Here is something interesting: If you watch the netflix first and then the anime... You will love the anime more. If you have watched the anime and then the netflix... you will hate the live action.
It's watchable. Way better than what I was expecting. Good casting, VFX, action scenes, amazing costumes (despite the bad wigs) and locations. Too bad the story is a rushed mess. Feels like watching only the goals from a football match. I just hope it spark the interest for the anime, which is my favourite shounen ever.
This happens because they still push the show without committing Netflix for a multi season budget. Storywise they can do it for 3 seasons up to the tournament fight. If the first taguro fight is the 1st season highlight, they should’ve make character development as part of a flash back instead of cutting important plots lines.
The anime feels like if they took a whale and forcefully pushed into a sardine can. My jaw was on the floor that they kill Toguro on ep5. For context this is like making the whole Sayian/Freeza saga in 4 or 5 eps

I prefer to differ. It's flawed but I still really enjoyed it. It gave me the same kinda enjoyment I get from films like Fist of legend, Iron monkey, Kamen rider Zo & GogoV vs Timeranger. For me it's a 7/10.
You probably just never watched YYH. It's just not good. It's a good spectacle action-wise, but it lacks all the heart and soul of the original being steamlined so quickly as it was. Please YYH dub. You'll understand why fans are so disappointed. It's not good
@@BubblesChika Yes, I did. It's one of my favorite 90s show & right up there with Rurouni Kenshin, Street fighter V2, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw star & Trigun. It's an adaptation & many deviate from their original works. I love Spider man 2002 but I know someone who doesn't. In reality it's still a film that skipped alot of great content from the original comic, made drastic changes & immediately went with Green goblin as the main villain. The live action Yu yu Hakusho is flawed but it also gave me the same enjoyment I get from films like Fist of legend & Iron Monkey so you can't expect me to hate it. I didn't like the live action Cowboy Bebop though. Not even as a standalone series. The action is not effectively executed. The characters also feel alot more different & not in a way I like. Imo live action Toguro was atleast still more badass than live action Vicious. Anyway, not everything is going to work for everyone & that's fine. I'm also in the minority who enjoys the live action Rurouni Kenshin films more than the 90s anime.
@@peterfrost377 As a spectacle, I will say YYH live action is at least competently made but as for everything else, it's decidedly lacking the heart and soul that made the original so special. They turned Yusuke, one of the compelling and likeable shounen main characters, into a generic, try-hard edgelord that takes himself too seriously, never joking and cracking quips like Yusuke would do. Kuwabara isn't the lovable goofball that he is here and feels like he revolves around Yusuke, particularly tagging along with Yusuke to Genkai's just because he wanted to keep up with him whereas in the original, he sought Genkai out all on his own because he felt his spiritual awareness manifesting One gives him agency of his own accord, the other tethers him to live action not-quite Yusuke's character. The emotional beats are solely missing with little build-up. Not sure why they decided to cram so much stuff into such short a runtime. *Less is more.* Use less material to put more emphasis on what matters. Simply adapting up to Yukina's rescue without the steamlined Dark Tournament and ending off with Toguro's fake off death, like a shot of his fingers wiggling, would've been far more satisfying. We don't need four arcs when none of the characters and story lines are allowed to breath and develop
I started watching the anime from the Dark Tournament, thought it was amazing and then went back to the beginning to watch the rest and then finished it. I’ve always known about this anime over the years but never gave it a chance for some reason
It depends on the audiences, I guess. For those who never watched the anime or read the manga will find the show great (fighting scenes are the best!). But for those who did will find it awful because of so many shortened story's plots.
Its not bad but dude you cant condense the rescue yukina arc and the dark tournament arc together you miss just too much things. It definitely needed at least 3 more episodes
The people behind garbage knows the length of those arcs. So there's no excuse If you can't do it under those circumstances, then don't do it. Honestly, it's scummy cause it's clear these m0f0s just preyed on the nostalgia of fans
The fact that most people actually enjoyed this live action adaptation shows they haven't seen the anime. ( Or they have VERY BAD taste) This was one of the worst live action anime adaptations ever with how unfaithful and inaccurate it was. Like they couldn't even get Kuwarabara's hairstyle right and you expect them to get the story right?
I noticed from these people saying the live actions is bad have somethings in common, they LOVE overhyped boring animes and when they watch quality anime they say it sucks. They are straight up the weird kid in your childhood that who's so weird and act spoiled. Especially when they say Yusuke is boring, hate to break it to you kids it's anime they would over exaggerate the character to make it come to life. When you do this to a real person it would look annoying like ya'll. Oh wait yeah, I noticed most of them are Americans.

