The World's Craziest Scooter! Yambretta RD350 2 Stroke

- We think we might have found the worlds coolest two stroke Scooter! Here at 999lazer we love 2 Stroke motorcycles and we love a great story...and this video features both! This is this the Yambretta RD350 owned by Jed Thomson. The bike might look like a vintage Lambretta but it's powered by the legendary Yamaha RD350 / RZ350 YPVS motor. This might just be as much fun as you could ever have on the road.
A big thanks goes to Jed for sharing this incredible story with us.

God bless Jed for such an amazing tribute to his brother 👌🏻
Rest in peace Jamie 🙏🏻
Thanks shaun
One hell of a scoot about! Idk how you rode it, I would of been sweating bullets lol
In 1986 I was 16. My dad offered me his 1973 RD 350. I turned him down. I thought it was too old. He gave the bike to a so called friend. Who parted it out. It was a running fully functioning bike. All these years later. I am still kicking myself in the butt!!!!
Agonising 😢
Had one. It was awesome.
My first bike in 73 was the 72 R5……..it was a sweet bike!
Should of took it bro smh
Should've Could've Would've. But, you didn't. ☹
That thing looks like a blast to ride.Brave man riding a RD YVPS 350 powered scooter on wheel barrow tyres 💪💪💪Thanks for the 2stroke content max and the story behind this machine
No problem, thanks for watching (as always)
Remember there's a racing series in Italy for scooters. Malossi, Polini & Athena all have entries. The classes are super competitive, witth 100cc pocket rockets putting out over 25-30hp
Also check out the drag racers.
That would frighten me to get aboard that but what a Fine Tribute to Jamie and I’m sure he’s up above saying to everyone look what my Brother’s been and done for me 🤗🤛💨😁
Theyve been about since around 1989,originally the Alan Rosa 350,ridden one myself back 8n about 95 ,yes insane bit of kit
Wheel barrow tyres mmm that’s a little far off the mark
Touching story and a absolute piece of art. What a incredible build.
I had Li Frame with a 225, engine AF exhaust, 34mm Amal Powerjet Carb and that scared me to death, this is something else. Such a beautifully engineered bike and a real tribute to your Bruv, thank you for your service Jed.
The Yamaha 350 twin 2 stroke engines are so much fun. I had a blast riding the Banshee that my brother used to have. I also had a friend who put one of them in a golf cart which was a truly terrifying experience. Very cool scooter, thanks for sharing Jed!
I have ridden the RD125LC , an RD 200 air cooled, and always had a hankering for an RD 350…. And I’ve always loved scooters
These days I have a Hayabusa I pootle about on, but I love scooters and I’d love this one. Thanks for showing it off mate and god bless your brother - please know he took your love with him
Fair play to you mate biggest respect for the service and the power of love for the brother you lost ,, scooter is awesome,,☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
as an RD350 & RD250 fanatic and owner I 100% approve and love this build, have considered something similar and a few other builds with the Yamaha 250 & 350 engine platform that'll hopefully come to fruition fairly soon. 😈🤙
Now that's a true tribute to his brother.
Love the build and the ypvs was the right choice in reality. Low down control 👍
you can tell how much it means to Jed, and what an awesome way to remember Jamie . Thanks for watching
I couldn't imagine life without my brother. This is a brilliant tribute.
Beautiful job on the bike. Rd / rz swaps are always great. Looks heaps dangerous be careful on it and enjoy it.
Awesome! Looks mint and way faster than anyone would expect!
Thanks for watching
It's very cool that his brothers memory lives on in his scooter. I have an older brother so I know brotherly love. Great content
Guys tearing up even after all those years gone. Brilliant video. Great tribute. Awesome bike
Amazing scooter ! Respect from the Glasgow Rangers lads 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
That’s a superb tribute love this story well done fella
The second one I’ve seen on UA-cam in a wk , a scoot with a rd 350 motor , but really a death trap with tiny wheels , however thumbs up for the work , thought and scratching heads , a lot of spanner works , blood sweat and tears , cheers shane uk
What a nice bit of kit and a tribute to your bro you can’t beat the sound of a 350 LC when the power valve opens and then the ploom of blue smoke I had a 350 ypvs and spent most of the time on the back wheel how do you keep it down when the reeds open keep on biking mate
Aww sweet this is the neatest one I've ever seen well done fantastic tribute r.i.p Jamie
Fantastic episode. Thanks guys/girls.
Absolutely brilliant, gave me a huge smile
What a great build, a lot of thought has gone into it ,credit to the person who created it.
Awesome bike and f’n awesome memory my friend! 👌👍🏴
Respect, what a tribute.
