    Thanks for another great video! Those Manga Maker Page Template sets are such a great idea and a helpful resource. Pacing is an important consideration for panel and page layout, and grids can sometimes be a crutch but they also can help in establishing a rhythm. Junji Ito is one of my favorite manga creators for this reason. He’s a master of the page turn!

    • @MonitorComics

      Thanks for taking the time to watch Devin! I wasn't sure how the templates would be received, but a bunch of people have purchased them already! I'm hoping they will end up being useful!! Junji Ito is definitely a GREAT CHOICE, he isn't the face of horror manga for nothing! Page turns and building anticipation is HUGE in the horror genre and he handles it well with his panel layouts! I've heard people say it's hard to make novels and comics "scary" since horror films are able to use loud sounds, lighting, and jumpscares, but Junji Ito does a good job making the most with what he has!

    Thank you for making this. I'm currently writing my first non-hentai doujin. This will CERTAINLY help with articulating to any future Shonen Artist (HINT HINT IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED) the layout and design of the pages. I'm used to doing no more than 4 panels per page, I know I should push a little more with 5 or 6 but I don't like scenes drawing out longer than they have to be. After this video, I have gone back and, I believe, fixed some things in my comic so that it'll improve. I'm not doing double-page spreads at first, but I do know full-page spreads are important. If my artist thinks something should be a double spread, I'll listen to them. But again, thank you so much. You've been greatly aiding me with my process of becoming a main stream comic writer.

    Very informative video. I purchased two of your sets! I am writing a script but am not an artist. I will eventually hire and partner with an artist. Is page composition/panel layout a decision that the writer will need to make and instruct to the artist? Or are artists better equipped make those decisions?

    • @MonitorComics
      @MonitorComics  7 місяців тому +1

      Thank you so much for taking the time to check out this video and purchase one of the sets! I really appreciate it!!!
      To answer your question, it depends on the pair. Since you're the writer, if you have a certain idea of how you want the layouts to look, then you could instruct your artist to try and match it. For example if you have a favorite comic and you like how the pages look it might be helpful to tell your artist "i like how big they drew the character here" or "I like how big the background panel is here"
      On the opposite end, I have seen pairs where the writer gives the artist full freedom. The artist will read the script and do their own interpretation of it. The only thing with that is, it might not be exactly what you envisioned, so a little guidance never hurts
      For example, your artist might draw the background in a small square panel when you imagined it as a two page spread. That's something where more communication might help! You could also ask them for their own ideas for what they might think is cool!

      The best advice I can give you is to think of it like watching a movie. There are shots that are wide, close ups, dramatic lighting, etc. It's the same with comics, there are a lot of overlaps. Once you understand the patterns of paneling (close up is usually dramatic, wide shots are often used to show locations, etc) it becomes easier to experiment!

      I see! I don't think the content matter is the issue, I like the concept! Maybe it's the execution. Every story should have a clear beginning middle and end. You should have an exposition shot in the beginning to set the scene and introduce your world to your reader. If a reader is struggling to understand something, then maybe it wasn't made clear enough. My advice would be to put yourself in the shoes of someone who has no idea what your story is about, so you need to spoonfeed them information like they are a child.
      The artwork should also be as clear as possible so they are able to follow along without being confused about what they are looking at! You don't need "amazing art," there are a lot of mangaka who have done well with "bad art." It's just about how easy it is to understand what the characters are doing@@user-mb4pd4ou5i
