Some etiquette for eating in banana leaf. 1.always sprinkle and wipe before eating. 2.the pointy side of leaf should be always towards your left. 3. Side dishes are served on the top portion ans main dishes on the bottom portion. 4.side dishes they served here are salt, gooseberry pickle, cabbage poriyal- sauted veg, some sort of aviyal - steames vegetables, kootu - veg with lentil and coconut, vada, papadam- a rice crisp, mor melagai. 4. The main dishes served here are rice, nei paruppu-lentil with ghee, sambar, rasam- soupy dish with tamarind, cumin and pepper. Curd. Usually theyre eaten in this order sambar, vatha/puli kulambu ( a thick sour dish with dry/fresh veg), butter or curd, finally rasam and then dessert. 5. After the meal you fold your leaf towards you if you liked the meal, away from you if yourenot satisfied. 6. Salt and pickle are always served first. 7. You can mix and match anything but never mix bread and rice.
I love the follower in the comments with the instructions on how to eat the banana leaf dish.... very interesting and useful info. This looks like a more sustainable environment from the sensory overload of Chennai :) love exploring the side streets, local markets, and everyone is so friendly. Even though we aren't going to the east coast your videos are getting us excited about our trip. I absolutely love the contrast of bold colours, stark white skirts against the dusty grit of the environment. Would be great to get into the green of nature there.

Indeed undoubtedly it is the most friendliest people you will ever see in India… where you have the oldest civilisation of the world and they believe “Every life on earth are your friends and family” that you can literally get in any of the houses there and ask for help and stay there…! Which I hardly find that love and affection if I come out of that district, and it will be greatly reduced when you come out of the southern states, and you no where find it if you go out of India! ♥️
You guys are just 5 km away from my house, happy to see you both having a pleasant time here in my town, have a great journey ahead, stay safe have fun❤️

@@EllisWR hey ellis. i'm from chennai. pretty happy with kind of reception you got from the city of madurai. the old man at the start blessed your for life. he said in tamil "valga valamudan", that translates to prosperity and longevity, that he wished for. you are a very great traveller, and from everyone in Tamil Nadu, we love your vlogs! by the way, I'm not sure about Madurai, but in Chennai, if you're ever /revisiting Chennai, you can always use Google Maps. The suburban rail, and the metro rail are one of the most on-time systems in India. The bus routes are all uploaded on G-Maps, so you'd have a lovely time visitng Chennai, and i'd suggest a visit in January, or February, because the temperatures are cold compared to rest of the months. and because Chennai is a vast city, i'd suggest some special close-to-Chennaites places to visit fs if you're revisiting, which I'd love a lot, if you actually come! 1. Rathna Cafe, Thiruvallikeni (a very famous food place, in Chennai, for Chennai's best breakfasts) 2. Arulmigu Parthasarathy Temple, Thiruvallikeni (one of the prime temples in Thiruvallikeni) 3. Kapaleeswarar Temple, Thirumayilai (this one and the no. 2 are like what makes Chennai what it is) 4. The Upper End of Marina Beach, near the Napier's Bridge (during sunrise times, its a famous spot for photography and exercises) 5. Kathipara Urban Square, Alandur (Asia's largest cloverleaf interchange, recently turned into a multimodal hub, and a ground-levelled fun spot) 6. Elliot's Beach, Besant Nagar (its famous for being silent, atleast compared to Marina Beach) 7. Broken Bridge, Adyar (visit at your own risk, and don't climb the bridge, because though its bloody beautiful but also filled with glass shards) 8. Thiru-vi-ka Bridge, Adyar (during sunrise or sunsets, its one of the best bridges) 9. Besant Avenue Road, Adyar and Besant Nagar (its a road, surrounded by a Theosophical society, which can also be visited, its very pleasant in mornings) 10. Pulicat Lake (a little detour, wait not a little, a BIGGG DETOUR, but a deserved DETOUR) 11. Mahabalipuram (Chennai's little vacation spot, its beautiful, and it can only be described visually if you go there)

1:10:59 Ragi malt, made from finger millet, is rich in nutrients. It provides a good source of calcium, iron, fiber, and essential amino acids. It can aid in weight management, support bone health, and help regulate blood sugar levels due to its low glycemic index. Additionally, the antioxidants in ragi contribute to overall well-being and may help prevent certain diseases.
Amazing stuff then thanks for explaining
I am so glad that your started your video from down South. India is not all Polluted, Congested or Yellow. South Indians are the kindest and friendliest people you will ever meet.
Every International Tourist should start their journey from Kerala or Tamil Nadu and gradually move upwards. And you wont be disappointed.

Because the world needs to see that India is not about Golden Triangle and polluted metros. Those are worst places to know India.
India's heart lies in rural India like Madurai with its genuinely people who are pure at heart. India is not only, what is shown by BBC and Danny Boyle. Thank you for showing release India from Ellis's eyes. Please visit North East, Lakshadweep and Andaman/Nicobar Islands. Living the nomad life with your vlogs and journey.

