    This is the sequel to this week's "Attack of the reefer trucks," and this time "umbrella man" (on the right) has to run for his life to avoid getting hit by the flying debris. This time the bridge wouldn't let go so easily of the truck, and so they had to bring in a big tow truck to remove the busted reefer truck. The entire operation took almost 2 hours, during which Gregson St. was completely blocked off on a Friday at lunchtime! This road has a traffic volume of 11k-12k vehicles a day, so traffic was a mess, too. Enjoy the video! This is crash # 143 since April 2008.

    Fun Fact: The sign in the parking lot next door that says "Morgan Imports" is actually made from the top of a truck that hit this bridge. The artist picked it up after a crash, flattened it by driving over it with a forklift, and then used it!

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA 5 років тому +32

      @@steingat I think he makes out from these jobs, knowing that his wrecker fits, and that the lift must just be above the ground, with the victim truck front tyres flat, to get it out.
      Did see a trucker that managed to fit himself under a bridge nicely, and that was a difficult extraction, as he was going fast enough that all the rear tyres burst, and the springs went flat on the trailer. IIRC they had to cut the wheels in half with acetylene torches to get clearance to drag it back out. Did not help that the road rises under this bridge, and the massive refinery pressure vessel segment he was carrying did not bend at all on impact, just acted like a wedge. They got it out, and the segment was repaired, and delivered a little late.
      Another is a low bridge under a racecourse, he took the rear box body completely off at the floor, leaving a nice confetti of foam insulation behind. Then same bridge a municipal bus, they had to pull it through completely, as every window had shattered, and the top of the bus was leaning at a nice rakish angle.

      It's a Buick Rendezvous. The factory window tinting makes it really hard to see when backing up, the rear roof pillars are huge blind spots, and the backup warning system (that beeps at the driver when you get too close to something) is often oversensitive... I've driven them and their visibility leaves much to be desired...
      But you're probably right, it's most likely a lack of backing proficiency.
