I watch bewitched every day. Now. It was my favorite as a child in the 60s. BERNARD as Dr Bombay was absolutely brilliant... Thank you for such wonderful information on such a great actor
A lost treasure. As soon as I read "Dr Bombay" his image flashed into my head. Thank you for bringing back the memory of an actor that I always loved to see appear, wherever and whenever he appeared. Cheers!
Loved him as Dr. Bombay on Bewitched. He was also on an episode of the Jefferson's in which he was part of a murder mystery cruise. Thank you for sharing.
Another cool classic from Cool Classics, great work. As a child, I was quite ill, some extended stays in hospital or unable to get out and play when I was at home. The TV was my escape and all these classic shows were the hottest thing. In black and white as all this was before the colour TV days in Australia. My parents would laugh how I could not only remember the shows but the ads that accompanied them. Time and growth saw my improvement from a skinny kid with string thing legs, barely able to breath, to playing football (rugby league), leaving many in my wake. Sadly both of my parents have passed, along with quite a few friends and time is doing it's old trick on me. The wisest among us know not how soon hey? Your shows, clearly made from a place of love, not only rekindle such wonderful memories but help express the gratitude I feel to the wonderful people who sort to entertain us all and gave me emotional respite from the daily tribulations of my early life. Truly, thank you!
That was a great video as usual. Benard Fox was a great actor. Dr.Bombay!! I remember watching the reruns as a child during those nostalgic 1970s.I loved the jet setting doctor warlock. Bewitched ended it's run in 1972 I was 2 years old.Benard played the British roles very well.
I was born in 1961, and Mr. Fox was a constant. He had a fairly plug and play character - slightly off-kilter, bumbling but well-intentioned English eccentric with a good heart. He would pop up in a role and you felt immediately comfortable, and he always delivered.
Always loved the Hogan's Heroes episodes with Colonel Crittenden. The Crittenden Plan was the last episode I saw with him. (Have all 6 seasons!) I didn't know he was in The Mummy until I was watching it, I shouted" Colonel Crittenden!" Luckily I was watching it on dvd at home!
Thanks so much for this. Always liked him ever since childhood. I still say "Aint'cha kind," thinking of Malcolm Merriweather. He was in everything I watched growing up. Always wondered how he came to work in H'wood. These are the actors I always want to know more about. The Character Actors. Backbone of the industry.
I really enjoyed this tribute to Bernard Fox! I became familiar with him on Bewitched, and I have loved spotting his distinct voice in various films and tv shows over the years.
Bernard was a great guy. Like a second dad to me. He could be just as funny and entertaining as he was on-screen. Often he'd sing bawdy English Music Hall songs at dinner. A couple things. As for his father, after not seeing him for years, he ran into him going up the gang plank of the ship used in A Night to Remember... an early Titanic picture in which he played "Lookout Fleet"... a survivor. Bernard loved to joke that he went down on the Titanic twice and survived both times (Col. Gracie was also a survivor)! Bernard's youngest daughter, Valerie, tragically died in 2006 just a month before my dear Kasey [Rogers] did. And now his eldest daughter has also passed on. As of this posting Jacque is still doing well. A fun side note, Jacque is the daughter of Nat Holt a prominent Hollywood producer of Westerns (often starring Randolph Scott). At 16 she met a young Paramount starlet named Laura Elliot... and would not see her again for 40 years after Laura went back to her name of Kasey Rogers and long after both she and Bernard had been on Bewitched. It was a fun reunion and we all remained close until their passings...
Thank you so very much for putting this together. Bernard more than merited such a tribute/retrospective. He was always an absolute delight in whatever he did, and one of the mort prolific accomplished actors ever!!!
I loved him as a kid.. I’ve always remembered his face but never knew anything about him .. this was so well done, as usual! Thank you so much for the hard work and sharing it with us!
I loved his Malcolm Merriweather on the Griffith show! He showed such a soft heart in both episodes and I loved them both. I also loved when he said" Samantha! You plucked me off me dolphin!"
Another excellent video. Bernard Fox is an example of an incredible actor who effortlessly immersed himself in any role he was asked to play. This video is also an example of someone who does their homework. Good job and thanks.
It was those vignettes of characters in all those shows of the 60s and 70s that made the programs and thats what made those shows and movies into great classics. What a fantastic character and bloody great actor he gave many memorable experience on the screen.
This guy was a character I always enjoyed whenever he appeared. He was funny and classy and entertaining. Such a rare type of actor. Edit: What I really enjoyed about his characters is that he was pompishly arrogant and superior, yet he usually did not lord it over others or mock those around him. HIs characters seemed to always try to be helpful regardless of class or station. I remember him rarely putting others down and if he did so it was done hilariously.