Dragon ball Z was the same thing, the public TV station would show the first meeting of vegeta this week then next week go into buu's arc. This show also reminded me of Dragon Ball Evolution where it tried to mesh young goku and adult goku together while cutting out characters.
I don't think i will watch it. Not because of hate or something , but YuYu Hakusho it's perfect the way it is. EVERY SINGLE FUKING EPISODE and music , and characters and vibe and story. So...i can't "cheat" it man. It's like eating an amazing meal at restaurant and the waiter will ask "can i serve you anything else?" no brother , im satisfied, it was perfect.
I’ve seen other reviews giving great praise to the show. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but I couldn’t stand it. This show is a shell of the true YuYu Hakusho, that wasn’t more obvious than Yusuke’s funeral. That scene held so much emotion in it that even as a little kid I felt something. Keiko collapsing to the ground unable to be held up at all. Kuwabara charging inside and sobbing for Yusuke, reaching his hand out to him desperately hoping he was alive. How his mother at last broke and how his teacher mourned that Yusuke had so much potential in his life that was wasted with his sudden death. And the little boy not understanding death and asking if he can play with Yusuke again as his mother cries and embraces him most likely feeling the loss of a boy who saved her own. That was all in episode one and it was brilliant. I barely managed to watch the first two episodes of the live action. And it wasn’t even bad in a funny way for most of it. Just not the same at all.
I enjoyed the live action . It reminded me of my childhood memories. But i admit they did my Kuwabara dirty😂. And dont even let me started with Kurama 😪

Well, the Netflix show was only five one-hour episodes long. I can see how shallow and frustrating the Netflix show can be given that the anime took its sweet time building the characters up. But ultimately I agree that they rushed to get to the Toguro brothers right away. A proper first season should have been 10 one-hour episodes long and ended with the Genkai tournament.
YYH Live Action had a lot of pros and cons, the biggest pros being the actors and visual fx artists did an amazing job, but the biggest con is that they skipped so many arcs and were forced to condense it to 5 episodes that you don't actually feel any character development or interaction. Each action holds no weight because they had to rush to the next story beat. Yusuke finally understood Kuwabara as an equal and a rival when he watched Kuwabara show up at his viewing and caused a ruckus, but that scene felt rushed. He didn't even get to the body. Oh yeah, let's introduce Genkai and then kill her off screen in one episode. Who is that old bag anyway? Probably no one important. Yusuke was powerful but it was still not enough to beat Toguro in their first fight, so the Spirit Wave Orb that Yusuke inherited from Genkai? It was more of a handshake and did not even explain why it was so important for her to give it to him. Oh yeah, and the pain and struggle of having Yusuke's body put up with the strength of the Spirit Wave Orb, so much so that when he finally conquered it, became Toguro's equal? Yeah there's no time for that. Let's just skip that part. Oh yeah, what's up with Sakyo's hairstyle and the whole high school delinquent attitude? Should we set it in the 90s? Nah, let's make it a vague modern retelling where their hairstyles make no sense in the modern day, and also let's give them smartphones. With that said, as much as I loved the actors, I doubt there will be a Season 2 and frankly I don't want any new season because they already ruined a lot of the initial story beats. "They" meaning Netflix, for giving them only 5 episodes. Fuck Netflix
I agree it was bad and rushed. But I liked it because I'm a fan. They should have spread it out more and put more elements of the anime in it. The fight scenes were good and I understand the special effects took up a huge part of the budget but no.
Saw the live action twice after watching it a second time I was inspired to re-watch the entirety of the anime and honestly it is good inspiration to watch the anime. The tournament is even better than what I remember the thing when I was younger and I think it still is my favorite out of all the arcs in that series.
You should watch the anime. Its easily considered one of the best animes of all time despite the last arc being rushed and not what it was originally supposed to be.

