@@FastJetPerformance Thanks man! You have an awesome channel! Gotta make my way to the UK one day. Been everywhere else in Europe but never crossed the channel.
As a UH60 pilot I am impressed with how you get all this good information into a short video. I am equally impressed with how the aerodynamics and behaviour of the helicopter is so realistic. Now the only thing they should add is Lowe airfield, chickenplant and a couple of stage fields and the whole AQC could be done at home :-)
Yeah, I'm hoping we get a realistic 60 in MSFS soon. They just dropped helicopters but only have a Bell 407 and some other weird one I've never heard of. Somebody wend and modeled all the airfields around Rucker so we just need the 60 now!
@@SnakPakFlight my brother is one of you guys, he retired a few years back and flies in the civ world I went USAF, they don't have a warrant program so I was stuck unless I got some degree. @Yo Joe I was a space shuttle door gunner on the 40 MKW rotary cannon during the Kalgninoron invasion a few years ago. You are not an a space rocket pilot, I would know you.
@Yo Joe it patently obvious that you have never been turned into a newt, if you had you would know that you are not given a passport when that happens. You only get a passport when a squirrel has a group thang with some watermelons and a lamp post. Then to get the hot beef injection one must first have a bridge built out of them, watch two movies about gladiators, have seen a grown man naked, spent time in a Turkish prison, and weigh as much as a duck. Thankfully we have real UH60 pilots flying DCS so we can avoid all of that. They are the true heroes, as they fly the top gun actors around.
It’s a pedagogical method called “modeling” and the key is to talk through not just the process but one’s own thought process as they complete the example for the student. Was always really effective for me as well and I personally utilize that approach to great success in physical skills such as exercise and sports.
There is an Apache pilot who does DCS on here. I find it inappropriate to link other channels in a persons video, but if you search for him you will find him. He does really good sim videos too.
I guess this puts to rest the myth that you need a bunch of fancy controls! I really enjoy seeing the pros take the time to give the rest of us some really great tips.
Ryan, true! But better controls do enhance the realism. Our simulators we use for training are much more sophisticated. I spent some money on a honeycomb yoke and the rest went to my Pc basically. I’m hoping some of the flight control companies will send me some of their stuff for review.
I flew fixed and rotor in rl and sims since the early days. I actually use two joysticks because helicopters are notorious for putting a lot of wear/tear quick as opposed to aircraft. I use my TM WH stick/throttle/pedals for all my fixed wing and use a Saitek X52 for helis. The main things about helis is regardless of the brand, you want a stick that had great feel around the neutral with zero deadzone. At first it will feel WAY to over sensitive but after practice just thinking about it moves the heli. During training I actually had to use a marble on a ceramic plate, sit it on my lap and be able to center it and hold it there.
That sloped landing was absolute sorcery and the fact that you're using basic hotas equipment is actually very encouraging for other people interested in trying this out.
My uncle used to love playing flight sims, all the way back to the early 2000's. He always wanted to fly a helicopter but never got the chance with work and then his brain cancer. I love watching these videos and imagining what he'd be saying with a big smile across his face. DCS is light years away from anything he ever played but he would have loved to get into this game.
Dude, I love that you don't have expensive controls and you're just smoothly crushing it. This mod is great. I was an MTP from '05-'15 and the way you talk through the maneuvers takes me back to RL progression. Be safe my man.
It's funny how this stuff never leaves my brain. I graduated from Army Flight School in 2007 and stopped flying in 2012. Still, the moment you said Dynamic Rollover, I immediatlely thought, pivot point, rolling motion, critical angle. I thought I overwrote those mental bits years ago!
Even though i had a basic idea on how to perform most of these landing techniques in sims, it was super interesting to see someone trained on the real thing demonstrating real skills in DCS. Thank you!

Man I have nothing but respect for Blackhawk pilots. The day they landed in the middle of a field in Afghanistan to cas evac my friend just shocked me. They landed in a hot Lz and the only place the thought they could safely land was between us and the bad guys.
They didn’t care. We got him loaded and then they took off in under a min. When we were cycling out we actually got to meet the pilots and crew that ran our cad evacs and I thanked them. The peace of mind knowing that if me or one of my guys got hurt they would be there meant everything.
I was actually on The Pilot's Lounge podcast talking about APART prep. Check it out: brotallion.com/blogs/the-pilots-lounge/episode-35-apart-prep-with-snak-pak
Great Motion Parallax definition, in fact, I have never heard of it before nor should I have heard of it, unless I watched this video (rando to me UA-cam suggestion) -- what a straight forward way of conceptualizing excessive future/past focused planning and the necessity of Present (nearby) laser focus toward a goal. Procrastination alert.
Back in the BattleField 2 days I was forbidden by my friends to go anywhere near the notr littlebird (AIX mod). The cone of death was strong with me. You just inspired me to transition to Arma 3. I know this is DCS but aRMa is cheaper all around. I thank you but no one else will.

that was awesome! thank you so much for that very informative video. great content please more!
Great stuff! I'll keep all these tips in mind the next time I find myself behind the stick of a Blackhawk 😄
you are a great instructor sir. keep up the good work👏🏻
I appreciate that!
Most entertaining & informative video i've seen in a while
HEY! You gave me a checkride about 6 months back!!! Definitely subscribed
Yo! Well looks like you passed. Congrats lol
@@SnakPakFlight you showed up on my UA-cam feed and i was like “no fing way, it can’t be…” the video was great, exactly the same way you trained us
Speechless at how awesome this is. Specifically for helicopter flying, the sim is tremendous for training.
Yea DCS is amazing, I love it, and have spent probably a couple thousand on aircraft and other modules.
the sim itself is free though, and includes a high fidelity (clickable cockpit) trainer P-51 trainer.
It also isn't just VR, you can play just as good with a monitor and a head tracker, which you can DIY for like 50 bucks.
400-500 total including software and modules would set ya up pretty good. A lil more if you want the supercarrier for carrier ops with an F-14 or F-18 or something.
Thanks so much for serving Josh. Glad they were able to get your boy out.
Sweet. I can reference this for my APART.
I was actually on The Pilot's Lounge podcast talking about APART prep. Check it out:

This was cool, thanks for taking the time.
This was very fun to watch!
I love flying helicopters 😁 (in games)
Great Motion Parallax definition, in fact, I have never heard of it before nor should I have heard of it, unless I watched this video (rando to me UA-cam suggestion) -- what a straight forward way of conceptualizing excessive future/past focused planning and the necessity of Present (nearby) laser focus toward a goal. Procrastination alert.
that transmission whine is spot on
Yep
Super cool. I really want to see more realism in helicopter physics in first person shooters.
Well done sir. MOS was 67n/t 1980's
