THE BLACK ICE- SNOWKITING ON A FROZEN LAKE

What wonderful memories of the Wissa 2016 in Estonia, but this time without water on the ice  Racing isn’t anymore the most important for us, but racing on black ice is just so much fun! Thanks to Max, Martin, Valentin and Ronny for the fun on the «Silsersee» !

to commenter below---this surface is not melted, it is freshly frozen black ice. (it looks black because there was no air entrained in the water as it froze. It is probably a couple of inches thick. One can skate on remarkably thin ice if you keep moving. The sounds that you hear are unique to thin black ice.

Just WOW! So beautiful and different. Without the melted top layer do you think it would be possible to hold the edges that well? I have limited experience - mixed snow/pure ice, and on the ice it was impossible to edge hard with ski.

I'm far from an expert on winter sports but guessing thin ice, possibly better weight distribution with skis at the cost of some performance.

Skates are a bit too unstable, even tour skates with a 50cm blade and alpine bindings and boots. Ice hockey skates are very unstable

What type of skis do you use ? If I use my skis on pure ice like that there is no way I could to this, only on snow.

Great, Ozone and Flysuef together, the footages matter more than the brand ! I am not a snow expert, but seems to me that there is a risk of ice collapsing