Really appreciate the info 🙏🙏

I love the follower in the comments with the instructions on how to eat the banana leaf dish.... very interesting and useful info. This looks like a more sustainable environment from the sensory overload of Chennai :) love exploring the side streets, local markets, and everyone is so friendly. Even though we aren't going to the east coast your videos are getting us excited about our trip. I absolutely love the contrast of bold colours, stark white skirts against the dusty grit of the environment. Would be great to get into the green of nature there.
Some people are super helpful. I'm sure you'll. Love it! We will try to get out into the nature soon 🙏
Madurai is my hometown, i have been away from there since 2015, hoping to go back and live there soon with my mum. Seeing this video virtually took me there. thanks to u guys. Love u.

Hey man👋 I've been following you guys for a couple of days. I'm from madurai and this one made me happy as lot of youtubers go to Chennai and don't show anyother cities in tamilnadu. tip: try to explore hidden spots if possible
Will try to show more thanks so much
That was an absolutely fantastic video about our dear city Madurai. Thank you very much for this fair, authentic and objective , with all it's pros and cons. Madurai cities people are indeed warm, welcoming and friendly , which you have credited it with. But for the ubiquitous herds of cows, the choking traffic and quite awful city roads , our Madurai never fails to interest it's dwellers as well as visitors.
Profound thanks to you guys for this interesting video, please.
Thanks so much really appreciate you watching. We do like your city a lot, through the good and the bad! Nowhere is perfect, but Madurai is a nice place
Madurai has some of the best food in south India. I love this city and its vibe. I am from Chennai. So, whenever I am in Madurai for any reason, I just spend a lot of time eating the amazing food. 😋
It's great isn't it!!
Southern india are knowledgeable people and literate too . Most of them are spoke English. Indias financial contribution is high in south india

Speaking English doesn't mean knowledgeable. If you have respect towards foreigners and treat them well, it is knowledgeable.

Great place!!
Thank you for exploring Tamilnadu and Tamil culture to the world brother. Tamil people always friendly....❤
I am visiting Madurai next year. Love from Kathmandu, Nepal
Have an amazing time
Just so that you'll know, all the government buses in Tamilnadu are beaten up because they run at avery cheap price (most of them are free for women) to help the poor who use them on a daily basis, hence not a lot of features for comfort but does the job! Really great videos, hope you're liking our beautiful Tamil Nadu
Yeah everything is great! We like the buses and use them alllll the time!
There are good buses too but that's limited in Madurai.
Even other South districts had many good buses than Madurai.

Wow, the start of this video itself reveals the story about South India, right, Ellis? That man, jumped out of the bike, greeted you both and asked if you were married and most importantly, if you guys have a child. I love it!! Indians, particularly, south Indians are so welcoming to the tourists. Ellis, by the way, if you haven't read or heard, Tamilnadu is one of the safest states for tourism in India. People are so affectionate and respectful. And undoubtedly yourself and Alisha (am I spelling it correct) are really loving and lovable persons. God bless you both. Keep travelling.
We bloody love it here. People are the best we get on well. so well with everyone!! Cant wait to return one day
@@EllisWR hey ellis. i'm from chennai. pretty happy with kind of reception you got from the city of madurai. the old man at the start blessed your for life. he said in tamil "valga valamudan", that translates to prosperity and longevity, that he wished for. you are a very great traveller, and from everyone in Tamil Nadu, we love your vlogs!
by the way, I'm not sure about Madurai, but in Chennai, if you're ever /revisiting Chennai, you can always use Google Maps.
1. Rathna Cafe, Thiruvallikeni (a very famous food place, in Chennai, for Chennai's best breakfasts)
2. Arulmigu Parthasarathy Temple, Thiruvallikeni (one of the prime temples in Thiruvallikeni)
3. Kapaleeswarar Temple, Thirumayilai (this one and the no. 2 are like what makes Chennai what it is)
4. The Upper End of Marina Beach, near the Napier's Bridge (during sunrise times, its a famous spot for photography and exercises)
5. Kathipara Urban Square, Alandur (Asia's largest cloverleaf interchange, recently turned into a multimodal hub, and a ground-levelled fun spot)
6. Elliot's Beach, Besant Nagar (its famous for being silent, atleast compared to Marina Beach)
7. Broken Bridge, Adyar (visit at your own risk, and don't climb the bridge, because though its bloody beautiful but also filled with glass shards)
8. Thiru-vi-ka Bridge, Adyar (during sunrise or sunsets, its one of the best bridges)
9. Besant Avenue Road, Adyar and Besant Nagar (its a road, surrounded by a Theosophical society, which can also be visited, its very pleasant in mornings)
10. Pulicat Lake (a little detour, wait not a little, a BIGGG DETOUR, but a deserved DETOUR)
11. Mahabalipuram (Chennai's little vacation spot, its beautiful, and it can only be described visually if you go there)
it's not South India's Friendliest City. it's India's Friendliest City
