This video was very helpful, but I think you might have misssused the term "One shot". A oneshot or Yomikiri, is a finished story that takes place in one sigle tome (two at max) they're shrot stories with a begining and an end. It's true that the plots for this oneshots might later be used as a guide to create a full fledged , multi-chaptered story, but the thing is they stand on their own, they don't need a continuation. Your video was mostly a "How to make a first chapter for your manga" video, which again IS super helpful, but I found it a bit misleading and not what I was looking out for. I'll be sure to take it into consideration once i decide to make an episodic manga however, good job.
Thanks a lot! Sorry it was misleading! I think you're right and I'm right hahaha "In the Japanese manga industry, one-shots are called yomikiri (読み切り), a term which implies that the comic is presented in its entirety without any continuation. One-shot manga are often written for contests, and sometimes later developed into a full-length series, much like a television pilot". I see it as that One Piece, Naruto and My Hero Academia's first chapters are all one shots they are all self-contained stories with a beginning, middle and end. Hence why they are much longer than their regular chapters and could easily stand alone as single stories with no contiuation. Haha I've been reading lots of one shots recently that have had no serialisation but they end with the promise of more chapters to come. But obviously One Piece, Naruto and My Hero Academia all become serialised haha but I hope the video still helped a little for a non-serialised One Shot! :D
@sdpad1899 I know this video is a year old lol, but maybe replacing the word "one-shot" with "First Chapter" would be much less misleading, and also likely be better for engagement, and not everyone knows what a ine-shit is in the first place.

All good advice, I'll also add that you should add an opening that would make it possible to turn it into a full series, should that particular one prove popular with the audience.
This is so good! I'll keep it saved to go back to it. I felt relieved when you said this sort of formula doesn't apply to many stories, because looking at the one I'm making right now it lacks most of these points. I was thinking "I just made a shit first chapter didn't I?" lol
Hahaha no! You didn't make a shit first chapter! Yeah this one is very specific to a Shonen style first chapter haha but there are even different Shonen mangas that don't even follow this one. It's just something I noticed that helped me out. I made another video recently about making another first chapter and instead of looking at internal + external problems it just focuses on plot haha. Good luck on your first chapter! Send me a link once it's finished!

@@sdpad1899 It would have cartoony style like how Spider-Verse or Puss in Boots: The Last Wish did. With some sprinkles of anime. Or something like that
@@sdpad1899 And this is a idea I have. After being inspired by My Hero Academia. I came up with a idea somewhat similar (kinda) to MHA (Well, with the superheros and supervillians society) & One Piece (In term of world-building) & finally Dragon Balls (In term of having the characters go against LITERALLY GODS). Only except it expands across the entire Universe & Multiverse that where the characters existed. And only 10% of those with Bio-Mutation Powers existed across the entire universe and the other 10% are Magic Users/Those with spirit energy/Demons Power/Aliens and etc. And the Planet they lived in. Is actually all the planets in our real life solar system (Neptune, Saturn, Mars etc.) squished and combined into "Planet Gaia" left by the Omni-Presence Beings as the "Celestial" and taking place 11 Millions Years into the future where Humans or Aliens can travel to another planets and be in peace or doing their jobs and etc. Let me know what you think about.
This is a great way to start a one-shot easily, like this a begginer's starter pack imo! (But there are still great ways out there, but this is like the foundation you will need to progress as a begginer!) How can you use it? Just follow it for a *long period* of time, because there's no tutorial that will make a one-shot for you, only if you take the actions. (MANN, YOU HELPED ME A LOT, BLESS YOUU!)