I loved watching Dr. Bombay on Bewitched!! And I’ve never really known his name but I remember watching him on all those shows and movies. To me he was one of those actors you like, you’ve seen them a thousand times and always enjoyed them but, you have no idea who they are. Sad but true in my case. I certainly enjoyed every character he’s played. Enjoyed this video about him. Thanks! ❤️💜💚
Thank you for this one in particular. I have a real soft spot in my heart for good character actors, and this guy was amazing. There are very few people these days that have the ability to stay that busy for that long. Great video. 🏆
That was a great story. He always brought me such great laughs; when I saw come into a scene, I knew that a laugh was sure to follow and I could feel a smile coming onto my face. Just watching this episode did the same thing for me. It was truly a wonderful segment. Finally, I am very happy that he had a wonderful family and a long life, a man who brought such great joy to so many will not be easily forgotten.
An amazing talent who was fantastic in everything he in which he appeared. I used to love watching the Dr. Bombay episodes of Bewitched. He will be missed.
Oh my goodness I was born in 1990 and I was a nik at nite kid every night. I watched them all. And when I saw “the mummy” I was like hey it’s Dr Bombay! But I never checked IMDb. I love hearing that story with Brendan Fraser. I always loved the mummy. Thank you!
I'd assumed (based only on my viewings of 'Bewitched' on UK television) that Bernard Fox was American but had developed an excellent English accent! I was therefore surprised to hear that he WAS British and was actually born in Wales (like me). Many thanks for another very interesting and enjoyable video.
Benard was a gem that always seemed to shine bright in any TV production he was in. I first remember seeing him in the Bewitched series, and always enjoyed those episodes.
On the theater marquee in the background of an early clip when you're talking about his birth, A Town Like Alice. One of my all time favorite books! Didn't know it was a movie, too, so of course I had to look it up and put it on a playlist ;-) Thanks for that! lol. And thanks for this bio. I love these actor bios, and Dr. Bombay is one of my fave characters from Bewitched. I really enjoyed seeing the clips from all the other shows he was in, too.
You forgot to mention that he had a part in another Titanic movie "A Night to Remember (1958) where he delivered the line "Iceberg dead ahead, sir!" while playing the part of the sailor in the ship's crow's nest.
🤗🤭 A wonderful character actor .And it was nice to see him again, in my favorite movie 🎥of all time - Titanic 1997.He will surely be remembered for many years to come....
Many British and Canadian service people were seconded to the US Forces in WW1 to help build an experienced cadre. One of the best known is Harold E. Hartney (sometimes referred to as that "wild Canadian) who commanded the 27th Aero Squadron and wrote a terrific book called "Up and At Em".
At the time G.S. Patton was a Captain, the very first U.S. Tank Corps was just forming a training school. The tanks being used until late in the war were French and British tanks (and German), and in instances like with the men under Captain Dwight Eisenhower the men had to train in trucks with guns strapped to them. I would guess if you wanted men actually experienced in operating tanks, you would have to borrow some from the British and French to avoid having a machine full of guys trying to figure out how the thing worked in the middle of combat.
May I suggest a deep dive on actress June Lockhart. She is 96 years old and still alive. She's a TV legend that I saw constantly when I was growing up.
EXCELLENT video. I had no idea Bernard Fox had such a long and varied acting career in U.S. tv. I guess I only remembered him from Andy Griffith, Bewitched, and Hogan's Heroes. And such a wonderful man he was in real life. Thank you for posting this video.
Loved him on Bewitched. That was great that he was on all those shows. Great actor. Glad to know he was married for a long time. Great that he was in the movie Titanic. He will be remembered for ever.
Thank you. I remember most of those from childhood. Forgot about all the good shows that used to be on the TV. I wish they would put those kinds of shows back on, might have a reason to watch TV again if they did.
Wow I had no idea how much acting he did!!! I knew him as Dr Bombay since I’ve always loved Bewitched. I remember him on Titanic and I loved the guy. I have caught him on other shows you mentioned here. What a wonderful man, indeed!!! There’s so many shows here I’d love to go back and watch now.
Another of my all-time favorites! I never saw him play a bad guy, so your 2 examples (Burke's Law & his 1st movie role) were a complete surprise. I can't tell you how *thrilled* I was when I saw him in Titanic and then in The Mummy. He was adorable! Seeing him in a movie or show was like 'comfort food' to me. So *happy* to hear that Brandon Frasier revered and honored him as much as I would have, had I'd had the joy of meeting him! Thank you, so very much, for allowing me to hear about another undersung actor that we 'boomers' were blessed with! Take care and God bless!
Very Interesting. I've watched him many times when I was a boy, WWWest, Hogan's,and in the movies, like The Mummy but never really knew is name. He flew under the radar. Nice Job.
