If anyone is watching these channels and is worried by how quick it is, a couple of things to consider: 1. Your average burglar is not going to be skilled, and is going to be throwing a brick through a window/kicking a door in/etc. anyway (or you’ll have left a door/window open). For your average thief, something LPL could deal with in five seconds may as well be one he couldn’t pick at all. If you do happen to have a lockpicking expert try to break in and you have superduper locks, he’ll try, fail.. then put a brick through a window anyway. 2. Most regular door locks can generally be bypassed anyway without picking it at all with a credit card frighteningly easily anyway, by just sliding it up the crack and pushing the latch in. Honestly, having Fort Knox-grade locks on your house probably won’t achieve anything but making you poorer.

Because only a fraction of a Promille of thieves are able to pick it at all. Don't take the extraordinary exceptions as representative of the average. You are pretty save with most decent locks; I would care more for brute force protection (strong frames and general construction, thought-through security protocols, like organizing who has access to what, maybe cameras or an alarm etc.). I would say most homes have weaknesses with weak windows, weak door frames or non-even security on all entrances (cheap backdoor?) or non-visible areas (thieves love them, they can spend more time doing bad stuff there without being afraid of being seen by neighbors, passerby etc.) Cheers!
@@TomJakobW The point is specifically that YOU ARE NOT SAFE WITH LOCKS. These locks only protect you against people WITHOUT THE WILL to pick your lock. The average lock-pick thief is not going to break into any moderately competent lock and wouldn't attempt to pursue a pick if he's unable to get in after a few minutes because the risk level goes up. The point: Get a decent lock. Get a decent frame. Protect your windows or use tempered windows where vulnerable. Use an alarm and labelling. The best way to stop thieves is to deter thieves. I know explanation vids exist, not sure if they are on LPL. Security pin: something other than standard, so spool or serrated or mushroom etc. watch enough videos of this kind and you’ll see those pins pass by and the naming is pretty self explanatory. Those are all designed to make it hard to feel when you’ve picked the pin. The anti bump pin protects against a bump key, which is essentially a technique where you use a specially cut key to bump against all pins simultaneously, and hopefully the driver pins all retreat into the Bible while the key pins stay within the core.
@@goodbyemr.anderson5065 The thing is, LPL explaining what each of those are has some genuine weigth behind it, as he displays proficiency in the art of it. On the other hand, Google can have false information popping up.

When watching these videos the first thing that comes to mind is - as a manufacture do not stick your company logo on the external-facing end of the lock, the second is don't call your lock 'Superior' when it only gets 1 star out of 3 for its security rating.
I would love to see LPL create challenging locks from ones he say would be good if they had false gates for instance, which I know in disc detainers would probably just need a little bite taken out of the discs.
These locks come standard in [Undisclosed Town in the UK], and always thought the keys were cool to show my friends at school. But uh...nice to see they were picked.
Pretty sure that locks with such cylinders advice against installing them upside down as a security liability. And LPL is always picking these euro cylinders upside down, where some security pins might not engage, etc.
The lock is in the vice upside down - that can't be for no reason so I wonder how much harder it is if this lock is in a door as a less favourable angle/orientation. I do think LPL ought to pick the locks in the position one would find the lock....
Debatable. In dry places they place them like this so dust and stuff like that doesn't fall in the pinholes. I'm in Europe and all ours are upside down compared to this one, but it's pretty standard in southern US and Australia. Prob some different countries too.
It is the same as the sicuremme series...appearance is solid, but at the core is cheply made and easily pickable. I suppose its strenght is the hardened connector that avoids snapping and breaking.
The fact that a standard junkie housebreaker willnae have the dexterity or education to follow this video I trust that my lock like this will hold up. Irrespective of how good your lock is it’s useless if you have windows as they can just get in with a brick
You wake up at night to the sound of your lock being raked. Raking a lock is essentially violating it franatically. You say K, but I hear P and it's the same thing to the lock I'd say. At the end the picker feels dirty and the lock depressed.
As someone who has never picked a lock, this series is amazing. But an episode like this always makes me wonder: Is there a technical reason why these companies don't include more "security pins"? I can't imagine they'd be considerably more expensive than standard pins and from what I've gathered from these videos, they do help to increase picking time. So... why not include them?
A) if they give the thirty dollar lock all the security pins, how would they sell the $200 lock? B) I imagine they do cost a bit more. They’re typically made from better materials, as well. When you make millions of locks, a penny or two per pin does add up. C) security pins are typically tighter toleranced. That means that as keys and locks wear, there’s gonna come a point where they stop working. And that might happen quicker with security pins. D) picking just isn’t a typical attack vector in most markets.
Because door technology will still be behind lock tech. Most criminals aren't lock pickers and kicking open a door or punching out the glass will negate any advantages of an expensive lock
I have just changed my locks to these Yale locks. I believe they are the only three star locks in the UK. What percentage, in your view, of illegal house entries are performed by picking the lock? I’d guess 0.1% or one in 1000, if that. The fact that you, one of the best lock pickers in the world can defeat it, (in lab conditions) shows great skills but no average picker could do it, in the dark and in a door. You give the impression that these are bad locks because you can pick them but give little credit to the anti drill features and the anti snap features on these locks, which is far more necessary to defeat the usual UK house breaker. I love your videos and your skills, extremely interesting, but they do not always reflect on the locks ability to stop what it is there for.
Would it not be more accurate if you picked the lock the correct way up? These locks are installed with the pins down, that’s why the logo’s oriented the other way. Surely that’s got to make a difference.
well, considering the area and area knowing I live here... this lock might be usefull. might need to upgrade the chain frame for the older woman in the house, when i am not around... but, it is good to know how the lock gets picked. i just hope it happens when i am at home or anywhere nearby :D i might send you some "after" pictures" :D
Hmm so... This could be repinned with serrated and spool pins and have a HUGE increase in security. adding a false gate to the sliders would also work fine, but I think that those are less standard.
I dont get why they do "normal" pins at all, when they could do all of them serrated or anti-bump? Sure its cheaper, but how much can it be to make them normal? You obviously already have the tools for serrated and anti-bump, why not just do all of them?
There's no such thing as a pick-proof lock; only greater degrees of pick-resistance. The function of a lock is to increase the risk:reward ratio. But if someone really, absolutely is determined to get in, when push comes to shove, they eventually will.
The problem is that strength of the lock is often more important than how difficult it is to lock. People trying to steal bikes or get through a gate might just try to break the chain

