    A lady underwent a neck lift 4 months ago and doesn’t like the results so far. There is indiscreet swelling on the sides of her face and sagging of the platysmal bands. She was advised to wait 1 year before having revision surgery, but she doesn’t think she can wait that long. She wants to know if she can revise safely in 6-7 months.
    New York oculoplastic and reconstructive surgeon Amiya Prasad, M.D. reviews her concerns in this video, and explains how it is not advisable to do revision surgery when significant swelling is still present, and talks about the possibility of improving the appearance of scars with PRP, steroid injections, and laser treatment, and the differences of neck lifts, facelifts, and a limited face lift:
    2:18 - Dr. Prasad details his background training in cosmetic oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as his experience as a face and neck rejuvenation specialist
    3:20 - How there is no benefit to operating on tissue that is still swollen and healing
    3:42 - How the healing process can take as long as a year to resolve
    4:14 - Dr. Prasad shares a successful case wherein he performed upper and lower eyelid surgery and face and neck lift on a patient 10 days before a big event, but getting good looking results this quickly is generally not something to expect
    4:53 - How a tingling sensation can be a sign that nerves and are beginning to heal and swelling is resolving
    5:14 - Dr. Prasad explains why it can be beneficial to place incisions in front of the ears
    5:50 - How steroid injections and specific lasers can address redness and scar thickening
    6:16 - The role of PRP , and possibly PRP and extracellular matrix in improving scars
    6:44 - When too much skin is removed during a facelift, revision surgery can be difficult.
    7:14 - How bulging and sagging plastysmal bands could indicate that a limited facelift was performed, and not a face and neck lift
    7:55 - The importance of understanding your surgeon’s expertise, and clarifying what type of procedure was performed
    9:06 - How other lifestyle habits like smoking, medical issues like diabetes, and complications during or after surgery can affect healing
    9:39 - Dr. Prasad’s recommendation
    10:19 - How a certain amount of tissue relaxation occurs after any face or neck lift procedure

    Does the Lightstim home device FDA approved ( Red & Infrared lights therapy) help to heal from swollen, numbness and some lumps post deplane facelift?

      Hi M E London!
      A home light/thermal device isn't likely to help with your facelift recovery. I suggest you continue following your surgeon's aftercare device. The symptoms you describe sound like they are normal for facelift recovery. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi Doc. I am 4 weeks out from lower face and neck lift today. While my results are very good I do wish the neck was just a tiny bit tighter. I will discuss this with my doc during my follow up appt a few weeks. I value your opinion so can your tell me is what I see at 4 weeks recovery , what it get? I still have swelling of course but praying for a shrink wrap effect lol. She did Lipo as well. Thoughts? Am I done with full results and if so what is a safe way to take care of the problem?

      Hi Pamekay,
      I can't really give a proper second opinion without knowing details of your surgery, or examining your face. You are still quite early in your recovery, so there is still a lot of time for swelling to resolve. Keep in mind that surgeons can't overtighten the skin to the point where movement is restricted, and normal face and neck movement can undo some of the surgical work. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Emilio :],
      Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope you understand that I would have to physically examine your condition, and review the medical records of your surgery before making any specific recommendations. I hope this helps you.

    I had a face and neck lift 10 days ago and my neck us still sore especially one side? Feels like nerve pain. Have you ever heard of nerve damage after a facelift?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  Рік тому +1

      Hi Ashley Smith,
      While everything is done to avoid nerve injuries during a facelift, it can happen, and pain sensations after surgery may also be due to nerve regeneration after surgery. I suggest you follow up with your surgeon for a proper examination, and diagnosis of your issue. I hope this helps you.

    Do you recommend lymphatic drainage massage after a facelift?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi @mariaRamirez-bx2ev,
      Drains are not needed when the facelift is done with local anesthesia, and LITE IV sedation, and our patients can actually go home on the same day of surgery to recover. You can refer to this more recent video about it - ua-cam.com/video/J1dNVKrffjc/v-deo.html

    Hi Dr! I'm 39 and was wondering if there should be big lumps and bumps and swelling after three weeks with lack of angle due to platysma. I had the corset method done. I look awful from the side. Most sites online say the swelling should be almost resolved after two or three weeks. Is this correct? Should I be worried?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому +3

      Hi StarSpun Enterprises,
      Sorry to hear about that. It is within normal range to still have swelling 3 weeks after your procedure as it takes about a month for most swelling to resolve as collagen is still disorganized. Have you followed up with your surgeon recently?

    • @CatherineHoustonJackson
      @CatherineHoustonJackson 5 років тому

      @@AmiyaPrasadMD thanks for the info and reassurance. The pictures I send go to the nurse and not to the doctor, and she says it's normal. I've made an appointment to go in so he can have a look and feel if things are ok, its just quite far for me to drive but I want to make sure! I had a weekend necklift before which turned out awful, so he had a lot of scar tissue to deal with. Hopefully that doesn't impact the result. I am in a wedding in mid August and I'm kind of freaking out about it! I've seen other people at three weeks and they look amazing. I don't have the angle he said I would have, it's more of a curve under there. I expect the chin to swell but the curve is what worries me most, unless platysma muscles swell as well?! Thanks again!

      You're welcome, StarSpun Enterprises! I can't really give further advice without seeing it, but I hope you get reassurance from your surgeon before the wedding you are attending.

      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 роки тому +1

      Hi world s,
      Sorry to hear that, but I can't diagnose your condition based on a short description. If the swelling and itching happened after surgery, I suggest you see your surgeon. If it occurred without a previous procedure, I suggest you see a doctor who can examine your face for a proper diagnosis of your problem, before you consider treatment. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Bertha Palomo,
      Sorry to hear that, but your face should not be stiff and bumpy. You should ask your surgeon about this because I don't know the details of your face or how your surgery was performed. I hope this helps you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому

      Hi Rhonda Rose,
      Sutures are removed about a week after surgery, so it is safe to fly then, if there are no other issues with healing progression. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi@@Nidhi.anonymous,
      Appearance of scars depends on how your surgery was performed, and how aftercare was handled after surgery, so you need to be asking your surgeon this question. I hope this helps you.
