Véry proud to be a Brabander! Some 15 years ago hubby, kids and I went on a holiday to France for three weeks. Camping. Had so much fun but at the start of the last week hubby and kids got seriously sick from botulism. It was 40°C and they couldn't even hold a sip of water. Diarrhea, throwing up (medication came out just as fast as it went in) it was a nightmare. I literally didn't sleep for 48 hours as I was constantly taking care of them, washing bed linnen and boxers, walking with buckets filled with vomit during the night across the campingsite towards the toilet buildings... 4 days later they started to feel better and we decided to pack up and go home. Guess what the first song was that was being played by our car cd player. Yep, Brabant. I cried for at least half an hour. I love this song, always sing it out loud whenever I hear it but it always makes me think about that moment in the car when I heard Guus sing " I've never really been homesick before". Man, I felt that! I didn't want to GO home, I wanted to BE home.
Hell yeah, best place on earth. Something that doesn't need convincing to anyone. Doesn't need confirmation or expression. It just simply is there. The pride is internal, heartfelt. etched in to our souls.

As someone who´s from Brabant this song hits home time and time again. Being in 's-hertogenbosch (in the provincie noord-brabant) now, listening to this song I can tell you the singer is right to sing about Brabant like this! I am born and grew up here, living in Rotterdam since my 19th. It took a while for me to get used to the people in Rotterdam, missing Brabant as home'town' and i stayed connected to Brabant for my study and because of my family and friends living here. I am almost sure, that even if i live for 17 years outside of Brabant now, it will be 's-hertogenbosch i will be thinking about when i feel homesick once living in Norway, because of my family, friends, and all the memories built up in my youth.
I'm not from Brabant but my oldest brother lives there for many years already. It's different from where I live (also nice btw) but Brabant is more 'the good life'. Good food, relaxed people, 'bourgondisch' as we say (google translates it with burgundy, but I think that's not correct. That's more a color). The dialect is with the soft g and they have a couple of expression they ONLY use there. The moment they say 'it's KEIGOED' (stone/rock good, meaning that it's really great) you just know that person is from Brabant.

i am so proud to be a brabander the people are nice they have one of the most beautifull festivals in brabant in my opinion is that GLOW in the city of light named eindhoven. this is my favourite Dutch artist because he is always himself and with his concerts in the Philips stadium in Eindhoven the whole croud that are standing on the field or are sitting on a chair in the stadium are one big family almost everyone sing together as one big family together with his songs specialy this one Brabant
in 17 Years had 70 concerts in the Philips Stadium which is owned by PSV FootballClub in Eindhoven, Brabant, called "Groots met een zachte G" (great with a soft G), in 17 years over 2,4 million people visited the concerts, which him in the Guiness Book of Records.
Highly, (Noord-) Brabant is one of the best places in the world!!!! Guus Meeuwis made this song the anthem of our great province in The Netherlands. And my Eindhoven heart is going wild since this concert was in the PSV Stadium, the best football (not soccer) club in The Netherlands!

The reason why Americans call the Netherlands "Holland" is because they mainly know the Dutch as traders and seamen and almost all of those came from the Protestant urban area and many of the founding fathers saw the Dutch as bretheren. Despite that the population of the Netherlands was about 60% Protestant and 40% Catholic and the majority of the land was majority Catholic. But Americans never encountered the Dutch catholics as they were almost all farmers and unlikely to go on a ship.
A big part though is that the Netherlands used to be a very divided country between the Catholic rural area and the protestant urban one. With many "brabant" became the word used for the Catholic rural area and "holland" for the Protestant urban one. While religion has decreased in significance this divide is still there. Of the stingy and workaholic urban areas where people work, consume, sleep and then repeat the cycle while the rural areas have a stronger community and a more 'lazy' attitude.

A big part though is that the Netherlands used to be a very divided country between the Catholic rural area and the protestant urban one. With many "brabant" became the word used for the Catholic rural area and "holland" for the Protestant urban one.
While religion has decreased in significance this divide is still there. Of the stingy and workaholic urban areas where people work, consume, sleep and then repeat the cycle while the rural areas have a stronger community and a more 'lazy' attitude.

De Lama's is a cheap ripoff from the classic British show Whose Line Is It Anyway? from 1988-1999. The original is way funnier than the Dutch ripoff.