Rip Jamie. Your yambretta rocks!
beautiful tribute, sick scooter! built a honduki that went like the clappers many years ago. lol
Amazing Tribute, RIP Jamie 🙏
Looks and sounds beautiful...Having a bad day, no problem just take this sweet little rocket out for a ride...
Pretty sure they made an rd 500 also. Basically a 500 twin banshee . Now that would be a badass hybrid build for something.
That wheelbase tho .. bet it would be pretty slick on a drag strip
Amazing m8 RIP to Jamie 🛵❤
extra props to Jim for not putting his feet at a right angle whilst he drives the lambretta & doesn't have 100 mirrors attached like the rest of the folk that drive these bikes.
You simply cannot beat a 2 stroke sound 🎶✅🔥
Nice build but there are a few more out there in the UK - there is a really nice one done in Kenny Roberts colours 👍
I loved my 1984 RZ350, all 340 pounds of her ❤
Respect from Indonesia
Let him know steering damper wise, have alook at the lambettas that race in the bsso race series in the UK, they attach them to the fork leg to the bottom off front frame, works realy well, realy help under hard breaking, from 90 and 100 they don't half get a wobble on with the 4 pots they run, especialy if the frame hasent got a bar in middle depending on the class its inn
Oh yes!!! blast that thing away from the lights and turn some heads
That thing looks amazing and what a story good work
Feckin awesome!
Thanks for watching Tom
I had a Casal Boss 49cc that went 115 kph with two teenagers on it…❤❤❤
Awesome ✌🏻
Thanks for watching
Cagiva Mito with rd350 engine. Please do it mate
Amazing Scooter !!!!!
I can smell this 2stroke from my smartphone.... Thank you
Wow! a crazy machine. Ride In Peace Jamie.
This is just sick🤘
Thanks Carter
@999lazer Have you seen Casa Performance 250 twin lambretta? Thats the world craziest scooter😉 +70hp one off twin 2-stroke billet engine😍 Edit: 76whp with some 28-32mm dellortos on.. With some 36-38mm keihin pwk:s there would be even more but who Really needs that much on lambretta anyway😅
Love this ❤
Max, thats a RZ engine with the powervalve...
At least is it here in the US. We didnt get the RD/LC here, unfortunately..😢
Yes I believe Yamaha called in the RD in Europe and the RZ in the USA
@@999lazer
RD LC england = RZ usa
did this guy who build yellow lambretta with same engine?
Must be missing something, have owned 250 and 350 stock🤔 how does the front wheel stay on the ground in that configuration.
I was asking myself the same question having owned a rd350 in the late 80s two up would still wheel stand in third but not only that, wouldn’t stop either😂.
This Lambretta could have ridden with the Scooters from Heck.
Wish I could find one of these engines
Max do a kx rm cr 125 shootout
How about this one :) ua-cam.com/video/mPZQp8hH4os/v-deo.html
Amazing
Love this .......
Thanks Scott
I'm thinking about building an old Vespa with a CR500 engine in it....I have quite a few engines.
They’ve been putting them in lammys for years , I’ve saw a CR 250 in one and a DRZ 400 in one. Worked at a scooter shop a few years back.
Sorry to hear about y bro I lost m too rember hasings back in the 8 tees. When that all locket is down oñ the càmp site
Top content ❤
Thank you
If you change a bike more than a certain amount you have to tax it I think.
Not sure how they quantify it but they class it as a newer vehicle if it's changed too much.
Be good if he used a twist grip shifter, not numbered but just sequencial. One back the rest forward etc.
Prefer dirt bikes myself but you have to appreciate a good bike when you see one
Is that basically a banshee motor with power valves?
Jed--you CAN add a steering damper! It goes between the legshield and fork. Here's one on Shiny Red! He's on your side of the pond. ua-cam.com/users/shortsCOI3JS61KXI
I saw another Yambretta (also with RD350 motor) at a rally in Gettysburg, PA here stateside about 12 years ago. It wasn't quite so clean. :-)
hearing a brit say hes chilln w the hells angels is a joke XD come on over and try to chill with the US hells angels on that thing bahahah
Awasome😎😎
I Really Hate Scooters & Mopeds….. But This Thing is Absolutely Beautiful 🥹🖤🦾
Thanks for watching Jay
I had 1 fast as a r1 to 100 mph
Check out my brand new scooter reveal video! 🟣
I wonder how much something like that would cost to build . $8000-$12000??
Top scooter ❤️👌
Mantap
Just messaged to get a biuld... Check book out time
Heres to your brother man. Anyone who doesn't have brothers has absolutely no clue how strong brothers love is. To lose that is....well...after how many years it's still bringing a 20 year British Marine to tears. I'm a U.S.A. force recon Marine scout sniper and I can tell you British Marines are hard as fuc&. Thanks for this episode man. Definitely one of your best.