Nice exploration. There are some issues in spelling and presenting the quoted words. At 13:05 "Theme is a posited" -- /`pozitted/, not /poizd/. "Posited" means an assumed fact, a given. The quote is wrong also, it should be "A theory is posited" -- also the correct grammar, it's an adjective, so no "a". Then "is a static given" -- "static" not "statistic". And finally misspelling, in the original quote "It's a premise to be explored", not "premised".
Note to future self to review all the spelling in the future and pronunciation in the recording hahaha but thanks for the feedback I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I will work harder!!!
Thanks so much! Yeah I've been working on another video just the editing scares me haha but this summer holiday I'm going to bang it out. I don't know if it will be as good but it helped me with my manga so I think it's got some good points haha! Thanks I will keep going!
@@whatsuplyrics5913 wow thanks so much for the feedback! Yeah that’s actually on my list of videos to make as this is something I struggle with too! Haha
It's like a progression, so firstly you pick a theme and then create a question from the theme and then answer that question with a conclusion though that conclusion doesn't need to be a black and white answer it can be more nuanced. So simply it just these steps: Pick a theme > Ask a question > Reach your own conclusion. Hope this helps :D
I think, *Hero academia's setup is more brilliant for this writing style than you think* , Let me explain by adding couple of my observations. Theme: Heroism Dramatic Question: Can a Quirkless Person Become a Hero? Answer: Yes! Because Heroes is are define by the qualities someone have, not by strength. If you lay out these qualities, these are; brave in the face danger, reckless, impulsive, ready to help out for a friend in need, fight for justice even for his hater if needed, don't give up easily, Humble, morally good. and of course somebody who says "My body move, before i can think" when it comes to saving someone. ( So, This is the (ending) truth, you characters will reach at the end (this exact answer), Now, to make it a story you just need to start far away from the truth to make the change more dramatic and interesting for the readers, but don't force it, starting with main character knowing and believing the truth while everyone else believes the lie is also a good setup) Character who will explore the question and reach answers : 1, Deku, a quirk less character but all the above mention Hero's qualities, ( He knows the answer, but need external validation) Deku will just a positive change arc with validation as a center, or ( he believes the truth, while everyone else believes the lie arc) He will begin by doubting his future ( will my hard work will be rewarded?, can I become a hero?). ----------------- Then. Will see his inspiration All might and jump on the chance to get the (answer) validation -------- Get's a disappointed answer and Give up on the idea,------ but when his childhood friend get in danger he jump in save him ----- This action will change all might mind, he will make an exception for deku----- "You Can Become a Hero" 2, All might, Mentor character that will reach the truth, regain his spirit for being symbol of peace a little more and then help, Deku reach the truth. Reasoing: it not deku going though the change but All might, as he is the only one who can validate the answer for deku! Cause he is inspiration behind his dream. So, All might will have lie the character believes to Truth arc! So, He will start the story Weak and with limited power-------- He is disillusioned with his hero life------------ then a young kid, get in his way and ask is it possible for someone powerless to become a hero--------------- Remembering his wounds, he wll answer No ( show his wound ) and leaves feeling bad------ later, he Then encounter a situation where a monster has taken a kid hostage, however find himself unable to transform to help ( he is mentally burn out) -------------- Then, with the action of the same powerless boy from earlier, he will be remind what it truly means to be a hero ( its not superpowers but spirit) ----------- get over himself and transform to defeat the monster -------- at the end change his answer just for deku, find him and tell him personally, "You Can Become a Hero" Combines all together, and throw in some side character for more world building and impact, and you have the First Chapter of My Hero Academia. Hopes it helps someone You