Like Paul Lynde, he appeared in one episode of Bewitched (as Osgood Rightmire in Disappearing Samantha) & then had a character invented for him soon after. He was a one of a kind actor who made everyone around him look better. I think that was his secret.
There's a good reason why he was in so many shows. He makes people laugh AND he makes the star of the show look good. That's hard to do and he did it consistently, enough that he had reoccuring roles on multiple shows. He played "The Bombastic Fool" like a MasterClass. You'd think at some point someone would have offered him his own show but he was so busy over many years that he probably did pretty well for himself and his family.
Thanks for this one. I had requested a video about him some time ago, and you never disappoint. Words cannot describe how enjoyable it is to reminisce about great times with you. Please never stop.
I totally remember your comment the first time! I wrote him down on my research list, then life got the best of me for 6 months, but I came back to finish my Hogan's Heroes and Bewitched series. I really do appreciate you always being cool to me! :)
I enjoyed this very much. Thank you so much for making his role as Malcolm Merriweather the last one, the "crown" of his career so far as I am concerned. Malcolm was/is one of my very favorite characters on The Andy Griffith Show. I don't remember the "tinker with the hooter" line, so I will have to get out my DVD and watch for it. I am such a "Malcolm" fan that I once boiled a dozen eggs, drew faces on them (using my DVD on pause for a model) and gave them to my son on his birthday, as he is a great Mayberry fan also. I also got on eBay and purchased British coins in the monetary values that Malcolm mentions on the show with each coin in one of the years he was on the show or if I could not find one in one of those years, I bought one in my own birth year. Yeah, sounds a bit silly, but all in fun. One of my favorite Malcolm lines was when Andy told him it was going to cost $40 to fix the damage he caused. "Fourteen pounds, ten shillings and thruppence three farthings!??" That's the line that got me buying the coins. Thanks again for making this video in honor of one of my favorite comedy actors from times past.
🇬🇧 Bernard was the hardest working man on television it seems like. I had no idea he was in so many great classic T.V. shows. It's too bad he didn't do any appearances on the classic 1960s show, The Avengers. ❤
Bernard Fox was my favorite English character actor. I liked him as Malcolm Merriweather on The Andy Griffith Show. I liked him as Doctor Bombay on Bewitched. I liked him as Colonel Crittenden on Hogan's Heroes. He knew just how to be funny to an American TV audience.
Wow!!! That video was loaded with great information. Bernard Fox is one of my favorite actors of all time. And this video reallly showcased him well. Learn something new everyday. Thanks Cool Classics.
I never knew He had such a diverse career. I always known him as that British Guy who was in Bewitched. Thank You for this deep dive into his life. I found this video fascinating
Outstanding episode! He also played a witch expert on an earlier episode of Bewitched. Samantha was worried he was going to reveal her as a witch to the neighbors 🤙
Yeah this is a bit crazy, However, back when I was in Junior high school , I spent the night over at my neighbors house, And the next day after waking up, All of us got up to eat some cold breakfast cereals, And my friends mother had a pile of play-girl magazines sitting on one of the living room cabinets, And like a nosy kid, I really wanted to see what-all was inside of one of those things??, I went over there and picked up one of those Magazines and looked inside, And what all do I see??, It’s a full page color picture of Dr. BombayBombay, fully nude , Oh I learned to mind my own business, Calling dr. Bombay, Emergency, Come right away Oh brother
Yay! Thank you! I started on it, then got sick and had to stop. You can hear my voice change towards the end, while I was recovering I finished it. I was hoping That I didn't lose my flow to it, with the delay. Happy that you liked it so much :)
Hello i recently watched you UA-cam video on Bernard Fox. You asked a question about how Bernard's father served in the American Tank Corp. The answer might be the like my Grandfather who was in the United States of America from 1912 until the Lusitania was sunk basicly my grandfather was trapped in the United States and joined the American Army to get home. My grandfather received an honorable discharge and also recevied US Citizenship and in the 1930's he recevied his war pension I hope this help out
I watch bewitched every day. Now. It was my favorite as a child in the 60s. BERNARD as Dr Bombay was absolutely brilliant... Thank you for such wonderful information on such a great actor
He was such a great and so memorable character in whatever he was in!
Well said. I agree!
He sure was!
A lost treasure. As soon as I read "Dr Bombay" his image flashed into my head. Thank you for bringing back the memory of an actor that I always loved to see appear, wherever and whenever he appeared. Cheers!
One of the all time best Character Actors. Charming and amusing is what he did. Glad to hear he lived a long life.
Colonel Crittenden!!
Loved him as Dr. Bombay on Bewitched. He was also on an episode of the Jefferson's in which he was part of a murder mystery cruise. Thank you for sharing.
When I was a kid I wanted to call Dr Bombay!
Another cool classic from Cool Classics, great work.