I remember the SEAL's coming to Hamworthy for some SBS training, they marched on in seeing these scruffy chaps just lounging about and it took half a day to have them chaps visiting absolutely bursting at the seams and hating on the scruffy lot, they would leave different chaps wiser by a long yard.
Great tribute with a Corps connection too 👍
To absent friends 🍻
PMPT
unfortunately not all brothers are good for anything...
When you see a loud scooter with 2 massive pipes blowing smoke all the way, that is far from being unsuspecting
The craziest 2 stroke scoot I have seen so far
Thanks for watching
What a wonderful story and machine I fully appreciate this as I put a TZ350G in the road 30 years ago and currently riding a Monkey Bike but its a TS125 twin Suzuki Stinger powered with expansions.
sounds awesome, thanks for watching
What a lovely tribute to his brother, don't know what you're going to do next Max, you like to keep us guessing.
haha, we've got some cool things coming Kevin. thanks for watching as always :)
Now that's real love and immense respect for his brother Jamie, Jed's a top man for doing this scooter, sorry for your loss Jed.
Thanks for taking the time to comment Adam. I know Jed will be made up by all the awesome messages like this.
This has been done before, one of these we created back in 1988 with a 450 kit on the power valve engine. Also one of the group had a GPZ1100 lump with a turbo. Nice clean well engineered conversion nice job
Even the standard lambrettas go a bit of get up and go I could only imagine this little weapon 😂 most fun you'll have is on a small cc 2 stroke you ring the neck of it everywhere lol rip to his bro Jamie aswell
nice video max ! that thing is nuts !
Thanks Pete, we loved it when we saw (and heard it)
@@999lazer yes bro it sounds sick ! rip jamie
Loving this video and the story behind the build.
Thank you. It will mean a lot to Jed
what a great thing to do for his late brother 2 strokes for ever even with small wheels, respect
Thanks for watching Arthur :)
For those wondering about the development of the 350 lambretta it all belongs to Alan Rosser may he rest in peace
I second this comment .
I bet that deep down, some of the "Hells Angels" who caught up with him were a tiny bit jealous of his Yambaretta.
Great video and story Max. Like you guy's, I'm a bit of a sucker for anything 2 stroke, the sound of that sweet 350 is a soundtrack of my youth. Keep the variety in your content, it is what sets you guy's apart
Thanks Michael, really appreciate the comment :)
Great video man! What does a moped and a fat chick have in common? Their both fun to ride till your friends see you! 😉
I'm disappointed sorry 4t it was the one that was on top gear ....because I knew the person who actually build a lambretta rd350 ypvs .he lived in preston I use to visit. Him with all the blue prints on his wall ..but this is a nice story about your brother....its the same colour as well as .....RESPECT for your service
It is an Amazing memory of vis brother, se can feel that he put all his heart in this build and this is beautiful ✨
Rest in peace Jamie 👼
Class build ,love it ,the colour is nice ,absolutely stunning Jed,l bet it’s stunned a
few other riders as it flys off ,leaving just that two stoke smell and smoke😎
Well , that’s a good story and a Nice machine .
Must have been a lovely git to have such a memorial...
u must come to thailand or indonesia, there are crazy drag bike using two stroke 150 cc engine from kawasaki krr, and they tune it as fast as they can. in indonesia u can come to tekno tuner (u can see their videos on youtube)
I can’t wait for the 500cc fuel injection build awesome video as always keep up the good work Max
Thanks Max. The next episode of the 500i build will be next weeks video :)
I really like that sits nice and is so well engineered. Respect
Back in the day there was a scooter race series, scouts honour! Quite a few had RD motors and other 2t transplants. The racing was brilliant, absolute mayhem.
Great that you featured this beautiful Scoot, cheers.
Thanks Mark
Back in the day? There still is, incredibly well supported too. Classes for every type of scooter imaginable from classic Vespas and Lambrettas in every capacity and all stages of tune as well as all the newer twist 'n go automatics.
@@terrycolley6482 That is excellent to hear! I no longer live in the UK and the racing scene here is limited in comparison.
I took my Primavera round Lydden Hill track a few times in the eighties, man I was awful and my poor little primmy got pretty beat up, bought it for £150 from a chap who spent fortunes getting it tuned up and built by Midland Scooter Centre and Taffspeed, first day I rode it went at it thinking "its only a 125"... flipped it over on my back the wheelie was so powerful turned turtle on me and I could wheelie in all gears and rarely used first cos of the turtling lol
Met the guy and bike in a pub car park nice guy great bike
Everyone should have a brother called Jed,God bless x