That's a good way to write out the story in a novel format as you can visualise it and if you want it to be a novel then that's great! If you want it to be a manga you can always pay for an illustrator to draw your novel!
Thanks for this video l really needed it. I never analysed manga like this l thought mangaka just write whatever they want from this super brain. But, now l know. Better read some manga and analyse them. Thank you
Yeah I thought the same thing too haha! Just read your favourite manga and analyse why you personally like it and learn from it to improve your own stories. Glad I could help in anyway in your journey! :D
Yeah it's up to you! I was just making a video showing the similarities between these three shonen manga but I think like Black Clover and Hunter X Hunter also just have one or two paged prologues to set the context of the world. If you think 10 pages is worthy for your story then go for it! Just be critical of your work and ask yourself could I condense my manga's prologue to 6 pages maybe 4 pages? I think my own prologue maybe longer than 1 or 2 pages as I've realised it fits my story better too. Do what you think is the best for the story :D
@@kevinbanal4488 yeah exactly.. but I got confused when I read the one shot of the manga bleach which is pretty close to the main series.. I mean, it feels like the first chapter of the entire/main manga story!
Hey, I'm not 100% sure but basically I thought a One-Shot is usually like a pilot episode in TV terms. Usually a publishing manga like Shonen Jump will put out One-Shots out in that weeks issue and if it gets enough votes back from the readership then they'll start to serialize it. It would be like Breaking Bad's first episode, the opening episode has a beginning, middle and end. If get's good traction then they'll start to do more episodes :D Usually as well a one-shot will have more pages and attempt to show the stories themes, power systems, world building and characters. Sorry I actually wrote this in the video and was going to make it but I didn't know where to put it haha. My bad, there's this cool video you could watch that I like that goes into how to write a pilot episode: ua-cam.com/video/sbMgYMY9Ryw/v-deo.html
MASHLE: 'muscle over magic', embodiment Mashle Burndead, thinks he can savely live with gramps, does not know anything about the magic society DEMON SLAYER: 'how far would you go to save your sister', embodiment Kamado Tanjiro, thinks he could keep his sister save, does not know about demon (slayers) You don't need an one-page prologue. Nobody said you need it on page one. Make it exciting for people to get involved.

Ahhhhh yeah, I actually made this video and then didn't look at my this channel for 3 months, so this message has really given me the encouragement to make more! :D
You don't know how much hope you have given me by breaking down the fact that anyone can Wright, Thank you
That's such a lovely thing to say! I'm glad I made this video then and yeah you can do it bro!
Hey brother, Good points. I am writing a manga of my own and hoping to take the anime world by storm. Thank you.
Thanks! Send me a link to your manga when it's done!
Thank you so much, I wanted to make my first One-Shot and this will help me so much
Awesome I'm glad I could help! :D
All good advice, I'll also add that you should add an opening that would make it possible to turn it into a full series, should that particular one prove popular with the audience.
I am over here taking notes like I am back in school 😂😂
Hahaha that's awesome!
Damn bro me toooo
Btw did you manage to create one of these ?
i like all these questions. I find them to be quite useful for own series. Thank you!
I'm glad I could help! :D
@@sdpad1899it will be some time until it's posted because I want a lot of chapters already done to ensure consistent uploads. I was going fast with the script and made it till chapter 17, but drawing takes LONGGG.
Thanks for being interested, it encourages me to keep going lol. Do you have comics of your own posted online?
@@buira9482 I've been making and then scrapping lots of manga chapters. I wanted to make a series but realised how time consuming it would be to do that so instead I'm going to try and make a short collection of one-shots and then start posting them online. I'm currently working on one at the moment.
Yeah of course, send me a link once you've completed it! I'll send you a link to mine once It's done :D

Maybe or not. I plan to make a manga/or comic of a story. But I do plan on making a video game of the story I wish to tell. Anyway thank you for making this video. I learn a lot here. Thank You.
Thank you for the great feedback! Let me know when you make the game or comic I'd love to play or read it :D
@@sdpad1899 I will

@@coolrod15thecoolest24 That sounds cool I love that new art style alot! :D
Thanks as someone who also wants to make manga, this gives me the direction I should start in

This is a great way to start a one-shot easily, like this a begginer's starter pack imo!
(But there are still great ways out there, but this is like the foundation you will need to progress as a begginer!)
How can you use it? Just follow it for a *long period* of time, because there's no tutorial that will make a one-shot for you, only if you take the actions.
(MANN, YOU HELPED ME A LOT, BLESS YOUU!)

Oh wow thanks for the high praise! Yeah I'll start to complete my 2nd video :D
really cool video!
Thanks so much, I hope to make more haha
Nice exploration. There are some issues in spelling and presenting the quoted words. At 13:05 "Theme is a posited" -- /`pozitted/, not /poizd/. "Posited" means an assumed fact, a given. The quote is wrong also, it should be "A theory is posited" -- also the correct grammar, it's an adjective, so no "a". Then "is a static given" -- "static" not "statistic". And finally misspelling, in the original quote "It's a premise to be explored", not "premised".
Yeah I realised that afterwards hahaha I think I wrote a note in the video for one of those haha
Note to future self to review all the spelling in the future and pronunciation in the recording hahaha but thanks for the feedback I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I will work harder!!!
This is extremely insightful and helpful, thank you!! 💕

20:51 That exact quote also says in a theme a conclusion is reached, so which is it?
It's like a progression, so firstly you pick a theme and then create a question from the theme and then answer that question with a conclusion though that conclusion doesn't need to be a black and white answer it can be more nuanced. So simply it just these steps: Pick a theme > Ask a question > Reach your own conclusion. Hope this helps :D
this was such a great video
Thanks so much!!! :D
Great video brother
Thanks so much bro!