Thank you for this telling of the life and work of one of my favorite tv and movie characters. Thank you, so very much.

Loved to see an "old friend" from so many shows in rare form again.
Fox was also in the Titanic movie "A Night To Remember" in 1958 playing a lookout.
Bernard Fox is a character I remember so well through many of the shows you enumerated. Thank you for the upload.
I really enjoyed this tribute to Bernard Fox! I became familiar with him on Bewitched, and I have loved spotting his distinct voice in various films and tv shows over the years.
I'm so glad I watched this. He's a most beloved character in many of the best shows of the day that I remember well.
Yes! Exactly my same feeling!
Bernard was a great guy. Like a second dad to me. He could be just as funny and entertaining as he was on-screen. Often he'd sing bawdy English Music Hall songs at dinner.

@@CoolClassics very welcome
Thanks for the personal insight!
So they both did a Titanic movie and a mummy movie, that's wild
How did his daughters both die at early age, before 60 is early to me
Always enjoyed seeing Bernard Fox in different shows.
Dr. Bombay was a great character. Thanks for this video, he led a very interesting life.
Thank you so very much for putting this together. Bernard more than merited such a tribute/retrospective. He was always an absolute delight in whatever he did, and one of the mort prolific accomplished actors ever!!!
A great presence from my childhood TV watching. Clip from Andy Griffith reminded me what a straight-up genius Don Knotts was.
I loved him as a kid.. I’ve always remembered his face but never knew anything about him .. this was so well done, as usual! Thank you so much for the hard work and sharing it with us!
Thank you so much!!

Glad you enjoyed it
I never knew how much I admired this British actor, however I love your films.
💗🥰thanks for recognizing him! He was great, in every sense of the word!
I totally agree!

Absolutely loved his voice and presence in whatever he did…a great showman/character actor…they are the best

Genius to be in character, over the top and endearing.

I so loved Benard. Who couldn't love this guy. Great actor and comedian.
An amazing talent who was fantastic in everything he in which he appeared. I used to love watching the Dr. Bombay episodes of Bewitched. He will be missed.

😁
Like Vincent Price, born in St Louis?
He was THE absolute best!!! Thank you for this! I learned so many interesting tidbits about him.
Benard was a gem that always seemed to shine bright in any TV production he was in. I first remember seeing him in the Bewitched series, and always enjoyed those episodes.
You always dig up the most interesting stuff! Keep poking-around those rabbit-holes! The resulting videos are worth the effort 👌 Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, will do!
That was a wonderful stroll down memory lane, thanks!
On the theater marquee in the background of an early clip when you're talking about his birth, A Town Like Alice. One of my all time favorite books! @Alan Crisp.
The first time I saw Titanic I said, "There's Doctor Bombay! Emergency! Come Right Away!"
I went on to see it four times in the theatre.
Awesome! Thank You for sharing that! 👍
Met a Canadian who joined the American army to fight in Vietnam. When he told his pop he had dual citizenship his dad decked him.
At the time G.S. Patton was a Captain, the very first U.S. Tank Corps was just forming a training school. In 1939-40 some Americans fought with the R.A.F. before we joined the war but I never heard of them taking British citizenship.
Good to know, thanks.
You pick the most interesting actors. Great job as usual. I didn’t realize he was in so many movies and tv shows. I should have. I loved Bewitched.
Thank You :)
It is amazing how some of these people we have seen a million times, but do not really know much about them.
you do this so well thank you for filling in the blanks on Bernard Fox.
I am glad that you appreciated the video and enjoyed his career.
I love making videos on these deserving actors, that do not get enough recognition :)
Yes so many characters that he played so well. What a vast career ! Thanks for all the great detail.
Thank you!! I just love that man!!!
Me too!
Thank you he was always one of my favorite character actors
May I suggest a deep dive on actress June Lockhart. She is 96 years old and still alive. She's a TV legend that I saw constantly when I was growing up.