As a huge fan, Yu Yu Hakushi is one of my second favorite Shouen anime series. In the live-action, the biggest disappointment the only character may have been good was kurama
I didn't find the show bad, it was actually pretty good and very faithful to the source material. The only problem I had was how short and compact it was, they shouldn't have crammed so much into some episode and they definitely shouldn't have skipped the bigger arcs.
I didn't hate it, in some aspects it was ok. But one thing that bothered me is that one of the best things about Yuyu Hakusho anime/manga is that in almost every battle the heroes have to use their brain and creativity to win their battles, since most of the time they are facing enemies that are stronger than them. The live action battles are well done, but they lack the cleverness of its counterpart

I analyzed and called everything that was going to happen based off what I saw in the trailer alone. I was 100% besides how many episodes there would be. I was called crazy and stupid at the time.

What they gave us was like reading the back of a book for a synopsis of everything. They skipped important details it’s not even about being an exact copy. 1 example is when Yusuke & Kuwabara just showed up to Genkai’s place without winning a battle against other Human & Demon competitors who wanted to learn from Genkai & win her energy & the part when she just gives it to Yusuke without Yusuke putting in real work or feeling the pain from receiving Genkai’s energy.
Thank you. I see all these people saying how good it was and I just can't see how. 3 points were funny: truck, dropkick, and Genki looking like Yancha in a crater (that last one passed me off as much as made me laugh because her death normally makes me cry).
Reminds me of when Pokemon's anime style changed three times and that part of the anime was in shambles This still alone has me hyped for when certain points in the Egghead arc pop off. Wano's thicker lines are awesome and probably will come back as a style in The One Piece.
I watched the whole season but it had little to none of the heart of the anime. Squashing all the story arcs together robbed the significant moments of their original significance. Elder Taguro was a terrifying presence; Yusuke had go go through a bunch of training and tough fights in the dark tournament and other fights to even get close to strong enough to beat him. The dark tournament arc is one of the most beloved arcs in shounen and it was melded together with the save Yukina from Tarukane arc. Genkai's death was also a lot less significant since we only get to know her in the one episode instead of here fighting with team urameshi in the DT. Anyway, I don't think I'd care if they make more of this, since I don't even know where they'd go with it. The dark tournament arc would be pointless to adapt since team Taguro is already defeated. I guess they'd adapt the chapter black saga, but in a very rushed form again..... I'm hoping the anime reboot is much better.
It’s watchable..The worst thing about it imo is that it was only given 5 episodes to tell the story. If it had aleast 10 episodes, I think it would have been able to tell the story and flesh out the characters more..
Okay So I wasn’t the only one who didn’t understand the overly positive reaction to the show lol It’s not the worse live adaptation by a long shot, but jeez. None of the characters act like their supposed too. Hours of story telling is condensed into minutes. The action is cool, but it’s only cool cause everything else is very lackluster. Obviously I’m not expecting a panel by panel or scene by scene adaption, that would be insane. However I think we deserved more than a cliff notes version of arguably one of the best anime ever made.
It’s watchable if you’re only interested in the fight scenes, which are good. But the fact they crammed what? 3 seasons of the show into one, skipped over the entirety of the Dark Tournament, and thus removed all the great character developments for characters like Yusuke, and especially Togoro, who was one of the most complex and interesting guys in the entire series. Shame.
Far from perfect is an understatement. People aren't just nitpicking because it's not 100% the same. They should have known trying to cram like five arcs worth of story in five episodes is a terrible idea.
Let's see, they butchered: -Yusuke's trials to earn his second chance. The live action handing it on a silver platter to yusuke completely misses the point of that trial -Yusuke's resurrection which is actually emotional in the anime - Yusuke not being able to use a spirit gun right away - Yusuke fighting a mini tournament to chase down rando. Thus earning his chance to train with genkai. - His training with genkai was also ruined - Completely skipping the four beasts arc which showed Yusuke's growth as spirit detective - Completely butchering the dark tournament, which btw is the best tournament on any fuccing shounen. - Yusuke's actor being wooden and trying to be edgy and stoic. Yusuke can be a goofball and funny most of the time. That's the part of his charm - Yusuke's final trial with genkai, butchered again. Like come on, yusuke overcoming that trial was him fully growing a spine and showing maturity -Since they fucced up the dark tournament arc, they couldn't show Toguro making Yusuke sh*t his pants. This was a very important scene cause it forces yusuke to grow up and train hard cause lives are at stake here. Plus this was the first time in his life he felt genuine fear and awe at someone's power. -They fucced up Hiei's background story. He lost his Harui stone which is another reason why he sought out Shigure for the jagan eye -Genkai demonstrating her mastery over the spirit waves is such a treat in the anime. The moment she showed her own spirit gun to yusuke was epic asf. Too bad, netflix butchered it too -They fucced up Toguro's final battle with genkai and yusuke's reaction over it. -Completely fuccing up that iconic scene where yusuke uses his new spirit gun as dedication to genkai Seriously, fucc this adaptation. Whoever is behind this abomination should get slapped for the lack of respect to the source material.
bro there's plenty of respect for the source material. the only issue is it being a five episode limited series. None of what you listed could have been adapted properly in five episodes. With what the series actually gave us, you can tell the crew really tried. But they had such strict deadlines. Im not saying it would be better with 8 or 12 episodes. Im saying that you have to cut them slack and show some respect where its due. take your biases out for just a moment, bcuz quite frankly if you were expecting every one of your points to be addressed in five episodes you honestly just have no idea what it takes to create a tv show.

