when i was young an old timer taught me a trick for leather looking an interior. after painting the parts with flat paint, rub your finger on an oily part of your body like the nose or forehead and then rub the part, like in the seats. it'll ie it that little luster that leather has along with the texture.
Looking forward to this one. My Grandmother had a metallic blue '69 or '70 when I was a little kid. She got a ticket once with me in the car for 98 in a 75, or so the family legend went.
LOL. That is a great memory!!!!! I was reading this and honestly had to stop because I almost spit my coffee onto the computer. LOL Thanks for the family legend.
Great start man! Love all the detail explanations of what you are planning to do and why you want to do it. Please allow yourself some room for changes that aren't perfectly up to the challenge. It is supposed to be fun and you show that in every video. Using the go to XF-60 is the right thing to do. LOL I can't wait to see how the underpainting shows up. I'm thinking th Brown Panel Liner would be enough to show the effect you want. Maybe? Looking so forward to the next video. Thanks Mark
Thanks. I'm always ready to change things up when they don't go right. I got almost everything in paint, and can't be any happier. I did a preshade on the seats, and it worked perfectly. I think the brown will add depth to the seats, and I may even do a Clear Orange over the top. Not sure about that yet. And I can't wait for everyone to see the Rockford Gold that I painted the body with.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Glad it worked for you man. I would be worried that the clear orange may give it a "wood" look. Hey give it a shot, can always drop it in the stripper.
I did a roadster that I used the Clear Orange on and it looked GREAT. Its all about the base color. As long as you use a lighter base coat and your pre shade isn't too heavy The orange will be OK.
Looks like a cool kit! The oil filter was molded to the pan on the 62 Bel Aire too, but there was no way to paint it. I cut it off, painted it and put it back on.
Nice! I like what you have planned for this one. Just put some thin cement on the rear seam and it will melt the gap closed. I've never tried the Tamiya glue. I always use the Testors thin Acetone and MEK cement. I think it works the same way.
Glad ur going with the 400 hood yea paint the scoops black I think. Great catch on the the body braces. Looking forward the the wire video on engine this should be a fun build. Need to take mine out for a Sunday drive soon
Thank you. I always wanted to put a 400 hood on my 74. I ended up with a 455 from my mom's Bonneville, but dang that hood would have looked great. Should have never gotten rid of that car.
I bought 2 of this kit. One will be blue, the other I'm not sure yet. The box art has my attention, as well as doing a red one. In my younger days, I almost bought a used blue '68 ..... so this is my substitution for not making that deal.
Thank you. I was at a shop a week or so ago where they were getting a blue 68 ready for paint. It was all there and original. I can't wait to go back and see it. I totally understand getting one and building it like that, I do it all the time. I had a 74 and am always looking for that kit. But I love all the older styles. All the way up to when they went with the square headlights.
great vid dou diggin the color choice perfect in my book 😁🤩thing is GMhad soo many doe skin int its ridiculous but everyon love the early yrs and the latter as well🤣
If you haven't gotten too far with the kit rochester, and would still like to have better detail on it, even though the air cleaner is going to cover it up, you can get SUPER detailed carbs from Matt Inmann over at mcv products. He does amazing work with his printer, and the files he gets for printing are just top notch! And he ships very quickly, at least in my experience.
The paint color for Rockford's car was what Pontiac referred to as Denver Gold.. But the color was a bit different for each year the car was released over the 6 or so the show ran. So in order to keep the car's the same .. The guys in control of getting those cars and maintaining them , they came up with their own custom color , that they called ( Sierra Gold ) ... Just trying to help , I'll get back in my lane now. 👍 😂🤣
Yes. Someone at the beginning of the show had a good idea there. It was a coppery light gold mix. I messed around with the mix for a while before I came up with what I liked. By the way, you can always come over to my lane. LOL
@@grandpamarkshobbies 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I appreciate that.. I'm just glad that you have a great color that you're happy with.. Guys like us aren't building Show or Competition kits. I am the same. These things are way too expensive to not look at. The bad ones just remind me of what I did wrong. LOL I'm posting an update later this evening.
I love your videos.when I was 16 I had a friend who had a white firebird formula? everybody loved that car I'm guessing it was a 70 model I have never seen one like it either.im a grandpa too.

That is a fantastic idea!!!! I am a bit too far into it right now for that, but the GTO will get that treatment for sure.
correct -seats -dash and door panels don't need a clear coat

Thank you. I just got it out of paint and I think you will like what you see!!!
Same here. Got mine in the stash, but I like to watch some build videos before starting a new kit. 😎👍
Oh man you are going to want to bust this kit out of the stash and open it up. Great details and you could follow along.
Looking forward to seeing this built!
Thank you.
you have a meticulous plan for all the detail work. I'm looking forward to seeing it in paint.

Looks like a great kit. Looking forward to progress.
Thank you very much.
Looking forward to following along with this one.
Thank you. I finished that one a few days ago, and it was so fun to build. Hope you enjoy following along.

I had a few like that where I used a panel cutter to make the back of the oil filter. It worked OK.
Great update. Can’t wait to see the detail video
Thank you very much. I'll be working on it as I go along. I hope to have it done the same time as I show off the finished interior.

@@grandpamarkshobbies I really like Matt's print work. I've used lots of his stuff.
He does have very nice things. I'd like to play with one of the engine setups. Those would be cool in the Texaco station on a bench.
@@grandpamarkshobbies Especially as a " build in progress " deal with the level of " internal " detail that some of his prints have!
Yes. I'd love to have the engine parts all laid out and the engine block on the engine stand. Wouldn't that be cool in a diorama.

I would love to know where you got your engine stand?
www.vcgresins.com/shop/p/enginerunstand They have a bunch of cool 3D files to print.
That is an awesome site.
It really is. I love the lawn mowers and string trimmers. LOL But there is a lot of useful things there. I want to get the engine dyno someday.

I've seen the white 69 Formulas with the blue stripe and black interiors. They were so cool. Being a grandpa is great.
Nice 😅
Thank you.
The most stolen item from Lordstown when they made the Firebird = Hood tach.
LOL. I can believe that. I'd put one on my bicycle if someone gave me one back then.
