Thank you so much for this video. Excellent summary. It was an honor to be the 2D artist for this project, I hope you like all the cockpit textures, panels, gauges and liveries including the SkywardFM one, haha.
Do you have any recommendations for learning how to get into making textures? I've always been curious how that worked (things like what software you use, how you make it to where it lines up perfectly with the model, etc), and I'm sure there are tutorials out there, but I don't really know where to look for it. Great work, by the way, it looks on par with the official modules

"Come on we can do better than that" haha. You sir are a perfectionist but made it look so easy! Legend! I would have taken that snap as a absolute win!
That looks like fun. Good work. And I agree: DCS is very generous, re; the 'snap' or 'grab' of the probe/drogue. Heard they were working on it. Be nice to know if there's a lua entry to change this (make it more strict).
I love that you have at least a bit of "leeway", as we don't have depth perception, feeling of movement/acceleration/deceleration, no peripheral vision, need to fiddle around with a "comms menu"... Unlike in real life. 😉
How we do not have a Blackhawk of some variant either already released, or even announced, is beyond me. Seems like a good candidate for a module with the popularity of the Huey.
Especially now, the UH-60, and AH-64 have alot in common. It would make easy money for ED. I would love to see one of the Spec Ops birds. Just to get the optics. Would be totally awesome teamed up with the Apache.
@@FuriouslyFurious Basically the same General Electric engines, probably basically the same HMS, EW sweat, MFDs, radios. There will be a ton of overlap between any two aircraft operated by the same branch at the same time.
@@sasquatchycowboy5585 As one that has worked on both the UH-60A/L and the AH-64A/D, I can tell you, out side of the engines, they are no where near the same. They have very different design philosophies. The displays inside are not even the same. The Lima model Blackhawk used 'tapes' for almost everything with nothing but steam gauges for the primary flight instruments, and it wasn't till the Mike model that they got glass cockpits. The flight controls are nothing alike, there is nothing like the Apache's weapons control system on the Blackhawk, and the EW suite is about the only thing they have that is similar but they aren't even displayed the same way in both helicopters. So, no, as you were corrected before, they are nothing alike.
You did a great job! I always rage quit before getting the hang of it and shoot down the refueling ship :P After watching your near misses at 5:14, I stopped watching as this is when I would've shot the plane down :P lol Great job keeping so close to the plane though! Such a great pilot :)

arcade physics it seems. in real life banking more than 60 degrees would get you in real trouble :)) just curious: on which existing model does this mod build on? thanks.
It's not arcade, flight model is based on this: ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/19840015585/downloads/19840015585.pdf However, it does need refinement and it's not a model that covers extreme flight situations. @@RedKiteRender you wanna bet? Start with the Herc in a holding pattern at a normal speedwith say waypoints 2 and 3 as an orbit with a trigger zone around it. Set it so that when you enter the holding pattern around the same altitude as the herc you trigger a "follow" action on the herc with the parameters set to put it into the right formation position @HercDriver65 maybe you can advise where the Herc would form up please? I am guessing ahead, above and to the right in a normal kind of pre-contact position. Anyway now you need to have another small MOVING trigger zone on the Herc and a trigger that when you enter that trigger zone at the right altitude (as in it formed up on you) it now terminates following you and changes waypoint to a new orbit pair say waypoints #3 and #4 and begins it's refuel orbit at a nice lower speed. Additionally you can set a time since flag and maybe even voice/text messages from the tanker. The time since means it will fly formed up with you nice and stable for a little while before beginning it's orbit.
Of course it doesn't need to be you going to the Herc's holding pattern, it could be any waypoint along your route with a trigger zone where you are expecting to rendezvous with the tanker. I realised after writing that reply that essentially what I described was chasing down the tanker again haha
BMS doesn't even simulate baskets, and this is a community made mod doing something that even officially hasn't been done yet. But yes, i can refuel in BMS too, difficulty is on par with DCS's boom. Arguably slightly easier since wake turbulence simulation is simpler, the boom operator communicates a little, and the boom imparts some energy into your jet once connected in BMS. How about we all fly simulators and even arcade games we enjoy, not just limit ourselves to one, and respect one and other for that.

Absolutely cracked me up with the "Not even going to comment on that" moment. Brilliant and really well flown.
That basket just said "Fuck it, close enough. Ima jump right up on that thing."
That's what she said.
Redkite: "Get the fuel probe to extend..."
Me, an intellectual: "Giggity"
I kinda wish DCS was that generous with the fuel hookup when "I" am trying to refuel. :)
Haha i remember my early attempts!
It would be cool to have a maritime version with sonar and torpedoes. Imagine doing a search for a sub.
Yeah that'd be pretty neat! There's a script for the Huey to simulate some anti-sub warfare.

It's the Syria map.
The helo drogue is almost double the size of the high speed drogue . 105 knots the norm.
Never realised they had different drogues, but makes sense!
I’ve noticed the F-14 has next to no snap. The f-18 on the other hand does have a good amount.
Typical refueling speed is 105-115 knots for helicopters. And usually 500-1000 feet AGL.