Rushed, no character development, missed important plots, removed other arcs like the 4 saint beasts, compressed the rescue Yukina story and the dark tournament into one story that will make other characters like Chu, Jin, and others to be removed in the next season (if they will still push it).
They definitely thought this one didn't have much potential so they cut out some long arcs to save money in case it flop, but I can definitely see the potential, the action sequence wasn't perfect but I like the style of the fight scenes they reminded me of the rurouni kenshin live action movies. One of the worse thing is kurama's wig lol it looks horrible
To me it was going well until episode 3, before that I was liking the more pissed off urameshi, it felt more real to me considering his situation, but when they put yusuke finishing completely his training with genkai in episode 3, I just gave up, also, i feel like your critiques with precision in the series get really weak when you can't spell kuwabara... and most of them are not really a problem with characterization, but with how rushed the series was
If you think this was bad then what do you have to say about One Piece? I think that as a first season, this is a good enough introduction to YYH. Calling this adaptation bad is like saying Infinity War was bad because it deviated from the comics and compressed so many episodes and tie-ins into a three-hour movie.
I’ve never really seen One Piece, aside from a few episodes on Toonami back when Cartoon Network owned the channel. The only ones who can say if it’s a good or bad adaptation are the fans. As for your point on Infinity War, that movie nearly resolves 10 years of cinematic character building and storytelling, which doesn’t hold up against a complete a misrepresentation of a story plucked straight from manga/anime that holds none the character aspects or world building that it was meant to portray.

Lol I havent seen it (the live action, love the anime/manga)but I probably could have told you all of this anyway lol. I have absolutely 0 faith or expections of netflix. Ive heard decent things about the castlevania anime, but I think thats the only mostly positive show Ive ever heard netflix put out. Everything else is either just disappointing, or pretty good for like 3 episodes and then disappointing (or even downright insulting to the source material). This is why I dont pay for netflix or hulu or any of that. Most of the stuff is available somewhere else, and the stuff that isnt is a 4/10 at best lol. Id love to get excited for stuff like this but its hard when literally everything they make has some glaring issue. Like here like was brought up in the video. Why why why WHY couldnt they just make the spirit sword the right color!?!? Never mind changing the story behind it, they cant even get the frickin color right!! Does the color really matter? Not hugely, but it really shows how little they care. Its not like it went from light blue to dark blue, its literally the opposite color!

People who liked this have never actually seen the show, None of the characters were true to the anime and the pacing is garbage. If anything this tarnished the amazing series that we love, People who have never seen the show will have no idea how good the actual anime series is........ And that's a shame.
To be fair, it’s a decent enough stand alone series on its own… but a rather bad adaptation story wise. People that don’t know the source will probably like it but fans will get a bitter taste in their mouth.
Yu Yu Hakusho gave us Hunter x Hunter cause Togashi didn't get to do what he wanted to do in YYH so he gave Netflix more freedom then Oda so I am sure it hit for the group it was target for well.

