Dustin Dunnill you help people see/understand how those devices will behave in extreme conditions... which should reduce a lot the number of flyaways...
Your videos are very long, but you are explaining why/how you proceed and it is very didactic... actually they are not long at all, they are filled with knowledge, good practices, nice experiments which made them very interesting. Simple advices to always going away against the winds, or to avoid WiFi interferences from populated areas have probably avoided hundreds of dangerous situations... they made me fly my own Disco (first thing I fly besides planes) safely enough to avoid losing it or endanger anyone, while enjoying the actual pleasure of the freedom you feel while flying...

That was awesome! You flew over 3 miles out and back, expended 100% of your charge and made it back to within 50 feet of your start. Couldn't have done much better!

Pretty impressive. That it made it back to its home location after 6+ miles and got to within a few feet is amazing.
I almost had a heart attack when the drone came too close to power cables at the end.

If you have tail wind on return trip I highly disagree, its calculations are based on zero wind, not calculating head or tail wind. A safety margin is programmed for a light headwind back to home when 67%is reached on battery remaining.
That's the best part of doing anything with RC's - car, planes, and drones. Some random quest giver always shows up just when you're in the middle of needing to stay focused.
This was more gripping than a lot of movies that I've seen lately. Great stuff man.
I'll watch this over a movie any day.
I've got to admit, that was nerve racking... I was like yelling at the screen (stop moving the camera you're wasting energy!) and somehow you pulled it off.... pretty amazing.....
Moving the camera would probably be the least power consuming part.

@@kerigancreighton2351 When one is trying to conserve power and squeeze every micro bit of juice left, then you dont use power systems. I too was scream. Don't use the gimble, stop recording, and dont push the motors. every bit of juice counts

I ordered my mini a couple of days ago, it still hasn’t arrived, but after watching this video I’m freakin stoked!!
Have to admit, I was chewing my own nails watching your Mavic dive in just over those power lines... but then that crash aaaahhh! So surprised absolutely no damage, and pushed the envelope past 4 kms (I'm over hear in Ontario Canada so we're stuck with metric, but ya my stock DJI Mavic Mini user manual states it'll fly out to 4 kms (or) 2.48 miles, you managed 5.48 kms (or) 3.4 miles! Well done, great flight path chosen, absolutely no cross roads or dwellings, overall a 5-star video IMO. Five thumbs up bud!
PS: I do have one suggestion however, not sure if the RTH mode was part of your distance test, but cancelling it out using the round red X icon on your mobile screen and manually RTH would stop that annoying beeping you'd mentioned, also you might have used that same red X icon to cancel the forced landing mode I believe (it still would've crashed mind you) but the close call with the power lines may have been avoided. All in all still AWESOME work, well done!

I crashed my mini into a tree at 29 meters high (95 feet). The only thing that broke was 1 of the 4 arms. Everything else was fine. They are very resilient small things (probably because of the light weight).
Holy shit dude that drone is incredible, it went more then 3 miles out and was able to return just off a full charge, god damn that’s a 6 mile trip

I have been looking for an entry-level drone and wondered about range even though my intended use would be much shorter, you convinced me I have nothing to worry about. For the price and image quality, I don't see anyone beating the Mini for a while. As a pilot of general aviation aircraft, it comes with the territory to have range anxiety. It brings back memories, I used to have a house on the water's edge in Makena in the 1980s. My home was on the northern California coast and did not get back to Maui often enough to justify the cost of it sitting unused 90% of the time. Now I live in St Petersburg Russia, a beautiful city that is perfect for drone footage.

Yes, but only the "FCC-model", how it's sold in the US. In most other continents they follow different regulations and send with less power, for example the model sold in most European countries goes considerably less far.

The gimbal uses just as much power to hold its position and counter the motion of the drone. Moving the camera will not make any difference.

@@LifeOfAbhishekDholiya you are flying too low si signals are not allowing you to go farther, get your drone to at least 200ft of the floor to avoid wifi signals interferences.

Great test. Lot of interesting info gained. I was so stressed after the third time you ignored rth and went for 18000. DJI makes great products. Crashed my Spark on its second flight. It fell 25 or 30 feet to the ground. Only problem was a sliced prop. Love DJI.

That was an awesome flight. I just got my Mini a couple of weeks ago and I was nervous doing a 3600 foot flight the other day. Now I have no worries.
That was a pretty amazing nail-biter of a flight! I've only managed to get about 1800 feet with range in an urban setting, but when it's got a clean signal, apparently it's a really impressive device!

Boy, you sure made it exciting! "The Force was with you" for sure on that flight. You couldn't get any luckier. Perhaps if you'd turned off the video on the way back, it might have not been as close. Well, I think that is probably the best 'range test' video on line for the Mavic Mini. Those 18650 batteries are ubiquitous and cheap, so it you flattened that pack, I'll bet you could cut it open with a 'hot exacto knife' and replace the cells. Anyway, glad you made it back ... thanks for the video. Mahalo!

Ok been nine months, did you make that purchase? I bought a mini last fall ( my first) and have been flying in -15 degree weather, high winds, over ice,snow and now water and have had no issues. 70 km flight distance logged already NO issues (other than a prop overspeed warning that was fixed by replacing a warped prop from storage I believe). BUY THIS DRONE.
Maui is a beautiful Island, never realized how arid an desert like it is, great video ,Thanks.
It all depends on where you are - West and north is all mountains and rainforest - backside of Maui mountains is what you saw - pretty arid.