Glad you enjoyed it
Loved him on Bewitched. That was great that he was on all those shows. Great actor. Glad to know he was married for a long time. Great that he was in the movie Titanic. He will be remembered for ever.
I love Bernard Fox's work. To me, he stole the show in every part he played, no matter how small. RIP Bernard Fox.❤
Thank you. I remember most of those from childhood. Forgot about all the good shows that used to be on the TV. I wish they would put those kinds of shows back on, might have a reason to watch TV again if they did.

This one was especially delightful! Thank you for all of your wonderful research.

I wrote him down on my research list, then life got the best of me for 6 months, but I came back to finish my Hogan's Heroes and Bewitched series. I really do appreciate you always being cool to me! :)
So busy so talented and you did a great job putting it together. Crittenden - that’s my memory of him.
Crittenden was my first memory of him too :)
Excellent video. It seemed that he had a wonderfully fulfilling life, with a loving family and great career. RIP
✨Bernard Fox is one of my top favorite actors! Thank you so much for this video!!! ☺️
My pleasure!
The laugh he does as doctor Bombay on bewitched is absolutely priceless and makes you laugh no matter how many times you've seen it
This was such an amazing video! Thanks for your hours of hard work.
Thank You for watching and noticing the efforts :)

"Fourteen pounds, ten shillings and thruppence three farthings!??" That's the line that got me buying the coins.
Thanks again for making this video in honor of one of my favorite comedy actors from times past.
💜🙏
🇬🇧 Bernard was the hardest working man on television it seems like. I had no idea he was in so many great classic T.V. shows. It's too bad he didn't do any appearances on the classic 1960s show, The Avengers. ❤
Bernard Fox was my favorite English character actor. I liked him as Malcolm Merriweather on The Andy Griffith Show. I liked him as Doctor Bombay on Bewitched. I liked him as Colonel Crittenden on Hogan's Heroes. He knew just how to be funny to an American TV audience.
He really was perfect for all of those roles :)
I really enjoyed this...he was a favorite character in my childhood
This was fantastic to watch! It was a feel-good 21 minutes of memories. Well done.
I am glad you liked it!
I only make videos on people I like, so it I get a kick out of seeing other people enjoy them too :)
Bob.USA. He was great.Made me remember Dr Bombay,and Col.Crittenden
.Thanks for the memory's.
Loved him on Bewitched. Also in Big Jake with John Wayne.
Always looked forward to seeing him.
Outstanding episode! He also played a witch expert on an earlier episode of Bewitched. Samantha was worried he was going to reveal her as a witch to the neighbors 🤙
This was absolutely wonderful! Thank you for posting. I always loved this guy. DA
In a show full of amazing characters appearances from Dr. Bombay were always a highlight!
I agree :)
Character actors don't get enough love.
I'm pleased that "Dr. Bombay" lived to be (89.) Bernard Fox was such a versatile actor. 👍😎
He was a treasure!
What a wonderful tribute!
You are back! Im so glad. This was excellent. I love how you give us long clips and such interesting information.
More to come!
Yeah the bit with the Nurse was great
Yeah this is a bit crazy,
However, back when I was in Junior high school ,
I spent the night over at my neighbors house,
And the next day after waking up,
All of us got up to eat some cold breakfast cereals,
And my friends mother had a pile of play-girl magazines sitting on one of the living room cabinets,
And like a nosy kid,
I really wanted to see what-all was inside of one of those things??,
I went over there and picked up one of those
Magazines and looked inside,
And what all do I see??,
It’s a full page color picture of
Dr. BombayBombay, fully nude ,
Oh I learned to mind my own business,
Calling dr. Bombay,
Emergency,
Come right away
Oh brother
This is probably your best video yet! Great job! 😄
Yay! Thank you!
I started on it, then got sick and had to stop. You can hear my voice change towards the end, while I was recovering I finished it. I was hoping That I didn't lose my flow to it, with the delay. Happy that you liked it so much :)
I did not know he appeared in so many productions. The other character actor I remember from the 1960's & 1970's is Vito Scotti!
Yes, I need to make a video on him too!
Bernard was always a great addition to any project he played in. It warms my heart to know that he had a wonderful life.
I feel the same way
Awesome video!! I remember watching him quite of few classic shows . Thank you.
My grandfather received an honorable discharge and also recevied US Citizenship and in the 1930's he recevied his war pension
I hope this help out
I went to the movies with my aunt to see The Private Eyes. I still love that movie, but can't find it anywhere.