Once a book or comic is adapted to a movie or series, if it has so many changes from the original that means the Producers didn’t get the full Rights from the Author. Example of terrible live action, cowboy bebop live action was terrible, jojo live action was bad, dragon ball evolution was terrible, avatar last airbender live action movie was terrible. Live action YYH is TRASH. My friend and I were howling with laughter at how AWFUL it was. The hilarious scenes were few and far between so we stopped watching after episode 3. Everyone and everything as so dull and BORING. When I heard in this review about the Togoro fight, Genki's death, the dragon... they really squished key plot points over 50 anime episodes in to 5. AWFUL story telling.

I prefer to differ. It's flawed but I still really enjoyed it. It gave me the same kinda enjoyment I get from films like Fist of legend, Iron monkey, Kamen rider Zo & GogoV vs Timeranger. For me it's a 7/10.

@@BubblesChika Yes, I did. It's one of my favorite 90s show & right up there with Rurouni Kenshin, Street fighter V2, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw star & Trigun. It's an adaptation & many deviate from their original works. I love Spider man 2002 but I know someone who doesn't. In reality it's still a film that skipped alot of great content from the original comic, made drastic changes & immediately went with Green goblin as the main villain. The live action Yu yu Hakusho is flawed but it also gave me the same enjoyment I get from films like Fist of legend & Iron Monkey so you can't expect me to hate it. I didn't like the live action Cowboy Bebop though. Not even as a standalone series. The action is not effectively executed. The characters also feel alot more different & not in a way I like. Imo live action Toguro was atleast still more badass than live action Vicious. Anyway, not everything is going to work for everyone & that's fine. I'm also in the minority who enjoys the live action Rurouni Kenshin films more than the 90s anime.

They turned Yusuke, one of the compelling and likeable shounen main characters, into a generic, try-hard edgelord that takes himself too seriously, never joking and cracking quips like Yusuke would do.
Kuwabara isn't the lovable goofball that he is here and feels like he revolves around Yusuke, particularly tagging along with Yusuke to Genkai's just because he wanted to keep up with him whereas in the original, he sought Genkai out all on his own because he felt his spiritual awareness manifesting
One gives him agency of his own accord, the other tethers him to live action not-quite Yusuke's character.
The emotional beats are solely missing with little build-up. Not sure why they decided to cram so much stuff into such short a runtime.
*Less is more.* Use less material to put more emphasis on what matters. Simply adapting up to Yukina's rescue without the steamlined Dark Tournament and ending off with Toguro's fake off death, like a shot of his fingers wiggling, would've been far more satisfying.
We don't need four arcs when none of the characters and story lines are allowed to breath and develop
I started watching the anime from the Dark Tournament, thought it was amazing and then went back to the beginning to watch the rest and then finished it. I’ve always known about this anime over the years but never gave it a chance for some reason
It's like watching a monotone version of the anime. Like watching chalk screech across a board. Like why would I do that to myself?
It depends on the audiences, I guess. For those who never watched the anime or read the manga will find the show great (fighting scenes are the best!). But for those who did will find it awful because of so many shortened story's plots.
Only good thing about this show on Netflix was the fight scenes. I'm ok with different take on the story but they rushed it unnecessarily 😢
Its not bad but dude you cant condense the rescue yukina arc and the dark tournament arc together you miss just too much things. It definitely needed at least 3 more episodes

Dragon ball Z was the same thing, the public TV station would show the first meeting of vegeta this week then next week go into buu's arc. This show also reminded me of Dragon Ball Evolution where it tried to mesh young goku and adult goku together while cutting out characters.
I don't think i will watch it. Not because of hate or something , but YuYu Hakusho it's perfect the way it is. EVERY SINGLE FUKING EPISODE and music , and characters and vibe and story.
So...i can't "cheat" it man. It's like eating an amazing meal at restaurant and the waiter will ask "can i serve you anything else?" no brother , im satisfied, it was perfect.
I’ve seen other reviews giving great praise to the show. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion but I couldn’t stand it. This show is a shell of the true YuYu Hakusho, that wasn’t more obvious than Yusuke’s funeral. That scene held so much emotion in it that even as a little kid I felt something.
Keiko collapsing to the ground unable to be held up at all. Kuwabara charging inside and sobbing for Yusuke, reaching his hand out to him desperately hoping he was alive. How his mother at last broke and how his teacher mourned that Yusuke had so much potential in his life that was wasted with his sudden death. And the little boy not understanding death and asking if he can play with Yusuke again as his mother cries and embraces him most likely feeling the loss of a boy who saved her own. That was all in episode one and it was brilliant.
I barely managed to watch the first two episodes of the live action. And it wasn’t even bad in a funny way for most of it. Just not the same at all.
I enjoyed the live action . It reminded me of my childhood memories. But i admit they did my Kuwabara dirty😂. And dont even let me started with Kurama 😪