شكرا جزيلا ❤
I think, *Hero academia's setup is more brilliant for this writing style than you think* , Let me explain by adding couple of my observations.
Theme: Heroism
Dramatic Question: Can a Quirkless Person Become a Hero?
Answer: Yes! Because Heroes is are define by the qualities someone have, not by strength. If you lay out these qualities, these are; brave in the face danger, reckless, impulsive, ready to help out for a friend in need, fight for justice even for his hater if needed, don't give up easily, Humble, morally good. and of course somebody who says "My body move, before i can think" when it comes to saving someone.
( So, This is the (ending) truth, you characters will reach at the end (this exact answer), Now, to make it a story you just need to start far away from the truth to make the change more dramatic and interesting for the readers, but don't force it, starting with main character knowing and believing the truth while everyone else believes the lie is also a good setup)
Character who will explore the question and reach answers :
1, Deku, a quirk less character but all the above mention Hero's qualities, ( He knows the answer, but need external validation)
Deku will just a positive change arc with validation as a center, or ( he believes the truth, while everyone else believes the lie arc)
He will begin by doubting his future ( will my hard work will be rewarded?, can I become a hero?). ----------------- Then. Will see his inspiration All might and jump on the chance to get the (answer) validation -------- Get's a disappointed answer and Give up on the idea,------ but when his childhood friend get in danger he jump in save him ----- This action will change all might mind, he will make an exception for deku----- "You Can Become a Hero"
2, All might, Mentor character that will reach the truth, regain his spirit for being symbol of peace a little more and then help, Deku reach the truth.
Reasoing: it not deku going though the change but All might, as he is the only one who can validate the answer for deku! Cause he is inspiration behind his dream.
So, All might will have lie the character believes to Truth arc!
So, He will start the story Weak and with limited power-------- He is disillusioned with his hero life------------ then a young kid, get in his way and ask is it possible for someone powerless to become a hero--------------- Remembering his wounds, he wll answer No ( show his wound ) and leaves feeling bad------ later, he Then encounter a situation where a monster has taken a kid hostage, however find himself unable to transform to help ( he is mentally burn out) -------------- Then, with the action of the same powerless boy from earlier, he will be remind what it truly means to be a hero ( its not superpowers but spirit) ----------- get over himself and transform to defeat the monster -------- at the end change his answer just for deku, find him and tell him personally, "You Can Become a Hero"
Combines all together, and throw in some side character for more world building and impact, and you have the First Chapter of My Hero Academia.
Hopes it helps someone You
Wow I love all of this detail! Yeah that's why I said in the video this is the reason we love stories because everyone can have their own interpretation! :D

I don't know how to make a manga but I'm currently writing my own series that's supposed to be a manga but I'm writing it like a novel atm
Thank you

What about prologues that build the tension? I’m making the manga but I build up like 10 pages of the prologue but to me it builds the story

Thanks so much! I really appreciate the comment!
Thank you so much❤! I just have one question, is the one shot supposed to be "the first chapter" of the manga?
not really, if you read romance dawn(one shot manga of one piece) it has nothing to do the with main story.

DEMON SLAYER: 'how far would you go to save your sister', embodiment Kamado Tanjiro, thinks he could keep his sister save, does not know about demon (slayers)
You don't need an one-page prologue. Nobody said you need it on page one. Make it exciting for people to get involved.

Yeah sure thing drop your email address and I'll send you an email and I'll help anyway I can, let me know what type of feedback you'd like and I'll gladly send some bullet points to make you strengthen the story or just give you alternatives to think about haha.
