe it'd play something like a proper marching horn (instead of the Bb and descant F that's the standard)? Of course, then the cylindrical leadpipe would probably be a much bigger issue.
Jeremy Peplinski I don’t think that would work too well, it would rattle around in the receiver (obviously). I’m thinking a smaller trombone mouthpiece would be optimal in conjunction with a longer leadpipe.
Try tuning the 3rd valve slide so the 1+3 is intune on C. You can check that with playing C in the staff open and then with 1+3. I hope you have more tubing to pull out at the main tuning slide. Cool instrument! I like it and I could maybe play it very well because I play Basstrombone and Eb tuba! Or very bad if it is so close that my lips will be confused with what instrument I play. This instrument should be great for a basstrombonists to use in American marching band because it is in about the same range as a basstrombone.
Could probably ues it anywhere a bass trombone would be used. Would also work in small ensembles, solo work, trumpet ensembles. I played it during a TubaChristmas rehearsal - when I could focus on figuring out which fingering to use in the key of F.
That's definitely a contrabass flugelhorn because the leadpipe is far too short and the tubing gets larger too quickly, and the leadpipe is on the wrong side
@@rawlinsonboy I don't play enough of the small instruments to be clear enough on tuning. Last year, Dr. Deanna Swoboda played it (I'm pretty sure, memory isn't all that great - hence why a lot of odd ball videos) at a TubaChristmas rehearsal and she sounded way better than I did.
Ian, who'd you get this from? Mine played best with a bass trombone or shallow contrabone mouthpiece. I think I sold it, and my Chinese rotary bass trumpet, to a guy in Boston? Cool horn, but the funkiest thing I had played at that time. I wish Carl/Wessex would produce one!
Wendal Williams no, this is a contrabass trumpet in F, DCI uses either GG or Bb instruments and this type of instrument would never be used in those groups anyway.
Chonky trumpet! Jokes apart, it practically is tuned like a contrabass trombone, and because in such a low register notes in such harmonic-rich instruments are a bit muddled, and as such agility isn't a priority, a valved/piston trumpet seems a bit pointless. Tubas have a sweeter, less murky sound and a conical bore, and as such valves make sense; if you want a brighter, more piercing sound, a bass or contrabass trombone will make much more sense than a contrabass trumpet.
This would be considerably less stuffy with fewer bends and a slightly larger bore overall. The Music Instrument Museum in Arizona has the only true contrabass trumpet made by HN White on display. The last time I was there though, they had the bell mounted with the engraving facing down... poor setup.

Between this and a contrabass trombone, I kinda want to make a metalcore/ska hybrid band.

It's a contrabass flugelhorn then
Contrabass cornet
wow that horn has amazing intonation
You're kidding right?
@@Mithosphere Yea I’m being sarcastic.
It’s a marching Baritone in f basically

DJ Xeth I really doubt you had a custom F trumpet in a band storage room...
@@Mithosphere That's fine. Your doubt doesn't make it any less true.
DJ Xeth but the likeliness of having a custom F trumpet (made by Kleinstreuber) is the issue.
DJ Xeth are you sure it wasn’t in G - which is far more likely.
There’s no way you found a custom contrabass trumpet it F. You most likely found a 3 Valve Baritone Bugle in G

Looks almost identical to a marching baritone
Yea, I'm not sure what the base of the instrument was, could have been some sort of baritone bell. But the valves are definitely off a trumpet.
Key word, looks
What's next, Piccolo Tubas?

Filip Hauan Gundersen I sold the instrument a while back, but good points.
That's really sharp.
Yes, I play 30-50 cents sharp on all instruments. I had to have a longer main tuning slide made for my old Holton 345.

JéJa the guy who made it calls it a trumpet, therefore it’s a trumpet.
Me: sees that it’s in F
Also me: WTF
Yea... kinda the same feeling with the trumpet-size bore.
It is sort of like a French Horn if it was shaped like a trumpet.
So a French horn?
The tuning on some of the notes is horrific

sounds very similar to my bass Tbone
sounds like a trombone

Hell no they use Bb and F horns but they're allowing all brass instruments so it could be used but I don't know why they would use it.
Nice Video.
Shame it isn't in Eb....
I didn't know amish people could play instruments like that. Cool that you can.
Basically a really small tuba
Hi! Do you still own this horn? Would you be willing to sell it? :-)
Leanne Kleinsteuber no, sold it not longer after making this video. Didn’t quite fit with what I needed. Nice trumpet though
Thanks for getting back to me. You don't happen to know who you sold it to?

If ur telling me that’s not a marching baritone then idk what is
SavageBeast LB it’s not a matching baritone. It more or less a trumpet in F at about 12.5 feet long compared to a B-flat trumpet of about 4.5 feet
I found the cimbasso’s (3 valve contrabass trombone) cousin, the contrabass trumpet. 😂😂😅😅