Well, the Netflix show was only five one-hour episodes long. I can see how shallow and frustrating the Netflix show can be given that the anime took its sweet time building the characters up. But ultimately I agree that they rushed to get to the Toguro brothers right away. A proper first season should have been 10 one-hour episodes long and ended with the Genkai tournament.
YYH Live Action had a lot of pros and cons, the biggest pros being the actors and visual fx artists did an amazing job, but the biggest con is that they skipped so many arcs and were forced to condense it to 5 episodes that you don't actually feel any character development or interaction. Each action holds no weight because they had to rush to the next story beat. Yusuke finally understood Kuwabara as an equal and a rival when he watched Kuwabara show up at his viewing and caused a ruckus, but that scene felt rushed. He didn't even get to the body. Oh yeah, let's introduce Genkai and then kill her off screen in one episode. Who is that old bag anyway? Probably no one important. Yusuke was powerful but it was still not enough to beat Toguro in their first fight, so the Spirit Wave Orb that Yusuke inherited from Genkai? It was more of a handshake and did not even explain why it was so important for her to give it to him. Oh yeah, and the pain and struggle of having Yusuke's body put up with the strength of the Spirit Wave Orb, so much so that when he finally conquered it, became Toguro's equal? Yeah there's no time for that. Let's just skip that part.
Oh yeah, what's up with Sakyo's hairstyle and the whole high school delinquent attitude? Should we set it in the 90s? Nah, let's make it a vague modern retelling where their hairstyles make no sense in the modern day, and also let's give them smartphones.
With that said, as much as I loved the actors, I doubt there will be a Season 2 and frankly I don't want any new season because they already ruined a lot of the initial story beats. "They" meaning Netflix, for giving them only 5 episodes. Fuck Netflix
I agree it was bad and rushed. But I liked it because I'm a fan. They should have spread it out more and put more elements of the anime in it. The fight scenes were good and I understand the special effects took up a huge part of the budget but no.

Saw the live action twice after watching it a second time I was inspired to re-watch the entirety of the anime and honestly it is good inspiration to watch the anime. The tournament is even better than what I remember the thing when I was younger and I think it still is my favorite out of all the arcs in that series.
Its actually good. I didn't watch the anime version yet, but the action scenes and the flow of live action is good, well for me atleast.
You should watch the anime. Its easily considered one of the best animes of all time despite the last arc being rushed and not what it was originally supposed to be.

while its not a 1 to 1 adaptation, I think the characters themsleves were adapted greatly (except Genkai who trusted Yusuke far too quickly).
I don't think it was bad I just don't think they thought they would have another season so they just smashed two seasons together. Which was dumb, which ultimately for me did make it bad. I think it had potential but they ruined it.
If they added 5-10 more episodes it could have fixed what was bad the fights are amazing but paceing fked it up.

As a huge fan, Yu Yu Hakushi is one of my second favorite Shouen anime series. In the live-action, the biggest disappointment the only character may have been good was kurama
I didn't find the show bad, it was actually pretty good and very faithful to the source material. The only problem I had was how short and compact it was, they shouldn't have crammed so much into some episode and they definitely shouldn't have skipped the bigger arcs.

