Thank you for putting this out there. Your explanations were helpful and remembering the camera is always difficult. I just bought a 2003 Crest Pontoon that came with the 115hp model of this engine. It is difficult to find any videos for the early 2000s Johnson 2-strokes. Please post more of your projects.
Thanks Jonas! I’m glad you found this helpful! I do plan to make more content. I have bought an amazing mount for a 10hp Johnson Kicker motor I have and will show installation of that. I also have a new trolling motor to install on it. I did a VRO delete but I didn’t film it, which I regret but I’ll make a video showing what I did. Thanks again!
Pro tip: if you have warped bowls, get a piece of 200grit sandpaper & stick it on a flat pane of glass & sand the bowls flat. This only works if they're not too badly warped. Has worked for me many, many times. Good luck & tight lines!
I should have paid closer attention to your video. When I attempt this weekend the Torx Plus security screw stopped me in my tracks! Thanks for documenting this.
Hi great showing step by step sow and steady always wins! Unfortunately I have done this procedure way to many times on my 1993 150. I always put my needle piston as yours were on the back side . Next time I will see if the reverse works better. The only thing I would recommend is not use alcohol that’s the main problem with the warping of the bowls. Best to use carb cleaner.
Second note I have always connected the piston on the float as you found yours next time I will try your way as indicated in the manual. Too always read the manual do not put it back the way you found it that could be the problem. It is unfortunate to learn the hard way at 68 lol that’s the road I took for many years it is much easier guys share what they have found that works Great job
Hi great job showing how to do this step by step. Unfortunately I have done this procedure many times on my 1993 150. The ethanol (Alcohol) in the gas is the cause of the Warpage of the bowls, Best results is clean with carb cleaner
Thanks Ken. Ya, I bought this motor second hand and the previous owner used ethanol fuel it’s entire life so you may be right about the warping die to ethanol. Luckily I have 1 station here in town that has non-ethanol. But of course it’s premium grade and $1.00 more per gallon. But cheaper than the problems I’d have continuing to use ethanol I think.
I was rebuilding one of mine when I noticed the thin brass idle-circuit pickup tube on the carb body that sits down in the bowl chamber had a hairline crack running the length of it. What kind of effect do you believe this will have on the idle mixture, lean or rich?

Yep, it did me as well at first. I couldn’t find anything local so I had to order on eBay. FYI, you need the same tool to adjust the air fuel screw.

Just found all 6 bowls are cracked in the same place on my 1998 150
Hey, thanks for great video and details. Where did you get those rebuilt kit ?
Got them on ebay. Just be sure to get the OEM Johnson kit, not a cheap aftermarket one. The cheap ones gaskets don’t hold up.
The seller I got from is marinediscountparts and if you have the same carbs as me the kit part number is 438996
If you need the fuel bowls the part number is 433000
@@understandthepeaches1025 I got a cheap sets and the quality is crap vs OEM. Now I only buy OEM. Save times and headaches! Thank you!
@@Art_Of_The_Gent_Official you bet thanks for watching!
Hi. do you remember the size etched in thr side of the iad boal jets?

My thought would be Rich, drawing too much fuel. But I’m not 100% sure.
What was the float bowl numbers I gotta replace mine thank you
On eBay type in 264096541324
it s just bad gasket, chinese gasket, the same i found in my carbs on a 115hp johnson 1994.