The fact that a standard junkie housebreaker willnae have the dexterity or education to follow this video I trust that my lock like this will hold up. Irrespective of how good your lock is it’s useless if you have windows as they can just get in with a brick
These videos are super great
You wake up at night to the sound of your lock being raked.
Man. Made your own lock and patient it.
God damn it. I have these locks.
Although weirdly my key definitely has 8 marks for pins.
I love your videos and your skills, extremely interesting, but they do not always reflect on the locks ability to stop what it is there for.
very well done my friend xerlent pick thanks stiglocks..r
great job buddy very nice👍😊😊😊😊😊
lpl becomes a chiropractor for a day.
This is a standard bone based disk lock.
A click out of disk 7.
3 is binding.
nice picking, would it be possible for you to test the anti snap features of this lock.
Nice narration
you are indeed an expert.....
He really is, but this lock is also hot fucking garbage.
Would it not be more accurate if you picked the lock the correct way up? These locks are installed with the pins down, that’s why the logo’s oriented the other way. Surely that’s got to make a difference.
And here we have a Mother Superior lock which refuses to take a key.
So how long does it take to put a lock like that back together?
About the same as taking it apart. Not hard if you understand the mechanism.
@@lockpickinglawyer hello
do you have any video on how you put it back together
thnx
you just destroyed my sense of security 😅
nice work on that lock only trouble you had was on the gutting LOL
excellent as usual!!
Love your videos. Makes me want to be a lock smith!
Great pick! I enjoyed the video a lot!
ah man I already ordered one and was like "yoo Im the king of door security now"
That lock’s old, it has the pre-EU British Standard “kite mark” that got replaced with the CE mark.
well, considering the area and area knowing I live here... this lock might be usefull. might need to upgrade the chain frame for the older woman in the house, when i am not around... but, it is good to know how the lock gets picked.
i just hope it happens when i am at home or anywhere nearby :D
i might send you some "after" pictures" :D
Ey, that's the type I have on my doors.
Lockpicking Lawyer has been added to FBI watchlist
Hybrid Spektar so they can learn how to do this?😂
2:50 that soft touch not for lock, it is for the engineer designed this lock :D
The first thing I think of when I hear "Yale" is that you can get in by paying.
Well it’s upside down, no wonder it doesn’t work well… 😎
Great job and video like always
Nice. i need to pick more locks with sliders :)
Could you have done this with the lock around the correct way? You had it upside down in the demo
We just picked up one of these thanks for the vid hope my pick goes as smoothly as yours 😬
Good luck... I’ve tried about a half dozen of these with the same results. Pretty unimpressed given the intimidating key.
Manufacturing costs cuts. These days you would call it, properly engineered.
You should design an unpickable lock with all this knowledge on locks.
The bowley lock seems to be one of the best locks. People seem to really struglle at opening it.
Ahh sidebars, I remember that in gm auto locks years back
Very interesting design
very nice spp'd thanks for explaining. 😎😎😎😎😎⛤
Got one of these the other day, wanted to try my first slider lock.
Spp"d it in about 15 mins, great lock for learning the basics
I wonder if it would be worth a video on sidebars, sliders , rotate and lift pins etc..
Bin at picking a week got padlocks cracked but this 7 pin lock is beating me I opened it once but a fluke well now I have a decent set of picks hopefully after watching u I mite get there