I didn't hate it, in some aspects it was ok. But one thing that bothered me is that one of the best things about Yuyu Hakusho anime/manga is that in almost every battle the heroes have to use their brain and creativity to win their battles, since most of the time they are facing enemies that are stronger than them. The live action battles are well done, but they lack the cleverness of its counterpart

What they gave us was like reading the back of a book for a synopsis of everything. They skipped important details it’s not even about being an exact copy. 1 example is when Yusuke & Kuwabara just showed up to Genkai’s place without winning a battle against other Human & Demon competitors who wanted to learn from Genkai & win her energy & the part when she just gives it to Yusuke without Yusuke putting in real work or feeling the pain from receiving Genkai’s energy.
I suggest if they want to make anime live action you got to make it like Kung Fu Hustle or Stephen Chow films. It has humors like you see inin anime

This still alone has me hyped for when certain points in the Egghead arc pop off. Wano's thicker lines are awesome and probably will come back as a style in The One Piece.
I watched the whole season but it had little to none of the heart of the anime. Squashing all the story arcs together robbed the significant moments of their original significance. Elder Taguro was a terrifying presence; Yusuke had go go through a bunch of training and tough fights in the dark tournament and other fights to even get close to strong enough to beat him. The dark tournament arc is one of the most beloved arcs in shounen and it was melded together with the save Yukina from Tarukane arc. Genkai's death was also a lot less significant since we only get to know her in the one episode instead of here fighting with team urameshi in the DT.
Anyway, I don't think I'd care if they make more of this, since I don't even know where they'd go with it. The dark tournament arc would be pointless to adapt since team Taguro is already defeated. I guess they'd adapt the chapter black saga, but in a very rushed form again.....

It’s watchable..The worst thing about it imo is that it was only given 5 episodes to tell the story. If it had aleast 10 episodes, I think it would have been able to tell the story and flesh out the characters more..
Okay So I wasn’t the only one who didn’t understand the overly positive reaction to the show lol It’s not the worse live adaptation by a long shot, but jeez. None of the characters act like their supposed too. Hours of story telling is condensed into minutes. The action is cool, but it’s only cool cause everything else is very lackluster. Obviously I’m not expecting a panel by panel or scene by scene adaption, that would be insane. However I think we deserved more than a cliff notes version of arguably one of the best anime ever made.
It’s watchable if you’re only interested in the fight scenes, which are good. But the fact they crammed what? 3 seasons of the show into one, skipped over the entirety of the Dark Tournament, and thus removed all the great character developments for characters like Yusuke, and especially Togoro, who was one of the most complex and interesting guys in the entire series. Shame.
Netflix: Gundam live action is next on the chopping block.

-Yusuke's trials to earn his second chance. The live action handing it on a silver platter to yusuke completely misses the point of that trial
-Yusuke's resurrection which is actually emotional in the anime
- Yusuke not being able to use a spirit gun right away
- Yusuke fighting a mini tournament to chase down rando. Thus earning his chance to train with genkai.
- His training with genkai was also ruined
- Completely skipping the four beasts arc which showed Yusuke's growth as spirit detective
- Completely butchering the dark tournament, which btw is the best tournament on any fuccing shounen.
- Yusuke's actor being wooden and trying to be edgy and stoic. Yusuke can be a goofball and funny most of the time. That's the part of his charm
- Yusuke's final trial with genkai, butchered again. Like come on, yusuke overcoming that trial was him fully growing a spine and showing maturity
-Since they fucced up the dark tournament arc, they couldn't show Toguro making Yusuke sh*t his pants. This was a very important scene cause it forces yusuke to grow up and train hard cause lives are at stake here. Plus this was the first time in his life he felt genuine fear and awe at someone's power.
-They fucced up Hiei's background story. He lost his Harui stone which is another reason why he sought out Shigure for the jagan eye
-Genkai demonstrating her mastery over the spirit waves is such a treat in the anime. The moment she showed her own spirit gun to yusuke was epic asf. Too bad, netflix butchered it too
-They fucced up Toguro's final battle with genkai and yusuke's reaction over it.
-Completely fuccing up that iconic scene where yusuke uses his new spirit gun as dedication to genkai

bro there's plenty of respect for the source material. the only issue is it being a five episode limited series. None of what you listed could have been adapted properly in five episodes. With what the series actually gave us, you can tell the crew really tried. But they had such strict deadlines. Im not saying it would be better with 8 or 12 episodes. Im saying that you have to cut them slack and show some respect where its due. take your biases out for just a moment, bcuz quite frankly if you were expecting every one of your points to be addressed in five episodes you honestly just have no idea what it takes to create a tv show.

