Congrats on getting the bike running. I'm really enjoying the video series and I'm doing the same thing right now on a Canadian 86 RZ350! Mine is in very similar condition. I just changed the 20+ yr old tires and had to cut them off with a angle grinder. I was amazed at how little smoke came out of your bike when you got it running - my first start made it look like my garage was on fire!
Glad to know someone finds them interesting if a bit long. As you might have seen I just put in premixed fuel.Maybe it was a bit light on 2 stoke oil. I have yet to hook up the two stoke pump.
what a beautiful motorcycle, I have one just like it, can you share the diagram of the electrical system please, I can't get the manual in my country, greetings from Peru.
Hi a great site that has lots of RD and RZ information is rd350lc.net/ and here is a Yamaha RD350 1985 official specification documents all be it in French but easy to translate. The last page has the wiring diagram in colour. rd350lc.net/RD350N-F-serviceinfo.pdf
The hose leaving the filler cap at 6:51 it heads off to the expansion tank and connects in the bottom of the white tank. Its only 12" long curls round to the tank located in the frame at the headstock. The two stroke oil tank has two inlets located at the back of the bike? You can see the expansion tank at 4:34 next to the red funnel.
I only have the one pipe coming into the expansion bottle on mine, there is no second pipe. But I suspect the top one on yours is the overflow and would route down to the very bottom of the engine, so it dribbles out on the floor if every too much fluid is in the system.
Thanks for sharing that Magical Moment when sleeping beauty wakes up.... Magic Mate purring like a kitten

Great video, fantastic that it started virtually on the first kick. Pity you lost courage and 'got off the bike' to kick start it.