Rushed, no character development, missed important plots, removed other arcs like the 4 saint beasts, compressed the rescue Yukina story and the dark tournament into one story that will make other characters like Chu, Jin, and others to be removed in the next season (if they will still push it).
They definitely thought this one didn't have much potential so they cut out some long arcs to save money in case it flop, but I can definitely see the potential, the action sequence wasn't perfect but I like the style of the fight scenes they reminded me of the rurouni kenshin live action movies. One of the worse thing is kurama's wig lol it looks horrible
To me it was going well until episode 3, before that I was liking the more pissed off urameshi, it felt more real to me considering his situation, but when they put yusuke finishing completely his training with genkai in episode 3, I just gave up, also, i feel like your critiques with precision in the series get really weak when you can't spell kuwabara... and most of them are not really a problem with characterization, but with how rushed the series was

If you think this was bad then what do you have to say about One Piece? I think that as a first season, this is a good enough introduction to YYH. Calling this adaptation bad is like saying Infinity War was bad because it deviated from the comics and compressed so many episodes and tie-ins into a three-hour movie.
I’ve never really seen One Piece, aside from a few episodes on Toonami back when Cartoon Network owned the channel. The only ones who can say if it’s a good or bad adaptation are the fans. As for your point on Infinity War, that movie nearly resolves 10 years of cinematic character building and storytelling, which doesn’t hold up against a complete a misrepresentation of a story plucked straight from manga/anime that holds none the character aspects or world building that it was meant to portray.
Nah, it exceeded my very low expectations. I just consider it as another universe. The action is top-notch. Way better than that of One Piece LA. Great acting too.

Lol I havent seen it (the live action, love the anime/manga)but I probably could have told you all of this anyway lol. I have absolutely 0 faith or expections of netflix. Ive heard decent things about the castlevania anime, but I think thats the only mostly positive show Ive ever heard netflix put out. Everything else is either just disappointing, or pretty good for like 3 episodes and then disappointing (or even downright insulting to the source material).
This is why I dont pay for netflix or hulu or any of that. Most of the stuff is available somewhere else, and the stuff that isnt is a 4/10 at best lol. Id love to get excited for stuff like this but its hard when literally everything they make has some glaring issue.

Yu yu hakusho anime was really good.
To be fair, it’s a decent enough stand alone series on its own… but a rather bad adaptation story wise. People that don’t know the source will probably like it but fans will get a bitter taste in their mouth.
Yu Yu Hakusho gave us Hunter x Hunter cause Togashi didn't get to do what he wanted to do in YYH so he gave Netflix more freedom then Oda so I am sure it hit for the group it was target for well.

Once a book or comic is adapted to a movie or series, if it has so many changes from the original that means the Producers didn’t get the full Rights from the Author. Thats how Copyright and Show Business works. Now you know. And Im glad Togashi didnt gave the Full Rights. Netflix dont deserve it.

stop it nobody's gonna watch all through the long and boring first arc. as you say YYH fans would prefer that but how many people are those that have netflix and was a fan of the original and will watch through all that long boring shit, i'm sure not enough to fund this show for more than 10 episodes. it's impossible to get what you want. it's already the best case scenario to get something this good, if it got enough heat we could get a black arc or dark arc tournament if they somehow find a way to revive toguro.
First episode was pretty good and second was ok imo but they didnt make the right move with the rest
It's okay although I agreed they took away the best humor and the series is too damn short. The anime will always be superior.

You can enjoy something while knowing that it's horrible. From a story standpoint, you cannot defend the live action in any way, shape or form.

I don’t understand why people keep making live action version of anime, the live action adaptation are always terrible because live action doesn’t have the same charm as the anime or animation.
Example of terrible live action, cowboy bebop live action was terrible, jojo live action was bad, dragon ball evolution was terrible, avatar last airbender live action movie was terrible. Can people stop making live action version of anime please.

Live action YYH is TRASH. My friend and I were howling with laughter at how AWFUL it was. The hilarious scenes were few and far between so we stopped watching after episode 3. Everyone and everything as so dull and BORING. When I heard in this review about the Togoro fight, Genki's death, the dragon... they really squished key plot points over 50 anime episodes in to 5. AWFUL story telling.
